Came here for lunch - loved the atmosphere, fantastic playlist and service! Could not enjoy their beers as it was a work lunch! Got the salad and pizza combo but so apparently did everyone else and with one person making the pizzas it was at least 35 minutes until we received ours and a good 20 minutes after we finished our salad - thankfully we had some time to spare! The inside is pretty chill and has a nice vibe. There's two long tables for big groups and small tables for groups of 2-4. I had the honey buffalo lemon pepper wings with ranch dip. The wings looked, smelled, and tasted great. I personally would've liked the wings to be a bit more crispy but overall they were good. The wings were tender and flavorful but lacking the kick of buffalo spice. The honey and lemon pepper came through but with a tiny amount of the buffalo flavor and more of a buffalo oil consistency. The beer flight was what will make me come back! The flight I picked had the: Come and drink it, fiesta veza, Hawaii 210, and dream juice. The come and drink it is light and easy beer to drink and true to a German style beer. The fiesta veza is a great easy Mexican lager and taste great with the lime. If you like sours you'll enjoy the Hawaii 210 and I like the sour as you can get the passion fruit and guava flavors come through. I don't like many sours but this is definitely in my top 3 favorites. The dream juice is a pleasantly nice hazy ipa. This ipa reminds me of an east coast ipa and it's quite pleasant. Tucked away off of Brooklyn Ave, Back Unturned is brewing up some award winning beer. The coffee stout is like Guinness on steroids. The Dream Juice reminds me of a more sour Purple Haze. The pizza is so good I get the same spicy Hawaiian one without ham every time. Topped with jalapenos and some kind of spicy sauce that goes perfectly with the beer. I like that you can order a flight of smaller beers that way it's easier to try different ones. If it's nice outside the lock and dam part of the river is a short walk up. read more

I've been a long time customer to this establishment and enjoyed cocktails, (no longer an option here), exceptional beer , really good wings and pizza. Recently the waiters were all changed and cocktail service ended. We've been loyal customers so we decided to give the new crew the benefit of the doubt. We decided to grab some beers and watch the end of the Spurs game. The Brewery closes at 11:00, a waiter 5 minutes earlier closed our ticket courteously because they were closing. At 10:59 an employee, supposedly a manager, behind the bar, not assisting with any closing duties, rudely said in a loud voice " We're closing and shutting off the TV" Before that was said there was 50 seconds left in the game and we were putting on our coats. I said in response "this place sure has changed." Last time I encountered such rudeness was at the restaurant Ocho, also near the Riverwalk. They are now out of business. We will not be returning, sometime in the future we will look in to see if this person is still working here (though we have not seen her do much working besides lurk behind the bar and the ladies room door. Customer service is one of foundations of of any good business, hopefully this establishment will return to it's previous standards. read more

BLUF: Great beer, great food, and great service. Highly recommend you check this place out if you're a fan of craft beer and supporting local businesses. Back Unturned is easily one of my favorite local breweries in San Antonio. Their beer is fantastic, with a few staples, and some constantly rotating innovative taps. Their most popular beer, Dream Juice, is a fruit forward hazy IPA that always quenches my thirst, and a beer I've introduced many a non-beer drinker to with very positive feedback. Their take on an Oktoberfest, Backtoberfest, has been my go to choice lately, and I'll be sad to see that keg dry up. They offer flights of beer, giving you an opportunity to sample four beers of your choice, and their beers are listed on Untappd if you're a user. Many foods pair well with beer, but perhaps none better than pizza and wings, which happens to be their primary culinary offering. They do a limited pizza almost every month, and I haven't had one that wasn't a hit. Their mainstays are delicious as well, highly recommend the Spicy Hawaiian. (Pineapple belonging on pizza is a hill I'll die on) The venue is small and very inviting, walk in and grab an open seat wherever you'd like. They're dog friendly, and this is one of my favorite local spots to bring my pup. Service is top notch, and I've always been greeted warmly by their staff, and rarely have I had to suffer an empty glass for too long. Things worth knowing ahead of time: No dedicated parking lot, but there's ample parking within a city block at either the Maker's Market lot or the lot behind their building, both of which I believe are paid. Dog friendly inside, limited outdoor seating available as well. Trivia by Live Trivia the second and fourth Mondays of the month. They used to have a full bar, but no longer offer that, limited to beer and a few wine options, beer being the obvious standout here. They offer a weekend brunch, haven't tried it yet but it's on my to-do list. read more

I've been here a couple times now, with family and friends, and the pizza is always SO GOOD. It comes out of their pizza oven fresh and hot. Of course the beers are good too, with options for everyone from ciders to beer to floats. The service is quick and friendly. (place is literally 2 people at tables and i am alone at bar) In making my move, i noticed a wood fired oven. Asked for menu, and decided to order a pizza. Disclaimer: i am native New Yorker and Italian, which makes me a pizza snob. Well let me tell ya, this pizza is LEGIT. I got the "small" round pie, which was much larger than i expected. Taste, crust, sauce, cheese toppings..perfect ratio and all so yummy! And the young lady who was the server for rest of brewery was delightful, friendly and helpful eith questions. Went here for happy hour on a Thursday evening with some of my coworkers. Staff were very friendly but with the high volume some of the drinks arrived after a lot of time. My friend ordered a drink that still didn't arrive after 20 minutes, so we asked a different server if the ETA. She didn't see it in the system so we reordered but both drinks arrived shortly after. Also I made the mistake of ordering the strawberry basil lemonade with a shot of vodka not knowing that it would be $20 for just that drink. This was very surprising because I ordered wine and a pizza earlier that totaled to the same amount. Overall the place was spacious and had card games available which made it fun. Definitely do not recommend this place. I don't reside in San Antonio but I like to give businesses a try. My grandkids wanted pizza. So I looked up a place nearby cuz we had just left Hopscotch Museum. This was on Wednesday on the month of July. The website shows that they close at 11pm. I arrived at 10pm and the host approached and told me that they had already closed the kitchen and weren't serving anymore. I was really disappointed. I even pointed out how it clearly states their hours of operation is until 11pm. But he still told us they were basically closing. There were some chairs stacked by the door. It just seemed like they don't care to have business. I should have gotten his name. I have never eaten there. I definitely won't be going again. They don't care to have customers. read more

But unfortunately they fired the one employee that was one of the main reasons we drove all the way from Stone Oak to enjoy some pizza and beer. Shawn was a real one. Always smiling , made us and everyone else feel so welcome. Knew what we liked to order, super engaging, and just made the experience more than the pizza and beer. Made the experience like hanging out with friends. I doubt we will bother to return... since the people always matter a little more than the food. It also isn't the largest venue, but they have some seating outside on the sidewalk. Beers are ok, but it would be nice to have a bit more of a variety. Pizza is pretty mediocre, if I'm being honest. But I guess I shouldn't expect more from a pizza place in San Antonio. I'd probably come back if they get something on tap that I enjoy more, but as it stands, I'd probably don't need to come back. This place was recommended to me and I decided to take my elderly mother there before a show at the Tobin center. It started off on a good foot, I loved the location and ambiance! We were brought menus by our server (won't say his name here) and he proceeded to sit down and wait for us to order...not allowing us time to review the menu. He asked why we were downtown and I shared I was taking my mom to the dallas cowboys cheerleader show and he said "oh I'd love to go see them too but I'd get in trouble with my wife" which was distasteful, in my opinion. It felt rushed and uncomfortable. We ordered a pizza and a salad with chicken. I asked for the chicken to be cold (server asked if I wanted it hot or cold) and requested no croutons. Server left, food came fast! The salad was wrong. The chicken was hot, wilted the lettuce, and it had croutons. No big deal, I just picked out the croutons and bad lettuce and put the chicken on a separate plate. The dressing was fantastic! You could tell the pizza crust was fresh. A bit too thin for my taste in the middle, causing it to be soggy, but it had great flavor. Server did not come back until we were finished. Never asked how it was, if we needed anything, etc. He picked up the pizza plate and I tried handing him my salad bowl and he left me hanging and walked away. Okie doke. We ordered a bottle of the wine to go because my mom loved it. My mom said something about putting it in the trunk and the server was like why would you put my wine in the trunk...like we were being disrespectful...and my mom said it was just safer. Maybe he was joking, but it didn't seem like it. He brings the kiosk to pay and it's on the payment screen....i asked to see what I was paying for and he said I can see after I pay. What? Lol I then was calculating the tip and thinking through taking the bottle of wine to-go off the total for the tip (because why would we tip on that) and he stood there, making me uncomfortable and rushed again, and started telling me that it's generally best to tip 25%, as if we were teenagers who have never eaten out before. He said oh well that's probably bc I work in this industry, to which my mom told him that we both have worked as servers for many years. All in all, great parking (unclear about the back lot....their instagram said it was free, but the signs say it's for Pete's restaurant only, so we parked in the front), cool atmosphere, good pizza crust, and wine. The down side was the service, feeling rushed, uncomfortable, and ultimately disrespected. I don't see us returning, but that's okay. Bar is right near the Riverwalk. Came here on a Sunday afternoon with friends and they were able to accommodate a large group. Great place to go to watch football if you want too. Their beer is available in 5.75, 10, 16 or 32 oz at reasonable price. I got their Blue Suede Shoes beer which is a blueberry sour. It was a delicious beer. Will def come back in the future to try some others. Got two pizzas as well that they cook at their brick oven. It did take a while for the food to get to us but they were cooked nicely. This brewery has bigtime party atmosphere when I was here. This seemed to be the brewery equivalent of the last bar you go to to close down the night. I do not say that as a negative though, not at all. There SHOULD be some breweries to fill that niche! There were lots of breweries on the board, from all over the spectrum. I ended up going a "beer" that amounted to an alcoholic Gingerbeer and...it was really, really good! Big bursts of spicy ginger without any sweet or cloying flavors. Small, intimate, but awesome beer lineup. Brews rotate with the seasons but I had the Biily Goat IPA. Very tasty. Vats on display. Was very tempted by the 1 lb of wings offering, but opted for the Campagnola pizza. Excellent! Baked just right. Atmosphere is excellent with rock music that doesn't suck. Staff is great. Pia knows her beer, can offer suggestions, and an all around nice person. The only downside is the place is small and there's only 1 TV. The beer was vey good - I had a flight, and found most of them really excellent. I do like dark beer, but found the Jorts brew a little medicinal for my taste. You really couldn't go wrong though.
