We ordered the truffle frites, braised short ribs, New York strip steak, and finished with the tres leches cake. All were delicious. A special thank you to the chef for accommodating our daughter's nut allergy by preparing an Alfredo pasta instead of the pistachio pesto pasta - it was greatly appreciated! Really nice location inside the Intercontinental Hotel off Pecan. I went for brunch this past weekend. The food was superb. I ordered the quiche Lorraine tart with a green salad. I also added a fruit cup which had a wide variety of seasonal fruits. The service was a little slow and somewhat inattentive. Not to the point of frustration but enough to be inconvenient. More like 3.5 stars. Was staying at the Intercontinental and ate dinner and a breakfast here. Dinner- we ordered the pear cocktail, truffle fries, cavatappi pesto pasta, eggplant canneloni and the tiramisu. Out of this, the cocktail ($18) and the pesto pasta ($30) were excellent. The eggplant dish was vegan so literally was just eggplant rolled in a lot of tomato. Avoid. Tiramisu was bitter and not good at all. Service was terribly slow. Took very long to get our food out and there were only about 3 tables full. Breakfast-better than our dinner experience. Husband got the omelet which came with potatoes and toast and I got the avo toast. Both tasted excellent. Mind you, the place is not cheap and hence I expected better. read more

Hidden gem! Wow! I never knew there was such a sincerely cool place in SA that I've driven by so many times. Amazing. Service was absolutely outstanding as our drinks were kept full and never empty. We were checked on through our entire visit. The food came out timely and was soooo absolutely rich in flavor and fresh. Amazing amazingly delicious food. Very very good. The mimosas were great! And extremely fresh! Tasted like the oj just fell from an orange tree! The vibes and ambiance were purely magical and the jazz! Sooo tasty! I was not expecting the bone marrow beef tartare starter to be the worst thing (and it was delicious), but everything else just kept raising the bar! The burrata landed me in an enchanted forest. The harmony of fresh arugula, sweet peaches, rich cheese, and tangy citrus was delectable. The sea bass was mellow and crisp-- classy, even. Seaweed bits really elevated it further. The tenderloin lived up to its name. It was meaty, melty perfection. The only gripe was that service could get slow. We ordered a sorbet, which took 3 tries because they kept running out of flavors. But they gave us extra on the house for the wait, so no complaints! This was the only restaurant that I tried during my stay at IHG. Although the food is on the $$$ end (because it's an upscale spot), the quality was great! Shout out to James for stopping by and sparking great conversation. Luis and Gabi earned a 5/5 for being so kind and attentive. I never ran out of water or had to call them for anything. (Breakfast review only) INTERIOR/AMBIANCE: Comfortable, clean, spacious with lots of seating. SERVICE: Excellent. Servers were friendly and filled our coffee cups frequently. Food was also prepared quickly. FOOD: We ate at Cavalier for breakfast 3 times during our stay, and most of the dishes were delicious. The menu included a good variety of food as well; savory, sweet, healthier, small bites. Our favorite dishes were the pecan waffle, huevos rancheros (very nicely presented too), and chorizo breakfast burrito. We also tried the steel cut oatmeal with fruits which was just fine (included a small plate of sugar & pecans but more would be nice, just a matter of preference). Our least favorite dish was the brioche French toast, which was unusually dense and heavy. Note that the menu does change over the weekend, primarily to include some alcoholic beverages. Cavalier serves elevated food in an intimate, upscale room within a downtown business traveler's hotel. The InterContinental Hotel has had a major glow up and now has a sleek look with a smoky/amber/crystal/brass pallette. The dining room at Cavalier features a cluster of round booths around a pillar; seated there, we enjoyed a bubble of intimacy and conversation. On the burrata salad, the crispy prosciutto was a highlight. We enjoyed our tender steaks with their accompaniments (mashed potatoes, fries, broccolini, etc.). The sautéed mushrooms offered a variety of forms and a rich, savory taste. The cocktail menu includes mocktails flavored with Seedlip mixers. It appears that word has not yet gotten out about how good the food is at Cavalier. Couples looking for a new date night experience owe it to themselves to make a reservation. Validated valet parking is a nice perk, and there is River Walk access nearby. read more

Ordered the salmon on a Saturday night and found a full long hair in it. I alerted the server and a floor supervisor came over (no manager available). Instead of taking ownership, he asked what I wanted them to do. A replacement was offered, but it took long enough that my dining companion finished his meal and we had to leave for a scheduled show at the Tobin, so I never got to eat. Despite this, we were initially given a bill charging full price. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told again that none was available and was offered only half off, framed as a favor because the dish had been served. Hotel guest dropping by for a late supper. Did not make resy ahead of time as availability was wide open as of earlier that afternoon. Upon checking in around 9pm, was told nothing was available for rest of evening even though there were a large number of tables visibly vacant. No add'l explanation provided, other than we could wait 25-30 min and see if anyone no shows. Maybe they were short-staffed that night? It was already late, so ate nearby instead and returned to hotel to see almost all of the same open tables were still empty (they were still seating a party at closing time). Loved the ambiance and the fun and variety in the lunch menu. If I could rate it 3.5 I would. I loved the ribeye sandwich but my daughter had the brisket sandwich. The brisket just did not speak or feel like Texas brisket. The fries were cooked perfectly and served nice and hot. The lunch special price was good especially for downtown. I also appreciated them having valet parking available. One of the reasons I rated it four instead of three was I provided them feedback that the brisket was not what I expected. My friend and I checked out Cavalier for lunch and really enjoyed their "Express Lunch Special", which included soup, salad or sandwich, beverage, and a cookie. We started out with tortilla soup, which resembled more of a tomato soup with corn, but was seasoned well and very tasty. Next, I had a healthy and delicious citrus salad (endives, frisse, citrus segments, avocado, orange vinaigrette). I am usually not a fan of red velvet anything, but the red velvet cookie served with the express lunch was so good! Our friendly server brought out everything quickly and with a smile. This is a perfect lunch for those on the go or taking their lunch break from the office. I would like to return to try some cocktails and other dishes. Another bonus is that the restaurant is located inside the InterContinental Hotel on SA River Walk and they have free valet parking for restaurant guests. Came to celebrate a friends birthday for what we thought was a really nice restaurant, and was met with some snarky comments by the waiter. I don't remember the gentleman name, but he definitely needs an attitude check for what he told my friend. The comment was somewhere along the lines of "We can't do that, This isn't Chili's." I probably would've gotten better service and better tasting food, If I were at Chili's . The food presentation is nice, but honestly, the food has almost little to no actual taste to it. I got a pesto pasta and honestly it tasted like Nothing, and neither did the chicken that came with it as well. My foodie friends and I decided to try one of the newest downtown upscale restaurants, Cavalier, located inside the Intercontinental hotel. Please note that parking can be an issue due to the downtown construction, but Cavalier will validate your parking if you use the hotel valet. Much appreciated! We arrive on time for our reservation and are seated promptly. After looking over the menu, which has a definite French flare to it, and decide to start off with some focaccia bread, oysters Rockefeller, Caesar salad and a glass of pinot noir for me. The focaccia was divine and didn't last long. The Caesar salad was their take on the classic and they did a good job. They plated in a very colorful way. The oysters are next and are also super flavorful. I can't recall the topping they add but it made it pop with flavor. The pinot noir was also very good. For my main course I go with the braised short ribs with broccolini and truffle fries. The short ribs were tasty and very tender. No knife was needed as a fork easily cut through the meat. The protein sat on top of some mashed potatoes that just soaked up all the brown gravy. The broccolini was a nice side but I really preferred the truffle fries. Very tasty and crunchy. Lastly, I made room for the Hibiscus Pavlova desert. You could tell it took some skill to make this dish. It was very flavorful. If I could give zero stars for service, I would. Came here for brunch on Saturday, Aug. 30, and the experience was ruined by our server, Leopoldo. First off, shoutout to Yasmin at the host stand--she was kind and welcoming. But when we sat down, the table was still messy. I asked for it to be cleaned, and instead of just taking care of it, Leopoldo asked if we wanted to move. We didn't want to move--we liked the spot we were seated in. His energy shifted right there: attitude on full display. When he finally "cleaned" the table, he used what looked like a dirty towel. Then he plopped our silverware down directly on a still-wet, yucky table--even after I clearly asked him to hand it to me. I had to grab each piece out of his hand while he side-eyed me, then he did the same to my friend like we hadn't just asked him not to. He even made a slick little comment about "I just cleaned the table," as if that excused anything. From there, his whole vibe was stank--short, dismissive, and rude the entire time. I don't pay good money to deal with servers who act like guests are a burden. A simple request for a clean table and basic courtesy shouldn't come with attitude. IHG should really reevaluate how they train and hire their staff at Cavalier. Yasmin was the only bright spot; Leopoldo needs a crash course in hospitality--or another job entirely. read more

Went for dinner the service was superb! The ambiance was nice; however a little smokey since the kitchen is open. The food was amazing, scrumptious. To start we had the Wagyu Steak tartare and that was so delicious that I forgot to get an image of it. We had the Wagyu short ribs and again so flavorful and tender. We also had the beef tenderloin and that tenderloin was perfectly cooked and seasoned. To end the night we had the mango tart Tatin and the award winner chocolate St. Honore. I come to San Antonio each December, everyone left yesterday and I decided to stay an extra day for some alone time. I was not planning to eat here initially. I was walking along the riverwalk and decided to stop for a lunch. The staff is very friendly, I had omelet for breakfast so did not want eggs again for lunch. They checked with the kitchen and were able to accommodate the salmon on the menu, which was absolutely delicious. I ordered the summer rain on the menu.
