It was our 28th wedding anniversary and I wanted to treat my wife to a nice dinner. We normally go to Ruth Chris, but I wanted to try a different steakhouse this year. Once we arrive at the restaurant we were greeted like VIPs. We were asked a few times if we were there for a special occasion and I mentioned we were there for our anniversary. We were congratulated and that was it. No other "special" treatment or offers because it was our anniversary. The service, the food, and the overall atmosphere were great. No complaints at all. My only issue was this, as we were preparing to pay the bill, a couple (white couple) was seated next to us and they were asked if they were there to celebrate a special occasion, and she said, "it's our anniversary" and the waiter then offered them a complimentary bottle (or glasses) of champagne! Wait, what??? I thought to myself, nobody offered us (a black couple) any complimentary champagne. A different person came to the table to take my credit card and I asked him about it. He did apologize and offered to bring us a couple of glasses of champagne but it was too late. We were done eating/celebrating and it was time to go home. I was 3 weeks from recovering from heart surgery and this was my first time out in the public to eat since my surgery and I didn't want to let not getting a bottle or glass of champagne ruin my evening with my Queen. Wow, what an amazing experience. If you are looking for an elevated night out in town this is the place. I must start off mentioning the amazing service. These people are on point! Everyone was kind and friendly (except for the hostess downstairs who was rather dismissive). Sat upstairs for dinner on a Sunday in the beautiful front sunroom. The entire second floor is gorgeous and feels elevated compared to the first floor. To start off they serve you bread with a pickled jalapeno cream cheese dip which was the chef (owner?) mother's recipe. So good. I had the lamb chops which were devine. I really think this has changed hands, new owners so different. 6 of us, all women going to a show at the majestic across the street. We used the valet parking. $ new price was 10$ plus tips . Now $20 plus tip and must be done on line through text message. We sat,orders were pretty basic ribeye steaks, scallops and the Chateaubriand for 2 ( which has increased in price by 60$). The Ribeye was full of flavor and overall was a very good steak. The shrimp was some of the best shrimp I've had. The seasoning was impeccable, it was juicy, and tasty. For sides, we had the Baked Potato and Broccoli. The potato was a 10/10 and you were able to add more or less of what you wanted with the do it yourself style. I loved it! The broccoli was cooked great it was just very saturated in a pool of olive oil. Finally, dessert was a huge highlight and I loved every single bite. We got the Triple Chocolate Double Fudge Brownie. It was like eating a molten lava cake as a brownie. It was soft, gooey, chocolatey, fudgey, and everything you would want from a brownie and so much more. We celebrated my mother's 87th birthday at Bohanan's last night, and the entire evening was defined by elegant, refined service. The staff was incredibly attentive throughout our meal, ensuring every detail was taken care of. The manager even took the time to come by our table for a wonderful visit, and when it was time to leave, went above and beyond by walking with us and waiting at the elevator to ensure our departure was smooth and comfortable.The cuisine was equally spectacular. Bohanan's is the last name of the chef in Owner and was established in 2002. The building itself has some great history and I believe I was told this latest one is the third owner. Everyone we met last night took such great care us. Dave, Logan, Zander, Alex and Maya, what a team. I love the starter with the homemade jalapeño jelly, cream cheese, and Lil crunchy toast. The hostess was kind and gave us the option of their bar area or their main dining. We chose to stay in the bar area. They have two menu options for both areas. I was out for a night of fun with the fellas and as soon as we walked in the door, we were met with smiling faces and a warm welcome from all of the staff. The waitress was very thorough in explaining all the different cuts of meat they had and made decision making easy. Sides are shareable and are made of high quality ingredients, all flavors were on point. It was also very nice of them to have 3 waiters bring out our 3 steaks all at the same time, a very nice touch that was appreciated. After many positive experiences here from bar visits to company executive dinners over the past 15+ years, my visit this week was extremely disappointing. Despite not being busy at all, I sat at the bar to have a drink and dinner, but was largely ignored until I finally flagged someone down. The two bartenders seemed entirely uninterested in serving me. I could see them taking note of me out of the corner of their eyes, but every time they walked by, they seemed to go out of their way to not make any sort of eye contact or acknowledgment. I don't know if I looked too young, or I if was dressed too casually to be considered worth their time - although I was wearing a collared shirt, so who knows. I ended up having a single cocktail and leaving to have dinner elsewhere. It's sad how one experience like this can really take the luster off of a place that you've built up for so long. Although I've been to Bohanan's plenty of times and the food is always impeccable, this time I went because one of my favorite jazz bands were playing there. I went with a friend to catch the Christmas vibes of Johnny P and the Wiseguys along with Bohanan's always fantastic cocktails. From the minute we stepped into the restaurant we felt special. We were directed to the elevator to the second floor where we were greeted by name. The ambiance created a truly elegant dining experience; waiters dressed in suits, quiet music playing, aged wood floors, view to the lighted courtyard below and space between the tables so you didn't feel crowded. The sorbet for cleansing our palate before the entre was a lovely surprise. We split the 11 oz filet that was cooked to perfection (topped with a Burgundy mushroom sauce) and had an incredible flavor. The asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and goat cheese mashed potatoes were delicious. All was paired with a smooth wine. The chocolate brownie with cinnamon ice cream, berries and whipped cream was the perfect ending to an incredibly delicious meal.
