The ambience. I was the victim of an indecent assault in the parking lot. Two of the karaoke jockeys urged me to report the crime, which I did. I had been singing at this place for a year and considered the staff to be my friends. I was stopped at the door the next time I went to the place and learned from the owner, Debbie Cook, that I was banned for calling the police, because when SAPD shows up, customers leave. She said that I had "taken legal action against (her)." I then called SAPD immediately and asked if they would send an officer to explain to her that, while business owners may ban anyone for no reason, she was wrong about my "taking legal action" against anyone but the perpetrator, and that law enforcement encourages reporting such violations. SAPD was happy to do so, after which I believe the owner represented to my friends on staff that I had called the police on her--even though Quinn and Javier, both employees on staff, had urged me to do so. I was one of their most loyal customers, but even I was not safe there and was revictimized for doing the right thing. I saw the pervert who hurt me having a drink at the owner's table earlier that night--bought for him by someone in her party. Don't know whether she knows him or not. But until she banned me, I thought she was my friend, too. Her place had always felt safe, and I loved singing there. FYI if anyone in your family or party is assaulted in that parking lot, (which she does not own), you're on your own. If you want to continue to be allowed to enjoy the place and its amenities, don't report the crime. read more

This place is a keeper y'all! They have been around for 15 years now and 15 years in my book = perfection. Why have I never heard of this place before??? We went on a Saturday night (I think, lol) and it just happened to be their 15th anniversary party. Beer and drinks were cheap, and I heard a rumor that the drinks were pretty stiff. They had Karaoke (of which I did not partake) and a side area with 3 or 4 pool tables. There were 8-10 of us (I might have been seeing double, so don't quote me on that) and we were able to all sit together. It did get busier as the night wore on, but it was not crowded at all. It's a dive bar and I respect it for that, the only thing keeping them from five stars as a dive bar is that they only had two bartenders and only one bar back that occasionally showed up. This meant we were standing in line for refills for a bit longer than we wanted. They really were busy. read more

I love dive bars and karaoke and this place has both. Hidden Tavern has karaoke 6 nights a week starting at 10pm. The Monday night host, Dave, is my favorite. He is very friendly and has a wide variety of songs to choose from. If he doesn't have it he'll get it for you. Quinn on Wednesday and Saturday nights is also tops. They have a huge dance floor and stage so you can get your rockstar on. There is also pool tables and darts if karaoke isn't your thing. The bartenders here are awesome and know how to pour a drink. Especially Jess and Maggie. Also a shout out to the bar security, Ray. Best of all the drinks are cheap and they don't skimp on the booze. read more

Pretty bland design. Might've been a Tex-Mex restaurant once. It's one big room with a bar in the back and a karaoke stage in front. The location is pretty "hidden" since it looks closed. The crowd is laid back, even on the weekends. It's okay for a visit or two. I prefer "Dad's Karaoke" which has more of a "scene" with the crowd and vibe. 22 read more

Very sad time last night. I am a frequenting customer and I decided this one time to take one of my girlfriends out to my "drinking spot". We got there at 1am, ordered our drinks and received the WORST customer service of my life. Not going to lie, most of the time it seems like the bartenders were hired from a "wanted ad" on craigslist but this particular girl just took the cake. She was asian, wore heavy eyeliner and a Tshirt that said PINK on it. Rolled her eyes everytime my friend ordered a drink because she was busy talking to the same group of people. at 1:45 she pointed at her from over the bar with a disgusted face and said "You better finish that, were closing at 2" im sure there is a much better way to say that and a lot nicer. My friend, playfully goes, "aw we just got here." Smile on her face, bartender scoffs and goes, "Not my problem you got here too late." Seriously what is that girls problem!? My friend stood up at one point to fix her dress, again the bartender yells "Hey you cant take that outside, you have to finish that here now." My friend replies, still pleasantly despite this girls attitude, "I know I will." SHE ROLLS HER EYES and says "Or whatever, just act like im stupid" Im at this point inclined to agree that you did in fact hire a stupid bartender. These are just a couple of aggressive comments that your bartender shot my friends way unprovoked. And now im sad to say I will NOT be returning to your establishment. I will NOT recommend this place to anyone, in fact I will be avidly turning people away from it. I honestly have no idea what that girls problem with my friend was, and this is not a drunk post. I was the Designated Driver and didnt drink anything, so I know what im talking about. All in all, you hire terrible bartenders that drive away customers because of there own personal issues. You just lost a lot of business within an hour, congrats. PS: I want the manager to contact me. I want to know why you hire someone like that. read more

It's never a bad night for karaoke. The drinks are always decent and fair priced. The karaoke djs do not play favorites. Ever time I go, even on a weekend, I get to at least 2 or 3 songs. This place is fun fun fun!!! Staff is excellent, especially the Saturday and Sunday happy hour bartender Tori...now that girl can make an awesome michallada, Bloody Mary and shots!! Always have had a blast there and they always have free food on Sunday!! If you're not looking closely, you'll never notice this place. Really. The name is quite fitting. I came here to celebrate a coworker's upcoming nuptials. I had a lot of fun here. People make interesting song choices after a few beers. Since the drinks are reasonably priced you won't have any problems convincing people to have a few. Or many. Its called "hidden" for a reason! I had never been to a true dive bar before last night but i really liked this place. We didn't sing any karaoke, but we had a lot of fun watching old people - okay, like 30s and above - sing stuff really off tune and get their groove on. Watching old men dancing with younger women never gets old... They also had pool tables which was awesome. The drinks: Strong. Bar staff: Mediocre. Didn't know how to make two of the listed "special" drinks so they wiped 'em off the board at around 12-12:30. Kinda bummed about that. Other than that, I had no problems with this place! Hidden Tavern is, well, hidden. I lived just down the street from it for several years before venturing in a few months ago. I'm going to be honest - I go for the karaoke. Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights, starting around 10pm, it's my own little slice of paradise. There are a few patrons I see every time I go that are karaoke rock stars: one guy, maybe named Mike, who is an older guy and reminds me of a cleaned-up and shaven Kenny Rodgers. Second guy is a tall drink of water, a black cowboy complete with boots, hat, and bolo tie, who can sing a MEAN George Strait and sits in the same spot at the bar each time. The place reminds me of Cheers - it seems like everyone knew everyone. Even shorn Kenny Rodgers came up to me and mentioned that it had been a while since I'd been there to sing! The crowd is small, so it's a nice bar to go hang out in. It's a little smoky, which I'm not in love with, but the bar makes up for it with (from what I remember) $9 pitchers of Miller Lite and $12 pitchers of DosXX. The bartenders can sometimes be fewer than necessary and sometimes it does take a bit to get a beer (at least on a Friday and Saturday night), but the place is laid-back enough that it's not that big of a deal. Hopefully, this place stays relatively hidden, as it's nice knowing I can show up, find a table, and enjoy myself for the evening. read more

Fantastic dive bar! Just what you would expect: young, old, pretty, not so pretty, swinger couple with date in tow, karaoke that is constantly malfunctioning. Alison and I stumbled across this place toward the end of a date night after having visited some other bars in the general area of town. This one took the prize and we wish we would've just started out here to begin with. Cheap drinks, TV's with sports and SNL. And, we were there on a Saturday, the aforementioned karaoke. We stopped in the bar .It's kind of set up strange. One big room and the bar is up against the back wall. I had a hard time staying here, I don't like my back to the door. It does have tables and chairs that you can move around.When we walked in people were smoking right at front door. I had to walk through smoke to get into the bar. It is centrally located.which is very convenient if you're picking up food or going shopping and just need a break. I did not stay long because of my own personal preferences. I'll start off by saying that the owner, Debbie, is very nice. You can tell that she really loves her customers. I love Hidden Tavern. This is my go to bar. I hope the owner reads the next paragraph...... I was at HT Saturday, May 6th, and there were a bunch of bikers there which is not the norm. During the night a very large biker and his " female companion, to put it nicely" and I guess they were feeling frisky as they went into the women's restroom and stayed in the bathroom for 10, maybe 15 minutes. During which no other woman could use the restroom. What I really have a problem with is that NONE OF THE STAFF DID ANYTHING while large biker guy and friend were bumping uglies in the women's bathroom. Female customers actually had to go in and kick them out so they would be safe. One of them actually stood guard outside the bathroom just to make sure that her friend remained safe. That is outrageous!!!!!!!! Debbie needs to hold her staff accountable. Maybe hire more staff, especially an additional bouncer. And the bartenders are very friendly, the bouncer is cool and knows how to sing and Eddie is the best music guy there. Much better than the other music people especially the lady that worked this past Monday, March 21st. She had the volume so high it vibrated through your body it made it impossible to have a conversation with anyone even if you are screaming into their ear. She also had a bunch of her friends there and gave them priority on song rotation. You would have to wait for her friends to sing two or three times before you were able to sing one song. Another thing is the bathrooms. Gross. And extremely small. Doors don't lock so you get walked in on constantly. The other night I was there and had to leave the bar and go home to use my bathroom due to one of the toilets had a large brown smear on the seat. Also I know that the owner has a smoking section outside in this little side patio area. Was nice for a while but now all the smokers sit or stand right in front of the door so you have to walk through a huge cloud of smoke just to get in and out of the bar. Very annoying especially when the front door is always open so all the smoke comes right back into the bar. I also don't understand why people are allowed to smoke those stupid ecigs and those vapor things inside the bar. Even the bartenders smoke behind the bar while serving customers. I don't know why the owner feels it's okay too subject her customers to the secondhand smoke of these non cigarettes. Especially when people don't know how inhaling the secondhand smoke from these non cigarettes will affect the human body. It's probably similar to secondhand smoke from cigarettes. That is not taking care of your customers. read more

Hidden Tavern is a little dive bar tucked away in a small shopping strip. Seems to be a place that is visited by regulars. Nothing fancy here. They have a standard beer list consisting of beers brewed by the bigger breweries. They have a juke box with an interesting selection of music, pool tables, and darts.
