I had a very upsetting experience during my visit. While I was in the restroom, an employee named Erin was vaping inside. The restroom was so smoky it was hard to see, and I'm not even sure whether it was a vape or something stronger. I didn't make an issue of it at the time. My girlfriend and I went into the restroom together just to speed things up, and Erin--who was in there the whole time--heard our private conversation. A short time later, we were kicked out for supposedly doing "inappropriate stuff." When I returned to get her name for a complaint, the employee at the front, AJ, told me Erin claimed we were doing "drugs," which is completely untrue. Erin was the only person smoking in that restroom. AJ refused to give me her name even though staff are required to provide that information when a customer wants to file a complaint. He was rude, dismissive, and even cussed at me and my friend while I tried to explain that we were simply in the restroom together--something I've seen other women do without issue. It felt like we were singled out. Erin and AJ were extremely unprofessional. This was one of the most disrespectful experiences I've ever had, and it felt like we were targeted because we're a same-sex couple, and they tried to justify saying half their staff is gay as well but still wasn't taking accountability about them wrongly accusing me and my girlfriend read more

I don't think I've ever had a bad experience at this bar. This is my favorite dive bar, probably only dive bar, in my neighborhood. The drinks are low cost and makes it easy on the wallet to order a double. During the day the vibe is super chill and you can mostly have the whole jukebox to yourself. Two friends and I stopped in, searching for drinks and an outdoor patio to smoke a Cuban. On 1604 and Horizon Hill, parking is spare and cramped. This is a pretty basic place, no frills, a bit shopworn. VERY friendly bartender, but def not a graduate of mixology school, and her supply of liquors was a bit lacking: She was unable to prepare an Old Fashioned, as they do not stock bourbon/whiskey/bitters...really? I asked for a Beefeater gin and tonic, and it seems she didn't know that gin. I settled for a vodka tonic. But, if one is searching for inexpensive beers, and is indifferent to the physicals of the establishment, then this dive bar is the place for you. What would you do if you found your car towed after parking in front of a sign that says "smoke shop parking only 10 am - 12 am"? The manager of the shop at this particular time came to find me at DEOL bar to tell me that I couldn't park there and he would have me towed. I was confused (as I'm assuming most ppl would be) because according to the sign the towing enforcement was over at midnight. imagine my surprise at this. So I walked out and realized ALL OF THE SIGNS there say the same thing. So I entered the shop to make it clear that if my car was towed that I would be fighting it according what the sign said. I also made it clear that i was not mad at him because he just works there, that I understood he was following ridiculous policies that didn't make sense. He kept saying how the "sign place" was at fault for making the signs wrong and how management wouldn't pay to fix them. I don't understand how that's the fault of people parking there following the rules of the THREE signs!! How does this relate to DEOL you might ask??? This place was bumpin' when I was there. It's another good dive bar to add to your list. Not only do they have great beats and karaoke on certain nights, they also have that awesome plywood/sawdust smell from the recently extended plywood bar. It really adds to the atmosphere y'all. Domestic beer is $1.50 all day, eray day, imports/craft are $2, and I *think* the well drinks are $2.50, but don't quote me on that last one. As the name (Deol Bar and *GRILL*) implies, yes, they do have a kitchen. The patio is decent too. It was late the night I was there, and although they were busy, it wasn't crazy and it wasn't hard to get a drink. Yes, there are a lot of college kids in this place, but there's also a good mix of adults hanging out just in case a serious decision needs to be made. Just keep in mind that this is a dive bar. Cool place, nice clean bar. Stopped by early on a Saturday night to just have a few beers. Prices are good , bartenders were attentive however they had karaoke on a Saturday night. Same people singing over and over got annoying really fast. Would've stayed for awhile had it been for the karaoke on a Saturday. I would first like to mention that I waited a good 20 min before I was ever acknowledged. I know what you're thinking-why didn't you leave?- and I would have left, had it not been for a friend I was waiting for. One bartender working tonight (black blouse, red headband, and dark hair with a ponytail) seemed to completely ignore any customer requesting a drink other than the one she was flirting with. The other bartender was outside smoking whilst the rest of us were frustrated. However, she was more apologetic and seemed as if she cared. With this being said, this is the perfect bar for college students who do not know/care about what customer service is. Went on a Tuesday night. $2 ANY BEER. Not just your mass produced beer, but your craft beer as well. Well hellooo - a bar after a my own liver. We got there at about 8 and there were about 15 people in this place, all from what it appeared to be from UTSA. Yup. College bar. The staff was friendly and fun. Enter 9 o'clock hour. Scores of early 20 somethings/college students just appeared out of nowhere and immediately proceed to the shots. Not one round, but at least 2. Yeah. This was going to start get pretty crazy in such a tight spot. I don't mind the crazyness. Hell, I'll lead the charge but when they show up and their B.O. smells like comino mixed with paprika, then yeah, San Anto tenemos un pinche problema. Wow! I had quite an experience at this new bar! I came here with a friend at around 10pm on a WEEKnight, and it was packed. We were carded at the entrance by the bouncer, who was remarkably unpleasant...like we were putting a damper on his night by showing up haha... but anyway... Walked up to the bar, but were unable to get a drink because I am a woman and the female bartender was more interested in hanging out with a guy at the other end of the bar. Despite that potentially inaccurate assumption, we ultimately couldn't get any service for like 10 minutes. We finally found an empty booth and sat down, and about 5 minutes later a waitress came and asked us what we wanted. The music was incredibly loud (i mean, LOUD, we're both in our mid 20's and couldn't hear each other from across the table), so we moved to the outside patio where the environment took the brunt of the sound waves. The patio is nice and has plenty of seating available. There were multiple groups of people outside, and of course, a certain amount of creeps! While I had taken a phone call, an oddly behaving man began to slowly weave his way in our direction... and before he reached us, our waitress brought our orders of Mozzarella Sticks and Fried Pickles. They looked pretty awesome. However, this random guy has now sat down across from us. He has not said a word to either of us, and sat there for what seemed like a full minute before I was able to end my phone call. After doing so, he grabbed a mozzarella stick, dipped it in marinara sauce, shoved the whole thing in his cheek...got up, and walked away. We were in shock! Ha! Never in either of our experiences has someone been so weird, obnoxious, and rude like this! While I found the event to be hilarious, my friend was dumbstruck and furious. Deol did not offer an apology or any kind of goodwill in response to the actions of their patron. The bartender and waitress just kind of gawked and laughed at what had happened. Coming into this dive on a slow day, not expecting it to be packed of course. The aesthetics are pretty neat; UFC fights and big screens with pool tables in the background. A nice vibe, though they had a lone jukebox playing while there was nobody in their DJ booth. A collage of drinks displayed the back wall but was littered with an abundance of tiny clear plastic cups either by or on the glasses. The bar was ok, the service was pretty decent. Good place to sit and have a drink but, perhaps next time I come here I would change my mind for better or worse, whenever that is. Deol is the definition of a local dive bar. 75 cent wells and margaritas on Tuesdays and great prices every other day of the week, hence great place to pregame.
