We popped in after having coffee and breakfast around the corner. We didn't realize they would have a full kitchen and menu along with a variety of drink options. The place was busy with a number of bike riders stopping in after their rides. Seems like a pretty popular meet up spot. Even though we were stuffed from coffee and breakfast sandwiches, we ordered the tofu bites and they didn't disappoint. The tofu was perfectly crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The salsa verde served on the side was a delicious accompaniment. We also made friends because this is a very small world afternoon. Can't wait to return!

Stopped by after taking photos at Landa Library with my partner. We grabbed beers and a quick bite to eat. I ordered the grilled cheese and my partner got the burger. The food was good, but not outstanding. The beer was great though and there was a wide variety to choose from. We also got a can of the sour to try at home which was balanced and refreshing. There's plenty of seating and the space has a good vibe. The staff were super friendly, welcoming, and gave us their recommendations. I'd recommend this brewery and would like to stop by here again.

I found this place just browsing on yelp for a lunch spot and I was so impressed. The area is under some serious construction but this place is absolutely awesome. The bartender was so friendly and conversational, the beers were DELICIOUS, and the space is so chill and relaxing--and CLEAN. And the food---wings were probably the crispiest, most flavorful wings I've ever had....so impressive. They do community events as well and support our San Antonio Wrestling ambassadors.....awesome establishment. Thank you for an awesome lunch. We will be back!

Amazing Food with fast friendly service. This is a great place lunch, not too crowded and you'll be in & out in less than 40 - unless you order a second beer. The place is casual, seating both inside and under a covered patio. Located on Greyson in the Government Hill area, Breakaway Brewery has an upbeat vibe. Give them a try. Headed into Breakaway for Restaurant Week. This was my first time and the food was delicious!!! We did have the Restaurant Week menu which was chips, a smash burger, and a cherry bread pudding. All were super yummy! The chips had a kick to them. And the burger came with a potato salad that was so fresh. We also ordered the Breakaway Breakfast Sandwich!! Wow!! The Biscuit! The thick cut bacon! The egg was cooked perfectly! And the hot honey...chef's kiss. The beers were also good and we were able to talk to the brewer and he gave a lot of background on the beers. I loved that you could tell all the food was made from scratch. I will definitely be back!

Run. Don't walk. I repeat, run don't walk. If you don't listen to me you have only yourself to blame. I don't recommend Breakaway. I am a doctor and I prescribe it. Chris made my very first visit impeccable. I will be back. There is no way I could not.

Outside seating area. Well lit in the evening.

Recommend: Yes! I'd been craving a beer for a few weeks and was looking for a place that had outside seating where I could read a book. I know what you're thinking..."who goes to a bar to get beer??" . This place was just what I was looking for to satisfy my craving. Service: The service was great and fast! I had questions about some of the beer and the bartender was great and patient at answering them. They also offered small tastes of the beer I was interested in to help me make my choice. Ambiance: I really enjoyed the ambiance. They had good music on that ranged from several genres and wasn't too loud. This allowed conversations to occur without having to yell. There were plenty of seating areas to choose from. Some seating was a little more private or others closer to the bar area. There was a whole wall of windows that allowed you to look outside, see the street and Fort Sam Houston. It was nice to see something outside vs a wall. There were TV's and bikes hung on the walls adding to the vibe (take a moment to read about the owners). There are several board games available if you come with a group of friends. They also hold games nights! Food: The beer def hit the spot. I ordered the "Forget me not" which had blueberry. It was enjoyable and part of the proceeds went to an Alzheimer's charity. I also had "The Texan." They offer various sizes to choose from and have tasting flights. The prices are reasonable. I only had the polenta fries, they were fresh and found them to be very crispy (yum!), the Gorgonzola dipping sauce complimented them very well. It was light, fresh, and just the right amount of tangy for the polenta fries. If you are looking for a spot to grab a beer on your own, hang out and to catch up with friends, play board games or simply relax, I highly recommend Breakaway Brewing.

Ambiance: Cycling themed brewery off Grayson Street with multiple seating areas and a kitchen. I enjoyed sitting at the bar and drinking one of their IPAs. Decent pricing, fast/friendly service, and pretty good beer! Cute theme, great for any cyclists or sports enthusiasts. Chill spot perfect for hanging out on the weekend or post-work day. Definitely got busier late afternoon/early evening. Parking onsite in a connecting lot. They take Apple Pay!

The vibe, the crispy pale ale..... Very excellent. I'm just a transient passing through but this place treated me like family. But the "Domestique" is A+++++

Delicious food and excellent service. The ambiance is quite nice. The restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes it perfect for a relaxing meal with friends or family. The staff is attentive and friendly, always making sure you feel well taken care of.

Bread pudding, cranberry and sour cream ice cream, and pineapple hard cider.

The guy who served us was awesome, and the food was just as amazing. The cider was super tasty, and the bread pudding-- which I don't usually go for--totally won me over. We had it à la mode with the flavor of the day: cranberry and sour cream ice cream. So good!

That's odd because it is open-seating without a hostess stand. I'm glad we just rolled with it. Also, seating is quite limited, even with the patio. We walked around twice before another couple got up, and we grabbed their seats. Now, with no hostess, this is a recipe for exactly what happened to us. No one came by the table for well over ten minutes (possibly fifteen). Once they did, we had very attentive service. None of that changes the fact that the guy who told us to "sit anywhere" walked past us four times without acknowledging our presence. The food is only average. The schnitzel appetizer was unseasoned and tough. The fried bologna sandwich for my wife was extremely good. She was not as fond of the potato salad. It did not really look like it was picking a side - neither German-style nor southern. She said it had some characteristics of German-style, but there was a definite mayo-based dressing. As for my pastrami sandwich...the pastrami was quite good. Honestly, I do not understand why it is so hard to find good pastrami in a state like Texas (you know, with such an historical mix of cultures that virtually spread it across the globe). This pastrami came in at a solid B. The remainder of the sandwich was completely awful. Tough bread, minimal cheese. I don't eat rotted cabbage (sauerkraut) or thousand island, so I put mayo on the sandwich. As a side note, whoever writes the menu should know that a sandwich with those four components is called a "Reuben," rather than "pastrami sandwich." Anyway, good beer, as should be the case with any brew-pub kind of place. The location is on a narrow, residential street. There is really only street parking, so you REALLY have to want to come here to deal with that level of nonsense. It was an interesting visit, but definitely not worth a return. Ever.

Update to first review below, rating updated from a 3 to a 5 star (drinks & bartender would get 10+…read morestars if we could rate that high): Saturday night: Went back for after dinner drinks at the Downstairs (a "speakeasy" throwback, look up the history of the place to see why). Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

I will say the GPS got a little confused in the route for some reason and I nearly missed an exit and even the entrance (there was some construction going on) There is plenty of parking, but the parking lot was pretty full. You walk up and either walk through the courtyard style Biergarten with tables or you can go inside. It was an unseasonably nice day, so, we opted to sit outside There is a QR code to view the menus. There are entrees and plenty of apps/sharables. There is also a very extensive beer menu. Make no mistake, this is their bread and butter. They boast an imprecise "99 beers on tap." There's local brews, light and dark beers, hoppy, Belgium style, German style, wheat, etc etc etc. if that's not your speed there are cocktails and non-alcoholic options. Our server was fantastic. She was very kind and patient with us. We were constantly checked in on, but not in a hovering way or a pressure to leave. Our food and drinks always came out in a timely manner. She made us feel well taken care of The drinks hit the spot, and the food was tasty. It was definitely a chill vibe/hang. We were there for hours just catching up, and we saw other happy hours, birthday parties, dates, bachelorette parties, etc Some tips: I did order a couple beers that they were temporarily out of, but there are so many beers to pivot to. It's been a while since have done brunch and o won't be in a hurry to return to brunch specifically The service was superb, we had a great server and he was absolutely on top of everything which was great! Beers were also great as was the mimosa I had and the kids we were with seemed to like their meals which came out last and they said theirs were hot - ours were not unfortunately. I had the Lox eggs Benedict and in retrospect should have sent it back as it was stone cold! My husband and our friend got the biscuits and gravy and also reported that they were cold - it was also served in a bowl which was a bad idea as the biscuits completely soaked up the gravy and resembled oatmeal by the time it hit the table! We got one meal - waffles and chicken to go and the waffles were inedible- poorly mixed, gritty and so much hot sauce in the mixture that they burned the back of the throat - they had to be trashed ! I love this place but won't return in a hurry for brunch - granted multiple dishes with eggs are hard to time right so we ended up with cold food that did however taste good

My main reason for trying out wild barley was because they have sour beers, it wasnt the best sour beer i have ever had, but i have noticed in Texas the sour beers have a strange taste to them that i cant quite put my finger on.
