Tuna Tartare

Amazing food always. Got to love a place that delivers at such a high level consistently. The service is always A+. Nice seating areas inside and a wonderful patio. Some of my favorites are the Spanish octopus, tuna tartare, bone marrow, roast chicken and the hanger steak. Restaurant Week is a great time to try. Reservations highly reccomended.

Bliss was a wonderful place to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday last weekend. Our table was ready upon arrival (with reservations, of course), and Matty, our server, was excellent. He knew the menu well, took great care of us, and truly made the evening feel special. My husband and I both ordered the ribeye, cooked Pittsburgh rare, and the kitchen absolutely delivered--perfectly crusted on the outside with a beautiful red center. The sides were good, but the beef was undeniably the star of the plate. We enjoyed wine and dessert and left genuinely impressed. It was a fantastic evening from start to finish.

I organized a group dinner here during restaurant week. There were 6 of us and we were all blown away by Bliss. The food was delicious! The service was great! The ambience was lovely! I'm excited to go back for more.

Amazing! We had the ultimate date night out at Bliss this evening. The front patio was quiet and relaxing, the service was exemplary and the food was spectacular Just look at the photos of their carpacchio and tuna tartar appetizers, followed up with a shrimp and grits with an out-of-this-world Cajun beurre blanc. And don't get me started on dessert. Had the most decadent chocolate heaven with miso caramel and black sesame taille. OmG, nirvana!!! Thanks for a wonderful evening.

My wife and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary; I knew Bliss had been on her radar for sometime. Going in the door, I should say I have a love/hate relationship with what I consider to be high dollar bougie/trendy restaurants. The experiences, for the most part, are often good, but I routinely leave feeling I overpaid for the amount of food received. We were seated promptly and there is absolutely no complaint about the service here. The "happy anniversary" printed on our menus was a nice touch. We were waited on consistently throughout our meal; the table was constantly bussed and cleared away. The ambiance is perfect for a date night...low lit and quiet. We shared the oyster sliders to start, which were fine. Entrees included the beef short ribs for me and scallops and mushroom risotto for her. Everything was very well done, beautifully presented, and the portions were a decent size...but I was still hungry when I was finished. My wife ate most of her meal, but began feeling a little queasy toward the end. So, I was on my own for dessert and was underwhelmed by the butter cake. I found it crumbly and dry, and did not care to finish it. My wife got sick on the way home and was not a happy camper the rest of our anniversary evening. Really wish this had turned out better...for her.

The staff was wonderful and so patient. We had many questions and they were quick while being able to be thorough on their responses. All the food was quite different in flavor with different textures we were not expecting. The bathrooms were clean, the cutlery was constantly being changed out. There was one dish that was completely inedible the whole table tried to eat it and it was just unpleasant so that is the reason for one less star. It went unnoticed by the staff and we didn't want to call out the dish or make a scene. Everything else was wonderful and we had a great time!

Visited this charming establishment for the first time. It's very cozy with limited seating, but feels warm and intimate. The service was friendly and quite impeccable. We visited for Culinaria. And it didn't disappoint. My appetizer was corn fritters and my friend had oyster sliders. Both were quite tasty with an added crunch and zesty flavor. My entrée was a braised short rib that was so tender. It fell off the bone. It was packed with flavor. My friend had a very tender and perfectly seasoned pork chop. Our dessert was the almond butter cake. That was absolutely simple. They are a beer and wine bar so we had sake and a firehouse blonde. Quite delicious. Can't wait to visit again.

This restaurant has a special place in my heart With private parking space, beautiful indoor and outdoor seating and excellent service, Bliss is one of my favorite restaurants for a romantic dinner in San Antonio. The menu is small but with enough options for an unforgettable dinner and their wine selection is extraordinary. I went for my dinner and it was an excellent birthday experience! Everyone loved their food and we got excellent service. You will never go wrong with Bliss restaurant, check out what we ordered!

This was our first stop for restaurant week, and it did not disappoint! From start to finish, the experience was wonderful. We started with corn fritters and hamachi tostadas, which were so tasty that I didn't even manage to get a photo before they were gone. I will definitely be back for the hamachi-- it was my favorite bite from the night. For entrees, we ordered a NY strip and short rib. The NY strip was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the short rib fell apart perfectly. So delicious! The desserts were also amazing, especially the butter cake. On top of three great courses, the service was outstanding as well. We ate outside and we were comfortable with the fans going and someone even came around offering bug spray which was a nice touch. Can't wait to eat here again.

Duck Foie Gras

Super cute inside, and service was outstanding. We enjoyed most of the food we ate. Great apps; oyster sliders, corn fritters, and hamachi toastadas were all delicious! Entrees; duck foie gras was definitely a winner, but two of us got swordfish and were disappointed with the unbelievable amount of salt. We both tried to get through them but could only manage to eat half. The manager comped one. We all shared a butter cake for dessert that was good. Huge and dense, thank goodness we shared! Nice wine selection with an array of price points for all palates and wallets. Thoughtful beer selection by can and bottle. No spirits. Definitely a great spot, but avoid the swordfish.

Very friendly and welcoming staff to help celebrate a special occasion with the family! We started with two appetizers--the Japanese hamachi sasashimi tostadas and the braised&charred Spanish octopus! I think the appetizers here are the highlight of the restaurant. The sashimi was a balanced fusion of Japanese and texmex with the pico and jalapeño giving it a kick that paired well with the citrus of the yuzu. The octopus was one of the softest and melt-in-your-mouth texture that I've had! Well done! And while it was amazing to eat on its own, the puree on the side was pleasant to dip the potatoes or the octopus in. I really liked my redfish but found the risotto a little too salty. The scallop risotto was also a bit on the salty side but the scallops were cooked to perfection--not too rubbery!

Always a delight to eat at Bliss. The chef is over the top! Food that not only tastes great, the presentation is always unique. Servers are always friendly, eager to assist, and such charming personalities. We like to reserve a table between 6:45 and 7:00. After that, it starts filling up. The restaurant has rustic charm and elegant vibes. Highly recommend this establishment.

Best Restaurant in San Antonio. The food is adventurous but "feel good" at the same time. Samishi Tostados? Crispy Quail? Yeah baby! Scallops over mushroom risotto- superb! As was the duck & four gras. Good wine selection, even by the glass! Ambience is high end but warm and kinda cozy without being formal or stuffy!Riley, Darren, Mary, Eber and the crew are fun, knowledgeable and do their jobs very well!! Looking forward to my next trip to San Antonio to drop in on Bliss. Or maybe I won't wait for a "reason"; it's a destination restaurant!

Ask the Community - Bliss

Does Bliss have spirits or only wine?

No liquor! Just wine, beer, and sake.

Please explain the dress code. Can men wear khaki shorts? Are casual rubber soled shoes sport shoes?

Rubber soled shoes like sperry's would be just fine. Crocs--no way imo!! Dress shorts~ depends on time of year. I would give them a call to have a better understanding of their dress code.

Do you have a corkage fee at Bliss?

Yes! $35 a bottle.

I know there is a parking lot, but do they offer valet?

No valet is offered but there's parking on the street around the restaurant.

How are the portions?

The portions are a little smaller but for the meat items they are bigger. Appetizers are small and fish plates are small as well.

What's the corckage policy on outside bottle brought in?

They charged $30.

What is the wine selection like?

Very extensive. They range from very affordable to very expensive, they have reds, whites, roses, and sparkling. Some you can get by glass, I believe you can get all of them as bottles. The one we had was a Pinot Nero, it was about $45 (I believe?)… Read more

It was clear we were in the right spot. The curtains were drawn when we arrived, creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Then, after the sun set over the Bexar County Courthouse, the curtains were opened and we were treated to a beautiful view of the River Walk. The timing couldn't have been more perfect -- it completely elevated the evening. Service was outstanding. Toryn was our server, and his approach was relaxed, friendly, and professional. He checked in periodically without ever being intrusive, and our water glasses were refilled constantly without us having to ask. The entire front-of-house team worked seamlessly together and made us feel genuinely taken care of. We also were given a lovely bread service. And the food -- absolutely delicious. The starters were phenomenal and set the tone for the meal. The meats were cooked perfectly -- flavorful, tender, and beautifully executed. Every course felt thoughtful and well-prepared. From the atmosphere to the service to the food, Biga on the Banks exceeded expectations. I would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience on the River Walk. Five stars all the way.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

We were right on the river walk, but walked through the entire restaurant on our way to be seated and every bit of it is as lovely as where we ended up sitting. This is a very busy place. However, the waiter was simply incredible. Very attentive, very informative quite humorous. He was frankly part of the river walk entertainment. Extremely accommodating and instructive as well. You can't hope for much more from a server in Restaurant than this activity. The food is really quite good. How are the drinks. Extremely dependable and the portions are generous and equally wonderful. There are many places to dine in San Antonio. However, this is an experience not to be missed and I mean that quite sincerely. Kudos for a very, very well run well situated and well managed enjoyable place to dine on the river walk in San Antonio.

Over-hyped, over-priced, unfriendly staff, watery drinks and terrible guacamole…read more My wife and I had a very bad experience while dining in this restaurant during the Fiesta San Antonio. Boudros was highly recommended by friends, and was the first restaurant on our list to dine in during our recent visit. We arrived at the restaurant on a Thursday around 7:45 pm and were told by a young Hostess that no walk-ins were allowed until after 9 pm. We decided to modify our itinerary and instead had dinner at a different restaurant on the riverwalk, and made a reservation for Boudros online for the following evening. When we arrived the following evening for our reservation at 7.30 pm, we were escorted to a small table in the bar that was next to the entrance to a small room. The area was noisy with a lot of foot traffic. We asked for a table in a quieter room and were moved to a room in the back of the restaurant where it was easier to have a conversation. A few minutes later our waiter, Stephen, approached the table. We asked him for drink recommendations and among others he recommended the "Prickly Pear Margarita". I ordered the Prickly Pear Margarita, and we also ordered the tableside Guacamole. The restaurant was busy, but there were several empty tables in our dining area. After about 15 to 20 minutes, the waiter brought our drinks. The Prickly Pear Margarita I received was not even close to the description on the menu. The ice was melted and it tasted like Fruit Punch with alcohol in a martini glass. A few minutes later, Stephen approached our table with the Guacamole cart. There were pieces of onions and cilantro all over the dirty table cloth on the cart. He prepared the Guacamole in front of us and it looked very unappealing. We watched as he added an excessive amount of diced onions and cilantro. Being a connoisseur of Guacamole, and making my own for most of my life, it was obvious that Stephen had not been trained well in how to make Guacamole. After he mixed the sliced avocados, the diced onions and cilantro, he wiped the edge of the stone tray with a dirty cloth. The onions and cilantro over powered the taste of the avocado. Later that evening, Stephen brought a very fancy drink for a customer sitting next to us. The drink looked like frozen lime juice with line of frozen strawberry and a nice scoop of frozen lime juice on top. I asked Stephen for the name of that drink, and he replied that it was the same drink that I had ordered. I asked why it looked so different and he muttered something about it being the end of the batch and then said "I'm not the Bartender". He blamed the Bartender for making the terrible drink, and made no effort to correct the problem. Later Stephen returned with our dinner, and as he approached our table, he ordered my wife to "move your glass!" Needless to say she was quite taken aback at his abrupt manner with no please or thank-you. In all the staff did not have a very good demeanor and were very sullen and grumpy. Even asking for directions to the bathroom barely elicited a glance and the needed information. Maybe the staff was overworked because of the number of visitors for the Fiesta, but the terrible, over-priced food, did not make up for the unhappy staff, and we do not plan to return.

Earlier in the day I took a walk through the King William neighborhood and stumbled on this beautiful old house with an inviting vibe. We were so glad we came back for dinner. He gave thoughtful recommendations and made the evening feel relaxed and welcoming. We started by sharing several dishes, all of which were spot on: Pears and Greens salad with lardons, frisée, arugula, radicchio, endive, Danish blue, and bacon vin - $16. Fresh, balanced, and perfect for sharing. Crispy Brussels Sprouts with maple, herbs, pecans, and cotija - $10. Crispy, flavorful, and addictive. Mac and Cheese - $12. Beautifully cooked and flavorful. Tomatillo Shrimp with grilled Gulf shrimp, white cheddar grit cake, and tomatillo butter - $28. Bold and delicious. Loretta Burger with crispy prosciutto, manchego, arugula, tomato, grilled red onion, and smash sauce on a brioche bun. Choice of fries or tots - $18 (some had tots, and one had fries - tasty). Absolutely nailed it. Queso Fundido Burger with fried chorizo-queso blanco, charred poblano, and cactus salsa verde. Choice of fries or tots - $20. Indulgent in the best way. My dining companions enjoyed a variety of wonderfully prepared cocktails while I stuck with a Topo Chico. I still felt right at home. Overall, Bar Loretta felt like a world away from the tourist-heavy spots along the River Walk. Dining out has gotten so expensive lately and too often the food or service does not justify the price.
