    Milk bread

I loved the milk bread, it was soft and toasted just right. The pork belly was a bit oily but other than that I enjoyed it and it was seasoned so well. The smoked duck wasn't what I expected and it lacked a little in the flavor. When we walked in there was no one to tell us where to sit so we stood around awkwardly for 5 minutes (there was no stand or indication on where to wait and when you walk inside there is tables next to the door). The tables are also a bit crowded inside.

Last chance to eat here before me move! Invited my gals who grub and their husbands to enjoy my favorite San Antonio restaurant. Kenzie was a gracious server who answered my emails and made us all feel welcome. The new items that we didn't have a chance to try previously were the squash, the summer orrichiette, dak galbi, and the Humboldt fog and fig salads. One of my friends is severely lactose intolerant and Kenzie marked all the menu items that had dairy. It was a simple kindness, but he really appreciated it. He felt like the menu was customized just for him. The only things we didn't order were the tofu and the duck. The milk bread was so good, with its crunchy exterior and pillowy interior. It felt like eating heaven as we gluttonously devoured it. The mushrooms have the best texture and flavor alone, but the creamy sauce and the braised leek added a tanginess that rounded out the umami goodness. The crispy dak galbi was delicious as it reminded me of a roasted version of bul dak with the spicy sauce. The cook on the ribeye was perfection. We ended the meal with the best butter cake in town. Thank you, Magpie, for the excellent sendoff!

We came for a nice new years eve dinner. We started with the milk bread which was warm and delicious and then had the butterscotch squash. This was sweet and soft with a great sauce compliment. For mains we ordered carbonara and pork belly. The carbonara was creamy and flavorful and the pork belly was great and crispy with a good amount of spice. Our server was pleasant and attentive but not too much so. We are outside and it was a beautiful night though we could hear music and trivia from the bar next door which we didn't mind but could bother some. We ended the night with a chocolate mousse. The only thing I wish they had was a cocktail menu to top things off.

We made last minute reservations for 3 people and had a very delicious meal. The menu is seasonal and changes often. We basically tried the whole menu (minus three dishes). Great value for the food, great place to share plates!

Second time coming here. They change items on their menu every season so new items rotate in while some stay the same. We had friends come into town so decided to bring them here. The interior is nice as always and tables are arranged so things could be intimate. Make your reservations in advance because this place is only open for a few hours 3 days a week. Food was absolutely phenomenal. This restaurant truly does not disappoint. The milk bread reminds me of childhood when I used to go to those Asian bakeries back in New York. It had a sweet and buttery taste that evokes nostalgia. They still had this smoked duck on the menu which I had in July. And why not keep it? Seems like a fan favorite, my friends absolutely loved it. The King oyster mushrooms was also an amazing dish. The sauce was a creamy savory blend which complemented the soft tender umami mushrooms. Regarding the gnocchi, my friend said she normally does not like eating gnocchi because it's too starchy. However, this wasn't the case at all and was actually one of her favorite dishes. The Dak Galbi was again cooked perfectly tender. It's amazing how they get the chicken right every single time without drying it out. The sauce does carry a little kick but gets softened by their rice cakes. The pork belly was another elevated dish. Pork belly was crispy and blended well with the fennel/cabbage. Absolutely loved the rib-eye as well. Medium rare is the only way to go and they cooked it perfectly. I pretty much ate the entire thing myself. They had their homemade orange based butter sauce that was just to die for. Look forward to coming back again in the future.

Magpie does not disappoint! Consistently great food, great service, and cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend this place!

Highly recommend making a reservation, they get incredibly busy. This is my favorite restaurant in SA, service is immaculate, incredibly clean, nice dim lights and well decorated. Now the food was just extraordinary, if I could order the whole menu I would. Just wonderfully seasoned, beautiful presentation, and great incorporation of Korean cuisine. There was this fennel slaw served with the pork bossam that is to die for! Wish I took more pictures

Great food, very intimate dining atmosphere. Good service. A little bit loud inside but otherwise an overall lovely experience to go with 2-4 people (very small dining area). Would recommend having a reservation.

Had the dak galbi. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were delicious. Service was very good. Dinner portion was large and enough to share the chicken, however, I would recommend going here with a group. As stated by the chef on the menu, the portions are for sharing so there was a lot of chicken vs the portion of vegetables/carbs (good for groups). Sat at the bar which is nice but is used to store dinnerware. I would definitely come here again to try some of the other dishes and apps since they looked delicious.

Made reservations for 2 about a week ahead. Had the milk bread - warm and tasty! Citrus salad was refreshing, it was a right amt of vinaigrette and not overpowering. Husband and I shared the shrimp toast and snapper. Shrimp was a good size and there was a good shrimp to bread bite ratio - some buttery goodness! The snapper on its own was a bit salty for me, but the lemony blend complemented it well. Restaurant can be a bit loud, but I had no problem hearing my husband and didnt feel like I was raising my voice. Melissa was excellent! She was prompt and everything was on point with our order!

Great experience. Dishes are meant to be shared. We loved how they came out one at a time so we could savor each dish. Service and food was Amazing. Hard to pick a favorite dish as they were all fantastic in their own way. The best dinner experience we have ever had in San Antonio.

This place is too fire & the butter cake slaps. The smoked duck with cherry sauce was bussin.

Confit Duck Wings, to die for
    Pramiti M.

Oh my goodness, the confit duck wings are to die for, and then be revived, just to die for it again. Utterly delicious, and became my entire personality for the week. My husband and I went for my birthday dinner to Magpie since I had heard talk of it amongst my acquaintances who loved the food, and so I wanted to try it out for myself. What a great decision it was to start off 2025 with! We ended up ordering the signature milk bread which was so soft and light with the most mysteriously tasty, plain-looking butter, the decadent confit duck wings that have me willing to martyr myself, and the crispy pork belly ssam, which, although in itself a great dish, paled against the greatness of the most delicious confit duck wings. That, combined with the fact that I don't like peanuts but failed to note that the pork belly would have some on them, dampened my effervescent, post-confit-duck-wings spirits a little, but they were soon rescued by the appearance of the dessert - a flan that was decidedly not light nor airy nor very caramel-y, but dense and sweet and delicious yet not overwhelming! The jammy blueberries on top wrapped it up quite nicely, leaving us very satisfied indeed. The space isn't very big, and it was quite noisy when we first came in, which usually is irksome to me, but it petered out as the night went along and the confit duck wings took over my senses. We did have a reservation, and were promptly seated when we arrived! I shall be back. For the confit duck wings, please never ever take it off the menu, pretty please.

Wasn't too oily and had great texture. The taco samosa was subtle but lacked a little bit in flavor. The quail biryani came with this avocado creme sauce that was bomb but the quail itself was pretty bland. The sea bass was cooked perfectly but I was a bit disappointed in that the curry lacked flavor. As someone who loves Indian spices/flavors, I felt like a lot was held back which is why I am giving this place a 4 for the first time. Service was quick and food and drinks were almost always filled throughout the night.

Everything came out quickly, the service was smooth, and the whole menu felt approachable. I enjoyed the crawfish roll, which is a really nice alternative to the crab roll. Almost every time I see crawfish that's been peeled be someone else on a menu, I get pretty excited. Anyway, it served with the made-in-house hot sauce mixed with the drawn butter. Yummy. The fries were especially good, and dessert really surprised us. The carrot cake is very mild on the spice side, which actually let the textures shine, especially the brittle on top. It was incredibly light, crunchy, and honestly the best part of the dessert. We also appreciated how efficient everything was. They were able to seat us on the patio as a walk in on a Saturday night, checked in to offer us a spot by the fireplace when it opened up, kept our water filled throughout the night, and even asked how we wanted our food served. Little touches like that really make a difference. They also brought out complimentary ciabatta bread when we were first seated and then without us asking, brought a fresh batch after our appetizer. The second round was better, with a nice crispy edge that made that satisfying crunch when you squeezed it. Really good with the butter, though if the butter had been just a little saltier it would have been perfect. Beef Carpaccio ($32): Good but average. The individual components were all there but the dish felt like it was missing cohesion. The black sesame parmesan tuiles were a standout though. Georges Bank Seared Sea Scallop ($49): Three huge scallops cooked phenomenally. The mushroom risotto was a bit al dente and on the saltier side, and the mushroom flavor didn't come through as much as I would have liked. The squid ink beurre blanc was lovely though and really brought the dish together. Despite the risotto I would still order this again just for those scallops. Duck and Foie Gras ($46): The duck was cooked beautifully and the foie gras wasn't too heavy, just the right amount. I loved the strawberry arugula salad that came with it. The pairing worked really well overall. I personally didn't think butternut squash was the right puree choice but my husband disagreed and absolutely loved this dish. Foucher Sancerre Rosé ($15 glass): I am usually not a fan of rosé because of how dry they tend to be, but this one was not bad. It tasted much better when paired with food. August Riesling ($12 glass): A yummy, sweet drink that is refreshing and easy to drink. I had to pace myself or I would have finished it before the main courses even came out.
