My husband and I waited for this bar to reopen. We were long time customers of this establishment, and then we're sad when they closed, but once we found out it was open again, we decided to try it again. I tell you what, as soon as we walked in there was no more smelling of urine and feces when you walk in. I was ecstatic about that. The place is really changed for the better. The have slot machines and they serve you shots from a shot glass not a paper cup. It's much decent and cleaner. The staff is awesome. Come by and check them out. read more

Later on I met Carlos, Adele brother who ran the bar on Saturday for awhile. I met Adele during the 80's and went to the bar up until 2009 until I move to Houston. Texas T! Black Gold. One of the cheapest downtown bars! $2 Lone Star Tall Boys every day, all day! This is a total dive bar, right next door to an incredibly historic hat shop. This ain't no bar for tourists, it's a locals joint. It's not some place where you get flashy drinks in illuminated take-home glassware, like on the Riverwalk. Nope- it's cheap drinks served cold. The a/c is always blasting in this place, and with a cold beer- it's a perfect place to dodge the heat. The service is always fast and friendly. The patrons are incredibly nice- they even have hawkers come in and try to sell snacks! Woot! The place does have a smell to it. But bury your nose in your beer and you won't notice! It's not exactly clean up in here. But, the cheap beers and friendly service make up for any hygienic shortcomings. Parking is challenging around here, with only street parking, or private pay lots. read more

San Antonio, Texas: I give this place five stars for "dive bars". I loved it! I got a tall can of Lone Star for $2. What?! Yup two bucks and you can't beat that. This place isn't trying to be anything other than what it is and in my book it's doing a pretty good job at it. Yes, the cat on the pool table was kinda creepy- in a cool sort of way and I did decide to wait and not take the trip down the hall to the men's room, but only because I was in a bit of a hurry. Otherwise I could drink all night in this joint. I'm not big on corporate drink spots, so this place definitely can work for me. Here's a tip, wear your old boots and just enjoy this place for what it is. I'll for sure come back hear next time I'm in town. read more

Found this place while driving around downtown looking for a bar that's open on Christmas Day. True dive bar, but very charming as dive bars go. Pool tables, darts, big screen TV, and full service, not just beer. And omg, somebody was playing Irish folk music on the jukebox...amazing!!! Domestic beer is $2.00, so prices are reasonable. Don't know about mixed drinks prices, fancy myself as more of a beer drinker. Anyway, great little hole in the wall in the downtown area. My only complaint is that there was no lock on the ladies room door, and no way to lock the single stall, so basically anybody could just barge in while you are taking care of business. read more

I was sold by the cat. Was highly disappointed when I walked in at 2:30 in the afternoon and it wasn't still sitting on the pool table as it was in that photo posted just 30 minutes prior. The bar itself is undoubtedly the crappiest I've ever been to but the prices weren't too shabby. The patrons all looked like hobos... which could have actually been other yelpers trying to pre-game for a yelp event 2 blocks away, as I was, also looking like a hobo. The bar lady didn't acknowledge me when I walked in, didn't ask what I wanted when I parked myself at the bar and actually went off to have a skype session with her Japanese lover. I wasn't even sure she was the bartender, I had to ask the person with the most teeth who served the drinks and she pointed me her way. There are some pool tables, a dart game machine that may not work, beer, hard licker, a large television playing nascar re-runs and some chairs. This is exactly what I imagine when I think "dive bar". Way to fit the mold! read more

Definitely give a pass on this place. Their draft beer had something seriously wrong with it as the zeigenboch was sour. I returned it and opted for a bottle of shiner instead for $3... a bit steep for this place. The owner was more preoccupied with sitting and chatting with 2 other workers / patrons at the time and didn't seem to interested in serving me another. There was a strong putrid smell at the bar with something that appeared to be puke under one of the stools and altho the owner / tender was told about it, she did nothing to remedy the situation. There is also a cat wandering around the place which could at least earn its keep by keeping the swarms of fruit flies at bay. Do not confuse this place with the Texan II, same building just one street over, as they are both dives, but T2 actually cleans even though it is run down. read more

Hole in the wall dive bar with odd smell, non working keg, and tiny toilet without locking door, yet somehow we still went back two nights in a row while in SA. What can I say, they had tall cold Lone Star beer cheep, a working jukebox, pool tables, and no hipsters! If you scare easily his is not the place for you. read more
