We live in the neighborhood and have been three times for lunch. Adair is a welcomed addition. The choices were wholesome -- comfort food, but fresh and with healthy options. Interesting choices on the menu but not trying to be everything to everybody. We particularly like the chicken shawarma. The atmosphere is attractive. The service for lunch is countertop with a server delivering the food - works just fine. Our experiences have all been positive. The area has a couple of other reasonable price point casual venues, like the Hayden and Cappycinnos - all three are different. Stopped by on a whim. Ordered the Chicken Salad. It was very tasty. I was very pleased to get greens, not the annoying white ribs that plague most salads. The Salad was full of chicken feta, avocado, and strawberries. The staff was great, from register to quick service. The decor was casual, but upscale. The prices were great and still have a Military discount. That makes me return more quickly, knowing they support our Military members. I went for dinner about 3 weeks after they opened. They don't take reservations, and it was super busy. We were informed of a 30-40min wait but was only 20m tops. Nice start. We got fast attention from our server and initial drink order was reasonably timed given the busy dinner activity. We ordered the Texas Trio to start. Salsa, queso, and guacamole. The salsa wasn't really salsa, more like a weird comino sauce. The cheese was baren synthetic gooey stuff. The guacamole wasn't guacamole. It was just smashed avocado (and not evenly with big chunks remaining). No cilantro. No lime. No salt. No tomatoes. No chiles. Pathetic and shameful. We also had the hummus with mushrooms appetizer. It was $15. That makes the same of more than most of their entrees, which is odd because both ingredients are super inexpensive. Hummus was fine. Mushrooms mediocre. Needed some seasoning. The gemelli pasta was the only decent dish. It also needed some salt but was tasty except for the overpowering amount of basil and/or fennel. We also had fried bird bucket. I loooove fried chicken. The breading wasn't craggly or crispy. The skin also wasn't thoroughly cooked to be crispy which is a must for fried chicken. And again, lacked seasoning. The primary theme for everything was lack of seasoning. Not sure this restaurant even owns any salt or pepper in the kitchen. Service was attentitive in the beginnning followed by longs gaps of absence waiting for her to return and ask for something all the way up to the check. Not worth a visit IMO. read more

Great casual brunch spot in SA! Came here with a group of friends, ordered at the counter, the sat ourselves at a booth. Service was nice, no complaints. I got the avocado toast and the piece of bread was pretty small for the amount of avocado we were given. I appreciate the large amount of toppings though! The chorizo was delicious that I added on. My friends got the crispy chicken breakfast sandwich and enjoyed it. Another friend got a fruit bowl and didn't like it because the fruit bowl lacked berries and was cantaloupe-heavy which is a valid complaint. First time at Adair. I enjoyed the aesthetic. Very modern and open. Happy hour is 3-6pm. 1/2 off all starters. 1/2 glasses of wine, and & $10 martinis. I had the beets and the meatball off the HH menu for dinner. We had the hummus appetizer and it was really good! Just a note that the Roasted beets are served chilled. We also had the chicken salad that's on the starter menu. It's big enough to be your meal. Off the dinner menu the table had the pecan crusted chicken and the burger. Both were good. For dessert we had the Apple bread pudding, the lemon icebox cake, and the cheesecake. All were delicious! My favorite was the lemon icebox cake! It did have a smaller menu at dinner. And the music was a tad bit loud. We could have a regular conversation we had to elevate our voices. If a manager reads this consider lowering the music at dinner. 09 Mar 2026 We returned to try dinner. There is table service for dinner. Our server was very enthusiastic in describing the drink menu. Alas, we just want iced tea. A chilled bottle of water is brought for the table. The description of the food items didn't quite jibe with the on-line menu. My pecan-crusted chicken was described on-line as served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The restaurant menu states it is served with a green bean salad. When I asked what is this salad, the server said people get confused thinking they're getting a salad. You are not. There are minced pieces of I guess green beans sprinkled on top of the chicken. There is a sauce underneath the chicken which wasn't bad. The chicken. I was expecting real pieces of chicken. What you get is a chicken breaded filet that I bet is bought by the frozen bagful. There are also several pecan halves on the plate. The husband ordered the 12 oz hanging beef steak, served with onion butter. A very small dollop, not melted, still hard. Since neither dish came with sides, we ordered whipped sweet potatoes and cheesy mashed potatoes. Nothing to get excited about. I didn't taste any cheese in the cheesy mashed potatoes. They were very dry. I mentioned this towards the end of dinner and the server said yes, he had noticed they were dry, but that they are usually very good. Hmmm. Well, we got this far and so I ordered a dessert - lemon lime icebox pie. This wasn't bad, served with whipped cream. We had iced tea (served in small glasses) and never got a refill, even after asking. Other than that, service was good. Great idea but they still need time to get the kinks ironed out. We came a week after opening. So there was a line. We ordered at the counter and soon after the food came out. There was little to no silver wear available on any of the tables. We had to go a few over to get some off another table. Half way through my first turkey BLT half I realized there was no bacon at all. There is no one to check up on you or to see if you need anything else as you dine .So telling Waite staff was almost impossible. They did mess up our order a bit as well. Every one was dressed pretty causal I couldn't tell where the manager was. I really wish we got the attention of someone to help fix our experience. Adair Kitchen is a new addition to San Antonio, with its flagship location in Houston. It has taken over the former Jim's building and completely transformed the space with beautiful minimalist décor. When you walk in, you're greeted and place your order at the front counter, then receive a number for your table. We started out with 2 lattes, and we both ordered another because it was so good. We ordered the two eggs with hash brown casserole and a biscuit. The eggs were cooked perfectly, but the hash brown casserole, which is more like a latke, was a bit underwhelming in flavor. The buttermilk biscuit was decent but quite dense rather than light and fluffy. The strawberry compote, however, was fresh and very good. My husband ordered the chicken honey butter biscuit. The chicken itself was crunchy and cooked well, but it lacked seasoning. The biscuit was also extremely thick, so much so that he ended up removing one half just to eat it. With a good brine and a more flavorful batter, the chicken could really shine. We also ordered a side of fruit, and a side of grits. The grits had a nice little kick from jalapeños, but like the rest of the meal they were very lightly seasoned. I'm someone who almost never adds salt to food, but a little seasoning is important to bring out the natural flavors. A full bar serves up craft cocktails like a lavender infused French 75. The food came out quickly and everything was delicious. The ambiance of Adair, feels great. They have elevated the space but kept the familiar diner layout. The outdoor patio is a nice touch and the wall blocks any noise off of Broadway. We both enjoyed our entrees. My wife really liked the salmon and quinoa dish and I enjoyed the pork chop, the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. This place is in an old Jim's restaurant. Came for lunch menu. Had the kitchen burger with no lettuce tomato or onion but the burger came with all of it still, I also added bacon which they forgot to put on. The burger was standard, nothing special about it. I also had the tortilla soup which was a little too tomato heavy for me. The fries were standard restaurant fries but they at least added salt and pepper. I would give them another shot knowing they just opened and hopefully working out the kinks. They also have a different dinner menu I would come and try. My family and I have been eagerly awaiting a no-seed oil restaurant in SA for a long time, and are so glad Adair came into town! It's an easy "yes" for every member in the family when we're deciding on where to eat. The food is good and easy, and I love happy hour to try their appetizers and the staple kitchen burger. The kids love their chicken tenders and sweet potato fries! They have done an incredible job remodeling the old Jim's. I love the design and all of the natural light from the big windows. Alright loves let's talk about this new restaurant in town. It been remodeled from the old Jim's it use to be. It not only gives but serves chic diner vibes with an old fashion that will make you stay for a while. It's a clean, modern looking restaurant. The food is def great portion sized for the price. You go in and order at their counter. Then they give you a number and you sit where you like. They do have people bussing around and running food out. So if you have some cash leave a bit on the table for them. They have an open kitchen concept so you can see the chefs in the back cooking up everyone's meal. Might I say they did a fantastic job today during the busy afternoon storm. So beautiful to see their magic in full effect. Chefs have a thankless job. They make it look so easy. We were excited to try the new Adair Kitchen, but the experience was really disappointing. I went with my son and daughter. I ordered the chicken, my daughter ordered the pork chop, and my son ordered the steak. As they were serving my kids their meals, the server told me they were out of chicken and asked what I wanted instead. I ordered the steak and was told it would come out quickly. My kids finished their entire meals and my food still hadn't arrived. I finally asked them to box it up to go because I was tired of waiting and watching everyone else eat. Then the bill came -- and they had both the chicken (which they didn't have) and the steak that I had to take home on it. At the very least, they should have taken the steak off the bill, since I never even got to eat it there. No one offered anything while I waited or even offered refills for drinks or another glass of wine. Really disappointing service, especially for a new restaurant trying to establish itself in San Antonio. read more

I ordered the pancakes and they were pretty much average and much smaller than the plate they came on. They were topped with some old looking sliced strawberries that I had to remove and set aside because they were so dried out and sad looking. These pancakes didn't taste bad but I was expecting something special and they were pretty average. The biggest problem was that me and my friend came together but we paid separately at the front desk so we both received two separate table numbers and that means my pancakes came about 20 minutes earlier than his food. So I ate nearly half of my plate while he simply sat there and watched. This is a real problem. Also there was barely any syrup given to me. read more

Atmosphere is still Jim's (which is ok) and patio looks like a cheap extension into the parking made out of center block and no greenery to soften the look. Service was ok, went thru a conversation about a wine that they carried ordered it, waitress said " ima white wine lover too, I'll be right back it it", returns and presented a open bottle of red. After checking their menu before going I was disappointed that the restaurant in San Antonio doesn't have everything that is on the website. I think there were only 5 dinners on the menu. Dinner review here in progress. Really not worth the money. No condiments on the tables. Water and tea served in low cut whiskey glasses. These run out very fast. Food is very plain and ordinary. Potatoes dry and flavorless. Service is good at dinner. The butter onion compote for the meat is a joke. It is loud inside. Most of the staff milling around as if not well trained in procedures. No obvious manager. No item removed from bill even if complained about being sub-par. Excuse for running out of the better deserts. The other deserts quite ordinary. No "Wows" or "Wonderfuls" here. Remarkably poor service for a brand experienced in the food business. Despite not being too busy (no wait) service was very slow and frankly there are much better options in the neighborhood, I asked for a desert to go ( Bread Pudding, presumably prepared in advance) after our meal, this took over 35 min to arrive. This is after I inquired with the server twice as to the status and walked up to the counter myself to inquire. The Manager finally brought the to go order out but offered nothing but apologies ! Are these people for real ! This is totally unacceptable service and they do not even seem to understand this ! Really disappointed with my experience here. The rice that came with my meal was NOT COOKED--hard as a rock and basically inedible. That alone was frustrating, but the rest of the food didn't make up for it. Everything tasted bland and lacked seasoning. What really threw me off was the enchiladas--the green sauce was sweet, which just didn't work at all and felt completely off from what you'd expect. Overall, between the poor execution and the flavor profile, it was not an enjoyable meal. They also sent home a side of rice with us to make up for serving us a pile of hard, green rice and when we got home we opened it, noticing it was bright green(different from the previous serving) and when we put it in a bowl it looked like they covered it green food coloring, it was strange. Not sure if the rice is supposed to cilantro rice but they called it green rice and was actually disgusting. Hoping this was just early growing pains, but based on this visit, I wouldn't go back anytime soon. The other orders at our table include the burger and the review was that P Terrys has an excellent burger and the diner would rather eat a burger there over Adair so not recommending the burger either. Lastly, the almond chicken was sweet so the diner recommended not ordering that unless you are in the mood for a plate of sweet food. Disappointing visit. My wife and 3 friends did lunch yesterday - wonderful food - this restaurants does not provide waitresses during breakfast and lunch -only dinner - so, be ready to get your own water and drinks as only counter service is offered. Becareful, because if everyone leaves you table ar once someone will just sit at your table as they thought it was available - then another problem wxists as in our case he said hw was moving - then management had to get involved. We went to try out Adairs on Friday evening in San Antonio. They just opened in my neighborhood and so my wife and I gave it a try. The menu had only 6 or 7 entrees and I chose the Flank Steak. Big mistake- it was tough, so tough I only had one-third of it. Our wait person asked how it was and I told her. She looked at my plate said I am sorry, left and came back with the bill. Attractive interior overhaul. Rather loud and music volume was set for the young hip crowd - not for people who would like to talk to each other over a pleasant meal. Service was good - But I really dislike being greeted with "do you guys have a reservation". Our arrival was at 6:10 PM on Wednesday 25 March 2026. Seated - server approaches with another greeting of "you guys". The selections on the menu are not the same as online. Server said they were offering reduced number of items from those shown online - which is the Houston menu. Nowhere mentioned online is the San Antonio menu limited. Orders taken - I selected the "pecan crusted baked chicken*, citrus glaze, mashed potatoes, green beans"; my dining friend got the cheeseburger with french fries and a diet Coke. The San Antonio menu from which we ordered did indicate the chicken would be accompanied with mashed sweet potatoes. What was served was really a pureé. Tasted fine - was the warmest item on the plate, which is not saying much. Beans came in second for warmth and lastly the chicken - not more than room temperature. The green beans were properly cooked - but ate only 2 of them. It should have been called Garlic with some bacon (I did not try the bacon) and green beans as an afterthought to carry the garlic. Now for the chicken - pounded to a thin piece it was as dry as a South Texas pasture and just as palatable. The citrus glaze was sweet and out of place - a weird concoction. My friend said his hamburger was warm and pretty good. He messed around with it eating about 75% of it and 15% of the fries. He offered for me to taste the fries - I did. They did not seem to have just come from the fryer as they too were only warm. Edible, but nothing to look forward to eating again. My meal was so terrible that I ate only 2 green beans (garlic bomb), three bites of the chicken that the Tabasco sauce could not resurrect and three bites of the sweet potato pureé. The waiter did check immediately following delivery to table by another person and then again after we had been eating. Upon asking "how is everything" I told him - in short form - what is written above. He asked if I wanted another order of something else from the menu. I declined, and told him I would like to take the chicken home for my dog. He returned with a plastic container with the chicken. At the end of my friend's meal I requested separate checks. He told me my "meal had been taken care of - there was no charge". The best thing I had there was the water. Yes - I did tip the waiter - $5.00 - more than a 25% tip should I have been charged for my meal. Why 2 stars, I don't know, maybe 1 star would have been too harsh, but it was certainly not above 2 stars. So the stars are for an attractive interior and good service - zero stars for the food. I live about 1 1/2 miles from Adair Kitchen - sure would have liked it to have been a place I would return to on a regular basis. read more

We just had a delicious breakfast at the new Adair Kitchen! Our food arrived promptly and was hot and fresh. I had a tasty biscuit sandwich with bacon and a side fruit salad. My husband had a yummy omelette with spinach, goat cheese and plenty of prosciutto! He also got tasty refined black beans and a homemade biscuit with fresh jam and whipped butter. Our cappuccinos were wonderful! The prices were fair and the service warm and friendly. Sat at the counter with a nice young couple we met in line! All in all - a delightful experience.
