I'd go here weekly if I lived nearby. Such an incredible Israeli spot! So healthy and good. The sabich pita sandwich is unreal!!! Even has potato in it and (insider tip) it's amazing for digestion if ya know what I mean. The hummus is also good, though a little heavy on the cumin, but that sabich sandwich is incredible. Extra good with the green sauce they give you. Coming back for more sandwiches and to try their baklava and homemade lemonade which also looked great. 5 stars!!!! read more

Aba's Falafel in Rhinebeck offers unexpectedly tasty and reasonably priced Mediterranean street food in a very casual cafeteria-style ambiance in its storefront location on East Market Street. Place your order at the counter, then have a seat at one of the handful of tables in the dining area adjacent to the open kitchen while your food is prepared to order. The menu is very simple with your choice of freshly made-to-order falafel, hummus, or roasted vegetables (as well as various iterations of those three options) served either as a sandwich in a pita or as a platter. On our recent visit for a late lunch, I opted for the falafel pita sandwich ($12), a generous portion of freshly made falafel served with tahini, and cucumber, tomato, cabbage, and onion with sumac, which was excellent! My dining companion went with the hummus pita sandwich ($11), a generous serving of freshly made hummus as well as cucumber, tomato, cabbage, and onion with sumac, which she really enjoyed a lot. Bonus points for the hot sauce (with freshly-made mild, medium, and hot selections) and pickle bar available to patrons no matter whether they grab one of the handful of small tables to enjoy their meal in-house or take their orders to enjoy elsewhere. Portions are generous and the freshness of the ingredients was obvious. Both of us really enjoyed our meals and we'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. PRO TIP #1: Aba's doesn't have a private parking lot, but there is plenty of on-street parking on East Market Street. If you can't find a spot on the street, the Rhinebeck Municipal Parking lot (@ 61 East Market Street) is just across the street from Aba's. read more

Usually a 4.8 crowd rating means it will be a winner. This time, not so much.... Service was super friendly and crisp - a plus. Ambience inside was a bit underwhelming but suppose it is more a takeout place so hard to ding it much for this. Food is where we were disappointed. The eggplant pita and plate were sparse on the eggplant and the plentiful potato on the plate was uninspiring - with respect to both taste and texture. Met a couple of friends here for lunch. Not going to fault Aba's for lack of parking, but just know that it is right in the village of Rhinebeck and parking is tight on busy and holiday weekends. Aba's falafel is a charming little storefront, and it's very cute inside. They do not have a lot of seating, so this might not be the right place for you if you are having a big group or want to sit down at a busy time. The service was prompt, but I didn't find it super friendly. It was busy and they seemed more interested in moving the line along than taking the time to help each individual. The food is good. I haven't been to Rhinebeck in years but enjoyed walking around in early April. Lots of restaurants with delicious smells wafting outdoors. Aba's was no exception. I saw someone enjoying a delicious smelling soup outside and went in. They offer variations around falafel (sandwiches and platters) two daily soups, baklava for dessert and non alcoholic beverages. They offer homemade sauces and fresh hot pepper if you'd like to add more spice to your life. The place was packed inside. It's tiny in there and there's also some outdoor seating. It's more a take out place unless you come early and snag a seat. My falafel platter was super fresh and delicious- from the freshly fried falafel, salad, cabbage, tahini and pillowy pita. The prices are great-$16.50 for my falafel platter. They only make falafel and a handful of other food but what they offer is top notch. I could go on and on about how fantastic the food was. If I could give this place 100 stars I would. Every single thing is delicious. The falafels must be magic because they are the lightest and moistest anywhere. The salads are SUPER fresh (even in winter) and dressing is light and flavorful but so so delicious. The hummus is the best anywhere. It's perfect actually. My hubby got the Sabeech which has slices of potato and eggplant in the mango dressing. He orders this dish EVERY TIME! The pita is the best. Warm and fluffy and full of joy. This place has crispy, herbal, addictively good falafel. This comes in either a sandwich or platter with an excellent combo of marinated cabbage, pickled onion with sumac, cucumber, and tomato. The Pita is of medium thickness and fine. I really like adding a touch of the cilantro and spicy sauces. This place also has excellent cardamom lemonade. read more

I was really excited to try this place after reading all the fantastic reviews, but I wasn't super excited about my recent experience here. I felt that the pita was a bit crunchy which did not seem super fresh to me. I'm used to a soft chewy pita bread. The falafel was okay, but didn't taste warm and freshly made. After eating a modestly sized lunch elsewhere, we walked around and managed to get here right as they were closing, although they were polite enough to serve us. My husband got a falafel pita and I stupidly just got a few falafel. The falafel itself was probably the best I've ever had; they were incredibly flavorful, not dry at all, and with a bit of crunch. This is my favorite dive in Rhinebeck - all vegetarian and all delicious! This time we came at the busiest hour - lunch rush on Easter weekend, and the line was super long out its door. Every customer was greeted with friendly smiles, thoughtful questions and speedy service. I ordered my usual falafel pita, plus the roasted pepper and artichoke soup, while my husband tried their sabeech pita. It's a miracle how much food they skillfully stuff into a pita pouch - I would have torn it or dropped the content - making one's meal a great value. This is a tiny spot with a few tables indoors and a couple outside also. The place was very busy but the four people behind the counter acted like a well oiled machine and the line kept moving. I order the falafel plate and my wife ordered three falafel balls and a side salad. One of the staff heard heard mention that she hoped there was not garlic and he came over and explained yes there was the. Recommended several items she could eat without worrying about garlic. Th falafel were crispy and oh so tender in the inside. The salads were tasty and my wife switched to the Lentil Soup which she said was unbelievably good. What I love about this place is the correct use of salt. So many places like this salt things way past enhancing the flavors and just make them salty. They did not do this to anything ordered. This place is a thirty to forty minute ride for us but I wail take the drive again. Definitely worth checking out. Oh, I forgot to mention it's also VEGAN!!!! read more

The sandwiches here are amazing. We both got the Sabeech sandwich, which was vegan! It had roasted eggplant, roasted potatoes, falafel, Yuma's, cucumber and tomatoes and mango chutney sauce. The bread pocket was perfectly toasted and held everything very well. Everything was so flavorful!! For 11 dollars, these sandwiches are worth the cost and leave you nice and full. :) We also got a piece of baklava (not pictured). It was one single piece (0/10), smaller then a post it note (0/10) and it was 6 dollars (0/10). It tasted horrible and we threw it out after the first bite! Don't waste you money!
