Bar Loretta was such a fantastic find. We were staying at the Marriott Rivercenter on the River Walk and wanted to get away from the super touristy River Walk scene. Earlier in the day I took a walk through the King William neighborhood and stumbled on this beautiful old house with an inviting vibe. We were so glad we came back for dinner. We were a group of five with a reservation and from start to finish the experience was excellent. Our server, Raymond, was personable, friendly, and genuinely great at his job. He gave thoughtful recommendations and made the evening feel relaxed and welcoming. We started by sharing several dishes, all of which were spot on: Pears and Greens salad with lardons, frisée, arugula, radicchio, endive, Danish blue, and bacon vin - $16. Fresh, balanced, and perfect for sharing. Crispy Brussels Sprouts with maple, herbs, pecans, and cotija - $10. Crispy, flavorful, and addictive. Mac and Cheese - $12. Rich, comforting, and well executed. For mains, Raymond steered us in all the right directions: Mustard Glazed Faroe Island Salmon with warm fingerling potatoes, parsnips, mushrooms, frisée, and herb oil - $30. Beautifully cooked and flavorful. Tomatillo Shrimp with grilled Gulf shrimp, white cheddar grit cake, and tomatillo butter - $28. Bold and delicious. Loretta Burger with crispy prosciutto, manchego, arugula, tomato, grilled red onion, and smash sauce on a brioche bun. Choice of fries or tots - $18 (some had tots, and one had fries - tasty). Absolutely nailed it. Queso Fundido Burger with fried chorizo-queso blanco, charred poblano, and cactus salsa verde. Choice of fries or tots - $20. Indulgent in the best way. My dining companions enjoyed a variety of wonderfully prepared cocktails while I stuck with a Topo Chico. I still felt right at home. Overall, Bar Loretta felt like a world away from the tourist-heavy spots along the River Walk. Dining out has gotten so expensive lately and too often the food or service does not justify the price. I've stopped into Bar Loretta multiple times throughout the years to enjoy their expertly crafted cocktails but have never had the pleasure of enjoying a meal here until this past week. I was stuck between a few different options from the menu because so many of their entrees sounded delicious and went with the recommendation of my server to order the Pan Roasted Pork Ribeye. Y'aaaaaaaaallll. When I placed the first bite in my mouth, it literally dropped back open in shock (very unladylike, I know) and muttered "oh my gosh" with my mouth full before I even knew what I was doing. IT. WAS. SO.GOOD. The combination of flavors (sweet, savory, tarte, and spicy) is one I wouldn't have thought would work ....but the combo of the deliciously tender cut of pork, combined with the smoked almond blue cheese gratine, jalapeño sweet potato mashers, and a blackberry jus was everything I never knew I needed in my life in a dish. Combine this with the always exceptional service and delicious cocktails and it was a perfect visit. Went for an early dinner at 5:30PM on a Saturday before checking out 2nd Saturday in Southtown. Sat at the high top at the bar, my only complaint is the chairs are not the comfiest if you're a big dude. Besides that, if you are under 250lbs, you are golden! We came in for a quick date night without reservations on a Sunday night and were able to be seated quickly at a table. The atmosphere and location are perfect! It's warm and candle-lit with a beautiful bar and piano. We ordered 3 different drinks and they were all unique and tasty. I ordered the chasing ghosts which was served beautifully with orange garnish. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer and the flavors paired perfectly. I ordered a salad and a side of mac & cheese for a small meal. The salad was good, but the Mac & cheese was a little bit too rich and the green onion was overpowering. Fun environment with a great list of cocktails and excellent food! The duck risotto was especially tasty.

The ambiance here is so cute, like much of Southtown and a really nice relaxed vibe inside. The staff are attentive and helpful and I recommend reservations if going in the weekend at peak dinner hours. I do wish they had a larger menu or more frequent rotation of specials. We got the Mac and cheese, creamy, cheesy but still amazingly light, very impressed, the green onion really added to it in a subtle way. She ordered the salmon which was perfectly cooked and came with potatoes, which actually worked well considering you expect rice most of the time. I got the brick chicken with like a Demi glaze, also perfectly cooked and good portion to even share but was a great meal overall. I recommend this place, classy but not pretentious, welcoming and good for date night or family night out. San Antonio is another place for great food. Everything was top-notch here. Great food, great service, great decor. I really like how they had the old school vintage look in this place. I don't know what you would call it but I'm sure there's a name for it. The customer service was top notch. Bree did an outstanding job! Food: everything here was phenomenal. The quail was simply to die for. The fruit and meat tray that we ordered with cheese was the best. Oh my God that was so good. I could go back and order that as a dish that's how good it was. Also, my hamburger or if you wanna call it a smash burger was top notch. Every single bite was full of flavor and it was made to perfection. Their bread, pudding, the chocolate bread pudding with ice cream. Simply amazing. I like the Decor like I said earlier one thing I really enjoyed is how they restored the old-school hardwood floors. What a great touch and look. Another thing it stood out is how they did the tile work with the name in the Tile . I thought that was a unique touch. Such a cute date spot. Or grab-a-drink-with-a-friend spot. My friend and colleague (shout out to Fernanda F!) dropped in during the neighborhood's First Fridays... we were able to immediately grab a seat at the bar and order a glass of red and a cocktail. The bar is dark, sultry - a mix of romantic vibes at a very vintage dive. Service was extremely helpful and welcoming to boot. Had it not been for the delectable food photos I now see on Yelp, I wouldn't have known they're a full-service restaurant "serving elevated, modern Texas cuisine." Earlier last week, we decided to take Dad to @barloretta for dinner. It would be a first for Dad and it's been a while since I've been there. Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had Big in Japan, and I had Ride or Die. All great drinks! Hubby and I shared the Caesar Salad. We all shared the bread service and Brussels sprouts. I highly recommend that you take a trip to this amazing little gem! I am a foodie. I love to travel and I stumbled upon this place on a Work trip. I took an Uber down to the Riverwalk, but the restaurants that surrounded the area seemed very touristy and not great ratings. I found this little rustic house about a 15 minute walk from the Riverside . Snuggled in a little artsy neighborhood. The rustic house is decorated in an artsy New Orleans vibe. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It was chilly outside and I was by myself and the hostess recommend the back patio. No one was outside since it was chilly, but they have heaters and it was absolutely perfect with beautiful music playing through the patio, I had the whole patio to myself with pictures included! so not only was the atmosphere perfect , but the food was just as amazing. I ordered a champagne drink, but wanted fruit in it and they made me this beautiful concoction with blackberries that was better than what I desired!! I started the meal with a warm baguette that was surrounded with butter and radishes. The entrée I ordered was their signature Loretta hamburger, which was an amazing explosion inside your mouth! I ended the meal with their chocolate mousse that was so light with a hint of cinnamon. I thought I was too full to eat, but couldn't stop taking bites out of the to go box. Besides just being an amazing meal, they cooked everything to how I requested!! My service from the hostess to my waitress Tonya matched the food!! This place was recommended to me by some locals so I was excited to give it a try. I googled and yelped this place before hand and both sites said this place opens at 4pm. I got there at 4:05pm and they were closed. Turns out they don't open until 5pm. I waited in my car and noticed that all the employees were taking the parking stalls and parking in front of the building. When I worked in a restaurant, we were not allowed to park near the restaurant front doors to allow parking for customers. But maybe Texas is different. I walked in at 5pm and was immediately greeted and sat at a table. The waiter I had was awesome ! I loved his vibe and energy. He's the only reason for the 3 stars. Food was subpar. I ordered Brussels sprouts for the starter and some were undercooked. I also didn't care for the amount of chamoy and salt they put on it. It was overpowering after eating a few because it made it sour and salty. They should look at adding something for a little sweetness to balance the palate. I also got the beef tenderloin for the entree. I ordered it medium rare and it came out rare. It was seasoned very well so I still ate it. I try to do my best never to send anything back to the kitchen. The potatoes gratin were good and so was the asparagus but nothing to write home about. The cocktails were freaking AWFUL! I understand that they want to be unique and stand out by having "upscale" cocktails but the two I tried were gross. They didn't have any margaritas or any well-known cocktails so I went with something that I thought would be similar to a Paloma which was "chasing ghosts" and it just tasted like vodka, orange peel and sugar. The waiter asked me if I enjoyed my drink and I told him it taste terrible. He swapped it out for another "Paloma" ish item which was the Paloma Roja and again I couldn't drink it with a straight face it was that awful. I just told the waiter I liked it so I wouldn't be a hassle but for the first time in my adult life time, I left without finishing my alcohol which speaks volumes. Lastly, I got the double chocolate bread pudding. I took that one to go and without ice cream. When I got home I opened the to-go tin and was drooling bc it looked so good and chocolately ! Almost like an ooey-gooey brownie! Then I took a bite and again disappointment flooded my veins. The bread was hard! I literally had to pick around to try to find any soft pieces. It was like chocolate covered rocks :( While their service was phenomenal, I will not be back and would not recommend this place to anyone. It's super cute and the photos on their website and Yelp do a great job of luring people in but I could have better food and cocktails at Chili's for a fraction of the price. read more

Street parking is available nearby. I went in a group of four and we typically order a bunch of dishes so we could try them. This time was no different. It could have come with a little more cheese, but the beets were the star. prosciutto crusted morbier cheese: good flavor. Comes with bread and figs. Griddled green onion polenta cake: super good. The goat cheese complemented it well. crispy brussels sprouts: We didn't know what to expect from the brussels sprouts as they came with Chamoy. I have to say they are one of the best Brussel sprouts I've had. It is a good size portion. We also ordered bread that is complementary upon request. It's nice and buttery and comes with oil. For the main dishes; Tequila shrimp: the skewer came with 6 large shrimp on a bed of savory sauce with a very interesting corn cake. We didn't know what to think of the corn cake, but we all agreed we liked it. The boss burger: good size. Good flavor. You get the options of fries or tots. Double cut pork chop: tender. On a bed of savory mashed sweet potato Peppered beef tenderloin: tender. Good portion. Good flavor. For our drinks, we started off with cocktails. I had the till the end. It had ginger and turmeric. Everyone loved mine so much that the second round was the same drink for everyone else. We were too full to get dessert, but we did stop at their market store. The market store is right next-door. They sell, lattes, pastries, sandwiches, cheese, refrigerated goods and dry goods. It is super cute and I plan to go back. I did buy an oatmeal pie from them and I would buy it again. Second time stopping by the Bar Loretta Market for a quick snack. The small market has everything from dry goods, locally sourced meats, wine and even liquor! The food offerings are sandwiches and soups. We had the prosciutto and manchego sandwich with fries and a couple of beers. They carry local breweries like Kunstler shown in photo. On top of all of that they are also a coffee shop with some delicious looking pastries. If you haven't stopped by pay it a visit. read more

To say that I was disappointed with our last visit was an understatement. We had a medical emergency come up that we had to leave for. When the cook was asked to make the order to go, he looked at the cashier ugly and proceeded to throw his utensils and food around and slinging the orders that were ready onto the counter out to the cashier. Both cashiers were visibly embarrassed. We tried to reassure them it wasn't their fault and that we just had an emergency and had to leave. We waited 10 more minutes and though he worked on half our order he proceeded to work on other orders instead of ours. He would not answer the cashiers and they would have to go around to counter to check on things. We finally had to leave. We did not receive a refund nor our food. We were very careful to be nothing but accommodating and courteous to all of the staff. It's such a shame. read more

This restaurant in San Antonio is undoubtedly a favorite of ours, and once again, it lived up to our expectations. We decided to sit at the bar, and our experience started with a prompt greeting and a glass of water. Our drink choices were a Jameson old fashioned and the local draft, Highwheel Betty. The beer was served perfectly chilled, and the old fashioned was delicious, although we missed the maraschino cherries that are typically included. It would be great since they had those readily available. For our meal, we opted for appetizers, choosing the chicken liver and pork belly. Both were delicious, but we wished there were more than just two pieces of liver, especially considering it's an inexpensive item at the grocery store and they're charging quite a bit, comparatively to a main meal item. Similarly, we hoped for a larger portion of pork belly for an appetizer; what we received felt more like an amuse-bouche. This was mentioned on previous posts as well. On a positive note, the small salad was generously portioned and exceptionally fresh and tasty. In summary, it was a wonderful evening, but we did wish for more substantial servings. read more

My husband and I were looking for a late-night bite and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the Paloma Roja, but unfortunately, it was way too strong for me to enjoy. For his entrée, my husband went with the Tequila Grilled Gulf Shrimp and was pretty disappointed. The dish came with about six shrimp and two small pieces of cornbread--not exactly what he was expecting. I had the Loretta Burger and asked for no arugula, but it still came with it. Not a big deal, but when it came to the burger itself, there was nothing special about it--it just tasted like a basic burger. Honestly, the best part of the meal was probably the fries. They are now having brunch which has southern charm vibes. The scramble was small but good, had a decent amount of crawfish but the corn in the grits is not it. The fried green tomatoes were good, small again but the sauce on top was yummy. The Market sandwich was good, a good combination of flavor but the potatoes weren't anything special.
