Set on the top level, this restaurant is tucked away where you find an intimate dinner experience awaiting after walking through a bakery and climbing up a spiral staircase. Once you're there, an intimate dinner awaits with the candles and the tables set adorned with wild flowers. They offer a small, but finely crafted dinner menu with freshly prepared food where you can see the chefs at work. Their house bread is delightfully flavorful like a rustic bread should be. What a complete reversal from our first wonderful experience. The only positives were the Manhattan expresso and the valet. The drink was amazing with such a deep aroma and flavor. The valet was super busy and yet very nice. As I walked in the front desk watched me the whole way and then followed me into the bar/restaurant. She walked through 2 more times over the next 60 minutes starring at me. Weird! The bartender tried but it was hard. First, a manager, I assume, spent 10 uncomfortable minutes discussing with the staff how they needed to take ownership and know the menu better, what wines were by the glass vs bottle, and more. All of that in front of me. Then we rarely had anyone return. A young lady noticed finally and got our drink and app order...which she proceeded to get wrong. The app was the bacon cheddar biscuits .. yum! However, the apricot jam and buttery came plopped on a plate instead of in a small sauce container.. the butter had already melted and the jam was hard to get on a knife. I was in San Antonio for the first week of December for the marathon, and came into the city Saturday evening. My boyfriend and I were trying to get to Pharm Table for dinner, but my car GPS brought us to this area of downtown instead, lol. Since we already paid $16 for parking (ugh), we decided to find someplace to eat near where we parked. When we tried to go to a nearby Mexican restaurant first, the concierge at that hotel recommended we go to Landrace at the Thompson. No doubt that the ambiance is very fancy and feels upscale, but the staff were very chill and it took no time to feel at ease. Unfortunately, there are not many vegetarian options, but the staff are accomodating and are able to customize items as needed. To start, we got the brussels sprouts. The first time around, they came with bacon so we sent them back, but they did not make a fuss about having to do that for us. My boyfriend had the catch of the day for his entree (halibut I believe?) which he enjoyed, and I was able to get a "fake bolognese" gnocchi dish made with mushroom and olive. The pasta itself was nothing special, but that was great in regards to eating a meal that would not give me tummy troubles for my race the next morning! Our dessert however was incredible. I have been here before and the food and service has always been great. This time I came before a show at the Tobin center. It was around 5:30 PM and it wasn't too busy. We started with the chickpea and mushroom meatballs. I will have to say they had great flavor, but they were cold. Don't know if they were meant to be cold because some of them tasted slightly warm on the outside. I may be overreacting regarding the meatballs, but if they were going to microwave them, they should have left them in their long enough. For my meal, I ordered the Alaskan king salmon Cobb salad. It was a good portion. The smoke tomato dressing was just a little too overpowering for me, but overall the salad was great. The blue cheese complemented the dish and the salmon portion was a good size. My friend got the burger and fries. The burger was good. He added bacon. Service was good. This is such a sophisticated yet cozy restaurant. It fits perfectly with the Thompson Hotel that it is located inside.There is also complimentary valet parking when you eat there. They servers and valets are polite and provided good service. I didn't order from the regular menu but went on Thanksgiving Day for a special holiday brunch buffet. They had a nice selection of cheeses, breakfast items and lunch appetizers. The Bloody Mary that I ordered was quite good. The only thing is the Turducken and Roast beef were a little overcooked for my preference. I'd like to come back again during a normal evening for dinner. If you are looking for delicious and high quality bruch, Landrace is for you! Last weekend my friends and I decided to checkout Landrace for breakfast/brunch. I think most people associate the restaurant with steaks and dinner, but their brunch is out of this world. The menu itself is small but mighty with multiple options for everyone. For my first time I decided to go with the Brisket Benedict, which includes BBQ bearnaise, fried shallots and avocado. The eggs were cooked to PERFECTION! Eggs benedict can be a hit or miss at many other restaurants but Landrace nailed them! Also, the brisket was absolutely delicious and was not too sweet. The only thing I was not a super huge fan of was the bread they used, but regardless of that the eggs were probably one of the best I've had in a very long time. My fiance and I went to Landrace for a date night in May - the ambiance was quiet and lovely and the service was efficient with a couple of hiccups, but the night went smoothly overall. We had the beef tartare to start with and later moved on to the Filet Mignon with a side of the chimichurri bearnaise and Homm Pomme Aligot, and the double cut Pork Chop with a side of the Brisket Mac n' Cheese. All of the dishes were quite delicious! Although it is definitely on the pricier side, the overall experience of dining at Landrace justifies the expense to some extent. When it comes to some of the cons, as I mentioned earlier there were a few irregularities with certain items being sent to our table twice or not at all but our server was able to deal with the snags quite professionally. The difference in the literal sizes of our mains was a little surprising and I wish we had been given some warning while placing our orders, but in the end it was a good experience altogether. read more

I spent a weekend in San Antonio for Halloween. On Sunday, before heading back to Houston, we stopped by Landrace for brunch. We were excited to check it out as the chef is a James Beard finalist. Located in a hotel, while Landrace is on the River Walk, it's not in the super busy stretch of the River Walk. It's off of the beaten path a little bit. They have a nice little patio but since it was pretty hot, we decided to dine indoors. I went with the croque madame which is served with a fried egg and a side of fries. I've had quite a few croque madames in my life and this one was up there with the best. The sauce was oozing out of the sandwich. The bread was fresh. And the fried egg was a nice addition. The crispy fries also delivered. Service was standard. While many of the items on the menu were a bit pricey, the entree I had packed provided good value. Next time around, I'd love to check them out for dinner! read more

A Staycation, A Sweet Tooth, and a Hero Named Diego My wife and I checked into the Thompson Hotel for a little staycation, and at the front desk, we were given the rundown: two restaurants on-site--Landrace in the lobby (open until 10 PM) and The Moon's Daughters on the top floor (open until midnight). Fast forward to 9:40 PM, when our sweet tooth hit hard. The solution? Landrace's famous Basque cheesecake, which had been hyped up in reviews. I called guest services, only to be told Landrace closed at 9 PM. Confused, I reminded them that I was just told at check-in it was open until 10. Still, no dice. So, I took matters into my own hands and called Landrace directly. Someone answered. Hope! But no, they too insisted the kitchen was closed, and despite my heartfelt plea for just one slice of cheesecake, I was politely shut down. Disappointed, I broke the news to my wife--no cheesecake tonight. Cue the tiny violin. Then, at 9:50 PM, a knock at the door. Standing there like a dessert-delivering angel was Diego Wright, the bartender. With a warm smile and the cheesecake in hand, he told us he had overheard the call and took it upon himself to make it happen. Let me tell you, that first bite was life-changing--creamy, rich, with just the right amount of caramelized goodness. But the real star of the night? Diego. Landrace? Fantastic. The cheesecake? A must. Room 1109? A sweet spot. But Diego? Legendary. 10/10 would stay again--partially for the hotel, mostly for the cheesecake, but entirely for Diego. read more

When you first walk in, the smells and aesthetic of the restaurant give off cozy and intimate vibes. Which I think is fantastic for a hotel restaurant. I wanted to do something special for my birthday, and the Thompson came to mind. This fabulous high rise hotel is located right downtown and boasts beautiful art throughout. It is also the home of the rooftop lounge - Moon's Daughter and Landrace restaurant, which is where we had my birthday dinner! Sophisticated decor with low lighting and general lack of children set the stage for a perfect adult evening with my dear friends. Our server, Adam, was amazing! He was very knowledgeable, attentive, and prompt! The rest of the staff were wonderful as well - keeping our water glasses full and our table clean at all times! We tried a few appetizers and each had a different main course. We also sampled a few of their cocktails and got a complimentary ooye gooey nutty Texas fudge cake! I'll put the names of all the dishes under the pix! Everything was just fantastic and we had a great time! P.S. The hotel has valet parking, which is usually $30, but Landrace can validate it for you! But don't forget to bring some small bills to tip the valet staff as this hotel is cashless and we had the hardest time breaking a higher bill note. read more

The food was absolutely amazing the we had a huge range of food from stuffed zucchini to this amazing Prime Tib that just melted in your mouth like my good!!! Then they hand this yummy and I mean yummy pudding thing with a double chocolate chip cookie that was just absolutely delicious and then this watch chocolate Texas cake with pecans it's was so moist like I'm screaming just thinking about it!! The drinks were so tasty from the sangra to the margarita the waiters were so efficient and fast with the service. Very attentive and kind! The aura is definitely casual high end restaurant like you don't have to be super fancy but it's nice and cute for date night with a river walk view! Note: This review pertains only to the breakfast buffet. When I read that Steve McHugh -- four-time James Beard nominee and chef at Cured -- had opened a posh new restaurant at the ultra exclusive, ultra expensive Thompson hotel/condo in Downtown San Antonio, I was intrigued. After all, this was the man who made charcuterie a five-star degustatory experience worthy of at least one Michelin star. Surely every aspect of his new venture would equal, if not rival, the lofty standards set by Cured. Perhaps dinner service meets or exceeds that standard, but the breakfast buffet (available Monday through Thursday for $22) left me cold...literally. When my dad and I entered the restaurant, we were surprised to find it nearly empty. Aside from two other parties (including a gaggle of screaming crotchfruits), the vast, cavernous dining room sat unoccupied. I wondered immediately how fresh the buffet items would be given the slow turnover. The hostess struck me as totally out of her element; on three separate occasions, she asked if we were guests of the hotel. Her attempts at small talk were awkward and invasive; it's one thing to ask, "How's your morning so far?" and another to ask, "So why are you off work? Where do you work?" Maybe the management instructed her to engage with customers, but she needs to learn the difference between small talk and interrogation. Whenever I visit a buffet with which I'm unfamiliar, I take moment to peruse the offerings before loading up my plate. My initial impression was mostly positive. I noted the fresh fruits, the veiny blue cheese, the extra thick kielbasa bacon, the plump sausages, and cute serving-sized jars of Bonne Maman preserves. Less impressive was the music selection emanating from the kitchen. I listen to a lot of provocative, controversial music, so I'm accustomed to subversive lyrics and uncouth topics. When I hear the "N" word uttered multiple times against an obnoxious, monotone hip hop beat, however, I become perturbed. I don't expect the kitchen staff to play Mozart, but perhaps expletive-laced hip hop isn't the ideal choice of music for your guests. The food was tasty overall, but temperature was an issue across all items. I appreciated the soft scrambled eggs (as opposed to the spongy powdered garbage found at most breakfast buffets), but they were lukewarm at best. Ditto for the bacon and sausage links. When I mentioned the temperature issue to one of the helpers behind the buffet stand, he grunted something incoherent and darted back into the kitchen. When I returned for a second helping, the food was still tepid. Perhaps I'm being unfair by focusing on the breakfast buffet when this restaurant's focus is on an upscale, seasonal dinner menu that, per their website, "...celebrates regional Texas ingredients and heritage growers close to home." I suspect I would greatly enjoy that menu, but I expect a restaurant's standards to be consistent across breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. Clearly, at a minimum, Chef McHugh needs to retool the breakfast buffet or perhaps offer made-to-order breakfasts. read more

Hush puppies were served with popcorn, which was a fun fancy finger food, but the popcorn was stale. The hush puppies were okay, crunchy on the outside, a little dry on the inside, but served piping hot from the fryer. Bone marrow toasts were impressive looking but a bit bland. The toasts they were served with had the texture of HEB's $1 French bread - fine crumb and a soft crust. The apple salad we had was nice and refreshing. Scallops were served with a tasty truffle orzo, but the scallops were unpleasantly chewy. My date had the pork chop, it was alright, but nothing special. Our server was fantastic and helped us through the menu and has great timing on checking in with us. Wasn't super thrilled with the items I ordered but after eating off some other folks plates I'd recommend: Pork Belly Tacos Filet New York Strip Carrots side (just do it trust me) Carrot Cake I ordered the scallops but felt that the flavor profile was not at all what I was expecting - it also wasn't a great flavor. When I order scallops, I'm expecting charred edges with flavors of butter, salt, lemon and maybe some parsley. The side for the scallops was good (truffle corn orzo) but serving it in the corn husk was an odd choice to me. Service also felt a bit pretentious at first which I didn't like. While looking for something different to try for my husband's birthday, I came across the L2 Chef's Counter experience at LandraceTx downtown at the Thompson. I made the reservation through their website and chose a 7pm seating with the 7-course menu. The menu is specially curated by the chef for your specific occasion with creative off-menu dishes prepared by Chef Omar. Being seated at the K-Bar (kitchen bar) allows you to see all the action in the kitchen- the regular restaurant fare and your own dishes, from preparation to plating, and the careful attention given to each plate. Alex, our server, took excellent care of us throughout the evening and made sure we had everything we needed at all times. Our courses were: 1. Arancini with Italian salsa verde 2. Butternut squash soup with brown butter poached lobster 3. Tuna tataki with XO sauce and gochujang aioli 4. Brussels sprouts salad with crushed Texas peanuts, dressed in a Dijon vinaigrette 5. Blue crab tacos- a take on surf & turf with Wagyu steak and oyster dressing 6. Lamb t-bone chops with tricolor carrot purée, black truffle 7. Apple hand pie (think "empanadas") with horchata ice cream and a bourbon cajeta drizzle Everything was absolutely delicious! A representative will contact you a few days before the reservation to discuss likes, dislikes, allergies, etc. The entire experience lasted just over 2 hours (maybe we're slow eaters?) and towards the end we had a really pleasant conversation with Chef Omar and got to know a little bit about him and his family (and where he likes to eat in his off time!). Your place setting includes a printed copy of your personalized menu if you want to have it as a keepsake. We would absolutely do this again and highly recommend this experience to anyone, both locals and visitors, looking to do something special and different. Keep in mind, each menu is unique so your menu may not look like ours, but it will be equally delicious, I'm sure! It was chilly and raining, so we used the valet service at the hotel- if you do this, don't forget to have your ticket validated by the restaurant for free valet parking, otherwise expect to pay $30. Not sure how this review got away from me, considering this was the best event ever. The food here was divine. there's no other word for it. The beef was so tender and juicy. And the dessert. Omg don't cheat yaself, treat yaself. You know how sometimes you go out to dinner and you think you don't need dessert? This is not one of those times. Honestly, the entire interior is a vibe. A bit of a conundrum really. The restaurant has a James Beard finalist as a chef, however the menu is really one of a steak house. A couple of salads, a soup, a scallop dish and fish, Halibut on this visit entree. The rest is steak house forward operation. There were a few starters which we had and they were excellent, so lets break this down a bit. I first want to comment on the exceptional service we received the two evenings we spent at the Landrace. Diego is an absolute gem behind their bar. As is a waitress, whose name I didn't get, but she reminded me of Cowboy Andy's of Toy Story's Cowgirl girlfriend. Petite, cute and very helpful and friendly student teacher as her second job. We did interact with other servers and all of them were just great, friendly and happy. How does one pull that off? I have no idea, but you can tell they all like working together and enjoy their jobs. Diego was very attentive and informative of their menu and some recommendations for venues outside the restaurant as well. We booked an additional evening to stay because of his service alone. Food. Here goes. We noshed on the Citrus Cured Tuna $18 twice. Perfectly weighted citrus per tuna ratio so you could actually taste the tuna. Many a time when we order this type of combination, it is very citrus forward, not so here. We were lucky enough on our first afternoon to score the last of the Fried Corn Blackbean Squash Blossom $17. This was steller. Again the Jalapeno Chimichurri and Cojita Chesee was there to accent and not to dominate the tender blossoms, perfectly rolled in what looked like a little scotch egg. Truly delicious and would have ordered a second one if we didn't get the last of them. After a little visit on the town we got in later and headed up to our room and choose to order room service. Here is where technology got in the way. The bar code ordering system seemed to suggest that we couldn't order anything until 9pm and then it didn't work at all. We called down and a friendly chap delivered a menu and I ordered a couple of Angus burgers $20 from him. They arrived in due course and were huge! Scarffed on a few of the fries, didn't realize they came with fries, so we had also ordered the Homm Pommes Aligot $8. The Pommes were yummy and creamy, however unfortunately one big bite of the burger revealed a very rare, rare. I muscled through the first bite, but on the second bite, I gave up. Same with Suzie's burger. We just motored through the Pommes and fries and kicked back. I just don't like to complain, but I really want to let the kitchen know, that this wasn't their best work so I did call down and talked to a very empathetic manager who took the order off our bill and wanted to send up a new order. It was late and we were good so politely declined. The next evening we planned on dining proper up at the bar so Deigo could take care of us and were pleased to find room for that. On this occassion, Suzie rustled up a 8oz Tx Filet $45 and I the Double Pork Chop $48. Sides of Burnt Ends Brisket Mac n' Cheese $12 and Isaac's Mighty Mushrooms $18 as one does. The restaurant was buzzing and we were enjoying the vibe and then our meals arrived. Out comes the massive pork chop and a big wodge of Filet for Suzie. The Mac n' Cheese and Shrooms were on point and yummy. My pork was juicy, fatty and tender cooked medium. Unfortunately, Suzie's Filet was a repeat performance of rare, rare. At this point, we are wondering if it is us? She offered me a bite which I chewed on, an ended up putting it on the side of the plate. Should we be ordering things here Med Well? I just don't know, I got the rest of my pork to-go and the steak was returned and credited on our bill. Bummer. On the brighter side, the room service breekies were large and good. The Croque Madame $18, Landrace Bowl with Brisket $30, Steel Cut Oats $14 and Egg Scramble with potatoes and sausage $15 on the days we were there all were good, large filling portions to start the day off well. I will be the first to say that we are not big steakhouse folks so it very well maybe that this is a traditional Medium these days, however the experience we had, they were definitely to us, way to rare. I will admit, we did get confirmation from our severer and didn't seem to have any push back from the kitchen. It won't deter us from coming back in the future. read more

Finally was able to make HH and Landrace and it was a very good experience. We happened to be there 30 min before the dinner menu kicked in so we had a drink and talked until then bc I wanted to try the food. The ambiance was nice and the place fairly empty bc of the timing but once the dinner menu time hit ppl were rolling in consistently. Once I looked at the menu I knew I had to order the scallops because those are my absolute favorite. The scallops come with a truffle orzo pasta, which is very yummy, and the other dish we ordered was a house steak, which comes with sautéed kale, fried crab fingers, and a chimichurri sauce. Both were delicious and the drinks superb. My ONLY small gripe was since we were one of less than a handful of tables to serve at that time, it took a while to be checked on. Very minor thing though. The staff was walking back and forth so my assumption was they were prepping for dinner. Overall it is a place I'd love to come back to for another dinner and some delicious HH drinks! read more

We've heard about this place several times and decided to make a reservation for our anniversary. I'm not usually picky about seating but I noted on the reservation that it was our anniversary and we were sat in the center of the restaurant instead of one of the cozier booths/partial booths even though the restaurant was at about 20% capacity on a Sunday night. Then the server forgot it was our anniversary. I wouldn't celebrate a special occasion here again, but I would absolutely have their steak again. Everything included with the house steak was delicious, from the perfectly cooked steak, to the velvety soft potatoes to the crab fingers. I had a smoke and rye to drink, which I was not a fan of. The beef tartare was average but the grits and brisket mac and cheese sides were great. read more

We were here for my friend's birthday and the staff treated us kindly and provided wonderful service. We ordered the Angus Burger, Citrus Cured Tuna, and Strawberry Salad with chicken. We all loved our food and had no complaints. The fruits in the salad were so fresh and this was probably one of the best strawberry salads I've ever had. The fries that accompanied the burger were amazing. I am picky with fries but these had the perfect crunch and potato ratio. They offered different cuts of steak on the menu which I bet would taste great! And there were more steaks on the menu than other items, so I would consider this restaurant more of a steakhouse. Also our server told us that they don't normally offer free dessert for birthdays but was able to let us have some and they served a carrot cake. I am not the biggest fan of carrot cake but this one was exceptionally good! The hotel itself offers valet parking for $30 but there is plenty of street parking and a garage nearby. The hotel itself is very luxe and fancy and that vibe continues as you enter the restaurant which is on the first floor of the hotel. Since we went on a weekday the restaurant was pretty empty but they have a lot of seating and semi private rooms! Even though Landrace is quite pricey I'd go again for a special event! I feel that you do get a good experience which I can't say for most high end restaurants! After dinner you can check out the Moons Daughter which is a roof top bar in the same hotel with some nice views of the city! read more

Reserved a birthday lunch here. Tuesday morning 11am was nice and quiet. Lunched at the outdoor patio and it was scenic to see palm trees and the the end part of the river walk below. Attached to the Thompson hotel. From entrance to seating, I thoroughly enjoyed the decor. Service was efficient. Food was ok, nothing to brag home about. Had the gulf coast crab cakes. The Opera cake was decadent! Would love to come back to try their drink menu and I'm sure it's also just as pretty if the setting was at night. read more

Heard of this newly opened spot, made reservations online and checked it out for dinner mid-week. It was a great experience! My husband is high risk so we specified outdoor seating only. Though they weren't entirely ready, the manager accommodated us and seated us outside. They're still working on getting umbrellas for each table but it was perfectly fine for us. Loved the view of the river, it was a quiet ambiance, and we enjoyed the lights on the Tobin Center. We tried Phoenix Rising and Hang Up Your Spurs cocktails and enjoyed both. 2 appetizers to kick off the meal: Canoe cut bone marrow and Grilled BBQ oysters. I felt like eating all the bread with the bone marrow...so good! The BBQ sauce on the oysters were a tad bit salty but the oysters were cooked just right. I had the Tamarind Glaze Duck Breast with black rice salad and foie gras. Cooked perfectly, loved the sauce, loved the vinegary taste to the rice, and the foie gras was sweet. My husband had the Riverence Trout and enjoyed all of it. We did get 2 sides: Wood grilled broccoli rabe and King Trumpets three ways (grilled, sautéed and simmered). We ended the meal with the Opera Cake. Couldn't finish the dessert and gladly brought it home. Shayla did a great job! Fine dining at its finest! Looking forward to trying more dishes. read more

Came here before a concert at the Tobin Center. We chose the restaurant because of its special meal specifically for customers going to the Tobin Center. (3 course meal $50) only to learn it's not really &50 it's more line $69 dollars. When I asked about the discrepancy I was told that the chef changes his mind and that affects the price. I think in the 21st century they should be able to keep up with there advertised price. I hope this review at least makes the management think about what they list as pricing. read more

I dream about this filet mignon almost every night. It was so good and I can't wait to come back - it's pricey, but worth the splurge for a special occasion! I knock this down from 5 stars to 4 only because of the service. I was with a group of young adults and I felt it was a bit pretentious.. Stay away. There are better options. This place went from a place that I was eager to take my wife to on date night to a place that I'm embarrassed to have brought my family from out of town to. It started in December when I went to the bar and ordered a scotch neat and was charged above the menu price because apparently they have to charge extra for it to be neat since they "have to pour a little extra". Also the base price they charged was $6 more than the menu price. When I brought this to their attention they said "oh the menu shouldn't say that, so we will split the difference, but I still have to charge your the neat up charge." BS. Fast forward to tonight. Thinking the December incident was a one time event we took family and friends from out of town, eager to show them this nice restaurant. Food and drinks were good. Service was good. But it all came down to how they charged us again. Remember how I said they charge extra of your drink is neat? Turns put they also charge $2 extra for an ice cube. Frozen water. Old fashioned? Yeah let's just charge $5 extra above the menu price for whiskey for that single cherry and orange peel ($2 ice cube presumably included). Espresso? $4 on the menu but charged $6. Kids mac and cheese? $10 on the menu but $13 on the ticket, because "we don't have kids mac and cheese." Excuse me? According to the kids menu you do. Landrace will nickel and dime you and charge you other than what the menu says, so make sure to take a good look before handing over your card. Guess there's a reason it's dead inside. Do yourself a favor and check out the Esquire Tavern, also downtown. Better food, drinks, ambiance, and prices. read more

Beautiful place, but our experience left a LOT to be desired. Everyone was very friendly, but we had too many issues. Our server forgot several items- sugar, a food item, & then we ordered a 2nd pour over coffee for the table, & instead of bringing that out, she brought the bill. Some of the food is way overpriced, such as the avocado toast, which is listed as a starter, but is $14. I got that as my meal with a side of potatoes; for $14 I was expecting at least a couple pieces, or maybe some homemade thick bread. Nope. I got 1 single thin piece of toast. No egg, nothing special on it. My friend got a cinnamon roll, it was really hard, covered in a watery icing, & it was $6. I'm not 1 to post bad reviews, but when you go into a higher end restaurant & pay high prices for food, you expect good service & great food, & fair portions. Y'all need to do some major reevaluating. We would never come back here unfortunately. read more

Dinner review: We were here last year and this place has deteriorated some. I am posting a picture of the pork chop and caesar salad in 2021 vs pork chop in 2022. I thought the pork tasted a bit strange. Should have sent it back in retrospect. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of the 2022 caesar salad - it was ok but a different arrangement from Oct, 2021. This year the lettuce was not shredded. Croutons (good) have arrived and toppings are different. Side of truffle fries delivered was plentiful and delicious, and the cheddar jalapeño grits were creamy, warm and awesome. We also enjoyed the burger. It is however big and difficult/gooey to eat. I could also do without the sweet pickle slices, though that is a very personal preference. We stayed at Thompson San Antonio shortly after opening. We weren't able to get reservations here on our own, but the front desk was able to get us a reservation at the bar. We ended up getting a table in the bar area, but the bar had plenty of space too. The ambiance was great and the place was pretty crowded. Our server/bartender was amazing. The mayor of San Antonio was also here, so that was really cool! We started with the bread service, which came with a very smokey butter and oil mix. I got the pork chop and my wife got the chicken. We shared the pommes dauphinois and the broccoli rabe. Everything came out perfect. The chicken and potatoes both had a great crust and the broccoli rabe was really smokey. The pork chop was juicy and WAY bigger than I expected. read more

We came here expecting fairly straightforward hotel fare. But we were pleasantly surprised by the ambience and deliciousness of the dinner selections. We had the duck confit wings, the filet mignon, the homm pommes aligot, and a flight of sauces.
