I really wanted to love Haywire but it was unfortunately a disappointing experience. I was visiting SATX and saw the Cowgirl Dinner advertised heavily on social media, so I was eager to try it and the $30 price made it even more intriguing. Unfortunately it fell flat of expectations and the photos and our very sweet server and hostesses were the only redeeming parts. Starting with the ambience, upon arriving to our reservation for 8:30, we ended up waiting another 30 minutes until we were seated after many other parties. I understand that things can get busy with walk-ins but it was a bit frustrating to stand waiting until the limited lobby seating opened up for us to then wait another 20 minutes for a table we reserved to finally open up. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing and the chandeliers and beautiful booth seating plus the partially-open kitchen setup is nice to look at however, and I can see why this spot is appealing as a girls night out dinner spot. The hostesses were very sweet and our server was kind as well, which made the experience better. However, the Cowgirl Dinner was disappointing and I would have preferred to pay double for a decent meal. The steak was very dry and bland, and I don't know that it was seasoned at all. The salad was also somehow dry and felt stale, and the fries were fine but nothing extraordinary. We also got a mac & cheese on the side to split which was also oddly bland and watery. I desperately wanted to enjoy this meal but it really just fell flat. I would recommend Texas Roadhouse before I would probably go here again unfortunately, and it may just be the Cowgirl Dinner specifically which is not the best, since I have not been here before. You CANNOT beat their amazing March deal which scores you a 5 oz steak with roasted garlic butter, tallow fries, side classic caesar salad and a dirty martini or lemon drop martini! Just WOW! All that for $30! Everything that was there was delicious and their caesar salad was something else! Much different flavor combinations than other places that I've had elsewhere! Came for "dinner" during lunch hour and it was just so perfect as it wasn't super busy that we basically had a giant table just for ourselves! Including my wild toddler who decided to not eat except for fries, ha! Our server was amazing and was on par with making sure we had everything we needed! My wife and I went on a date here and got steaks. I will say the steak was perfectly cooked as I wanted it, and had a great sear on the outside and medium on the inside. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of a few issues. The first issue is that my wife and I had a reservation and still had to wait close to 30 minutes to be seated. I'd understand maybe 10 minutes or less, but a 30 minute wait with a reservation felt too long. The other reason I did not give it a 5 star is because of the fries. They were sitting ready to be taken to the customers in the kitchen, and we got some that tasted like they were sitting for too long and were stale and not that great since they were not fresh. The third issue was that we bought a bottle of wine, a bubbly one, and it was hot, so the first pour was not that great. But once it was in the ice, it tasted much better. I Love the ambiance! It's airy and spacious and the vibe is alive and classy, but comfortable. I wouldn't go here in shorts and a T-shirt or flip flops. It's a care what you wear kinda place!! I made reservations at Haywire for the first time to celebrate my birthday. I was looking for somewhere new to try and after a little searching I landed on Haywire--and I'm so glad I did. First off, this place is a total showstopper. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere just grabs you. It feels upscale and polished but still has that warm Texas charm. The design, the vibe, everything about it makes it feel like a special place. We had an amazing experience, and the sweet young lady who took care of us all night was fantastic. Every recommendation she gave us was spot on. We started with drinks and their meat and cheese board. My husband ordered the Haywire Old Fashioned (Texas pour) and said it was one of the best he's had in a long time--he ended up ordering three, so that should tell you everything you need to know. I don't drink alcohol, so I was excited to see they had mocktails on the menu--and not just as an afterthought. I ordered the Mojito Refresher and wow... it was incredibly refreshing and easily one of the most enjoyable mocktails I've had anywhere. For dinner my husband ordered the Cowboy Ribeye with shrimp and tallow fries. It came out perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and looked absolutely mouthwatering. I ordered the redfish and I'm so glad I did. It was light, fresh, and beautifully prepared--honestly the kind of dish you keep thinking about after the meal is over. I really wish we had a place as nice and upscale as Haywire on the northeast side of San Antonio, but this spot was absolutely worth dealing with the traffic. If you plan to go, definitely make reservations. We went on a Tuesday and by 6 PM the place was filling up fast with people waiting out the door. Update: I came back the next day to meet another niece of mine and this time I ordered the fish tacos and they did disappoint (cry emoji here). There was something missing.... I asked for lemon to see if it helped but no that didn't satisfy my taste buds. I think I'll stick to the steak and the Chicken BLT sandwich Haywire never disappoints--I love this place! My niece was in town, my boys were starving ( like always) and I was ready for some really good food--not fast food, but something worth slowing down and enjoying. Haywire was the perfect excuse and If you read my other reviews I'm not a big fan of long waits so we came at the perfect time; LUNCH TIME! Thankfully it wasn't busy, so we were seated right away. This was an amazing and very laid back, restful lunch with friends. The place is in the La Cantera mall. So, that is not what I knew, so, fair warning. We went there the 2 weeks before Christmas, so parking was a bear, but only because we didnt want to pay for valet. The wine list was extensive. I got a lovely glass of Moscato and hubby got a glass of Riesling. Quite tasty and great with our food! The cocktails, quite generous and tasty. The food came at a great pace! Went here on the weekend. It was my first time. There were lots of parking spaces out front. I didn't have to wait long for a very spacious seat inside. Service was good, and the food was delicious. I didn't get any drinks, but I enjoyed it so much that I went back the next day. I did make a reservation online, but it wasn't busy when I arrived both times. It did pick up after. Went here for a date night on Saturday, arrived around 5pm and only had to wait about 10-15 minutes. The decor is amazing, there is always something new to look at. I love the candlelit tables. The food was amazing! I got the redfish (not pictured) sooo tender, well seasoned, and the shrimp & lump crab on top were so perfect. The asparagus with the lemon butter sauce was delicious. I had my birthday dinner at Haywire and it was my husband and my first time here. Upon entering I was blown away by the amount of beautiful chandeliers hanging in the main dining area. Haywire is a fairly new hot spot with all the upscale cowboy/western vibes; from beautiful and tasteful "Cowboy" artwork and aesthetic throughout the restaurant, and most of the staff wearing cowboy hats! Very pleasant experience! What we ordered: pork belly bites and fried green tomatoes (to start), pork ribs and rib eye steak for our main entrees. Our sides: Brussels sprouts, green beans, Mac & cheese, and chimichurri rice. Everything was absolutely delicious. I personally would have preferred the Brussels and fried green tomatoes cooked a little longer with less of a crunch but they were still very flavorful. Was told about this place from a reliable restaurant goer, and decided to pop in while on short getaway. Walking up, Haywire gives premium restaurant vibes. Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised that the inside met the outside's expectation. I arrived a little early for my reservation, but the awesome hostesses were able to get us a table. It's a good thing I made that reservation (6:30 on a Friday), because the restaurant filled up pretty quickly. We were seated at a table upstairs (upstairs is superior for date nights), given a couple of menus, and our waitress took our drink order soon after. Everything is sourced locally and made to order. I ended up getting an old fashioned (one of the best I've had) to go with my New York Strip and brussel sprouts. The wife had a spicy margarita and a chicken dish. I got my steak the only reasonable way (mid rare). The seasoning and taste for both were phenomenal. You could taste the care in the food. We ended up getting a second round of drinks (the bourbon specialty drink was great). Maybe we caught them on a really good day, but we should've gotten meals to go! Haywire is one of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio. It is a rustic yet elegant steakhouse with comfy, country fare and upscale decor. We have been for both brunch and dinner. The food and drinks have been superb and cooked to order. Steaks have been cooked perfectly, sides are delectable, and the Redfish is delightful. The Brussels Sprouts are a favorite and don't skip the desserts. Try their signature home cake that tastes much like a spice cake. Drinks are wonderful as well. A friend of ours tried the smoked whiskey and loved it. Service has always been impeccable. Servers are helpful and attentive and seem to care about making sure you have a great experience. Very disappointed in the visit my friends and I had on August 20th. My friend made a reservation in advance for 7:30 pm for a group of us. Once we arrived, the host gave us an initial wait just because she said people are still seated at our table but she assured us they would be done shortly. 20 minutes go by and we go to the host and she says they're still seated and we will still have to wait. At this point we are hungry and annoyed but what else can we do. We didn't get seated till 8:20 pm...almost an hour after an our reserved time. Ridiculous and poor planning on their part. Service was alright - not bad not great. I ordered the medium rare steak, it was tough and the side of fries were cold. My wife got the ribs and I got the ribeye and both were prepared perfectly. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, great decor, nice layout with plenty of seating, and very friendly staff, I loved the cowboy theme it really felt like a high end steakhouse. I can't say I really liked the fried green tomatoes cause they were hard and sweet, maybe they would have been better if it was cooked longer I'd say the same for the Brussels sprouts as well. One thing that felt off was when I made the reservations it asked if I had and request and so I wrote if there was any birthday decorations or anything that could be added to our table but I guess they don't do anything like that. I also mentioned to our waiter we were thinking of a dessert for her birthday celebration and he insisted that they already got it taken care of so we didn't get to choose from the menu which made me think it's was on the house as a gift or something since we didn't get to choose what she wanted, well when the bill came I saw that they charged me for the dessert which was fine but if that was the case we would have liked the option to choose what dessert we wanted. Cowgirl dinner was very disappointing. :( We went on a Thursday for early dinner/ girls night. 3 of us total. For the cowgirl dinner, it comes with a small steak, tallow fries, a small Caesar salad and either a martini or lemon drop. (this sounds like a perfect girl dinner for $30)! But unfortunately for us, the bar was completely out of martini glasses, it took 45 minutes for my martini to come, and when it did, it was in a short drinking glass. I had to ask for a martini glass and was told they could try to bring me one, but they are selling too many cowgirl dinners and that might not make it happen. I was very disappointed with this but understood. Fortunately, for me, they found a glass for me but not my friends. (Again this was not the biggest deal just disappointed) My biggest issue was when the food came, it was cold, and there was no garlic butter on our steaks. Not to mention, One of the Caesar salads had no dressing. And a side of mac & cheese we ordered, came out 25 minutes after our food arrived. Our server ended up telling us they just could not support (as a restaurant) the amount of reservations they were taking for service. We felt the advertisement of the "girl dinner" was overdone on social media for what is actually produced. The atmosphere is gorgeous, decorated in western glamorous decor complete with heavy wood rustic furniture and a ceiling full of chandeliers. The bar and wine wall are photo worthy as well and all of the servers are dressed in western wear. They have numerous seating areas and ample space but reservations are recommended for busy times. The chocolate cake is to die for but you might need help to finish it after a meal! The craft drinks are amazing, beautifully created at an amazingly crafted bar. Once we walked in the hostess wasn't at the door so we weren't immediately geared however it only took a minute or two but they were welcoming with a smile. What an experience! My little sis and I met friends here for happy hour to catch up and enjoy some good food. Haywire sure didn't disappoint- from the eye-catching space to the vibe to the food and service, everything was great. Everybody ordered from the HH menu- Sis and I both ordered cheeseburger sliders and split a grilled chicken Cobb salad. The sliders were nothing but the truth. The beef was grilled to perfection, with basic condiments being all that was needed. The Cobb was enormous, definitely sized for two people. Our friends also had a double order of sliders and split a Farmhouse Bowl, which was a nice mix of greens and grains. It looked delicious, definitely worth checking out on another visit. Over the course of three days we ate at this location twice...lunch and dinner. My general impression is it needs a lot of work ... attention to detail that is currently lacking. A very good location, plenty of space, large bar, decor is a very rich ranch feel. The service was a mix. The lunch waitress was not very attentive. Others had to recognize the water bottle was empty and other little things. She checked as our food was delivered and did not come back to check on us. The dinner waitress' timing was much better. We did not want for anything. The hostess was having a difficult time juggling people coming in the door...the front waiting area is awkward. We asked for a booth and got seated at a table. Then they figured it out and moved us. Most important was a steak house that was out of three steaks on their menu. How does that even happen? Lack of planning? The food was a mix. - the Cobb salad was tasty but drenched in salad dressing. - loved the queso with picadillo. - Chicken fried chicken had a thick, crispy batter. The gravy was good. The green beans were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. - The bar drinks were unique .. front porch swing was a combo of rudy red vodka, aperol, juices and agave. - The steaks were not cooked correctly nor were they consistent. Medium rare is not 90% red meat. The seasoning was too salty. I had to send the first steak back as it was missing the garlic. - The mash potatoes were inconsistent between the two meals. Lunch was creamy, seasoned well, and buttery. Dinner was chunky, little seasoning or butter. - The grilled shrimp was amazing!!! So 2 meals for $210 (before tips). Seems a little bit upscale location with a huge bar that seats 25. They have a space for private events as well as an upstairs so plenty of seating which also includes outdoor seating. Bartender was very nice and upbeat. Dedicated to get it right. She had a young man that had food allergy issues and she went the extra to make sure the staff knew about it in the back. I ordered a Jamison and Ginger since only 4 beers on tap. Haywire has a happy hour special with food included sliders, elk tacos, and chips/queso. I ordered the sliders to start. Went through those quickly(2 sliders) so I ordered another 2 and a side of tallow fries. As always I ask would I come back? I had wanted to try their pecan pie after I found out about it. It has a cinnamon roll crust according to the description. I was disappointed with it. The pecan pie was big and it came with vanilla ice cream. The pecan pie wasn't worth the $12.95 they charged for it in my opinion. The pecans on top were very hard and not easy to cut into. The middle part was lacking in flavor. The cinnamon roll crust was the most disappointing part of it all the crust tasted no different than a normal pecan pie crust. I ate it at the bar and the service was just okay. It took longer to expected to get the pecan pie. I do not recommend ordering the pecan pie dessert when you eat there. It's high priced and overrated. The bread pudding was delicious. I had it on a different occasion and it was amazing. Get that instead of the pecan pie. read more

My team was in town for a work trip and staying near the Rim and La Cantera. When we asked for a good option for dinner around there, Haywire came highly recommended. We made our reservation online, which was super easy, and it didn't give us a hard time about having a larger party (7-10). The restaurant is what others have referred to as "cowboy chic"; mix of ranch and class and upscale ambience. They provide a farm to table menu, partnering with local farmers, ranchers, and growers. The menu had a good variety of options for all levels of hungry. They even offer a Cowboy Feast, if you are looking for massive quantities of food, are a competitive eater in training, or sharing with others. Our server Andres took really good care of us and was such a good sport with our group, who were a little stir crazy from being cooped up in meetings for two days straight. He also gave us solid recommendations for food and drinks. Everyone was incredibly satisfied with their choices. The Old Fashioned and Espresso Martinis especially received rave reviews. I got the BBQ ribs and they literally did fall off the bone. The mac and cheese side was delightful; nice crispy breadcrumbs on top. We also did a queso blanco and gulf coast ceviche for appetizers and those did not disappoint either. The restaurant offers several private or large dining spaces for meetings or parties, so I can see with the service + food + dining options why it is so popular in the area. Will likely be returning. It's nice to see a new restaurant in La Cantera so we paid it a visit this week! Beautiful interior with a lot of space and a Western theme. Began with drinks - they seem to have a extensive wine selection which is great, some cocktails but none that appealed to me and I wish they had a better beer selection - lots of pedestrian beers, would love a few IPAs or local Texas beers. Food was great and very reasonably priced too! The Burrata was my favorite with fresh tomatoes and a really fantastic pesto!! Ceviche was good, loved the onions rings too! Nice and crispy. This was my first time at Haywire, and even though I only stopped in for a quick meal, I definitely plan on coming back for the full experience. I just grabbed a quick burger, my server was kind, attentive, and made sure everything came out quickly, which I really appreciated. I ordered the burger, and while it had a great, juicy flavor and was nicely simple, the bacon was a miss for me it was extremely hard, which made it tough to bite into the burger properly. I also got a side of fries, which I found to be a bit on the harder side, but still enjoyable overall. I'd also like to add that the restaurant was beautiful gave a great combination of country western and upscale at the same time. Even with a few small dislikes, I enjoyed my short visit and the atmosphere. I'm excited to come back soon and try the full menu! read more

I'm pretty well traveled and have had a great meal or two but my experience at HayWire was truly exceptional. First, Ethan our server extraordinaire was superior in every way. He didn't skip a beat. Jason -the bartender can make a fantastic cocktail and my fave was the Prosecco bluebonnet. The Chef deserves a HUGE shout out as well because the steak was cooked to perfection. I took the Chef's recommendation and it was DELICIOUS. Check this place out! There are nothing but great vibes and fabulous decor. Good times and great eats!! read more

Monthly bookclub meeting place for brunch. The atmosphere is very western and welcoming. The bathrooms were very rustic looking, clean and stocked. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I was not uber impressed with the food however. The blueberry biscuits were tasty. The Benedict was a little disappointing. The eggs were overcooked and the menu said Tabasco hollandaise but it had no spicy at all. Also disappointed that for the blueberry biscuits we had to ask for the lemon glaze as they didn't have it when they came out. I'm not sure if this may be a return spot for me but maybe I will try again and go for dinner read more
