I finally got to try Bliss, thanks to Restaurant Week! We were immediately seated when we got to the restaurant. The waiter greeted us and gave us the option to order from their regular menu or the menu made specifically for Restaurant Week. We went with the edited menu and had an assortment of starters with the tostadas and the wedge salad being the top picks. Our main entrees consisted of the shrimp and grits which was amazingly delicious! The meatballs on the risotto were equally as good. For the desserts, I will say I thoroughly enjoyed my mix berries on the butter cake. Really delicious. Service was great. There was a bit of a long gap in between our starters and the entrees but they made it up with their overall friendly service. PSA for those with hearing challenges, the noise level is quite loud in the restaurant. I will say that I'd like to go back and try their other dishes. read more

Overall: 4.6/5 [dine in] Phenomenal service from start to finish. They were able to seat us on the patio as a walk in on a Saturday night, checked in to offer us a spot by the fireplace when it opened up, kept our water filled throughout the night, and even asked how we wanted our food served. Little touches like that really make a difference. They also brought out complimentary ciabatta bread when we were first seated and then without us asking, brought a fresh batch after our appetizer. The second round was better, with a nice crispy edge that made that satisfying crunch when you squeezed it. Really good with the butter, though if the butter had been just a little saltier it would have been perfect. Beef Carpaccio ($32): Good but average. The individual components were all there but the dish felt like it was missing cohesion. The black sesame parmesan tuiles were a standout though. Georges Bank Seared Sea Scallop ($49): Three huge scallops cooked phenomenally. The mushroom risotto was a bit al dente and on the saltier side, and the mushroom flavor didn't come through as much as I would have liked. The squid ink beurre blanc was lovely though and really brought the dish together. Despite the risotto I would still order this again just for those scallops. Duck and Foie Gras ($46): The duck was cooked beautifully and the foie gras wasn't too heavy, just the right amount. I loved the strawberry arugula salad that came with it. The pairing worked really well overall. I personally didn't think butternut squash was the right puree choice but my husband disagreed and absolutely loved this dish. Foucher Sancerre Rosé ($15 glass): I am usually not a fan of rosé because of how dry they tend to be, but this one was not bad. It tasted much better when paired with food. August Riesling ($12 glass): A yummy, sweet drink that is refreshing and easy to drink. I had to pace myself or I would have finished it before the main courses even came out. read more

Despite having food poisoning from eating the short rib meal, I will say that the food was delicious and the service was superb. We completely loved Marcy and her expertise with the menu and the service! The ambiance was amazing too. It was chill and the low lights with the table lamps made it feel great! This restaurant came highly recommended by friends from San Antonio. I was there with 7 others enjoying time away from home. Bliss is a bit upscale and while most of us arrived in golf attire, I would suggest business casual for the dress code. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Mary was our server and did an excellent job handling our group. While we all asked for separate checks, the automatic 20% gratuity was already added to our tab but was highlighted on the check. I ordered with Oyster Sliders which were very good. The octopus appetizer was shared with the group and was also very tender and tasty. For the main course, I ordered the special of Shrimp and Grits. Bliss was a wonderful place to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday last weekend. Our table was ready upon arrival (with reservations, of course), and Matty, our server, was excellent. He knew the menu well, took great care of us, and truly made the evening feel special. My husband and I both ordered the ribeye, cooked Pittsburgh rare, and the kitchen absolutely delivered--perfectly crusted on the outside with a beautiful red center. The front patio was quiet and relaxing, the service was exemplary and the food was spectacular Just look at the photos of their carpacchio and tuna tartar appetizers, followed up with a shrimp and grits with an out-of-this-world Cajun beurre blanc. My wife and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary; I knew Bliss had been on her radar for sometime. Going in the door, I should say I have a love/hate relationship with what I consider to be high dollar bougie/trendy restaurants. The experiences, for the most part, are often good, but I routinely leave feeling I overpaid for the amount of food received. We were seated promptly and there is absolutely no complaint about the service here. The "happy anniversary" printed on our menus was a nice touch. We were waited on consistently throughout our meal; the table was constantly bussed and cleared away. The ambiance is perfect for a date night...low lit and quiet. We shared the oyster sliders to start, which were fine. Entrees included the beef short ribs for me and scallops and mushroom risotto for her. Everything was very well done, beautifully presented, and the portions were a decent size...but I was still hungry when I was finished. My wife ate most of her meal, but began feeling a little queasy toward the end. So, I was on my own for dessert and was underwhelmed by the butter cake. I found it crumbly and dry, and did not care to finish it. My wife got sick on the way home and was not a happy camper the rest of our anniversary evening. The staff was wonderful and so patient. We had many questions and they were quick while being able to be thorough on their responses. All the food was quite different in flavor with different textures we were not expecting. The bathrooms were clean, the cutlery was constantly being changed out. There was one dish that was completely inedible the whole table tried to eat it and it was just unpleasant so that is the reason for one less star. It went unnoticed by the staff and we didn't want to call out the dish or make a scene. Everything else was wonderful and we had a great time! read more

This was our first stop for restaurant week, and it did not disappoint! From start to finish, the experience was wonderful. We started with corn fritters and hamachi tostadas, which were so tasty that I didn't even manage to get a photo before they were gone. I will definitely be back for the hamachi-- it was my favorite bite from the night. For entrees, we ordered a NY strip and short rib. The NY strip was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the short rib fell apart perfectly. So delicious! The desserts were also amazing, especially the butter cake. On top of three great courses, the service was outstanding as well. We ate outside and we were comfortable with the fans going and someone even came around offering bug spray which was a nice touch. Visited this charming establishment for the first time. It's very cozy with limited seating, but feels warm and intimate. The service was friendly and quite impeccable. We visited for Culinaria. And it didn't disappoint. My appetizer was corn fritters and my friend had oyster sliders. Both were quite tasty with an added crunch and zesty flavor. My entrée was a braised short rib that was so tender. It fell off the bone. It was packed with flavor. My friend had a very tender and perfectly seasoned pork chop. Entrees; duck foie gras was definitely a winner, but two of us got swordfish and were disappointed with the unbelievable amount of salt. We started with two appetizers--the Japanese hamachi sasashimi tostadas and the braised&charred Spanish octopus! I think the appetizers here are the highlight of the restaurant. The sashimi was a balanced fusion of Japanese and texmex with the pico and jalapeño giving it a kick that paired well with the citrus of the yuzu. The octopus was one of the softest and melt-in-your-mouth texture that I've had! Well done! And while it was amazing to eat on its own, the puree on the side was pleasant to dip the potatoes or the octopus in. I really liked my redfish but found the risotto a little too salty. I ordered Mexican corn fritters from the first course, vegetarian bowl from the second and butter cake from the third. Corn fritters were so so, but I loved the presentation. The farro bowl with dried figs and goat cheese was excellent. And the butter cake was ok. I also got a mocktail which was essentially mango purée and sprite. On a business trip in San Antonio, and my group had a night free. We did a quick search and found Bliss. It looked tasty. It was!! We shared the oyster sliders to start. They were good. I think I liked them better than my coworker. Next up was the beet salad. This was fantastic. The mix of the beets and citrus with the light dressing was just heavenly. I had the pork schnitzel. It was huge. I could only eat half. It was really well done. The balsamic drizzle on top was light and added a sweet note. It was lovely. I loved the space. This was our second visit to Bliss and we LOVED it! We arrived about 10-15 minutes earlier than our reservation and were prepared to wait. But, there was no wait and the hostess immediately sat us. Lovely ambiance and wonderful service from beginning to end. We ordered the Grilled Octopus as an appetizer and it was cooked to perfection. The char on it was so delicious! There was even a little mix-up in our appetizer order and we received the wrong dish. Our server graciously and quickly corrected the issue. For entrees, we ordered the Scallops and the Redfish. Again, both dishes were cooked to perfection. For dessert, we just shared ice cream and it was nice. Our only complaint is that we shared with our server that we were celebrating our anniversary and he casually offered us two glasses of champagne to celebrate. We are used to fine dining establishments offering us champagne when we celebrate our anniversary; however, they usually offer complimentary glasses. Our server did not tell us the glasses were not complimentary and we were charged for them in the end. Not a dealbreaker, but would have been nice to know beforehand. Small, cozy place in Southtown. Came here for a date night and celebration. They had a tasting menu that was available Tues-Thurs nights for a limited time that is like a restaurant week menu for a decent price. We had a great variety of food and everything was phenomenal. The grilled octopus tastes almost as good as octopus we had in Kyoto. The short ribs were super tender. The tostadas were light, citrusy and refreshing. The butternut squash cheesecake was a perfect and interesting dessert. Never thought about putting squash into a cheesecake but flavors were subtle and not too sweet. The forest cake was thick and rich though - you def need a glass of milk to go with that. Service was quick. The waitress was super attentive and made great recommendations! I have so many things to say and so little characters to express what I felt. This restaurant was phenomenal. We started the evening with roasted octopus. It was two legs with sauce and the most amazing flavored potatoes. Everything about this meal was incredible. Now that I'm writing this review, I don't know entirely what the garnishes were but it was so flavorful. Our entrees consisted of redfish and chefs waygu ribeye. The redfish was indescribable. It was salty but not too salty. The squid risotto is a little daunting because of the color but it contributed so much flavor to the dish. The fish itself was (how many times can I say this word) phenomenal. Slightly crisp with a punch of flavor. It's how a fish dish should be. I told my server (Candice, who was amazing by the way) that I wanted this meal to be my death meal, I'm not even playing. The waygu ribeye is a chef thing so whenever they decide to make it, it's there but oh my God. Please get it if it's offered. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium per my husband's request) and so tasteful. It was 16oz of pure glory. It was served with mashed potatoes, asparagus and blistered tomatoes. For the price, what more could you want. But don't forget to try desert. We only tired their butter cake but by God, it was almost the most perfect thing of the night. It was buttery, sweet (a scoop of ice cream) and a little tart (berry compote). This dinner might have been the most perfect dining experience I've ever received. To reiterate the food was phenomenal, the service was spectacular and the ambiance of the restaurant was perfect. We will 100% be returning. read more

I don't know where my friend found this place, but I am so glad she did! I am even hungry again as I write this. Four of us went on a girls trip to San Antonio to visit the Riverwalk. She had told us that she always likes to visit one fancy restaurant during every trip she takes, and she chose Bliss for this one. We all decided to walk from our hotel to here, which was about a mile each way. You wouldn't know there was a fine dining place such as Bliss based on where it was. It was hidden, and kind of around some sketchy areas. We eventually saw a basic sign on the corner that indicated this next lot was for Bliss parking. We still questioned us being in the right location despite maps saying you're coming right for it. Even the name was basically hidden and indicated very small on one of their glass windows. The business is fairly small, so make sure to snag a reservation. We noticed an older clientele here, at least for the majority. Two of us ordered iced teas and another friend ordered wine, and another one ordered a cider. Our server, Mary was outstanding. We have never had someone so good in quite some time. She even figured out that one of our group members was dairy free and took extra care of her, explaining each side and toppings and what not was going on any dish she ordered and asked if it would work or if she would like to substitute sides. We started with the corn fritters appetizer which came with chili butter, some cream and some cheese. It was delicious! I wanted more as there was enough for one of us to have a piece each, but we had more food to come. Three of us ordered the duck foie gras. I never had foie gras! It came with a strawberry salad side and some sauce to smear the duck in. It was SO GOOD! We all polished off our plates. Our other friend was going to go with the red snapper but it included risotto which had some kind of dairy involved. She ended up going with the scallops and replaced her sides with the spinach and asparagus options Mary gave her. She absolutely loved her dish as well. If that wasn't enough enjoyment, they brought out dessert menus. We all wanted something different. Mary immediately told my friend that their dairy free option was a choice of a berry sorbet (I forgot the details), and orange sorbet, and an avocado lime ice cream. Then she offered to have her try all three. She was set. One of my friends went with the chocolate bar dessert, another friend went with the butter cake, and I went with the lavender goat cheesecake. If you know me well, I am a huge fan of lavender and goat cheese and they just combined the two. The bite of butter cake I tried was amazing! It was hard not to get that. We all polished off our desserts. Everything tasted amazing here, and I wish it was not so far away from me. I'll be dreaming of it forever. I had always wanted to visit this place. Since it's San Antonio Culinaria Restaurant week, I decided to give it a chance. It's a great opportunity to try out a place for less price. The ambience is nice and moody. I brought a book, but you could bring a date. There's lots of free parking, which is rare for Downtown these days. The food was delicious. I had the arugula salad, the short ribs, and the butter cake. The restaurant only serves beer and wine, but you can also get coffee. Every morsel was delicious, the short rib specifically I could barely get a picture of before, I dove in. I wiped the bowl clean with the complimentary bread and butter. 10 out of 10. I'd heard great things about this place, although was cautioned it was on the pricier side, so what better time than to try during restaurant week... we were not disappointed at all! All of the workers were over the top nice and attentive, the owner was even out having conversations with what seemed to be the regulars and checked in on us throughout our experience. The food was to die for. We started with the tostadas and sliders for our first course. Very different picks from each other, but both great with unique tastes. For the main course, I went with the short ribs and my fiancé went with the shrimp and grits. I enjoyed my dish more, as the short ribs were so tender and juicy, but the shrimp and grits was also delicious! And for the final course, dessert... honestly the star of the show, but I may be biased because I love desserts. The carrot cake was amazing and the butter cake was moist and delicious. My dear friend treated me to yet another amazing restaurant I hadn't been too. Bliss definitely blew me away. It was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Our waiter Brett was very knowledgeable on all the menu items and gave excellent recommendations. One thing that really stood out to me was on how another server came out to place our entrees down and apparently the plates weren't facing the correct way. I asked Brett what the difference was he stated none of your food should be hiding. You should be able to see it all when placed in front of you. Such a small detail to most but I personally love to learn little things like this. Tony the Chef graciously visited our table multiple times and made sure everything was ok. He even sent a complimentary item to our table that was totally unexpected and delicious. My highlight... never say never !! This was my first time trying frog legs, which I've said I never would.
