This place has amazing food. There will most likely be some waiting involved, but quality takes time. The grilled Romain salad with anchovies was good! Nice size portion. I think it should be served on a bigger plate. I got the potato with trout roe. It was good but very small. Typical for French cuisine. It is a flat mashed potato patty fried on each side and topped with sour cream and trout roe. Delicious. Now I am not exaggerating about what I say next. The NY strip steak was the best steak I've ever had in my life. Seriously it was ridiculous. It comes sliced on top of weird square fried potato with what I think is a tarragon cream sauce. Eat at this place! Have the steak and you will see what I mean. Don't expect a big appetizer though. The tea is nice and strong. I got the salad on my first visit, went back and had the steak and potato the next day. The steak, potato, and iced tea came to $50 after the tip. So kind of pricey, but you won't find a better steak anywhere. The servers are very professional and polite. You can sit outside and eat which is pretty cool. There were some loud mouth people using vulgar language in my first visit. If I were an employee I would have asked them to stop. Some people have no manners. But the food is amazing! I'm serious. One of my all time favorite restaurants in Omaha. Staff is excellent and food is even better, I've never had a dish here I didn't like. I would highly recommend the Cassoulet and Market Fish. Dessert is an absolute MUST. Their pots de creme changes regularly and is always fantastic my favorite dessert there. If I could, I would give Le Bouillon six stars. My wife and I got married here in March of 2018. There were some specific and particular details and the staff was simply awesome to work with. While traveling in Omaha on business, I decided to stop in. I figured you couldn't beat a $12 wine tasting (4 glasses). What a wonderful place. I was alone and they made me feel at home and the service was great! I had the Lobster beignets. i wish I could give Le Bouillon a million stars! We had our wedding reception here after our previous location cancelled on us with short notice. Within 10 minutes of submitting an inquiry, Alex called us and said they could help. Alex, Lia and the entire staff were incredible to work with and helped us throw a fabulous event. The food, drinks and service were absolute perfection and our guests were in awe and we received so many compliments. We love supporting local and businesses like Le Bouillon are the reason why. My wife order the scallops dish. She only got three scallops that costed her $30.00 way over priced. The dish was then served on a bed of sugar snap peas with sugar snap pea and pistachio pesto that was over salted and to fibrous to eat. It was like eating salty pesto with dental floss. Clearly they used salted pistachio but failed to realize that the pesto would not need anymore salt. She also order a cold melon-tomato gazpacho with micro-greens. Again over salted and the micro-greens over powered the broth. This was just not worth the money clearly they don't have checking for balance of flavor. I celebrated my birthday month brunch last weekend at Le Bouillon and it was nothing short of Spectacular!!! From the service to the incredible culinary delights I was blown away and could not be happier than I am right now!! DEFINITELY a MUST in DT Omaha/Old Market but honestly Omaha in general. Omaha has the most restaurants per capita which means there's a lot of competition and you better be the top of your game to make it & survive and Le Bouillon is one of the places I will return to again & again over trying something unknown and not tried & true. read more

Fabulous eatery in the Old Market!! Really enjoyed the Hangar Steak (cooked to the perfect temp , medium, that we ordered) entree and beet salad. Wished we hadn't had a big lunch because I also wanted to try the oysters, steak tartare and charcuterie. The space is beautiful and airy with high ceilings; I imagine the patio would be lovely in the summer. Our server was knowledgeable and helped me order items without gluten (I have celiac). Le Bouillon is my favorite Omaha restaurant, and I've written reviews before, but, in this one, I want to mention two singularly outstanding motivations to bring you in the door. And because Yelp is their new reservations system (formerly they used Open Table), I want to put one in place on Yelp. ONE: the restaurant's manager, Haley, and Chef Paul will provide the most accommodating, thoughtful, and SAFE dining experience I've had in any city, if you have Celiac disease, as I do. Note in your reservation that you have Celiac and would like to be advised about menu choices; 2/3 to 3/4 of what they offer (depending on that night's menu) is either Celiac-safe or easily modified (and by "modified," I do not mean "Made into something tasteless"--the quality of food here is so high, and the Basque style of food offers much that naturally does not include gluten ingredients). You'll even have your choice of two or more desserts that are Celiac-safe; again, this is unique in Omaha, and the selections, as with the entire menu, change seasonally. TWO: If you are sober (as I am) or just prefer not to imbibe alcohol, the bar program here will provide you with nuanced, exciting mocktails composed from house-made bitters and grenadines and a wealth of imagination. In most any other restaurant, I wouldn't bother with a non-alcoholic bar drink. But please, tell them what you like (sweet, tart, herbaceous, a preferred flavor base, etc.) and let them bring you a concoction that pairs well with your meal. There are a million reasons to dine at Le Bouillon. But these two mean you can enjoy an exquisite meal and not feel you are a burden for having your needs attended to. Also, if you yourself don't have any specific dining concerns, but you're taking a group or a first date or any dining partner(s) whose needs you have not been made aware of or could not anticipate, Le Bouillon is your best bet to have everyone covered and delighted. Had Brunch for Mothers Day ... the food was really good. I had the pork crepinette. The flavor profile was complex with the earthy taste of the lentils perfectly balancing with the saltiness of the pork. The asparagus, egg and creamy sauce rounded out this savory delight. My wife had the Austrian pancake with berry butter and I snuck a bite. There was a hint of lemon zest to go with the sweetness of the berry butter and maple syrup flavors to lend a pleading summertime taste! So would have been four or five stars but for the slow service and disappointing Bloody Mary. read more

From out of town decided to stop in for a snack . We tried the warm olives at the suggestion of the waitress. What a great dish. Marinated in olives,thyme and garlic. Tasty with a side order of French bread. Very good. We went on to try the French ham ground mustard pickled red onion and shaved French cured ham. Also served with toasted sliced French bread. Very very good. Good combo of mustard with ham and the almond cashew paste. We finished with French onion soup. The soup was topped with a perfectly melted over the soup. The Resturaunt has a very nice atmosphere. Not pretentious or intimidating for a French resturaunt. Our waitress was very nice friendly and attentive . We brought my mom here for Mother's Day brunch, specifically because she had been here with my dad and both of them had enjoyed it. But after this visit both said the place has gone downhill. For starters, they were out of Bloody Mary mix. At 12:30pm. On a Saturday. On Mother's Day weekend. Like, seriously -- what? When we indicated our surprise, the waiter made a sad sweeping gesture and said that it was a busier weekend than usual. Yet the dining room is huge, and only two large tables plus one small one were busy. My mom had literally picked this place because she liked the Bloody Mary's, so... Yea, thanks for that, Le Bouillon. Second, they didn't have black tea. What kind of restaurant claims to have a tea selection but can't manage a simple Lipton English Breakfast? And finally, the cassoulet. What we were served did not resemble any cassoulet I'd ever seen, and I'm a well-traveled foodie. My parents have lived in France and were also stumped. In this iteration, the cassoulet was basically a pot of mashed white beans and potatoes (maybe?), slightly too salty, with flecks of meat mixed in. Do a Google Image search and you'll see that a real cassoulet is less salty casserole and more gourmet stew. On the upside, my spinach quiche was quite nice. There are several vegetarian options (not always the case with French cuisine), and a few of the appetizers are vegan (though not labeled as such). Overall the service was friendly and a manager (maybe?) came over to apologize for the tea situation. I was then served some watery decaf coffee. Overall not terrible, but not impressive either. I heard about the 1/2 price happy hour oysters so we wanted to try this place. we were too late for that. We ordered 3 or 4 small plates, none of them on the menu posted here. And dinner. Be sure to order bread. It's excellent and you'll need more than they give with the apps. Shrimp cocktail, 4 of them, $14, lots of horseradish = good!; Frog legs, 4 of them, $14, taste like chicken; Shrimp toast, 2 of them, $6; Scallops, 4 of them, big ones, and awesome, $18. For dinner we ordered French Onion Soup, bowl,$9. And the Market Fish, which was Salmon, cooked perfectly, $24. Glass of wine, $9 and a coffee, $3.50. Service was excellent, dinner was excellent but the dessert, Lemon Tart, made the whole meal, really. $7. We should have ordered it FIRST.We'll come back, we really liked having a date there. It sounded to me like Brunch is the thing here, so maybe next time. Total bill $144 including $25 tip. A $250 punch in the gut. My husband and I dined with another couple here on Valentine's Day. We got the tasting menu with the wine pairings. We are all foodies and have been blown away before by food and wine tasting menus at some of Omaha's finest like V. Mertz, Boiler Room, Darios, Monarch, & Bella Rose.....and we expected Le Boullion to be up there with these. Unfortunately, we found the food at Le Boullion to be more comparable to what we had at the French restaurant at our all-inclusive Secrets resort in Mexico....which isn't bad, but it's just not a $250 dining experience. The service was slow and terrible. Our waitress made us feel like every request was a huge chore. IE: We arrived early to enjoy a drink before our friends got there. The waitress told me the only wine I could order would be a 3oz, $12 pour from the wine tasting menu. I explained I was hoping to have something other than what I was already going to have with dinner. She reluctantly dropped a wine menu off with maybe 6 wines on it, no description. I asked if she could elaborate on any of the wines, which she did in a sort of I-can't-believe-you're-such-an-idiot-that-you-don't-know-what-these-wines-are kind of way. She was just really falsely sweet. And when we got into dinner, she'd drop off our food with maybe a 5 word description and nothing to say about the wine that was paired with it. All of us teased about how bad she hated us and how she was probably spitting in our food in the back lol! The food was the biggest let-down. Before the tasting we ordered two separate appetizers. Shrimp, which were overcooked and the oysters, which were bland. The tasting menu was a total joke. The amuse-bouche was a hushpuppy, a piece of bread and ham on a toothpick, and the WORST I've ever witnessed on a tasting menu - a soggy cracker (that we're pretty sure came from Costco) with what appeared to be Easy Cheese on top. Course 1 - Soup, way over-salted. Course 2, the entree, was duck, which was tough and gamey. Course 3 - dessert, which was a mold of what seemed to be Dannon vanilla greek yogurt, and chocolate donut bite which was hard as a rock - I could not even bite into mine. By the time the bill came we'd been there 3 hours and all of us needed to get home to our babysitters. We did not provide this feedback before leaving (we should have), but all of us were still so disturbed the next day by how ripped off we felt, that I called and spoke to the manager, Katie. She said she would follow-up with me again but I never heard back. Bottom line, if you're looking for an exquisite food, drink and dining experience, do not go to Le Bouillon. read more

Le Bouillon is a pleasant restaurant, just a little quirky, with artwork on paper mounted behind plexiglass and a large rather scary sculpture near the back. I tried a craft cocktail made with arrack and malort, not too sweet. They have decent French wines by the glass or pot; I had a Cahors. A half dozen plump and briny oysters (can't recall what kind) were followed by a wonderful buttery agnolotti. But the star of the show was the hanger steak; simply the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked. It was billed as coming with a peppercorn jus which I was concerned about but it actually turned out to be a bordelaise of sorts, just fabulous. Underneath was a potato waffle which worked perfectly, and on top some asparagus, delightfully al dente. Due to the sheer size of the hanger steak I was unable to follow with anything else! OK, if you're willing please just get ready to slog through a thorough yet admittedly strident review of Le Bouillon. The up-front warning is offered here simply because we have some obvious pretenders among a few early-bird "reviewers," whose shortsighted perspectives could otherwise mislead you if you let them. Don't let them. Don't miss out here. Le Bouillon is a great call -- an important place and a true destination. Bottom line is if you love great food -- and by that I mean seriously great food -- trust both your own instincts and the advice of those who share your overriding outlook. By contrast, for those who care not so much about great food but prefer to navel-gaze about how, if they ran their own fantasy restaurant, they would pick another carpet or a different lighting manufacturer, etc... -- Well, we're just on another page there, so those folks need read no further. All I can tell you is I'm a born-and-bred local who's also been around the global block, a careful watcher of all things food here and elsewhere, and make it my business to know what's happening in Omaha especially. I pay attention whether due or not. Yet I pay respect only where due. And be assured, I watch my own backyard. So... onto the so-called review: Le Bouillon is at the top of the top places to eat, and enjoy life, here in Omaha (and frankly through to Chicago, Denver and KC), particularly if you appreciate French regional cuisine. You've either heard of Paul Kulik and his crew here (or at the Boiler Room) or you haven't, but I'll tell you if you haven't maybe you should just pull out the old smart phone and try a Google on that. You are in good hands. I won't push some personal "take" on what's best here, but I will offer you a current what's-up from my knowledge of some the heavy hitters: super fresh oysters at the raw bar, superb charcuterie (you can never miss with the pate maison), the duck confit on the Toasts menu, sweetbreads or arroz a la plancha on Les Petits menu, and PFC chicken or Piedmontese Ribeye (for 2 plus) on Les Plats menu. Just saying and just for instance. Plenty more where those came from. The thing that gets me is that literally just weeks after Le Bouillon opened up earlier this year (and mind you this place is an iconic venue in Omaha's Old Market that had been put aside for years in wait for just the right chef), we locals were astounded to find ourselves with a smattering of know-nothing armchair critics whinging absently about how they would prefer some other type "art" on the walls here -- yet all the while praising the food in otherwise illogically mid-starred reviews. So let's just get to and then past the question of the art on Le Bouillon's walls. And I approach this as someone who admittedly wouldn't know art if it bit me on the behind, but at the same time as someone who knows very well the history of this city, this neighborhood, this block, and this highly coveted space. The art on the walls of Le Bouillon is all by the late Sam Mercer, the very artist and visionary without whom nothing in the Old Market would even exist as a destination. None of that is remotely an overstatement, as any additional Google search will amply attest. Although Sam was a talented if not a professional painter, the deeper point is that he and his family are the first and founding generation of a far deeper and civic art form -- the establishment of the Old Market itself -- and as such they are now the true ancestors to at least three generations of scores of other artists who cut their teeth in this very "arts district" that Sam was instrumental in founding -- something that now stands as Omaha's artistic crown jewel. So when I see some random Yelper spouting off from one side of their mouth about how an appetizer at Le Bouillon is "fantastic" yet leaving a ridiculous mid-starred review because they do not personally appreciate the restaurant's decor, I am left scratching my head to the point I can feel the scraping on my own brain. After all, such people presumably must walk through the streets of the Old Market just to arrive at Le Bouillon's door -- yet somehow they miss entirely Sam's other and crucial palette on the way in? So all that aside, how about we just keep it simple: Do you love truly great food -- so great you'd be amazed it has hit that level in Omaha? Next, do you love that same great food with impeccable service -- to the point where service is not merely service, but, dare one say it, an "art"? And would you like both of those in one of the most important historic and artistic venues in Omaha (and, frankly for that matter, west of the Mississippi)? OK, then. You've come to the right place. Oh, and once again, the duck confit is freaking killer. And if that's too fancy for you here in little old Omaha, by all means try the ribeye. You don't have to be an art critic to appreciate a perfect ribeye in Omaha. Don't miss out. Bon appetit. read more

Do you like the execution of Boiler Room but have a taste for French comfort foods in a slightly more casual setting? Then eat here. They also have craft cocktails. Like most places in Old Market this place is re-purposed with coated brick walls and exposed beams in the ceiling. The dining room is spacious and the tables have a generous separation between them. There are large abstract water color paintings that line the walls of the restaurant and a funky paper mache tree in the entrance. It's like fine dining in an art gallery. The rib eye in anchovy butter is my go to but I haven't had a bad meal here. read more

I went with a total of 4 people with the understanding we would each order something different & share off each others plates. After placing an order for a bottle of red & white wine we were off! We started off with an appetizer of oysters from Washington State that had a wonderful sweetness that at the time I wish we ordered double & the Butter Lettuce with Shallot Dressing was so good I could hardly wait for the entrees. Our entrées were Heritage Pork, Skirt Steak, Plancha, and Swordfish. Now I typically like to order items that I do not like and/or do not imagine tasting good. So naturally I ordered the swordfish (never had before) with dehydrated brussel sprouts (what?) and grapefruit (cannot stand grapefruit). This was so good I damn near growled at anyone that wanted a bite. The wait staff was wonderful. When we mentioned we were going to a concert they made sure that not only we know where it was located but made sure we received our check when we originally asked when we walked in. (We actually risked being late for the concert & indulged in their amazing desserts). I didn't check out the inside of the restaurant since we had an outdoor table & had fun people watching. Le Bouillon opened where French Cafe used to be, so it had big shoes to fill. The bathrooms are the same, but otherwise, the space has changed quite a bit. It's a very open floor plan and not too crowded with tables at this point. Large art hanging on the walls and a big art sculpture when you enter. Most of the dining area is carpeted, which is a bit odd, but it definitely helps with volume, meaning we could hear each other while dining. That's a welcome feature compared to other Old Market restaurants. We dined there on the second night that the restaurant was open to the public and service was already very smooth. We ordered two of the "Les Toasts," which are a small piece of toast with toppings. We had the Ricotta with Edamame and Lemon and the Rabbit Rillettes with Currant Jam and Marrow. We enjoyed both. My husband especially liked the rabbit and I thought the currant jam was a highlight. We also ordered two Le Petits Plats to share. My husband thought the Crispy Sweetbreads with Chèvre and Honey were the highlight of the meal, although I found them to be chewy, even for sweetbreads. I enjoyed the Cassoulet with Garlic Sausage and White Beans a bit more. Lots of fatty pork products that had incredible flavor. We shared one entree (Les Plats) - the Marinated Wagyu Skirt Steak with Shallots. This is a very fatty meat, but full of flavor. The shallots were delicious. Although it's an entree, it still wasn't an especially large serving and even with all the food we had already ordered, I was wishing we had added a couple side dishes. For dessert we had the Chocolate Pôt de Crème. That was definitely the highlight for me. With those food items, three glasses of wine, a dessert drink, and tip, we came out to just over $100. Overall, we were both pleased, but not blown away. I think serving size will be an issue here. I understand that most items are small plates and meant to be shared, but serving sizes still could have been more generous. We'll likely be back, but with several upscale dinning options in the Old Market, there wasn't anything so exceptional about this place that I see it becoming a staple in our rotation of fine dining restaurants for special celebrations. read more

I went here 3 times in a two week span. Twice for dinner (including New Year's Eve), and once for brunch. All of the "Les Toasts" are amazing as well as the Wagyu Skirt Steak and Cassoulet. The brunch menu is unique and is equally as good as everything else. A great place to try something different and take in the beautiful old market scenery. I generally do not do negative reviews and especially of the local places I enjoy frequenting. I will keep it short and, as always, encourage others to form their own opinions (as can be seen by the good reviews already posted). Our waiter was a little on the "arrogant" side and insisted on telling us how to pair and prepare (yes, I have eating PLENTY of French food and know how to pair things - it's all a personal preference). I am a huge fan of bone marrow and love seeing it on any menu - unfortunately, it wasn't prepared to my liking but I will strike that up to me. The cassoulet main dish was ok but not what I hoped for. The real issue was in my girlfriend's burger. The waiter insisted it should be done medium (which I agree is the case if cooked right), although she asked for medium well. The first attempt yielded a rare to medium rare at best so I asked him to take it back - he didn't approve but did take the burger back. I am not sure anything was really done because the second round yielded the same rare to medium rare. She decided she would just forego the burger and left it. I would have expected a "is the burger better now" from the waiter but he just stopped by, looked at the burger on the plate and asked if we were done. I love the fact that they are farm to table restaurant. I went there for lunch, had a crepe and arugula salad. Enjoyed it immensely and decided to treat myself for dinner with a Nebraska wagyu steak entree and paired it with one of their fine wine options. Enjoyed the atmosphere, service and yummy food.
