Everytime I've come here it's been a good experience and time to give them a shout out. I've been here in the evening for karaoke (which I highly recommend with the talent here). This was on a Wednesday and it was all walks of life and all types of music from classic to new. I walked in to an older gent who was killing it to some Al Green, "Let's Stay Together" and it was smooth as butter just like the vibes here. The night only got better from there. I tried it during the later afternoon and the vibe was even more chill. There were some regulars and we chit chatted about where we were all from and funny Cooteys stories. I played some music from my seat on TouchTunes and overall had a very relaxing time. Others were playing great jams too and wow I can't remember the last time I heard Beach Boys. But I'm here for it. Just a heads up.. This is one of those spots that charges a $20 holding credit card fee. But atleast they gave me a heads up instead of throwing it on me last minute and giving me the choice of cash. Bathrooms were very clean and well kempt. This place knows how to do fun right. read more

The very first thing I want to brag about is how CLEAN this place is. That restroom is never dirty!! The bartenders are so attentive and if there's any downtime they will walk around to your table and check on you so you don't have to walk back and forth to the bar (of course you absolutely still can though!) I've had a few things off their kitchen menu and so far everything has been great. Lemon pepper wings are yummy although I think they use store bought bottle ranch and I prefer homemade (to each their own). They've got a pool table and dart board... music is played from a jukebox to fit everyone's vibe! The karaoke nights are very entertaining (and loud lol). Highly recommend this place if you're searching for a chill new bar to make your new favorite spot! read more

It was my first time visiting Cootey's Tavern last night for Challenge trivia. We arrived early and the place was not busy and very unassuming. The bartenders/waitstaff were likely the most attentive I have experienced in San Antonio. The food (picadillo tacos and wings) was excellent and cooked to perfection. The bar was nearly at capacity for trivia and the host, Ross, was fantastic. I greatly enjoyed the lighting and ambience in the bar after the sun went down and appreciated all the vintage touches (i.e., tin roof over the main bar, old classic doors). Lastly, and very importantly, the men's room was immaculate. I will absolutely return to frequent this establishment. Update to review for the owner: Please have reliable set-up for trivia projection. A small request, but still five stars for this establishment. Blonde bartender the last few times I've been in does not check on her tables often to refill drinks nor take food orders. She ignores people from time to time until it's convenient for her and lets the brown hair bartender do her dirty work. Disappointing since the food is good, ambience is good but her service sucked. Male bartenders are always attentive and on point along with the brown haired bartender. Sad because I liked the vibe but cannot go back time after time to be ignored by her. read more

This place has been around for 40 years and has it's usual patrons that come for a drink in this strip mall that doesn't look like much business is there. The place is clean, bartenders are attentive, and they have a few beers on tap (including Guinness). There is a pool table, fake dartboards, lounge area by pool table and tables around the floor of the bar. My only thing was the night we went there, the jukebox played non-stop country music. Maybe that's your thing, but I was done after hearing that same sounding song. Glad to visit and check it out and will come back for their Friday Fish Fry in the future. read more

I'll say it once and I'll say it again. Food shouldn't be THIS GOOD at a bar. Keep in mind, it is being run by a new owner (who is always there working his butt off just as much as the bartenders and cooks). Reviews over a year ago shouldn't be valid anymore. When I tell you they have one of the best burgers in town, I can't stress it. Wings...on another level. Fries, just as great! They're specialty nights are also a must! Steaks on Thursdays and Fish Fridays. All home made from scratch! We just can't get enough. The service from the bartenders gives it the perfect touch. From sitting at the bar, singing along with karaoke to a game of pool or darts...it's always a good time!! read more

What a great little place! We discovered it looking for something to do while staying at the La Quinta Inn near the airport. It was an easy walk. They have a great happy hour- the nachos were delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were there on a Wednesday, so we played the free pub trivia and stayed for karaoke. Great customer service, staff has gone out out their way, repeatedly, to make sure we have everything we need. If it's food, which they have an excellent menu with good prices, or drinks. They make sure you are taken care of right. The neighborhood feel to it is welcoming to everyone. Sports on all TV, karaoke, and trivia, all with daily food and drink specials. Nice hole in the wall. Steak night sounded great until I sent mine back for a little extra time. It was never regrilled as I learned after the first bite...stone cold never touched. The gentleman bartender copped an attitude claiming he did me a favor by not charging me for the A1 steak sauce. Dude needs to get another job after he goes to ATTITUDE SCHOOL. Good place with a "Cheers" type of vibe. I just don't like when it gets so packed where it's elbow to elbow due to it being a smaller place, but that only happens when they have anniversaries or birthday parties. Fun Karaoke. read more

Stopped here to check out the Thursday night steak special. First time visitor. The inside is clean and cozy. Kinda gives off a Cheers feel. The steak and baked potato were very good. If you like gyoza/pot stickers, theirs are crispy with a nice drizzle on them. My daughter loved them. The chips and salsa were good. Salsa has a kick. And my bullet bourbon old fashioned was spot on! I will be going back. The only way it could possibly better is if it was about ten miles closer to my house! read more

Came here with friends to play live trivia. Trivia master was terrible. He had no idea what he was doing. Failed to calculate points correctly. Condescending with the patrons. Blamed it on computer problems but we all so him drinking throughout the game. There was only one bartender / server to tend to a half-full bar. Great service. The staff makes sure that your beers are full. I love the fact that they give out koozies to the patrons to keep their beers cold. How considerate! They offer karaoke, which can be a blessing, or a curse. The place is not exactly clean. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned since the Clinton administration, but what do you expect from a dive bar? It's part of the charm, I suppose. The drinks were relatively cheap. The patrons were friendly. There's plenty of places to sit, with lots of tables. I can't imagine who names their bar, "Cooty's" I was wondering if I should bring something to sit on, so I don't walk out with cooties. It wasn't that bad. The decor is fairly neat. They've got huge, old murals painted on the walls, which are picturesque. I think they had free popcorn, but I didn't sample it. read more

In from out of town, staying near the airport and decided to go have a drink. I prefer local places and generally am rewarded with a great experience. Not at Cootey's. I walked into the bar at 7:00pm on a Wednesday night (tonight, in fact). The bar was about 1/3 full and had 2 bartenders and 1 server. I sat at the bar and waited and waited and waited. No one even acknowledged me. It's not like they were busy or overwhelmed with a weekend crowd. I sat there so long that I was able to order my Uber and wait for it to pull up before leaving. I would chalk this up to it just being a "locals" place, but did not see any of the employees smile or even act like they were glad they had customers. They clearly take their customers for granted. As a matter of fact, I only saw 2 orders filled by the bartenders the entire time I was there. I Unberred to a place called Rookies Too Bar & Grill that I also pulled upon Yelp. They greeted me as soon as I walked in and had a cold beer in front of me in less than a minute. Don't know when I will be back in San Antonio, but I will not be going to Cootey's. On the other hand, Rookies Too rocks. read more

This place has pretty decent karaoke. It's typically a dude-bro/douche bar but on karaoke night it's a little cooler. This place is very smokey tho. There is lots of seating and tvs and they even have a cute lounge-y type corner with a few antique couches. what wiggles,jiggles, and makes you giggle? 1.50 jello shots! And they always have decent enough drink specials. I would avoid the liquor here. I am about 85% certain they water down the liquor. I have been a bartender/server so I'm not just some whiney douche. You will spend a lot of money on liquor here to catch a buzz so just stick with the beer. One exception: the long island ice tea is amazing! It's served in one of those huge mason jars, very southern old lady-ish. But it's pretty damn good and is worth the $12 price tag. And the service is better than 3 stars. Ever since one of my friends and I started coming here for our secret turbo happy hours back in '07, this place has been a favorite go-to for those times when you want to go have a drink but don't want to deal with crowds or the crappy people in those crowds. Every time I've gone, the place is relaxed, the drink waits are small, and people seem to be there to genuinely have a good time. I've seen everyone from traveling businessmen to college students in there, so it's usually a pretty varied crowd. So the basics: customer service is friendly and fast, bottled beers come in a coozie, and I really dig the random cowboy paintings on the back wall. There is an attached patio in the front, so you can continue your boozing if you want to pop outside for a smoke. My only gripe I've ever had was with the karaoke. A few years back, whoever had it went bargain bin on speakers or microphones because they sounded like crap. Nowadays, the sound seems better but the complaint is with the rotation itself. I saw a lot of repeat singers going up without new ones getting in on the rotation as much. Generally I've seen KJs set it up so new singers come in on the next rotation, instead of like 3 rotations later. And also, the KJ needs a better logo for his business. I think it said "Timovation" but I'm not sure. Just a friendly FYI to the guy: If people can't read your logo, they can't hire you! Otherwise, the KJ was friendly and seemed to have a pretty wide selection of songs. Oh, one other thing, if you're a beer snob, don't expect a wide selection of brews. They serve the standard American and import beers, but if you're looking for a Belgian trippel milk stout, you're probably going to be left wanting. read more

This bar is D- overall. The drinks are cheap but if you're not a regular don't expect to get anything quickly. I came here for a friend's birthday and every round of drinks took at least 20 mins to get. The bartender over charged me for my shots but didn't tell me till I was about to pay. Then she explained she ran out of the vodka they required so she put another kind in which made them more expensive. She 'fixed' the charge on my card. However here we are 3 days later and both charges have cleared. I went in with my receipts however I was instructed there's nothing that could be done. I had leave my # for the manager to call me back. Seems like I'll be lucky if this gets resolved. Save your money and time, just go to the lion and rose or mineshaft up the road. I started going to Cootey's about a year ago. It is just around the corner from where I work and is my favorite dive bar in San Antonio. It's never packed, but it is always filled with regulars. I just went again this past Monday (as is my custom) and the service was excellent as always. This is a comfortable place. There are couches as well as the standard tables/chairs and bar stools. It is smokey, but as I contribute quite a bit to that, it doesn't bother me. One of the best named bars in San Antonio. Cootey's! YEEHAW!! This place has a lot going on. It reminds me of the great bars of the Southside only not so trashy. It has a great outside smokers area with a big old fan blowing up your skirt. Don't worry, I wasn't looking. They remodeled the inside with shuffleboard, pool tables and karaoke. This place gets pretty hopping after work. Service can be kind of sketchy, depending on who is behind the bar and how quick they want to be. It's usually not very quick, by the way.
