Poor service. They are not Celiac or Vegan friendly due to sloppiness of the staff & kitchen. I don't want to risk having use my Epi pen due to the staff and kitchens incompetence. And yes having eatery that can specialize with clients that have specific dietary needs can be filled challenges. It is a lot of work upfront but the restaurant could be exceptional. And is a shame because the hotel, dining area, and landscaping is beautiful. read more

Delicious food in a beautiful outdoor place. Phenomenal service, especially Dawa and James. Can highly recommend the papa Bravas and cheesecake. Enjoy! read more

I visited Layla with some colleagues for brunch and was blown away! The service was impeccable, the decor is stunning, and the food was delicious! I had the Hunters Eggs with a belini and both were divine. I've been craving the breakfast most days since I had it! The waitstaff even brought out hot sauce for the meal in an adorable little dropper container. So lovely. I also tried one of someone else's hashbrowns and they are not to be missed. Little cubes of fried potato perfection. I absolutely recommend Layla and hope to return very soon! read more

Amazing outdoor dining experience. Great wine and champagne list. Loved the patatas bravas and the Fried chicken sandwich. Definitely a must try spot In Sonoma. read more

I had not heard of this restaurant, but my wife had, so we wanted to try it. The occasion was my birthday. Had my Mom and Sister join us. The menu sounded delicious, so we each made our choices. My wife and I had the fried chicken sandwich. It was wonderful. The dining was outside, they have a beautiful garden, with plenty of shade trees, umbrellas and a large fountain. This helped a lot, as it was a hot summer day. I had a passion fruit sorbet for desert. It was light, a perfect desert for a big meal. We had a perfectly pleasant experience. The restaurant wasn't as full as the reservations on-line would have lead us to believe. It worked out just great. read more

WOW!!! Layla is the superstar restaurant of the area I swear. I've been a few times in the last few months and it is truly spectacular... be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food is incredible and innovative, as is the service. They have a beautiful clear span tent in the back with heaters & blankets for those chilly times -and we were very warm. It feels like you're in a redwood forest, but eating amazing food and drinking fantastic wine. Spencer is the sommelier and was so helpful. Amaya is the manager and was so kind and always greeted us with a smile. read more

Great waitstaff very personable. The food was fantastic! My gf got the pasta which she mentioned it was one of the best pasta dishes ever! A little pricy but worth it especially if your staying at the hotel. read more

Finally re-opened and they have definitely got their groove. Excellent in every respect, and the setting is just spectacular. The outdoor dining is absolutely lovely, the food is excellent, and the service is warm and efficient. read more

Lost its Way. Layla opened with high expectations, and originally those were met. Something has gone wrong, unfortunately. Our last meal was mediocre, as was the service. Because we always try and give restaurants a fair shake, I called to speak to the restaurant manager - twice. Once to book a party of 10, and our call was not returned. I tried one more time to speak to the general manager - same result. No one returned our call. This does not bode well for their future in this competitive market. read more

Love the service and delicious food options. A great place to breakfast or lunch with girlfriends!

Great food and service. Love having this place in our neighborhood. Can be crowded on busy days.

Service was beyond excellent and the ambience is probably the best in Sonoma. Food may be fresh and high quality but tastes were just mediocre. After one pleasant dinner experience, we certainly didn't think it was worth going back to for any other meals, let alone room service at MacArthur Place. Thankfully we weren't super hungry when coming, so it wasn't too big of a disappointment. The crab pasta was really not something to order again (the angel hair was stringy without much bite), the rockfish was just OK (a little fishy smelling and tasting in the beginning) and the appetizers were interesting (the squash babaganoush was the best out of all that we tried). The Parker house rolls were just alright and the patatas bravas were fried beautifully, but the tomato and aioli sauces lacked a little bit of heat. Unfortunately, generally speaking, I don't think the balance of salt, fat, and acid was very well achieved. It felt like a very expensive, "healthy" older-Caucasian crowd pleasing food variety. We ended up grabbing mom-and-pop shop tacos down the neighborhood to complete and satisfy our tastebuds for the night. read more

8 of us had dinner at Layla's last night. The appetizers were OK. Many of the main dishes, delivered after an interminable wait, were really terrible. The seafood pasta arrived at the table luke warm and the seafood did not smell fresh. The Lamb dish, a stew like mess, was very greasy and inedible. The steak was only OK. The deserts were mediocre and overly fussy for no reason. Naturally even the coffee arrived lukewarm. Is the kitchen so far away from the dining room that food cools by the time it arrived to table? I live in Sonoma and can report that many Sonoman's have tried Layla's and all have been uniformly disappointed. Also it's really expensive for such uninspiring food. read more

Worst breakfast I've ever had! Never order the Short rib hash! Absolutely no flavor. Raw potatoes, onions and peppers. 34 week old meat! So gross! Don't eat here! The chef has no clue how to cook. read more

Best service Great food amazing atmosphere!!!! Had my sons wedding lunch there and they all went out of there way to make it such a great experience!! Spencer did such a great job organizing the luncheon for us and Ramon made it run so smoothly, he was so attentive to us the whole afternoon !!! I highly recommend this restaurant for any special event!! I can't thank you enough! I will be back as soon as I visit Sonoma again! Sincerely Elaine kipp/Pacifica ca read more

So disappointing. My husband and I have loved this restaurant for years, and have eaten there many times. But our last experience was just awful. I know there is a new chef, a new menu and that many restaurants are struggling as they ramp back up to more indoor dining. That said, the food was terrible. We sent one pasta dish back (cold) and it came back just as bad. Two dishes were so over-salted that one we sent back and ordered something else. I simply didn't eat mine because we'd already complained about two items. I hope this restaurant can recover. It's a beautiful space. But we won't go back any time soon. Fortunately there are other new, exciting restaurants in the area. read more

The quality of this restaurant was a welcome addition to our stay at Macarthur place. Connected to the lobby, Layla had a lovely outdoor patio/deck and attentive wait staff (the buttons with pictures of the staff's faces en lieu of name tags was a great Covid adaption, with the staff having to wear masks ). I'm pretty sure that between the 8 hungry people in our party we ordered nearly everything on the menu, and everyone came away highly impressed. I for one had the little gems salad and the chicken sandwich, both of which were excellent. My wife had the tomato soup and cobb salad and enjoyed it as well. Between the staff and the food and the ambiance I would highly recommend checking it out when in Sonoma! read more

We went here for Christmas eve dinner. The dinner was very good, excellent in fact but the desserts provided were very lack luster and I am a huge dessert person. The waitress we had was very nice and attentive. I would recommend if you're looking for a more upscale dinner in Sonoma. read more

Every time we come here we say "never again" and last night was not an exception. The problem is we live 4 blocks away and really want to like it here. Ever since Saddles, the service here has been really bad. Many of our local friends have quit coming for the same reason. Last night we had good spa services and headed to the restaurant for drinks and eats. We sat at the bar, 3 of us, with a total average of 7 at the bar while we were there and a 1/2 filled lounge area. The bartender ignored us from start to finish. We had to ask to order each time for drinks and food, (we were never asked if we'd like something else or if the food was okay) there were 3 empty water glasses in front of us, my Mom asked for water and he proceeded to fill up hers and skipped the other 2. I thought the food we ordered was good and it came out in a timely manner, but that will not make up for bad service. The bartender would probably have liked a tip on the @$160 we spent but maybe he didn't really care. read more

One star is too many. Ihave never had a more unpleasant experience than I did today at lunch. The service was horrible - as in none. If I could give Layla a totally no star review I would. I was there with 3 friends. We sat for a long time with no one bringing water, menus or anything. When we were finally able to order and receive our food the server had an argument with us about our order / he clearly felt he knew better than we did. Gross. Talk about ageism! Everything continued to tank and we each left knowing we will not be returning. We did talk to a manager but that changed absolutely nothing. After all the hype we were so terribly disappointed. read more

We first encountered lukewarm coffee. Our server was nice enough to brew another pot of lukewarm coffee. We were not off to a good start. We were there for lunch and had the steak and french fries and the steak was so tough and the fries so heavily seasoned that we turned the order back and had them take it off the bill. We had the carbonara and it was so full of dripping butter that it took away from the dish. I love better but it was so greasy. They are heavily into egg dishes so if you like eggs you might want to try them. We don't plan on going back. read more

This is indeed a beautiful restaurant. However that said, a couple entrees like pea falafel doesn't say yum to me. The staff is new and ok. While can afford it, prices are ridiculous Why pay more than you need to for a trendy meal. However this is a once a year place for most and if that. I wonder how long they can survive not wanting locals and hoping that every night of the week it will be a destination place. I don't see it. read more

We love the Bar at MacArthur Place - great happy hour and snacks; however, Layla's restaurant not so much. We went for brunch and ordered the Hash, which we found to be bland and greasy and kinda of meh. The service was good (although slightly inattentive at times); it is a little pricey. On the plus side, the outdoor setting is great. read more

Terrible service, marginal food, and overall lack of focus. Our experience there this week gets an F-. I used to do a lot of entertaining at Layla but I am very reluctant to return. Especially with clients and friends. read more

What a transformation this place. Last time I was at MacArthur Place, I remember dark and horsey. Now the hotel is stylish and restaurant stunning. Stop for a cocktail in the gorgeous bar and then tuck into a comfortable table in the airy dining room for a fantastic meal. The star here is Chef Cole Dickerson's menu. We started with the Babaghanoush and house made pita with Zatar, so flavorful. Then one of the dishes of the night, Roasted Carrot with Yogurt. The warm spices make the dish so delicious. Next, the Cacio e Pepe, perfect pasta with Parmesan, a soft egg and Espelette, awesome. We splurged on the Sole Meunière with luscious potato mousseline. And again, the other dish of the night, another vegetable, Swiss Chard with Onions and Breadcrumbs, sounds simple, but crazy complex. The flavors and textures were memorable. For dessert, don't miss the Doughnuts with Honey and Lemon Curd, really hot and really amazing. The honey was so aromatic. The. Another surprise, San Marzano Tomato Pate a Fruit, perfect finish to our meal. With an interesting wine list, very fair pricing and excellent service, this place is worth a reason to go there and indulge. So worth it! read more

Bizarre experience. Was staying at MacArthur Place for our wedding anniversary. Had eaten at Layla for lunch over a year ago and enjoyed it. We looked online to secure a reservation about a week out and there was nothing. I emailed the resort asking if we could get a 7pm reservation (on a Sunday night might I add) and they emailed me back saying they could do 730, so we took it. That day, we had been wine tasting all day, were hungry early at 530 and asked if we could get a reservation around 630 instead and we were told they were "slammed" and could only get us in at 545. This felt early but we took it. When we checked in at the host stand at 545pm the entire restaurant was open, not one table sat. We thought, hmmmm that's weird but ok. The server greeted us and informed us that there was a new chef at the restaurant for the last 6 months and that the menu is "diverse". Upon review of the menu, it was the opposite of "diverse" in my opinion. It was very small, with a lot of vegetarian options. We ordered the Parker rolls which were good. I ordered the spaghetti and added shrimp, my husband ordered the short rib. Both entrees were incredibly bland and lacked any flavor or depth. The shrimp was rubbery. I had to add tons of salt and pepper to my dish to make it eatable. Bill came out to $150 (with no alcohol). We left the restaurant around 715pm and only 4 tables were sat and we were incredibly confused about them not being able to accommodate a 630 reservation. The menu and the food were completely underwhelming and for the price, we will not be returning. read more

Looove the new refresh of MacArthur Place. I cannot stay away from Layla and the bar area. To me, it is the chicest place in the City of Sonoma. I've really enjoyed the Macarthur mule, octopus, steak, hummus, breakfast & dessert. read more

Abby is the best bartender ever!! Mixes great drinks, wonderful personality, is very attentive. Our "go to" place in Sonoma!

The best dinner I have had in a long time! Layla does not disappoint! We ordered everything because we didn't want to miss out. The highlight was the 3 pound sea Bass, which melted in our mouths. The Israeli couscous was also a hit, lightly buttered and flavors galore. The service was bar none, and the food was just impeccable! You will want to have every meal here. No other restaurant in Sonoma compares to the quality of Layla! read more

My wife and I went to celebrate at the newly opened Layla in the MacAuthur Place Hotel. Even though it's a new concept the team seems to be firing on all cylinders. Everything on the menu was amazing, incredible service. Great date spot or dinner with friends. Tables are spaced out so you aren't cramped and can have a conversation at normal volume. Octopus, arugula salad, lamb over gnocchi, oysters, and cocktails were all delicious. One of the best meals we ever had. Will 100% go back and recommend to all. read more

Would not go back. Went for dinner during a bachelorette weekend. Had some apps which were decent, including tuna carpaccio and crispy spring potatoes. However, mushroom and truffle mousse lacked anything "truffle" about it. Basically just a creamy mushroom pate. Edible, but nothing special. Didn't even have that yummy rich mushroom flavor of which we know mushrooms are capable. Ordered the gnocchi described in the menu as: "fresh wild truffle cream, snap peas, vella jack, rosemary parsley puree". Only elements detectable were the gnocchi and the peas. Dish had literally no flavor, so probably a good choice for little kids who are picky but don't mind peas. Tried adding salt to see if I could get any hint of truffle, and nothing. For it being the most expensive pasta dish on their menu, was sorely disappointed. Churros were similarly disappointing - may as well have been a county fair churro, which would have at least been hot and fresh. Keep your money in your pocket and go elsewhere. read more

A lovely renovation, probably the nicest space in town. If you can only eat the design and avoid the waitstaff all would be well. Competent service is usually a result of management properly training service staff so I cannot blame a young pleasant staff for clueless service. Uneven food quality is a mystery. Several dishes are wonderful others awful. Sad to see so much promise wasted. read more
