This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We waited over an hour and a half for food that never arrived, and ultimately had to cancel part of our order. The restaurant promoted showing the World Cup match, but the viewing experience was extremely disappointing. Despite advertising the event, there was only one television in the entire restaurant showing the game. Several tables ended up watching the match on their cell phones because they couldn't view it from their tables. To make matters worse, the remainder of our food took nearly two hours to arrive. Between the excessive wait times, the canceled order, and the poor event setup, the overall experience fell far below expectations. read more

The anime vibe in this Japanese restaurant and bars is super cute. Thanks for a great hangout spot with friends as they have large tables outside on their patio. Also makes for a really cute date night however, I would call ahead to see if you can make a reservation or you may risk waiting in line. Hanzo is one of our favorite date night spots. We've been fortunate to get a table almost right away most times that we make the trip out. The atmosphere is unmatched - cozy, modern, and plenty of art and anime to look at. They have screens showing anime and movies on opposite sides of the restaurant. Onto the food. Highly recommend the twice fried wings - we love the yuzu lemon pepper flavor along with the side of Lon Lon ranch. The sushi selection is great too - my husband loves ordering the dragon roll. I ordered ramen the last time we stopped by. I felt that the individual components of the bowl were great but I think the tonkotsu broth is a little too rich to really "bring it all together". I think they'd benefit from offering a shoyu-based broth. The menu is changing so they are doing away with the bao board which is disappointing! I would highly recommend Hanzo for a night out with friends or even date night! My friends and I came on a Friday night for happy hour and had a reservation. There is no host table and you seat yourself so I highly recommend making reservations if you plan on coming on the weekend because they tend to get really busy. Service is decent, however it does take a while to be acknowledged after sitting down but food/drinks came out fast after that. Our waiter also made it very easy to split the bill 6 ways when some people ordered certain things for themselves. There is a nice patio outside and they do play movies or games inside for entertainment. There is a small parking lot in the front but a bigger one hidden in the back. We ordered almost one of everything off the Happy Hour menu and enjoyed them all! On top of that, everything is super affordable for HH! My favorite things were the *agadashi tofu, *pork gyoza (not pictured), and the *nigiri. I got the 'One Punch Love' cocktail off the HH menu and thought it tasted like sweet fruity champagne. I probably would not order the spicy tuna roll again as it was drowned in too much sriracha mayo. Just a warning, the spicy edamame is also very citrusy which was okay but a bit unexpected. Hanzo is located in Alamo Heights and has Happy Hour all day Sunday, Monday & Tuesday- Saturday 4-7. I've dined here two times and it was night and day from the first visit. The atmosphere is great, drinks are great and food is mid. My first visit I ordered one drink, dumplings and a sushi roll. Service was decent and enjoyed the happy hour prices. My second visit was a terrible experience. I know it was busy but the server dropped off a menu and never returned. I asked another server for water and it never came. I decided to place my order at the bar and kept having to bring my drink/food items back to my table. Didn't mind that but would've been nice to know that from the jump. Hanzo was a very nice find for my wife and I. It's in the middle of a small business complex but it kind of adds to the ambiance of the whole experience. This place is one of my favorites when in SA. We came for a midday Saturday happy hour (3-7pm) and were able to grab bar seats. The low lighting set the perfect ambiance, and conversation among the establishment wasn't loud. For drinks, we had the spicy pina daiquiri and rhubarb g&t. Both were very refreshing, but the daiquiri stole the show! For starters we had the firecracker shrimp, which were hot, crispy and served with a perfect sweet chili sauce. Service was absolutely awful and not because it was busy, our server (Night B.) prioritized other tables and literally left while two of our three people were activity ordering I'm not exaggerating. Also he barely showed up to check on us and was rude from the start when I asked how his day was and he complained about having to close two days in a row. We went to Hanzo for sushi and chose to sit outside. The patio was a really nice setting, tucked into the middle of a building complex, giving it a cozy and hidden feel. Unfortunately, the overall experience was mixed. My wife had been looking forward to something she saw on their menu online, but when she asked about it, our waiter acted like there had never been a larger menu. Later, we overheard another server explain that they had to cut their menu down significantly, which made more sense, but still, it left us with fewer choices than we expected. To make things more limiting, the first thing our waiter told us was that they were out of four different menu items. We decided to order a few sushi rolls. Oddly, we were asked to provide a credit card right away, which felt unusual for a dine-in meal. When the sushi arrived, it all came together on one plate, even though multiple people had ordered different rolls. That said, every roll we tried was fresh, flavorful, and very well-prepared, the highlight of the visit for sure. When it came time to pay, we were not given an itemized receipt, so there was no way to confirm the charges or see if any fees were added. Overall, the sushi itself was great, but the combination of the limited menu, awkward service, and lack of transparency with the bill makes me hesitant to return, unless it's just to grab sushi to go. read more

We got there towards the end of their happy hour and the place was PACKED. Their happy hour is all day on Sunday and Monday, 3pm-7pm on Tuesday - Friday, and 5pm - 7pm on Saturday. Their happy hour includes both a drink and food, which makes sense why the place was packed. For my first time I decided to go for a bottle of wine and ordered a couple of their happy hour appetizers. I think from everything we ordered my favorite was the pork gyoza and something I would not order again is their spicy tuna roll. The pork gyoza were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The spicy tuna roll was topped with some sort of sauce that made it very sour. The menu says it's siracha but I highly doubt that is what they used. Overall, we had an amazing time and the staff was fantastic. I would definitely come back for happy hour and check out some of their other food items! read more

This is a pretty cool spot in San Antonio. You would drive right by and never know it is there. It is tucked into a little courtyard of a small commercial building. There is a big patio seating area in the cozy courtyard. The inside was dark with an Asian flair. There are TVs on both side of the room with a large wraparound bar in the middle. It is a dark and cozy space with a lounge feel. It was crowded and a little bit louder than I prefer, but nice. I sat at the bar and was greeted by Matthew. Nice guy and an artist behind the bar. He walked me through the drinks and the sushi. I settled for their Asian old fashioned. It was a decent drink with an Asian flair. It had regular ice rather than craft, but it was a good drink. I ordered the Dragon ball roll, the fire breathing roll and the 210. All were delicious and presented beautifully. Matthew asked if I wanted another drink. I said sure show me something and let him go to work. He came back with a miso caramel bourbon drink on craft ice with a lemon twist. It was perfect. It was his creation with hand made mixers. Happy hour is a really good deal. Good selection of drinks and food on the menu. The lemon pepper wings are crispy. The tofu dish and cucumber salad is good. The ribs are so tender and pull right off the bone. The potato salad that comes with it is horrible. It's just chopped potatoes and vegetables. No "binding" agent like mayo or something. The edamame with lemon pepper is unique and good. The foxtails are nice. Food comes out fast but our waiter just kinda forgot about us and we needed more drinks and he just never came so when he did we just got the check because the moment had passed. My friends and I used to love Hanzo because they have great happy hours and amazing drinks. The service could be hit or miss but we are never mad about it since it's great to see they are busy but sometimes restaurants can be short-staffed and get overwhelming which is understandable. However, the last visit we had which was on 3/30/26 was quite a letdown. Of course, they were busy so I service was slow but we understood that. The drinks were still amazing and the same as we like. The huge change that was hard to miss was the quality and portions changed significantly. We always sashimi and ramen noodle every time we go there. This time we had to return one of two yellowtail sashimi (I wanted to return both but felt bad to do so). It looked like a scrap. It's really bad. I wish I had a picture of it. It basically looked like small pieces of yellowtail that they piled it up and called it sashimi. The one we kept wasn't much better but at least they were somewhat tolerable. The size of each piece of sashimi is roughly a quarter size and not thicker that 0.5cm. I won't call that sashimi. It's sad to say that I can get a better quality and amount of sashimi when I go to all-you-can-eat places. The ramen noodle size was cut in half. It used to come with nice chunks of pork belly, not anymore. They are small, bite size pieces of pork instead. It also doesn't come with Menma (Pickled Bamboo Shoots) which was used to be in there. However, it still tasted amazing though so we ended up ordering 2 orders of the ramen noodle bowls in order to get the same amount we used to get but now we had to pay double. It's sad when you go to the place often, order the same things all the time but receive something differently. It would be nice if they increased the prices but still keep the quality and portion as it was. read more

There are so many things that stand out in Hanzo and that make it a worthwhile visit, that I decided to list them in order of popularity for me: Food: I have visited Hanzo more times than I can count. The menu has changed a bit from when I first started to now. This time around I had the steamed edamame $5, which was a fairly large portion and pork bao $9. They were both fairly good. Some of my friends complained that the bao was cold, but I had no issue with either of these items. In fact, I have always found their food to be pretty appetizing and delicious. Happy Hour: Hanko has two, a regular one, all day Sunday and Monday; 5-7 Tues - Sat, and a reverse one that starts at 11pm until closing. Drinks: Artisan cocktails with a twist that are creative, enjoyable and good. So far, my go tos are the Punch Drunk Love $6, which is a vodka fruit infused drink and the mojito $10. Anime: There are two screens playing anime all night long. It gives the place an interesting look and feel. Location: Outstanding location in the Alamo Heights area, but what makes the location stand out is that is it hidden in a small one story building, which reminds me of dr. offices. The two bartenders were constantly on their phones and just chatting with each other. My Jetsam roll lacked flavor even with shoyu and wasabi.
