Dorrego's offered a great overall dining experience. The mojitos were excellent -- well-balanced, refreshing, and definitely a highlight. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, and service throughout the meal was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Once seated, everything felt smooth and enjoyable, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it a nice spot for a casual meal or drinks. The main challenge was simply finding the restaurant, as it is located inside the hotel and not clearly visible or well-marked from the outside. It took extra time and asking around to locate it, which took away slightly from the start of the experience. Better signage or clearer directions would make a big difference for first-time guests. Despite that, once inside, it was absolutely worth it and we would return again for the drinks and food. read more

I seriously can't wait to come back and try more from this place. I started with the provolone appetizer, which was pretty great and very rich. My only complaint is that it was a bit difficult to eat because of how thick the cheese was. For my entree, I went with the NY strip, and it was phenomenal! The meat was incredibly tender and juicy. The potatoes and asparagus were cooked to perfection, and the confit was very flavorful without being overpowering. For cocktails, I chose the Ginger Gaucho, which was truly delicious, highly recommend. I also ordered their blackberry mocktail, which others had recommended, and it was great! Service was exceptional, and my water glass never went empty. My server was very friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant; it was casual, elegant, and cozy. What a gem! A romantic restaurant in a classy hotel overlooking the Riverwalk... The professionalism of the staff was extraordinary, and the hostess was extremely welcoming. Their homemade bread is just to die for! I really enjoyed dining at a place that is very quiet, well lit and beautifully decorated. We tried the steak bites as an appetizer and the burger as our main course and both were not only flavorful, but also just out of this world delicious! Before my flight home my friend & I stopped in for a light breakfast. Located inside the Hotel Valencia, Dorrego's is a stylish eatery that serves Argentinian inspired food. Much like the hotel, the décor is beautiful and the patio dining provides a charming view of the River Walk, especially at night. There was a bit of a wait for a table, but the lovely bartender Michelle invited us to have a seat at the bar. We each had a glass of Veuve Clicquot (because I'm bougie like that) and a side of fresh fruit. It was the perfect breakfast. All that was missing was the caviar. Had a great experience! This was my first time at this restaurant because downtown parking gets intimidating to me but this was easy. It's in a great part of downtown with lots of parking garages but the hotel also valets if you spend over $60. The staff was so attentive and allowed us time to figure out the menu. And our food was great. Everything came out hot and tasted fresh. My chicken sandwich was juicy and my fries were crispy on the outside but pillowy on the inside. My favorite part was the dessert. It was indulgent but also not a heavy dessert. This is a must visit and I can't wait to be back when Christmas decorations are up! read more

Stopped in Sunday evening for happy hour: the restaurant wasn't open and no happy hour, but the bar had a smaller food menu so we decided to check it out. Really glad that we did. The restaurant and bar are inside a beautiful hotel that doesn't have a bar seat in the house. Outdoor seating above the river walk as well. We all had something to eat and a cocktail or two. Food was delicious and the cocktails were really good. Tim was the bartender and he took good care of us. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and a couple El Caballero drinks. Enjoyed everything. I saw the deal with Dorrego's for the complimentary bottle of wine and appetizer. Dad had Lemonade and Hubby and I had the Argentinian Cabernet Sauvignon. We shared the Ensalada de la Casa (house salad). Dad and I shared the Paella a la Marinera. Hubby had the Dorrego's Burger. We all shared the dessert, Chocolate Cremoso. Absolute trash restaurant. The place had 6 customers and we stood for 15 minutes while the staff ignored us while waiting to be seated. Then they finally seat us and never come back. 30 minutes and we barely got water. We never even saw the waiter ever again. Located in valencia hotel sort of on the second floor of the staircase, they advertised a 16.95 paella deal from 11am-4pm so you know I had to try it. The place setting and atmosphere are classy yet open. The staff is friendly and open to any requests especially since we seemed to go at a quiet time. The paella is featured in the front where they have a chef and a self service station, and yes you can get everything so it does make a banging deal. The paella was more than enough to feed 2 people, I appreciate the chefs patience and generosity, however, I wouldn't really call this good paella. The seafood kinda missed the mark, but the sausage had great flavor. The vegetables were nice and fresh. But as someone who's rice is their staple food, that rice was raw and had no saffron flavor. The broth was also overly salty and my favorite part- the crust was amiss. So while in hopes of a great deal, I would sadly not recommend it, but I appreciate the staff nonetheless. We also got the choripan, the fries are on the thicker dryer side. The choripan had a great flavor profile, though while I expected a green chimchurri turned out to be a slightly spiced red pepper vinegered sauce. As the bun is a basic hot dog potato bun, it did get quite soggy so I would recommend a different bun, but overall the sausage paired well with the sauce. Overall, good atmosphere for catch ups and casual. Stick with more Argentinian food. read more

We can't for Easter brunch and they had a pretty standard water brunch buffet setup. I think compared to other Easter brunches the cost was comparable. There was a carving station, made to order omelets & waffles, salads, charcuterie, and entrees. Everything was good but nothing was a huge stand out. To me the best items were the red velvet waffles, mashed potatoes, and almond cake. I liked that the champagne and mimosas were included in the cost but I wish our server was a bit more attentive. Overall the staff was nice and the hotel is gorgeous. At check in for the restaurant there are glass oranges signed by famous people which is pretty cool. The service was not the best i really hate when waiters rest the pitcher on my glass when doing refils its so unsanitary. The french toast was raw and super soggy. Dorrego's is one of those restaurants that seems like a good idea, until it isn't. I was craving a visit since I saw their Culinaria Restaurant Week menu. So when a friend invited me to meet there, I gladly agreed. Big mistake. I'll start by saying that the place was gorgeous. Beautifully decorated with that cozy Christmas feel. It made me want to lounge in their lobby. At our arrival, we were served a complementary glass of wine, which seemed an elegant touch, so I was ready to be impressed. And then I opened their menu. They had about five entrees, all at over $20 dollars each. I was expecting this, as Dorrego's is part of the Valencia hotel, and hotel restaurants are pricey, y'all! But five entrees and all over $20...hmm, not sure that's worth a visit. Now, let's talk portions, shall we?! I took the plunge and ordered a chicken breast with potatoes and vegetables at $22 dollars, very high for just chicken. But not only was this mega expensive, the breast came with a bit of the wing bone and wasn't a complete chicken breast. It was a piece of skin with, maybe four bites of meat. I kid you not! I'm not even sure this was supposed to be served. It looked so meager, that as the waitress picked up the plate, she took a look at it and knew something was off. When asked how my meal was, I told her about the portion. Which brings me to the positive part of Dorrego's, the service, or more specifically, our server. Our waitress was amazing. Friendly, helpful, and efficient. When I told her about my meal, she instantly told me she would mention it to the kitchen. She came back with an offer of a 25% discount. Personally, I think that given the meal I was served, it should have been free. But I was appreciative of her initiative to solve it. Kudos to Dorrego's service. As for the rest, forget it! Unless they get a clue and serve better portions, have a larger menu selection and some food items below $20 dollars, this place is off my return list. Visited during Restaurant Week Sept 2021. Long story short this is the perfect place for a date although there may be minor hiccups with the food. To start, they validate Valet parking which eliminates concerns of parking/walking downtown. Located in the Valencia Hotel the ambiance is lovely with dim lights and water fountain in the entrance. We waited about five minutes to be met at host stand for our reservation. However, host/server Antonio quickly put my friend and I at ease. I was there with my girlfriend but thought it would make a great date due to the rustic decor serving up Hotel Emma type vibes. Antonio brought a free sample of Malbec which was a nice touch along with bread and butte while we perused the menu. I ordered the $45 Restaurant Week 3 course option described as a grilled cheese appetizer with pesto and sundries tomato and crostini bread. I was actually a cheese flambé that was an exciting start to the meal and very good. Antonio brought a selection of steak knives to choose from for my steak which was different but another special little touch. My medium rare NY strip steak was cooked perfectly although not as tender as expected. But flavor was fantastic. The chocolate pot de cream was a nice ending. My friend had the salmon with roasted potatoes and asparagus and she raved about her meal. I would definitely return for the ambiance and experience. They seemed short staffed but Antonio provided excellent service. He focused on making sure we were happy and treated us like he owned the place (maybe he did). We had an excellent experience at Dorrego's in the Hotel Valencia. The hotel itself has such a wonderful vibe and the ambience at Dorrego's is relaxed and not overly formal. The empanadas were amazing as was the soup. The paella was traditional and easily large enough for two to share. It was slightly bland and the chicken a little dry, but overall, it was pretty good. We also gave the homemade white chocolate ice cream a try, and it did not disappoint. The value here was also great compared to other restaurants in the downtown area. The service was amazing as the entire staff was attentive and committed to giving us a great experience. There were several other menu items I wanted to try, and I can't wait to return! read more

The quality of the food was DEFINITELY NOT worth the high price of the product. I ordered a steak medium rare plus. It came out rare. Sent it back and came back medium. Ok, fine it is what it is. But, the flavor and quality of the meat was subpar at best. The flavors and textures of all our foods from appetizers to entrees was below average. Made a reservation for Mother's Day brunch for myself, my husband and our two children under 2. Arrived at 10:45 to check in for our 11 am reservation, was informed we were early but would be greeted and seated in 15min. 11 am came and went, no one greeted us. I return to the host stand and was brushed off and told to "wait in line like everyone else" I waited for 30 min in line before my husband flagged down the original host to ask what the issue was. At this time in line there were 200 other guests bottle necked at the front door. Once we were escorted to our table it was a small two top table crammed into a corner of an empty dining room. We requested high chairs at the time of reservation. We were then left standing for an additional 20 min before being sat on the other side of the restaurant. The food was mediocre at best and a very small selection. I've been a chef for 12 years and absolutely have never seen anything quite this embarrassing. Absolutely horrible!! read more

It was a little blend, but it's not my usual drink so I'm not sure if that's the way it's suppose to taste. I ended up ordering my usual with four roses . It was perfect! Once we sat at the table I ordered a Charcuterie Board. It had all the goodies. The kiddos devoured it. All four kids had a burger of some sort. I had the seafood paella. It was pretty good, but I've had better paella at a local restaurant in (spring,Tx) it was pretty blend and the secret is in the saffron sauce. The waitress was very attentive and so sweet. This is a cozy Argentinian steakhouse one block from the Majestic Theater. Our server made excellent recommendations- including a taste of the recommended wine for each person in our party. We shared empanadas and paella for appetizers. The empanadas had nice flavor with the chimichurri sauce that came with them. The paella was packed with seafood - scallops, muscles, shrimp and clams. It was tasty, but didn't have much spice. The rolls that came with the meal, however, had a surprising dusting of chili flakes - they were hot and yummy. I shared the tomahawk steak with my husband and son. It came with roasted potatoes, sautéed onions and mushrooms with bacon (!!) and broccoli with Parmesan. It was all fantastic! The steak was tender and had a nice smoky flavor. It came with 4 choices of sauces - but I stuck with the blue cheese because it was so good! The vegetables were flavorful and cooked perfectly. I'm not a huge fan of cooked broccoli- but this was good. An added perk for this restaurant is free valet parking - which was handy for doing a matinee show then dinner - especially at Christmas time on the Riverwalk. read more

Restaurant week brought us to Dorrego's. We were not disappointed. The stew was so flavorful, hearty and delicious. It is reminiscent of a chili with less meat and navy beans instead of kidney beans. The chicken....I typically do not order chicken out. It's a rule of mine to not order something I can make at home. But this was very different. The side dishes were perfection. And the sauce, delectable and scrumptious. The chicken was very juicy and tender. The skin was a little salty for my taste, but overall, a very hearty dish. I would order it again. It should be noted that I typically do not order dessert because I am usually full by that point and I try to avoid the extra sugar. But part of the experience of restaurant week is the dessert. So I make an exception. With that said, the STAR of this meal is the chocolate mousse. There is orange zest that I was not expecting, but it added a very bright and delightful flavor to the dish. It also provided a bit of texture to the smoothness of the dish. Five stars on the dessert. I would come back JUST for the dessert. read more

One our first nights in San Antonio, my partner and I planned an evening for us and his parents to go to this restaurant on the river. We were seated inside, which we were hoping to be outside on the river. Our waiter kept offering us red wine, which wasn't necessarily any of our tastes. He brought us glasses of it, which I'm not sure if we wound up paying for (I never saw the bill). We got a steak, which we ordered medium rare, and it came out totally blue inside. The Easter Buffet: walking in to the ballroom/dining room, the lighting was so bright that you could perform surgery. I asked for a grapefruit mimosa and was served a cranberry mimosa. The stations were beautiful! The salads, vegetables, and carving stations, nothing was good. The prime rib was flavorless and super chewy. The ham was thin and like shoe leather. The Brussels sprouts hard as a rock, carrots were very fibrous, asparagus gray and stringy, mashed potatoes were cold and hard. I did not have the cold seafood bar or the omelet station. The carrot cake and almond cake were delicious. The 2nd mimosa was made correctly but warm. I was super excited about this and seriously disappointed. read more

I was really excited to come here because my FIL kept hyping it up and saying how he can't wait to come back and eat the empanadas and steak. I have never been here, but he's eaten here a couple times when he visited San Antonio last. The environment and ambiance were great. I love the decorating and vibe of the place! The menu is small which isn't a bad thing because that means that usually they've perfected all the dishes! To start, we ordered the empanadas and the fiery cheese dip (totally blanking on what it's called). I love chimichurri and was excited for that with the empanadas, but I guess Argentinian chimichurri is different from Brazilian. I was expecting a green chimichurri sauce, but this one looked like hot chili oil you get from Asian restaurants lol. The empanadas were fine IMO, nothing to write home about. Same with the cheese dip. But I usually don't like cheese dips like that. The empanadas had a familiar spice to it, almost like five spice, but I couldn't put my finger on it. For my entree, I ordered the ribeye and this is where I became super disappointed. What came out was a NY strip. My husband ordered the same thing: a ribeye, but he also got a NY strip. We maybe thought that the waitress misheard us, and he tried to be super subtle about his disappointment. He asked for the menu to check if maybe we got the NY strip, but the sides we got matched the ones for the ribeye. I've eaten and cooked enough ribeyes myself to know what we got was NOT a ribeye lol. Despite the fact what we received was a NY strip, I will say it was cooked a perfect medium rare. The sides that came with the steak were subpar. It was just broiled broccoli with some cheese on it and cubed sweet potatoes with a strange glaze that tasted almost bitter? Not sure if that's how it's supposed to taste... Service was great, but I wouldn't come back here. I think the thing with hotel restaurants is that they're always fancy-looking with the price tag attached, but the food is never that great. read more

So, the restaurant should have been prepared for our arrival but it was obvious that they weren't. Through out dinner so many things went wrong. We were served the wrong food. our food was overcooked & some of the sides were even wrong. By the time some of us received our steaks that were ordered RARE, everyone else was done eating. That doesn't make any sense. It takes about a min - 2 mins at most to make a rare steak. Yet, it took over 20 mins to arrive after it had been sent back. We thought maybe only our end of the table had experienced the disaster but nope... our friends at the other end of the table were having the same issues. We were definitely expecting a wonderful dining experience but instead were just left w a very large bill for disappointing food. Do yourself a favor.... Avoid this restaurant. I have to admit that my expectations going in were a little low,a but I was never so happy to be wrong! Located on the second floor of a gorgeous hotel (definitely want to check out staying here), Dorrego's is a Spain meets Argentina restaurant. We walked into a lobby with a fountain, marble and cast iron railing that looked like it was our of a scene from Zorro. Going up to the second floor, you begin to hear gorgeous, traditional flamenco music being played from the tequila and mescaline bar located directly across from the restaurant. We were seated promptly and as we walked past the bar, I spied a delicious looking cocktail expertly made by the bartender. I ordered the margarita but caution to the faint of heart - it is spicy! Which I personally, LOVE. We ordered the chorizo as an appetizer which I cannot recommend enough! The salsa was simply divine and we played the guessing game of "What's in it?" To see if I could recreate it at home. I ordered the chicken with a a bountiful, heaping aide of vegetables! The chicken itself was delicious my only change would be that the pan jus would be more flavorful. Dessert was no disappointment either. We order the fruit dessert served with lemon curd.
