Pesto Grilled Chicken Press Sandwich
Matt M.

Pleasantly surprised by my takeout experience at Layla Jones. Ever since I moved to the area, I was highly skeptical of this neighborhood pizza joint. I couldn't answer basic (***) questions like: What is this?! Is it Detroit style? Grandma? Sicilian? Is this even going to taste good?! Being the risk averse person that I am, I decided to ditch the boring quarantine lunch of (salad / tuna sandwich / Trader Joe cauliflower rice - so hot right now, though) for a Pesto Grilled Chicken Press Sandwich from our purveyor of puzzling pizza pie. The sandwich featured thinly sliced pieces of grilled chicken breast, fresh mozzarella, and roasted red peppers on a delicious homemade panini bread. It was fantastic! Fresh ingredients, bold flavors (loved the pesto), and a solid bread-to-fillings (?) ratio! I really look forward to coming back to try their unique-style (sic) pizzas! **************** Update: Returned for the pizza. Reminds me of Ellio's, except with high quality ingredients. We ordered the Fast Eddie's Pizza... think meat lovers heaven. Pretty decent. I would order it again.

Vegetable upper left, plain lower left, pepperoni on the right.

My favorite thin square slice in the city. My go to is their vegetable slice with mushrooms, onions, and fresh tomato chunks. Fresh, firm vegetables on a crispy crust. Their plain slice is also great. I like my pizza saucy and their slices don't look like they have much, but when you bite into it you'll find a perfect balance between cheese and sauce. Service is always sweet, my only complaint is their pepperoni slice is drenched in grease, to the point where the crust becomes limp and soggy.

Its Pizza day at the office so we decided to order from Layla Jones. It was a hit! What a great pie. Not too saucy, although sauce was tasty. Nice amount of cheese. We ordered half pepperoni and that was a generous amount of pepperoni on the pie. The crust is great, it was chewy and soft yet a bit crispy. This may be the winner of our "go to" pizza shop!

Horrible pizza that was delivered with toppings sprinkled on top. Just a bad way to even think about pizza!

This place consistently delivers, unlike those big-name pizza chains. The crust and sauce are always perfect!

Always a good choice. Love their pies and the salad was tasty. They delivered it still hot.

There's a couple of tables in a small store. Above the register there's a menu board resembling a train departures board, cycling through the options (it looks neat, but the printed out menu on your right is a lot more practical). There's a cooler with drinks and salads as you enter on the right. The sandwiches, however, are something special. On my first visit I went with something familiar, the Mean Streets (their Italian sandwich). The bread itself is fantastic (locally baked), and the toppings delicious as well (if I recall correctly the dressings are house made). Pleasantly, they also give you a paper plate with your order, which is a nice touch compared to eating off a wrapper. I enjoyed the first sandwich so much I came back the next day to try the No Sleep Til Gravesend. The sandwich is essentially a hot roast beef sandwich, with a jus on the sandwich reminiscent of a French Dip. Perfect on a cold, rainy day. Overall, 1 of 1 has great (and mostly house made) ingredients and great execution. There's a level of creativity on the menu that you rarely see elsewhere in the city. 1 of 1 is among the best sandwich shops in the city, and a very welcome addition to the area.

They offer a wide variety of signature sandwiches, or you can customize your order. We had the turkey club combo with bacon , avocado and fresh mozzarella. The ingredients are sourced locally. They have four bread choices. The sandwich was excellent, bread soft and seasonings were a perfect compliment. Prices are competitive. I will be back to try other selections.

Got a TGTG order here. 11/10 I'd do it again…read more Brooklyn DOP actually originated as a pandemic business where my friend's personal trainer started baking pizzas outside of his Greenwood Heights apartment. When the hype got large enough, the owner decided to start a pizzeria and the rest is not history. This is one of the more worthwhile TGTG orders to me. Their pizza is SOOO perfectly crisp and charred, and actually is one of the closest pizzas that reminds me of the famous originals in Napoli.

Expensive though, about $55 dollars for a vegan 18-inch Margherita pie with 3 toppings. Was it worth it for the experience? Yes. Would I recommend to someone who wanted to try it at least once for a good dairy-free pizza? Absolutely, I couldn't even tell this was vegan cheese. Would I get it again? Maybe (?) once in a while as a treat with price being the only barrier. Service 5/5: This was great. I came here the other day to inquire about their vegan pizza and just wanted to try a slice. The person found his manager to talk to me about this. They were super friendly and explained to me the situation. This location only sold vegan options in full pies and their other DOP Fast Life location does sell vegan slices, but they didn't try to push me to buy. I came back today and the staff today were also very welcoming. Ambiance 5/5: Rustic red brick interior with warm lighting. It was definitely bustling on a Friday night. Food 5/5: Delicious pizza. I do regret that I ate it cold after driving 30 minutes to pick it up so I did not get the full experience. But the crust was still crunchy. I do wish the toppings were a little heavier but the tomato chunks in the sauce tasted very fresh. A very classic New York style pizza and I couldn't even tell it wasn't real cheese. Vegan garlic knots were great too.

Konditori, Villager, Bakeri, Hidden Grounds, and now Velvette Brew. First, the space: light, airy and I can imagine with their big windows, a sun soaked place on a sunny day. There are plenty of seats: tables and high top tables. Their menu offers a bit of everything from soup, sandwiches, quiche and pastries. There is a nice option of beverages hot/cold. Today, was a bit damp so I ordered a hot chai with bite size checkerboard cookies to dip. The barista was very pleasant and I found a seat while waiting for my chai. I see a lot of patrons working in laptops, some meeting up to talk and sip and even the barista chatted with a local patron. Love it! My chai was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The chai was frothy, rich, the black tea leaves infused with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, sweetener, and milk. I savored every sip and complimented the barista. It is always great to find a new coffee place. I expect to be a loyal local at Velvette Brew. They also host music events and have a collaboration with Cry Baby Ice Cream.
