OMG I cannot say enough good things about this place! We were in San Antonio for a conference and wanted to get out of the hotel for a dinner. Firstly, we had trouble getting an uber at first and when I called the staff was very friendly and were able to hold the table a little longer which I appreciated. The menu is a mix of Asian Fusion small plates and I would have loved to have had more of a sampling of the menu but it wasn't that large of a party. The cocktails were not too sweet and perfectly balanced. The Fist of Fury was so refreshing and the Yuzu margarita was delightful! The plates come when they are ready and I have to say the food came really quick! All of it was fantastic! Surprisingly the shredded vegetable salad was amazing and one of my favorite dishes! The tamarind glaze on the Chicken Karaage was not overpowering and so tasty. The service was amazing and the vibes of the restaurant were a lot of fun. Located right on the riverwalk it is a popular restaurant spot so make sure to get a reservation during peak times. It's a fusion of new American and Japanese. In reality it primarily American dishes with certain Asian sauces and spices. They have a pretty limited menu (see pics). I got their Short Rib Bao Buns and Furikake fries. Short Rib Bao Buns (which literally reads short rib bun buns) had jalapenos and pickled onions with the short rib inside an Asian bun. It tasted fine just don't expect any authentic asian flavors. The Furikake fries were good. I liked that they used thinner fries and were nice and crispy. Bonito lakes and Furikake were toppled on. It was rather dim inside if you like that kind of vibe. The server was pretty good though wish he came by more often to refill our drinks. For the price there are definitely better options, but if you are just looking for a decent restaurant on the Riverwalk, this one is alright. read more

The mac and cheese base used rice cakes, which I thought was an interesting take. It was okay... I think I prefer regular macaroni instead, but I appreciate the creativity. For the karage chopped salad, the actual chicken itself was very crispy. Very good. Some of the best karage I've actually had ever, so props to them. Dressing on the salad was a little bit strong. I didn't mind it because I liked the flavor, but I could see how it would be too much for some. The only issue I had was service. I don't blame my server because I think she did her job very well but the kitchen was the issue. For whatever reason, quite a few people who had ordered after me got their food before I did. I actually waited around 50 minutes just to get my food. Some tables who came in behind me got their food and paid before I even got my main entree. The NY strip steak was really good and comes medium rare. The sauce that comes with it is sweet and salty. The double cheeseburger was also really good, very greasy, very salty as well. This place was a gem!! We were lucky to be able to find a reservation for our large group on our work trip to SA. Everything had so much flavor and really complimented each other. My favorites were the krab roll (that butter sauce!!) and the bao buns. The kimchi salad doesn't actually have kimchi chunks in it, but the sauce is very delicious. For entrees, we tried the dashi corn waffle, karaage, pork belly, and shrimp noodles. The karaage and shrimp noodles were definitely a hit. You absolutely need to get a plate of the pickles, they are very unique and pair nicely with the food. We also got the side of green beans, which was one of our favorite dishes of the night. Don't forget dessert - the tres leches was absolutely delicious and not too sweet (a great thing)! Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. There was available seat with walk-in. I sat on their balcony which overlooks the Riverwalk and offered fresh air. The only downside were the flies, I was constantly fanning my hand to get rid of flies while I ate. I tried the Brisket egg roll, which was really tasty and I definitely recommend, though it costs almost as much as an entree. I didn't care for the sauce with the karaage chicken but as per the server's suggestion, I used the one from the egg roll. We came to this restaurant because they have such a great happy hour deal. It's also in such a great area of town right on the Riverwalk. I love sake and I saw they had a sake juice box. This was not the best sake I've ever had, but look how cute it was! This is a very unusual fusion restaurant...Southern American and Japanese fusion! This I HAD to try. True to its concept, the restaurant had an unusual fusion decor...with its rustic American-style tables and chairs, yet with a very Japanese-style lamps-lanterns. It also had an unusual, long layout...one side for group and paired diners, and the other for single diners (or possibly groups as well)? Very much like the Japanese ramen joints. Honestly, I didn't find this ambiance too comfortable, but it was very different. The foods were incredibly different as well. We ordered several small plates to share: Short Rib Bao Buns, Crispy Karaage Chicken, Hot Chicken Chili Dumplings, Mac & Cheese...then one of their desserts, Yuzu-Meringue Pie. For drinks, my husband had Michelob Ultra, and I tried Cobra Kai. We both agreed that the Dumplings and the Karaage Chicken tasted the best. Everything else was at the very least very interesting! I actually loved the Bao Buns...though it was very unusual tasting, due to its extra-strong, extra-sweet radish. Surprisingly, the Mac & Cheese was THE most unusual...a somewhat melted form of Mac & Cheese with a generous topping of Kimchi. We weren't too sold on the taste, but we had to agree that it was very interesting. The dessert was good, but a bit thicker than I would have preferred. I think I actually loved the drink, Cobra Kai more than anything. Not only strong, it was absolutely DEE-Lish! It was this Japanese Whiskey, with an unusual mix of Ube flavor, with Pineapple and Coconut. SO good!! Overall, we were impressed with all that they had to offer. Again, everything we tried tasted good...but more than that, everything was so uniquely fusion. No regrets choosing to try this place! The best food and dining experience I had during my visit to San Antonio. I was at the same time intrigued and skeptical of the place when ChatGPT suggested it as a dining option. Being from Honolulu we are spoiled for Japanese izakaya type places so I wasn't sure what to expect. Go for a delicious take on Japanese favorites, not to eat authentic Japanese food. The happy hour karaage (recommended by the server over the regular menu karaage) was crunchy and flavorful especially with the spicy kewpie mayo dip. The blistered green beans also super flavorful and delicious with the fried onions or negi on top. The udon was cooked well not soggy but had a nice bite. And the tres leches was moist and delicious a nice light end to a great meal. My friend said it wasn't authentic tres leches but I thought it was a good inclusion of Japanese style strawberry shortcake - light and not too sweet. My drink was mogwai's night out recommended by the server - refreshing, interesting and fun. The inside is modern and lovely, service was friendly, reservations easy online. The one negative was that I had made reservations a week before for a team dinner and then got a call a couple days before that they had a buy out of the restaurant that night so my reservation needed to be changed. This is a cozy shop with a neat bar. The seating was quite comfy. I watched through the window as a group of folks sprinted by, followed a few seconds later by a uniformed individual chasing them. However, the distraction was fleeting, and I focused on reading the menu once more. The food here is fusion. We opted for: Fist of Fury -- Rum, Lychee, Strawberry, Lime, Mint. And lots of ice. Hot Chicken Chili Dumplings -- it's described as dumplings filled with ground chicken, steamed, and served with chili oil relish. I was quite pleased with how these turned out. Thin, delicate wrappers containing chicken, along with a nice chili sauce. Think along the lines of wontons served with a slightly spicy sauce. Dashi Corn Waffle -- corn waffles topped with pork belly, grilled shrimp, Japanese BBQ sauce, Kewpie Mayo, bonito flakes. So, if you like something like okonomiyaki, you'll probably like this. Gulf Shrimp and Noodles -- grilled shrimp, vermicelli noodles, crispy garlic, shishito peppers, char siu sauce, bonito flakes. This represents a stir-fried noodle dish. Pretty standard, slightly smokey, not bad. I liked the shrimp, and I love shishito peppers, cuz you never know if you're gonna get one that'll light you up. Crispy Karaage Chicken -- tossed with tamarind-lime gastrique, furikake, serrano peppers, pickled tomatoes, cucumber, pickled squash slices. This one I thought was on the greasier side; not particularly crispy (though certain parts were crispy). I suppose that's why they were served with all the mentioned garnishes. I made sure to eat each chicken piece with some serrano pepper. The pickled squash pieces were fun, sour, and tangy, as were the tomatoes. But the chicken itself, the center part away from the sauces and other components, I felt was slightly underwhelming for a fried chicken.
