I took my down comforter in and received a call a week later from Jerry, the owner saying my comforter had fallen apart in the dryer. He said he would not charge me for the hours they had into it and no offer of compensation! I said you mean to tell me that I am out my down comforter and he said yes, It looks like a chicken factory in here and tried to be funny. He then told me once again that I would not be charged. The third time he told me I would not be charged (like he was doing ME a favor) I told him I wouldn't pay even if he had charged me and hung up. I received an email a few hours later saying my order was ready to be picked up. I will never go to Lapels again, when Delia's is right down the road. read more

Because Jerry was nice enough to follow up and try to correct the issue, I have updated my review to 3 stars. I appreciate the customer service I received from him. I was very disappointed with my experience at Lapels. I called ahead and asked about getting a leather handbag cleaned and was assured that they could do that for me. When I went in to drop it off, the 2 women at the front acted like it was some kind of ordeal to actually send my bag out to get cleaned! They were very rude and not at all helpful. Against my better judgement, I still left my bag and a pair of slacks to get cleaned. The slacks came back great, no problems there. However, my handbag looks and smells like it was never touched. I paid a pretty penny to have it cleaned and it looks exactly how it did when I dropped it off. They gave me a sticker that said they couldn't get all the spots out because it may damage the garment but, I really wish they would have called me to tell me before just proceeding with NOTHING and charging me full price for it! It still has coffee stained on the strap that are just flakey stuff, easily cleaned, there is no way they even touched it!!! I wish I would have spent more time actually inspecting the bag before I walked out of there. read more

The lady at the front desk is as rude as they come and Jerry the Manager does everything he can to drive up charges specifically on what they consider expensive cotton shirts lol... apparently if you wear an expensive cotton dress shirt it needs to be dry cleaned even though the manufacturer only recommends a simple launder. I guess Jerry figures he can force you to pay 6.75 per shirt instead of 2.75 for the hell of it. What a scam! read more

We had a faux throw that was cleaned by this company. We received it back after it was dry cleaned and it had discoloration all over it. I noticed this when we brought the item back home so I then had to go back to the store to bring it to their attention. I left the item at the store and they said the manager would call me. He never called me back so after three days I called them back and asked the manager to call me again, still no call. Finally I obtained his cell phone number so I texted him. He called me back and we discussed the item. He was very defensive and said he will attempt to fix it but said it was not his issue at all. They used organic/green products and this is impossible... We went back and forth and decided to let him clean it. Later on that day he called back saying the discoloration didn't go away and said it was not their issue. He asked me what should he do then? I said it's your business what would you normally do. He said nothing since it wasn't his fault. I picked up the item that is now ruined from them and will never go back their again. He could have offered a discount on future cleaning or did something to want to retain my business however he said he had 35 years in the business so maybe he's burnt out.... I wear suits daily and I would have spent 250 per Month anyway in cleaning which is my typical amount spent or around 3K per year. I know I'm just one customer but he made me feel like just another complaining customer.... I told him I was going to file complaints and he wished me a good day which came across condescending. This made me want to give a review even more. On to my next complaint with the BBB and others. PS I'm not surprised because they have 16 one star reviews and a total of 21 under 3 star with 36 one and two stars. Half of their reviews are poor which tells me a lot about this company. I am new to the area and tried lapel cleaners because of the location. The first visit I asked for a button to be replaced and after picking it up with my other cleaning I found that it was not done. I returned it along with my next load of clothes. They did replace the button the second time but when I tried to use a coupon they said that I had to present it when I dropped them off. I'm not sure why that matters. When I got home I found that the shirts had wrinkles pressed in on the left shoulder of every one. I did not get any help from either the girl at the counter nor the manager. Needle to say I will not be back. read more

I have been using Lapels Dry Cleaning for two months now at least once a week for a busy interview season. Tonight I went to go pick up my suits, as I was promised they would be done today at 5pm. First of all, my suits were not ready and it was 5:30pm but luckily the girl working at the front was able to find everything EXCEPT one pair of my suit pants. Now, I am flying out tomorrow morning for three more interviews and will not be home in between and this was stressed when I dropped off the clothes, and therefore I needed the pants tonight. She had no idea where they were and she even tried to call the manager who didn't pick up. She stated that "this has been happening more often lately than they would like," which is terrifying. She finally went to rummage around in the back (after much prompting that I would take the pants in any condition) and found them. However, unsure if they were actually cleaned but looked "okay" and therefore I was charged FULL price for it all. I'm definitely going to be finding another dry cleaner after this experience. TL;DR apparently they don't keep your clothes together at this establishment and have been losing clothes "more often" than wanted. read more

Ugh. So I went in and asked to get a few skirts tailored. I just wanted to add some fabric to lengthen them. The tailor didn't even greet me, while the employee took a few minutes to come out of the back and help me. He told me to change so I could have my garments measured. Ok. So I changed, came out of the dressing room and there was nobody was there. This employee had gone to the back AGAIN. The tailor was still ignoring me. Finally, five minutes later he turned to me. I told him what I wanted. He asked me if I brought extra fabric. I told him no because I wanted to see if it was something he could do, and to make sure I got the right fabric. He then said there's nothing he could do because I didn't have it. He rudely walked away and sat down and continued to ignore me. Horrible customer service. He didn't tell me to get fabric and come back. Nothing. He just ignored me. I found a much better place to go to later on. Definitely never going there again. That's not how you gain customers. read more

A week or so ago, I brought in 10 shirts and 3 pairs of pants to be cleaned (trip #1 to cleaners). Upon returning to pick up the laundry when it was ready (trip #2), I went home to unwrap them and put them away. As I began to unwrap the shirts, I saw that 2 had been ripped in the same spot on the same sleeve in the same manner - a slash, if you will, about an inch and a half long. A third shirt was clearly burnt by their press. I returned to the cleaners the same day (trip #3). I explained the situation to the young man at the counter. He said he would get someone to help. A woman came out and I explained to her the situation as well. She was very cordial but said she would need to get her husband to help me. After a few moments the owner/husband came out so I explained the situation and showed him the 3 damaged shirts. At first, he tried to defend the issues by saying that the burns looked like stains (even tried to smell the shirt which I found odd given that they were just cleaned by them) and that the elbow tears were probably due to wear on the shirts. I explained that the two ripped shirts were only a few years old and they don't get worn every day. And regardless, they came into the shop without these tears being there. He took me out back to show me the process and said it was highly unlikely that someone ripped the shirts and again stated it must have been from wearing them since the tears were near the elbow. After discussing the situation further, he granted me a $20 store credit plus gave me $15 in cash for the 2 torn shirts. The burnt shirt he asked if I could leave with him so that they could try to get the "stains" out. He said the shirt would be ready Saturday. Went to the cleaners today (trip #4) to pick up the shirt that was ready on Saturday. Upon receiving the shirt, I took off the clear wrapping only to see that there was no difference in the shirt. Asked to speak to the owner again. The woman from last week came out and said that her husband would have to handle this but he wasn't there. She said he would contact me to discuss. I am giving 1 star until the situation is resolved at which point it will remain 1 star or go up. To be continued...... read more

I have used Lapels many times in the past, with no issues. (conveniently, Jerry indicated they purge their computers, so there were no previous records) However, this time I brought in my dress (along with other items) that was worn only once, and it came back destroyed. There was a snag and it appears as if something rubbed against the material causing damage to the fabric. When I called and gave my name, the person that answered asked if it was the blue dress, which it was. There is no proof of this conversation because I didn't think I needed that documentation. That same person said as long as I had a receipt, and brought the dress back to the store, I should be able to be reimbursed. I brought the dress in along with my receipt and left it until the manager, Jerry, could look at it. Also, I should note I just purchased the dress on 11-15-2019, and wore it for my son's wedding on 1-30-2020. I usually check the items during pick up however, this time my husband picked up the items and I checked them the same evening and called Lapels the following morning. My mistake....... When Jerry called back, he indicated in no way that they damaged the dress..... if you look where the damage is, you will see its from a belt that was worn with the dress. It's nothing Lapels did. I wore the dress, and never wore a belt, especially since it is a cover up jacket for the dress. I expected compensation for the dress, however, Jerry said they rarely damage any items and can only recall a small number of items in 20+ years of business. In good faith, Jerry did offer me an instore credit for the amount of the dress plus the cleaning cost. He keeps the dress, but to me that really is not acceptable. Since he has a copy of the receipt and the dress, he will donate it and take a full tax credit as well. How convenient! So now I have a credit at a dry-cleaning store that I completely lost trust in. I will not bring any delicates back to this store for sure, and unsure how I'm going to ever use that credit. read more

Without a doubt this is the best dry cleaner that I have found in the East Valley. The service is outstanding and very personal. The owners are very accessible and take pride in offering personal service. The staff is extremely friendly and flexible with special requests. On more than one occasion I have taken an item in that I was afraid could not be saved even by a dry cleaner. They never disappoint! They take great care of your clothes with a very high level of attention to detail. Great customer service along with a quality product is extremely important to me. About 2 weeks ago Lapels lost the bag they supply for the customers, not a big deal, it only had a couple of stamps and a $5 coupon. I think was Jeff who was on duty as the mgr. Man He simply made it right, in fact he went above and beyond. The back story. About a year ago I decided to start using another service. Although the issue I had back then was resolved. It was simply trust, I felt that I was "seen" as a second class person, perhaps who doesn't fit the demographic profile of Gilbert, so I felt that my patronage was not treated the same as others. As frequent traveler, i.e. on average every week. I need a reliable service, who values me as a customer!!!! So I put that predisposed idea aside, and decided to tray Lapels again!!! So I dropped off my shirts an pants, politely told the attendant, I'll need same day service. Well guess what..... My paints were done, but my shirts were not .. so where are my shirts!!!!! Well, here is how Jeff solved the problem... I'm sitting with my wife at home, still thinking that I need to go and prepare shirts for Monday a.am. and the door bell rang!! Standing at the door was Jeff the owner, with my shirts in his hand !!!! Wait, I know that he does not have his crew work on Sunday's, something I respect deeply So I can only conclude it that he himself must have taken time to go to the store on a Sunday and finished my shirts !!! and then personally deliver them to my home !!! This is what we call in my industry "Best-In-Class" service. And while I don't know how the process failed me, I can say that management went above and beyond my expectations. and did what I do not believe I have seen in a majority of service oriented businesses. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE IF YOU NEED YOUR CLOTHES ON TIME!!! The is an expensive dry cleaners to begin with. I dropped two suits and a few other items on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and was told the clothes would be ready on Saturday. I always get an email when my clothes are ready. At 5pm I realized I never received the email so I called immediately and the person I spoke with said the order was only partially ready, then can back and said "it looks like it was entered incorrectly and that the order is probably ready", but said he was leaving now at 5:02pm so there was nothing he could do. Now I have 1 suit for a week long over seas business trip! I WILL NEVER USE THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! read more

Don't go here!!! My husband just picked up his shirts got home to put one on and the are wrinkled! Had to pull out the ironing board and do it myself after just having spent money for someone else to do it. We were supposed to have the heaviest starch, nothing! My review is in 2 parts: I am giving 5+ stars for Connie, their tailor. She has an amazing talent! I've had many items altered & I have always been very happy with her work. She is very professional and pleasant to deal with. Hats off to her! I would like to give the dry cleaning portion of this review 5 stars as well, but can't. I brought in 11 area rugs to be cleaned & I was pleased with 9 of the 11 items. 2 of the rugs were not soiled but needed freshening - they are my upstairs bathroom rugs. As a note: my husband & I do not wear our outside shoes in the house at all, we do not have grease in our house, no pets or children and we are very clean. When I brought my rugs home all were cleaned nicely except the 2 rugs we use upstairs. They had grease marks on them, felt greasy & they smelled like they had been laundered with some other workers greasy clothing. I brought them back the next day to show them they were worse than when I brought them in. They offered to re-clean them - I was looking forward to having them cleaned properly so I left them there to be re-done. When I picked them up, they were still damp & smelled even worse of cleaning agents. The staff person recommended that I talk with Jerry, the General Manager. So I called him & came back to show him my rugs. He was very hesitant to agree that I in fact had them cleaned there. He was questioning the description of what was on the order & what the rugs looked like. I have no idea what the staff person put down as a description on the order - who looks at the description of the items on their cleaning order? He was very condescending to me & made me very upset because he was insinuating that I didn't bring those rugs into his store. I am an honest person. He said they smelled like different cleaning agents were used than what they use. He then said he would clean them again himself. I picked them up after the weekend & they looked & smelled the same. Why did they smell the same if they don't use those cleaning agents? I said I was very unhappy & all he could offer was a refund on the cleaning of these 2 rugs which I did get. My problem is I cannot use these rugs anymore. They stink, they still have greasy stains & feel greasy. Jerry was not very professional at all so I will take my items to a different cleaner for cleaning purposes. I will continue to take my items to Connie because she is awesome. The rest of the staff are pleasant. read more

Lapel provides great services and the staff there is always helpful and courteous. They always returned my uniform pressed and crisp. I love the email notification when my clothes were ready for pick up. Sometimes it was the same day or next day. They also can provide military discounts and yearly statements of your orders. Awful first impression..not going back to give them another chance. I turned in three alteration items and only two were done when I went to pick them up. One was sewing button on pants...they forgot. Other was tightening buttons on suit jacket which they said they don't do yet they charged me for it anyways. Manager was rude. I had to wait while they sewed the button on the pants. I told the manager I had my baby and dog waiting in the running car outside (it was 116 degrees that day) and he was very sarcastic and told me to wait in the car with my baby and dog and he would bring my pants out when they were done. Not a good way to make a first impression...and an even worse way to deal with a very unhappy customer. If you need dry cleaning you are better off going to to the discount place down the street at Val Vista and Ray by the water and ice (save yourself the money) and I'll find another place for alterations (hopefully a mom-and-pop place I can support). Lapels looks nice and clean so I figured they would be professional ...boy was I wrong. read more

Expensive and not good work. You pay when you pick up so it's a surprise on how much the bill is going to be. Still had spots on collars. Top buttons were not buttoned so freshly pressed shirt was wrinkled at the top of the collar. The attendant was speechless when I pointed out the spots and the other problems. Lapels was the 3rd dry cleaning business that I called this morning to find out if it was possible to remove small blue ink stains from an almost new 3 color designer leather handbag. I was fortunate enough to speak to Janet at Lapels, who patiently explained that blue ink spots on a leather handbag would be almost impossible to remove through dry cleaning. She told me that they could charge the normal fee, but not make any promises about the outcome. Her honesty was a breath of fresh air, especially since I had already inquired about the problem with 2 other dry cleaning companies, and felt uncomfortable about their answers. She then patiently and pleasantly answered some other questions I had about dry cleaning in general (chemicals, etc.). Since a dry cleaning store, with tailor services, I had used for years closed I have been trying all the new ones that have opened up in my area and, for various reasons, they have been disappointing. Janet recommended looking for leather cleaning advice in a book by a well known author, which I already happen to have. I followed the directions in the book and, to my surprise, it removed the ink stains completely without any damage to the leather. After speaking with Janet, who told me she has been in the dry cleaning business for 40+ years, I feel that the integrity of Lapels makes it a trustworthy business that I will certainly use for my dry cleaning and tailor services from now on. read more

Dropped off a feather mattress topper on Sunday. The man at the counter seemed confused about what it was, thought it was a down comforter. I explained to him it was not a comforter, that it goes on top of the mattress and you lay on top of it. So then he told me the price would be $35. Got a call on Tuesday that it was actually going to be $50 not $35 because it was a mattress topper, not a comforter. REALLY??? Yes that is what I told them when I dropped it off and that's the price they told me. I feel if they made a mistake on their end then they should have just ate the difference. POOR Customer service!!! Especially since I was a first time customer, not a good impression to make. read more

I don't think I have ever been treated so poorly by a business! When I first walked in the blond lady at the counter was rude to me and kept demanding I give her my name, address, etc. I told her I actually needed alterations done not dry cleaning and she sarcastically laughed at me like I was stupid and said that they were the same business. I was under the impression that the tailor rented the space out from them. Anyway, then when we went over to the tailor he ignored us and I had to speak to him a couple of times to try to get his attention. When he finally did pay attention to us he did not seem to know how to properly alter the suit for my daughter. He kept talking about her breasts being too small to fit the suit. I told him we would check with her coach and see if what he was suggesting would work and told my daughter to go change back into her clothes and take his pins out of the suit and give them back to him. He emphatically said that we could keep the pins in the suit and bring them back when we came back so we bundled everything up and left the store. As I was backing out of the parking space the owner heatedly came out and made the motion for me to roll down my window. He, almost yelling at me, demanded I give him back his pins from my daughter's dress. I said "How do you stay in business when you speak to your customers like this?" He kept saying we were not customers and that we needed to give him back his pins NOW. I told him he could have them back - that we were going to originally give them back before but the tailor had said to keep them until we spoke to our coach. Then, all of a sudden he calmed down and said he had been misinformed about us (by the rude lady??) and that he was sorry and that we would be given a 15% discount when we came back. I am sorry but that is not enough compensation for having the owner tell us off over 25-50 cents in pins and all the poor customer service we received! Definitely NOT going back to be subjected to that again. And that was our first time trying them - nice first impression! Btw we found a lovely lady in Chandler that does alterations for half the price they were charging and she does an excellent job. read more
