One of the best experiences I've had in a long time. My hubby and I came for our anniversary. We got there a little earlier than our reservation, Antonio greeted us at the door. We sat at a 2 seater table by the kitchen. I ordered the Sangria and hubby got an Estrella beer. The place is quaint and very personal. I loved the decor...it is very unique but for the type of restraurant this is...its warranted. Very chic! We got the baked cheese, rum pork belly with couscous, flat bread, ceviche, and the lamb chops tapas. Every dish was perfect...seasoned really well. The pairings of each dish was . I'm not exaggerating...this food was so good y'all. We ended with dessert...I got the bread pudding and the hubby got the flan with sangria sauce, both were amazing. Had a really good meal at Hola. Small space. We embraced the tapas and shared 4 different dishes. My favorite was the calamari over black rice. The rice was likely made black by using squid ink or something similar. Delicious. I love the subtle seafood flavor of the rice. We enjoyed each of our other dishes too - I loved the moorish lamb stew as well. Surprisingly, it has figs in it which created, when cooked melted into the stew except for the little crunch seeds. Stumbled into Hola yesterday with my husband and wow... tapas heaven! The wine list is longer than my holiday shopping list, and the flavors basically threw a fiesta in my mouth. Service? Let's just say we were treated like long-lost royalty (minus the crown, sadly). Our food came out hot, fast, and delicious -- no hanger meltdowns required. We were just wandering aimlessly looking for dinner and pooped in here. Luckily, they were able to seat us with only a short wait. Fantastic art on the wall, cute decor with mismatched chairs that give it a homey vibe, and the coolest servers around. And the food!!! We got a pitcher of red sangria, charred cauliflower, asparagus with Serrano ham, and the Hola! paella. Everything was delicious - I would love to know what was in the sauce for the cauliflower, because it was "lick the plate" good. Getting the two veggie tapas was great to start while we waited for the paella. It's funny - the paella doesn't look like a huge dish but it was plenty for the three of us. The paella was fabulous too - chock full of fish, seafood, chorizo, and chicken. Finally, we ended with a bread pudding and omg again. I'd go back just for that. Hola experience was good. Quaint ambience. Loved the portraits on the wall. Pretty restrooms. I ordered tapas as I am lacto vegetarian that day and got a few plates from their cheese and veggies section. The baked goat cheese with toast was amazing! So was the grilled asparagus and patatas bravas. But, I did not like the charred cauliflower. My friends got the paella and boy it was steaming hot that my friends were literally sweating! We sampled all their desserts. Their bread pudding was fantastic! Great texture and perfect amount of sweetness. The chocolate truffles, churros and rice pudding were pretty good as well. Ok I was immediately seated and the place is clean enough, and it was a pleasure to sit at the counter and watch the talented chefs at work. This is a performance kitchen, and they can't hide any secrets. Listed under "cheese and veggies", even the "asparagus" and "patatas bravas" have meat (ham and chorizo, respectively). I guess I can understand enough Spanish at this point that I low key knew what I was getting into, but the asparagus definitely didn't need that jamon. The tuna was both too meaty and too shredded, and was paired with an unexpected hair, so I didn't manage to finish, and the kind server seemed distracted, so I didn't try to give feedback. Overall I assume Hola gets fresh ingredients on Thursdays, and that I was catching ingredients on their way out, and (based on other reviews) I can assume that their weekend guests get a better show. read more

We were on our way to eat tacos but had to jump through hoops and buildings to get past the construction going on at hilton palacio del rio. We finally got past that one and saw the sandwich sign outside Hola and saw Paella and tapas listed and we were intrigued ... We decided to give them a shot. It was our 10 year wedding anniversary and decided to have a few tapas - We walked in the guy said we could sit in the tiny room with the bar or at a table in the next room. The heck? there was only one other table besides that one being used and that was the ONLY table that i chose that you needed????? I was pissed but i didnt want to make a scene and actually wanted to try this place out. We ordered the shrimp al ajo and scallops. they brought scallops and tuna tartare. .. we got that sent back and brought the other. the sauces were so good we asked for a few more than one piece per person - and in that time we waited for more bread they took our sauce away. the guy was told by our waitress - so he joked we needed to slap his hand next time. I love this place, I've been here a few times and it's my go to tapas place! It has a very homey vibe, like you're somewhere is Europe. Beware though, the kitchen closes about an hour before they close, but they will let you know as soon as you walk in and work with you. Cute and cozy inside and a really cool outdoor patio as well for when the weather is nice! Food is really good too. My favorites I've tried so far include the charred cauliflower, bay scallops (nonnegotiable MUST order!!), and tuna tartare. So much more on the menu that I want to go back & try! Warning parking might be tricky for you. Cheapest parking (if you can't snag a street parking spot) will probably be parking at Hemisfair Park and walking over. Excellent Spanish Tapas!!! One member of our trio is from Sevilla so it was a litmus test for quality of food. He loved the food. Service was great as was the food. We had the escargot. So delicious in a creamy sauce paired with the toasted bread for the sauce. We also had the Gambas al Ajillo. So garlicky and yummy. We also had the seafood paella, delicious but also had small portions of sausage. None of us eat meat so were puzzled by the small chunks of sausage. Otherwise was delicious. I definitely love sangria that's not too sweet. We shared: baked cheese: this was so good. It had a hint of sweetness to it. I would have enjoyed more bread to dip with. Otherwise, I would highly recommend. Patatas Bravas: these were my least favorite. Good, but would have liked a stronger flavor. It does come with pieces of sausage. Charred cauliflower: very good. Comes with parmesan Mayo. You really don't need the Mayo. It has a good taste in its own. pinchos de carne: tender. Good flavor. Bay scallops: so this dish is pieces of scallop in a cheese sauce. It loved it. It had good flavor. It could be shared with one person, but if more than two in your party, get more than one. We shared all this between two of us. We thought it was enough food. They don't have parking, but there's street parking and a paid parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. You can make reservations. They have inside and outside seating. My husband and brother loved the lamb and the kick of spiciness in it The calamari is not your typical deep fried one, but the squid ink rice with it was good combo! Have been here twice already. This place is just a gem!! I love tapas, you can order several small plates and get different flavors, and still get full. The first time I went alone over the summer and it was delish! I went back over the holidays and it was great! . Their Papas con chorizo (patatas a la brava? can't remember the name!) are to die for. I'd probably order like 4 plates and have that for dinner alone!! But, they have other such tasty dishes too! The squid Ink rice was delicious also! Service (2/5): Polite but pretty slow and low attention for a 1/4 filled restaurant on weekends. Had to walk over to ask for water refills and next dish. They do close at 10pm not 11pm as Google/Yelp has, so at 9:45 the music stopped and we clarified closing time. Food (2/5): Nothing was spectacular- except for the amount of seafood in the paella. The overly tenderness of the pulpo octopus felt it was not fresh like the ones from Spanish restaurants, but came with patatas that were crispy and nice vinaigrette. The paella was the best out of all- hot, great portion of seafood while little rice; but we've had better as it was lacking some sort of spice, had a lot of rocky/sandy bites, and very soupy. The cauliflower was ok, sauce was salty, not worth $7 maybe $4. We enjoyed the escargot which was tender with zesty sauce; it comes mixed not French style FYI. Overall, not reflective of the reviews with big rooms to improve. If the service, quality, AND quantity lives up to the price it's be perfect. read more

We recently dined at Hola, and while we were so impressed by the food, the service was pretty disappointing. We had to wait to be seated because the server and the hostess were both fighting with each other (not clear about what since I do not speak Spanish LOL. Ugh I wish I knew. It seemed like something juicy was going on). Anyway, we should have walked out then, but we decided to stay and give them a try. The waitress took a while to take our order, and when the food arrived, our water wasn't refilled until we explicitly had to flag her down! Hola! is an international Tapas restaurant located in San Antonio, TX. Restaurant has a decent selection of meats, seafood and vegetables and offers beer and wine alcohol choices only. It has both an indoor seating and a very large wrap around patio outside. Restaurant has somewhat of a cafeteria feel to it. We came in around 8PM for dinner on Thursday night and after looking around where told by bus staff who was cleaning tables we can sit anywhere. We sat outside for about 15 minutes during which I had to get my own menus from the inside of the restaurant which was barely at quarter capacity. There was no sign of wait staff here. No water, no hello, no menu. Finally a wait staff greeted us and mentioned she will be back. The same bus staff appeared 5 minutes later with water for us. We asked if they have time to serve us. She apologized and assured us food comes out fast. The server then appeared at with no apologies for lateness asked what we wanted to order. We double checked if the food will actually come out soon to which she replied that kitchen is backed up and we should expect at least 30 minutes. We left as clearly Hola! was a disorganized, disappointing, uncoordinated experience and not worth spending money on establishment with low values and terrible customer service. No comment on food since we didn't have any, but I will end it with: "How you do Something you do Everything..." for your consideration. Had dinner last night at Hola and really enjoyed it. The wine butter escargot was cooked perfectly and full of garlic. The charred cauliflower with parmesan mayo was the best I ever had. The Moroccan lamb stew had tender, lean lamb meat and the flavors of cumin, cinnamon, coriander were perfectly balanced. We sat at the bar and it was a little warm, but worth the show watching the Chef prepare the dishes. Can't wait to return. read more
