This brewery is in a run-down area so I was a bit apprehensive to try it. Even when pulling up to the building it's a bit unassuming but this is the definition of don't judge a book by its cover. The inside has a funky gothic vibe to it. The staff were super helpful and welcoming. The beer was great but the best thing about our visit was the pizza - holy crap was it good. Freetail Brewing is a great casual place to gather with friends. The variety of brew is delightful. The servers are super helpful whether your table is inside or on the patio. Lots of food choices. Our group generally orders a bunch of shareables. I highly recommend their different pizzas, the scrumptious nachos, the amazing goat cheese and artichoke dip, and the big pretzel. Others have ordered a great fresh salad or philly steak sandwich, both of which were great. Freetail even offers a couple yummy soup options. Thursday night is Trivia night and it can be lots of fun. We had a great event here at Freetail. I had no idea they had this venue available, but my teammate found this place and had plenty of parking, plenty of indoor space and plenty of beer. Our server here checked on our group continuously and made sure that the beer kept flowing. I started with a 401k Pils, but switched to a sour, the Texas Bexarliner - which was delicious. If you like beer and pizza, this place is for you. We tried the Supreme Batastrophe and the Hawaiian pizzas. Both were good. My kids enjoyed grilled cheese and fries, and then found out they had mac and cheese and ordered and destroyed one of those. Plenty of merch available and the indoor decor is full of skeletons. There were other groups that came in to hang out, and looked pleasant and happy to do so. It's open so it can get a bit loud, but nothing too disturbing. Great little brewery off I35 and friendly staff. Not what you would expect on the outside. The food was great and had a good variety of options for such a small kitchen. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was not busy at all. Tried a few beers and had an Italian sandwich for lunch. The pizza looked good though. Favorite beer was the Helles Lager but the Blonde was great too. Will definitely be back next time in town to try more. read more

We had been to Freetail before for beer but had never tried their food. After walking over 6 miles on the San Antonio river trail in scorching heat and humidity, we needed to rehydrate with some electrolytes. Recognizing our exhaustion from the walk, our waitress promptly seated us in the coolest area of the room and provided refreshing ice waters to rehydrate. Her attentiveness throughout our visit was remarkable, and we absolutely loved her! Our thirsts were quenched with beer; my personal favorite is Bat from Helles, and my husband's was the Conserveza. To accompany the drinks, we ordered the club Cobb Salad and Greek salad with an additional gyro for $3. It turned out to be one of the best salads I've ever had! The club salad had tender and lean chicken breast, along with eggs, bacon bits, avocado, and fresh lettuce. My Greek salad was phenomenal! The gyro meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, complemented by thick chunks of feta, tomatoes, red onions, and fresh romaine, without being overloaded with dressing. The batastrophe pizza is excellent! We always order the batastrophy pizza, Greek salad and Mac and cheese kids plate. Their beer is good but I honestly come more for the food and super friendly staff. I am one of those parents with a toddler but I keep him close or take him outside to get energy out. It is possible to have a toddler at a brewery who is not losing their mind and out of control. If he does start to have a meltdown we know it's time to go. It's my neighborhood brewery and has all the friendly feels. Check it out when you are looking for good food and a beer. read more

Funky brew pub - all their own brews on constant rotation. The ones I've had are very good to excellent. Besides beers , they have a sizable selection of wines, ciders and meads. They have decent bar food (I like the pretzel which includes a great cheese sauce, and a very *funky* horseradish/mustard dip) and serve a full menu of salads, soups, sandwiches, pizza and feature a "lunch special". They even have a "NY Style Cheesecake". I am rating them a solid five stars because of the brew quality and variety and quality (from my limited experience) for a place of its type. It is a typical brew house or pub with a somewhat industrial (its in an old factory or warehouse) and a funky, youthful, grunge-like decor. It is certainly not five-stars refined dining, but is exactly what you expect. Service is very good, too. I keep coming back partly because it's close to home, but mainly because it delivers on what I am here for - good beer and decent bar food in a funky style! read more

I love it here! We came back in Sept 2023 after a day at the zoo! We were immediately greeted by Sam! He took our order, was attentive and polite. Always checkin on us and making sure everything was good. The food was amazing! The pizza is great, that crust is delicious and I'm not a crust person! Here I AM. Ever since we have been back for Eclipse Viewing! We had pizza once more early in the morning lol and chips with brisket cheese! YALL got to try that! We came back again last night! I've been seeing this place and finally was able to check it out for the yoga and pour on Friday night. The yoga was so good! Although it was toasty, it was a really good class. And the beer afterwards was the cherry on top! I've tasted FreeTail before at a few spots around SA, so I knew I liked their beer. The IPA, 401k, was . Easy to drink. Hops flavor on point. I've noticed every year more and more events are being planned specifically around, "Dia De Los Muertos." There are food, drink and now the city's first river parade to celebrate it. So why not an event named after a local craft beer? Well the Freetail Brewing Co. has been doing one for a decade named after you guessed it, a seasonal beer. It's called "La Muerta", a much sought after stout in the craft beer circle. I have been wanting to do this event for years but like Pat Benatar says, "Life's what happens when you make other plans." Needless to say I bought general admission tickets for $30 bucks and some change. The price includes a sample glass, eight tickets for 8 small pours and a bottle of "La Muerta." Initially when I came I was anticipating a full house. Instead the crowd was at a manageable level, you could freely maneuver through. In keeping with the theme there were artisan's booths, mariachis and people dressed in elaborate costumes. In the main area where the brewing tanks are stationed a sample pouring table is set up. They had different variants of "La Muerta" alongside beers pulled from their cellar. Looking at the sample glass and the size of the pours one assumes if the price merits what's served. However the samples are deceptively strong and sneak up on you. By my fifth pour I was feeling as limber as a ghost. My only critique is in the seating arrangements. There were little to no available tables once it was in full swing. Even the usage of communal benches limits the spacing of this event. Next year they need to increase possible seating or allow you to bring your own chairs. In addition whole pours were not being sold if you enjoyed a specific variant. I thought this was kinda lame but not a dealbreaker. I know that a limited supply of barrels are created for the festival. I hope next year they will reconsider allowing you to buy limited snifter sized pours. Having said all these things this festival is still unique. The crowd are all stout- hounds who want to taste a beer that is here from a short time, then is gone. It almost seems like a metaphor for life. Ok I'll stop my Waldo Emerson stylings, at least for now. If you wanna try something different and you love local craft beer like myself go seek this event. It happens only once a year. Don't forget to leave a drink for your loved ones. Hopefully one day someone will return the sentiment back. read more

One of my new favorite places! I love this casual, clean, and very creative space. I took the brewery tour and loved all the detail that the brewer went over. They have amazing specials, especially if you are in the mug club. The pizzas and pretzels are on point. The only dish I have found lacking is the nachos. This review is for the BREWERY near SouthTown, NOT the restaurant on 1604. The seating area is spacious but still gets packed by early afternoon on weekends. Not only can you get the regular Freetail brews here, but they're also serving a handful of Ghost Pixel brews. Ghost Pixel is a collaboration between Chaos By Design and Weathered Souls Brewing Company. I'm not sure how they ended up in the Freetail Brewery, but hey, it'll give you a reason to head down there, enjoy some cold suds, and find the answer for yourself. Brewery tours at 3p and 5p on Saturdays. You can purchase beer to go in 4 packs, 6 packs, and 22 oz bottles. Growler refills are $9 for the Freetail brands, $14 for the Ghost Pixel brands. They offer some merchandise for sale, t-shirts, pint glasses, glass growlers, and river safe metal growlers. Every 1st Saturday is comedy night and they usually have other events going on the other Saturdays of each month. Another cool thing they do is bring in local businesses for events called "pop-ups." They brought in a local gourmet popcorn place called Pink's Popcorn a while back. You could purchase a "flight" of various popcorn flavors and they were also giving away $5 gift cards to their stores. There's a locally owned cupcake company scheduled for an upcoming pop-up, so get out there and check them out. Check Freetail's website for their calendar of events for details on the Saturday events as well as the pop-ups. TIP: Drive slow if you have to park in the side parking lot. We came here a few months back after a trip to Sea World. Beer was great. Staff was friendly and although we just got appetizers we had no complaints. My husband took a few six packs home and raved about them. Stopped in for a quick visit after another trip to Sea World. The Velociraptor was delicious and I got a Cobb salad with it. Salad was awesome and I literally ate it all even with intentions to only eat half. Definitely recommend this place. Getting some more six backs to go as well. read more

Came here to watch the Super Bowl with a few friends. The place is amazing. With a view of the brewery in the back. Workers there were very friendly. I think their name was Orlando? Visited Freetail yesterday for the annual 5K Beer Run. This place is great! All their note worthy store available beer plus all their other delicious ones are available on tap here. Clean restrooms and a/c available too (big plus for anyone really, right?). Inside they have a list of events for the month posted on the hand written board at the bar. Glasses and pints of beer range from $4-5/serving. Growlers and commemorative glasses/growlers available for purchase. No food made here which could be really great. Food trucks available outside so I'd bring a snack or eat before. Tables are long picnic style that make community style seating preferred. Really enjoyed this brewery. Came with a group of Yelpers on Sunday afternoon of Yelp Spring Break on a trek of several breweries that day and we spent the most time here. The beers were good, the atmosphere is fun with a graffiti/dia de los muertos theme running through the building. We did not tour, but just drank. They did not have food, but they did have some comp popcorn which was MUCH appreciated! I need just a little bite to go with my beer! In town for a work retreat, and stopped off here after dinner. We were only able to stay for an hour or so, but from what I saw, this place is super cool. You can order a flight of any 6 beers on tap, I recommend the dark saison, it was delicious, and different than anything I've had before. The space itself had a warehouse type feel, picnic benches setup for seating, and games like a giant connect 4. Overall pretty similar to a lot of the breweries I hang out at in San Diego. read more
