I am new to San Antonio. My girlfriend and I went here because it's close to our house and we loved this place. When we first walked in, I feel like I was getting some weird looks because of my Boston Red Sox baseball cap. she and I played some pool and then the karaoke was getting going so we went by the dance floor and watched all of the amazing people that did karaoke that night every single one of them were so good. We went on the night the Longhorns came back and beat Ohio State. We had such a great time. We danced a little bit and that was amazing. We would definitely return to this place. It is so cool. The karaoke people felt like a little family and that may the experience that much better for us. I've seen people complain about the parking, but we would gladly park a mile away just to go back to this place. read more

Wandered back into San Antonio and I have to say I missed this place. Roland is that classic bartender who doesn't put up with any nonsense but will make you feel at home. As he always does. Haven't been there in three years and still remembers my drinking habits. Am I to predictable? Yeah probably. Still that proper dive, you'll see quite a few regulars that just come in to chill and hang out on the weekdays, and the weekends are always a celebration! Also one of the few places where you get everyone from all walks of life, from young and old. You'll always leave with a decent conversation or connection every time I've visited . Common tradition is to sign a dollar bill and staple it to the wall. read more

Cane to watch Football Thursday night. The music was so loud everyone was shouting to be heard. The funny thing was everyone was watching the game and 2 guys playing pool. I asked the bartender why they don't have the game sound on since everyone is watching the game. He said that's how the owner wants it. I stopped in for a beer on a Sunday afternoon because it's been on my list forever and it was a pleasant surprise. Immediately, as you enter, you're transported to a different world. Outside, a bright sunny late summer day. Inside, you're greeted with a dim, almost dark, atmosphere. The windows are tinted. The bar's patrons are congregated along the spacious bar, yelling at the TV as their favorite team scores a touchdown. It's a bit insetting at first. The bar seems to have a lot of regulars as they all seem to know one another and the friendly bartender. The kind of familiarity one is accustomed to at a local favorite. Serna's is a hole in the way, dicey, sportsbar. There are two pool tables, two dart machines, (unfortunately) the bro-a-meter (ie the electronic punching bag that brings out the dbag in every bro), and many televisions. It's a *great* place to watch the game. The bar is dedecked with signed one dollar bills and there is other kitschy stuff decorating the walls. Instead of being ostentatious, it fits the character of the bar. I like it. The parking is a bit limited and there is construction on Potranco at the moment so you might have to find parking across the street if it's busy. I didn't get a chance to hang out outside but I understand there's a big outdoor area that hosts local bands. I'll be sure to come back and check it out. As I said, the bartender on duty today is friendly. She makes a decent michelada and is attentive. What more do you need? If you live over here on the far west side and are looking for a cool spot, I'd recommend checking out Serna's. The people seem friendly, the prices are reasonable, and they have live music. Finally found a good dive on the west side. This is a good spot to watch a game. They have cheap drinks, cool staff, a great outdoor area, and poker. The only downside is the awful parking situation. In front you have to park 3 cars deep or park across the busy road with no crosswalk, bridge, stop light, or anything. Oh, the bathrooms are super gross too, but it's definitely not the worst I've seen. read more

Nice little spot on the NW side of SA. The inside bar has you covered on liquor and also a good selection of beers. There's an outdoor bar with smaller liquor selection and some beers as well. My wife and I went there on a Friday night and saw one of the local bands and I will say for an outside setup the sound was great. As others have stated parking isn't the best and if you showed up ealry I would suggest not parking near the build as you'll have to ask others to move to get out. Also there's no food or bar snacks, there was a taco truck there until midnight, so be prepared to have something delivered or bring with you. We go occasionally because it's a dive bar closer to home. It gets the job done on a regular night out where we don't want to get too crazy. They usually have cheap drink specials. We sit outside. Of the several times we have been, we enjoyed one night with a live band out in the back. We really love sitting outside with giant Jenga. Another night they had karaoke but the line to sing was too long to make the cut, a good hour before close. read more

He provides customer focused attention that says this is not only a place to belong, but to work as well. One of my favorite spots to go and have a drink . They have a live band on the weekends on an out door stage. It is a little small inside not much room but love coming to see my friends play. I had my Birthday party here once and the Manager and owner went out of their way to make me happy. I really enjoyed myself and had a great time. They have only two pool tables and the restrooms are small but they have great drink specials. If you want to see some great bands play and have a great time Sernas Backyard is the place to be. Went with a bunch of friends just to hang out on a Saturday night. The place was perfectly divey on the inside, we enjoyed the drink specials and soon were contemplating our next move, but just then we discovered the outside. Once we did, there was no leaving because of the great dj they had. Plenty of space, good lighting, and the kid took requests! You can see the projector screen outside - perfect for game day. Came in with gentlemen who where considering a new venue to which they might become regular patrons of. After building multiple tabs North of $50, each individual in our party was insulted by both staff and other customers to the point that they felt physically unsafe at said location.. The Bartender was fantastic, but ownership should seriously look into new management before before any prominent taste maker is allowed to review said establishment. For they would become so disappointed with there visit as to recommend that the business be given a wide birth. read more

This bar by far sucks the bartender tried to cut me off after a $9 tab which is 3 drinks I was there from 7-2 so clearly everyone I was with was mad at this situation but a couple people apparently said I wasn't right! The drinks are pretty decent and the bartenders are really friendly. They will hook you up if you are a regular so that is a huge plus for me. They sometimes have live band performing so it is a good place to hang out with friends after work. Besides the drinks there are pool tables and several arcade games so you will rarely find yourself feeling bored. The only reason why I can't give 5 stars is because their parking is horrible. During the weekend, you end up parking across the street and honestly, taking your chances of getting run over by incoming car is better than actually parking in front of their bar. read more

My wife and I always have a good time. It's one of those places with cheap prices and a good vibe. The crowd is filled with a broad variety of age groups. The music selection also shows a lot of variety as well. The staff is friendly and efficient; I have never had to wait more than 20 seconds to be asked for my drink order even when they are busy. This is a pretty chill neighborhood bar, has cheapish drinks, and a nice mix of people. It's fun to go during the week and play songs on their juke box. The parking situation is weird, but they've worked a way to use the lot across the street and there's a guy there watching cars to make sure they don't get messed with.
