This is my fav bar on N. St. Mary's as it has food, drinks, music and open space to chill inside or outside. It also has a lot of tvs to watch sports games, wrestling whatever you want to see and it's only bar on the strip that carries blueberry redbull so thank you. I've had drinks stronger at communion (church), spent a whopping $68...SIXTY EIGHT, for two rounds of shots. About 9 dollars a shot ? And didn't feel any alcohol whatsoever. If anything it sobered me up. Don't go unless you want to be charged 5 star bar prices for a 1 star bar. Ambience was terrible, no music really. read more

No. Security was horrendous. Service was bad. Ambiance was sub par. Will never be back. So rude when when walked in to when we left. Horrible experience!!! Do not recommend at all. Weird, had great times at the Slackers by North Star a while ago but had no clue the chain turned into a sexist establishment. Tried to head out to the one on St. Mary's with a group of friends and one male friend got turned away for wearing a black tank top. Mind you, it's August, 90 degrees out still and it wasn't riddled with holes or unkempt in any way. Was told it's not within dress code for men. We pointed out several women were wearing spaghetti strap tank tops and less then him to which the bouncer responded, "it's different for women". I'm sorry but Slackers is not the Ritz nor a high end bar. It's 2023, the middle of summer, and absurd to have double standards. We ended up taking our female friends button up, putting it on the male friend, and then getting in. Ridiculous. read more

This is a particularly cool bar full of tough looking dudes and the reason it is cool is because it is full of old 80's style video games and what could be better than that If there is one bar in San Antonio that I would hang out in, because of that and because also I like the neighbourhood, and because it has pretty sexy people in it, this would be the one and it would be to play these old video games from my childhood. I used to love this bar but as a service dog handler and a disabled individual I am more than disappointed at their policies. The staff are horribly uneducated about service animals, the bouncer stated that the manager has a rule that only dogs allowed to be carried are allowed inside which is not only a health code violation but direct discrimination and violation of the Americans with disabilities act. I hope this establishment can see this and educate themselves on service animals. That only task trained dogs for disabled handlers are permitted inside non pet friendly establishments. I didn't spend thousands of dollars and years of my life training my service dog to be denied entry out of pure ignorance. Do better. I have half a mind to report to the ADA and BBB but would rather give Slackers a chance to improve. read more

Retro video games! This bar is part of a chain of two other Slackers. They specialize in cheap drinks and games! This bar is smaller than the other locations, it's kind of a hole in the wall. But it's jam packed with old video games! When I went, I got to play some first person shooter game and a round of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! They have basketball, Ms. Pac-Man and plenty of other old games that will make you wanna keep pumping quarters into the machines all night! The video games all worked properly, and the controls were still firm- just like they were in the '80s. With the mix of sweat and alcohol, those joysticks can get icky, but someone seems to be maintaining these games! The service was fast, and the beer was cold! They're more than happy to make change for you too. My only complaint is that when I went, they didn't have nearly enough seating. However, if you're sitting in some chair, you're not playing any games, so maybe that's for the best! The place is relatively clean. Parking can be challenging here- it's located amid all kinds of other bars and the area can get hoppin' on a weekend night. It's a fun bar! When you're considering alternative forms of entertainment on the strip, paying a quarter for a video game is cheap! read more

As a frequent patron of the establishments on the St Mary's Strip, I was excited to give this new Slackers a chance. A friend and I recently went in for a quick drink on a Friday around 6 pm and it was hands down one of the worst experiences I've had in a bar, both on and off the strip. First, the customer service was TERRIBLE. There were only a handful of people in the bar but when I went up to order my second drink from the female bartender i literally had to wait 6 minutes (yes I began timing) for her to so much as acknowledge my presence. What was she doing during this time? Funny you should ask-she was busy talking about football and her kids with a male patron seated a few chairs away from where I was standing AND scrolling through Instagram on her cell phone. To make matters worse, when she finally got off her phone to take my order she poured my jack on the rocks with an extra side of bright pink lipstick marks on the glass (see attached photo). Fun fact, I wasn't wearing lipstick that day. Between the terrible service and the blatant lack of cleanliness, if I could give this place zero stars I would. As it is I'll never be returning and this makes me question ever returning to the slackers across from North Star. The strip can do better than this. read more

This may be more of a 4.5 star review, because the spot was not absolutely perfect, but for what I was looking for and what it delivered, it was more than expectations. I was in town just for a fun weekend (actually, literally, pulled San Antonio out of a hat to choose my weekend get away) and was up wondering around in Tobin Hill area on a suggestion from a friend. I had been to a good brunch spot and another quality bar before, but wanted to watch the Saints v Rams game in a more sports bar/dive atmosphere. And walking by Slacker's open door, I found what I was looking for. Inexpensive drinks, awesome bartender (sorry I didn't catch her name, but she brought snacks for everyone from the store, as they do not serve food, for the game), great choice of retro arcade games (especially their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game), and plenty of TVs. Obviously the game provided much entertainment as well, but the atmosphere really made it great. The .5 off is more for the fact they don't have ANY food (I didn't know they did not have a kitchen, so I did not bring food...but again the bartender was on the spot). I highly suggest Slackers (though I am a tourist) to any local (and tourist obviously) looking for a good spot to catch a game, or just chill with friends over inexpensive drinks, good bartenders, and great arcade games. read more

Always my favorite detour on my way home from work for couple drinks during happy hour. Plenty of drink specials and TVs to catch a game and relax. Need something refreshing try the cucumber mint shot. Arissa made sure we were having a good time and felt like we've known her forever.
