Barbaro has always been a great happy hour spot, so I was disappointed by my experience today. I was told a table would be available in about 45 minutes, and I had no problem waiting. Usually, the bar seating is first come, first served. However, today there were two reserved spots at the bar, and the bartender was actively clearing anyone who tried to sit in them. What was more frustrating was watching the seating situation while I waited. There were three booths and two tables being held with reserved signs, yet during the almost hour I spent waiting, no one sat at any of those tables. I completely understand having reservations and managing seating accordingly, but it was difficult to understand why so much seating was being held while guests were waiting. If those tables were reserved for a specific time, it would have been helpful to have some communication about that. I've enjoyed Barbaro in the past, which is why I wanted to share this feedback. Hopefully the seating process can be made a little clearer and more accommodating for guests waiting to be seated. read more

Happy hour was hopping. The place was packed and tables were hard to come by. Fortunately, my friend managed to snag and hold a table for us inside so we didn't melt in the heat. Starting off with the garlic knots. Sure they looked a little furry, but that was what made them incredible. So flavorful and cheesy. The marinara sauce is divine. Amazing pizza. The flavor, the crisp, the chew. Everything about it was delicious. The service was very slow. Interesting considering how busy they were. The girlies and I had a GNO, we had several drinks, pizza, Caccio e Pepe gnocchi and Caesar salad. The drinks were all so great. We started off with a mojito, then tried the frozen coffee, and had a great time dining and talking about life. We tried the spicy pizza and my gosh it was spicier than the depths of the furthest corners of the layers between the earth's mantle and hell. We had to send it back. It took quite a while for our server to come over and take our order, and then we waited more than 10 minutes just for ranch. I eventually had to remind our server about it. The ranch also had a different flavor than what we're used to, almost lemony or pickle-like?? Some people might enjoy it, but it just wasn't for us. There were also a couple of flies inside, which was a little annoying while we were eating. To be fair, customers kept holding the door open as people were coming in, so I don't think that was entirely the restaurant's fault. Maybe adding an air curtain or fan near the entrance could help keep them out. Second time here was great once again. We made a reservation for 5 pm on a Saturday (highly recommend making reservations) and we got seated right away. It was during their happy hour which is everyday from 4-6 pm. I had two of their frozen French coffees which were delicious. I could have had ten of those. Went here for a date night on a Thursday. Highly recommend making a reservation and coming here during happy hour. If you don't have a reservation, good luck finding a table. Pizzas are half off and cocktails (frozen and classic) were only $6 for happy hour! We wanted to try the lamb sausage because it was unique and it did not disappoint. You have the umami and gamey-ness of the lamb which was nicely complemented by goat cheese, olives and caramelized onions. Slices were also NY-style and my wife and I left so content! My son and I finally had our schedule matched to celebrate Mother's Day and he couldn't have picked a better place! While I was wondering why we had to drive downtown for pizza---well it wasn't just another pizza place. This is the cutest pizzeria in such an adorable area of town. The building itself is so well restored with penny tile and exposed brick and beams. We came for a spontaneous date night so we didn't make a reservation. The host sat us outside (we really should've pushed for the bar, but wasn't sure if they'd serve us pizza there) And for a summer evening, this patio was the worst! It had some plant wall decor that was hosting some bugs, we had mosquitoes and flies all over! My server saw me scratching away until she finally offered some OFF bug spray. They sat us at the one table that the overhead fan wasn't facing. Luckily we came with a few handheld fans to use on ourselves. Once the food came out we were fighting for our lives with the flies! Y'all can't get some citronella candles out here??? Our waiter told us we could cover the pizza with a napkin, but they'd still try to sneak up under there. I can't believe it took me this long to visit Barbaro. First of all, the location - I adore this side of town. It's cute, historic, and just overall a great place for visual eye candy. Barbaro is dimly lit with enough indoor and outdoor space to accommodate a good crowd on a Saturday night. They have happy hours in the afternoons, where we got half-off pizzas and drinks. I ordered an old fashioned. It was a little sweet, so it took me a good while to finish it, and it was pretty watered down by the time I was done with it. For some starters, I ordered a charcuterie board, but didn't realize adding cheese and included a $10 upcharge until I got my bill. Hot honey was also an up charge, but not nearly as shocking. My friend ordered garlic knots for the table and they were soft and fluffy. Very tasty. The group ordered two white-sauce pizzas: the carbonara and the clams casino. I only tried the latter and it had a very pleasant kick. (I even drizzled some hot honey on it and it was fantastico!) Our waitress was pretty great. Service was exceptional. The bartenders only talk to each other and "certain" customers. Literally had to flag down the bartender to come take our order. And a separate time, another "preferable" customer had to wave down the bartender for us at one point.
