We chose Silo Prime for our Valentines dinner and I am so glad we did. I love that they have valet parking and a bar outside of the restaurant that is so cute and great for a drink before your reservations. The decor and ambience of the Silo Prime restaurant is beautiful and the live music they have at the piano creates a wonderful dining experience. My steak was perfectly cooked, so were my sides. We had chicken fried oysters as our appetizer and they were melt in your mouth. Amazing! The service at Silo Prime is always five star. I've seen such great reviews for this place, but for a steakhouse at this price point, I was a bit disappointed by the quality of the steak. We got an off-menu tomahawk, medium rare, which was cooked to temperature but the cut itself was a bit grisly and not the most tender. The truffle mac and cheese was superb while the charred brussels sprouts were a bit salty for my liking. Service was terrific, and the complimentary cheese bread was delicious. Decor was elegant and the ambiance was great, with piano music playing in the background. There is also valet parking, but a bit of a detour to get thru the ongoing construction. read more

We got there at 5:15 (they opened at 5:00) and had the place to ourselves on a Wednesday in March for the first 45 minutes. We got to talk to our waitress at length for good recommendations. One of the people who clears the tables, Tyler, came by and shared thoughts on what to see in the area. Full bar. Great appetizers like oysters Rockefeller and steak tartare. The pork chops with mashed potatoes were done quite exquisitely. The filet mignon was lean and tasty. We got the creamed spinach to get some vegetables as well as mushrooms. We came to Silo Prime the night before Thanksgiving to celebrate a joint birthday, and it felt like we had the entire dining room to ourselves--it was practically deserted, which made the experience feel extra special. The service was excellent, and Andrew was awesome! Both of my friends celebrating their birthdays were greeted with a glass of bubbly, which was such a nice touch. For my meal, I ordered the double cut pork chop with buttermilk mashed potatoes, wild mushrooms, and marsala sauce. While the flavors were fantastic (especially the sauce and the creamy mashed potatoes), the pork chop itself was overcooked and tough, which was a letdown since it was supposed to be cooked medium per the chef's recommendation. My friends shared the evening's special, a massive porterhouse with sides and a lobster tail. The steak was seared beautifully and cooked perfectly to medium--everything a steak should be. And the truffle mac and cheese? Creamy, decadent, and downright delicious! Overall, Silo Prime is a lovely spot to celebrate a special occasion. Dined in for a birthday dinner and the ambiance was perfect. It is located within The Fairmount hotel and is a bit smaller, making for a nice intimate dinner. We started with the chicken fried oysters served over a bed of sautéed spinach which were amazing. This hotel has a rooftop oyster bar, so our server informed us they are served and shucked fresh. For entrees, I had the filet which was very good. It did take a bit for it to cook, but I enjoyed it. The creamed spinach was the perfect side. Arrogant Waiter Ruined What Should've Been a Special Evening Unfortunately, our evening at what is supposed to be a 5-star restaurant was completely ruined by the appalling arrogance and disrespect of our waiter, Andrew. We were a party of five dining after a medical conference -- three of whom were physicians who had presented at the event -- celebrating the close of a long three day conference. What should have been a relaxing, enjoyable evening turned into one of the most insulting dining experiences I've ever had. After waiting nearly 30 minutes for a second drink, the wrong one arrived. When I mentioned the mistake, Andrew insisted I was wrong, even though everyone at the table heard my original order and confirmed it. He didn't try to correct it and never brought the drink I had actually ordered. I let it go as I didn't want his arrogance to ruin our evening. A short time later, when I asked to order a glass of wine with my meal, he condescendingly told me I was "shut off" because I "couldn't remember" my drink order. The entire table was shocked. I have never been treated so rudely or humiliated in a restaurant in my life. We asked for a manager, who came over but offered no apology whatsoever. He simply said he would "speak to his staff" and did not acknowledge the waiter was out of line, despite every person at our table explaining exactly what had happened. His dismissive attitude made it clear he had no genuine interest in addressing the situation. Thankfully, another waitress took over afterward -- she was excellent and did her best to salvage what was left of our evening -- but by then, the experience had been completely ruined. What should have been a wonderful dinner with colleagues turned into a night of embarrassment and frustration, all over something as trivial as a drink order. The lack of professionalism, basic courtesy, and accountability from both the waiter and management was unbelievable. I would never return and would strongly caution others expecting a refined, respectful dining experience -- this was anything but that. read more

This is one of two restaurants inside the Fairmount Hotel. If you've never been, the entrance can be confusing as there's multiple doors. The entrance is through the hotel. Oysters weren't my favorite. The sauce had a quirky taste and I couldn't even get through more than two. The red snapper and the pie however, we're both a hit. Service could have been better. Service was ok, they took me to the "other" restaurant first and then when I asked about steaks they took me to silo so keep that in mind. Two restaurants one check in area. We had an amazing night at Silo Prime. This was a spontaneous dinner after spending the day walking around downtown enjoying the Dis de Los Muertos Festivities. We walked in and had zero wait. Malcolm took excellent care of us from the wine to dessert. The cook on the steak was a Pittsburgh rare and Jeremy in the kitchen did a phenomenal job. I don't eat steak that wasn't cooked by my husband, but I ate 2 bites of my husband's and it was done right! My sea bass was excellent and the desserts were delicious. This restaurant shares the lobby of a lovely hotel-Silo and Nonna Osteria, as well as the same booking person. We did not have a weeknight reservation, but as locals, we thought we would take a chance. We first asked for Nonna but could plainly see we would have to wait for a bit-as many were finishing their meal. But she suggested that Silo was open. I AM HANDICAPPED. I then got out of the car and surrendered it to the valet. We walk in to the Silo, which only had 3 tables occupied that we could see. Then the manager? Walks up to us and says there would be a 30 minute wait. That would be to set up the table. Why could we not be seated at one of the many cleared, cleaned tables and they could then set up. One of the waiters overheard this and you could see the angst in his face. Gee, no wonder their waiters aren't making great tips! I feel like we were disrespected, for the sake of this guy to look important. What a shame, I've had some lovely meals at Silo-but never again. Only winner was the valet. read more

We arrived early for our 8pm reservation. They offer complimentary valet. We sat at the little bar in the lobby and visited the rooftop bar. It was too hot for the rooftop but it had great views. After enjoying a well made skinny margarita and a gin martini, we were seated. The hostess at the desk could use some training in friendliness, it was noticeable and alone almost deserving of taking a star away. Ivan did a great job as our waiter. We decided on Restaraunt week courses. We were not disappointed ! Wife had lobster bisque and she enjoyed it! She had the red snapper and loved it! I had blackened gulf shrimp over grits and had the Akashi strip with a side of lobster. Everything thing I had was outstanding. Loved the shrimp and grits, steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare, and the lobster and butter sauce was great although quite a small lobster tail. Probably due to culinaria week portions. The ambience was acceptable for an upper class steak house, but that's about it. The Caesar salad was tasty, but over priced. My 10 ounce filet was cooked as requested, but lacked flavor. The shoe string potatoes I ordered were definitely not shoe string potatoes, but simply regular French fries. I'm not sure why they state shoe string on the menu, when as I stated they aren't. And finally, the mashed potatoes had less flavor than the steak, so they weren't really even worth eating. All in all, disappointing and for the money there are so many other fine steak houses I'd rather go to. That said, I won't be a return customer. read more

Located in the historic Fairmount Hotel on S Alamo , you will not go wrong having dinner at Silo Prime. We came for Christmas Eve and Andrew was our waiter. What a fantastic and personable young man. Full of enthusiasm and a desire to serve ,one of the best experiences we have had. We had a party of 7 and my son-in-law grandson and I split the 32oz tomahawk ribeye with a lobster tail. Meat cooked to perfection . Lobster tail didn't even need the butter. Buttermilk mashed potatoes and Forrest mushrooms were outstanding. My wife had the Atlantic salmon, our daughter sea scallops, and my granddaughters split the truffle Mac and cheese with lobster. Lots of history with this building. My wife and I really enjoyed our meal at Silo Prime. We had not been there in a while and will definitely return soon. The food was good and varied (we loved having French fries as an appetizer in a fine dining restaurant). The beet salad was fresh, although the deconstructed presentation was a bit surprising. The salmon and shrimp were excellent, as was the service. The room is nice, with a modern ambiance. The only criticism I have is that this level of dining should include tablecloths, or at least some finer table details. The "Cajun dirty rice" was tasty but not anything close to true Cajun dirty rice (I'm from Louisiana). It was more of a vermicelli dish with some (possibly andouille) sausage. The creamed spinach was delicious. Unlike most steakhouses, where the spinach is swimming in cheese, you could actually taste the spinach. It was really good. Unfortunately, the double cut pork chop was terribly dry. I could only eat a couple of bites. I was disappointed. I realize thick pork chops are a tricky dish but I assumed it was not beyond this restaurant's abilities. The sauce was good but the pork chop was too tough and dry to eat. The wine list seemed rather expensive, even for wines by the glass. Again, the server was fabulous and we loved the piano music. read more

I'm a Silos fan! I've been to every Silos restaurant in San Antonio and Silos Prime at the Fairmount Hotel has exceeded my expectations every time I've dined in this establishment. We were immediately greeted before we stepped into the hotel and seated as soon as we got to the restaurant. Our wait person was incredibly attentive. We started our dining experience with dirty martinis which were both vodka based and garnished with olives stuffed w/ blue cheese- yum!! Our dinner which consisted of steaks and Chilean sea bass were all delicious (check out the photos). All together, this is a place I'd visit again and again based on our experience. My friends and partner have been to the other Silo locations and have thoroughly enjoyed their service and food. Perhaps, I have been spolied by my favorite steakhouse. The service was good, but not anything special; however, we appreciated the manager dropping by our table to check on us. The ambience is nice with plenty of open space and seating options and dim lighting. The food was okay. We had the chicken fried oysters, which I would give a 3. I was not a fan of the batter as it was not crispy and seasoned enough to offset the thickness of the oyster. The spinach it came with was a bit bland. We shared the sea bass, which was also just okay. It too needed salt and the sauce was unusual. Will I try them again? Sure, but at the 1604 location. read more

Wow, what a great dinner. Silo Prime is one of two restaurants in The Fairmount Hotel--one of the older classics. We were a bit early for our reso so we started with drinks on the rooftop with a very nice view and a couple of delicious authentic whiskey sours. Then we went back down and were seated right next to the piano player who sits in the middle of the restaurant. What a great atmosphere (other than the loud talking screechers in the back of the room) who we were happy to see leave and the nice piano music drowned their noise out a bit. Our server was Andrew--what a pleasure--polite, fun, attentive and enthusiastic. We talked with him much of the night about travels, San Antonio, etc (the place wasn't very crowded). At one point the piano man came over and sat with us, played songs for us--a private concert at one point. The food: at the reco of other yelpers we shared the lobster/crab fondue with grilled bread. This was crack for foodies. First off the portion was more than enough for two to share. The flavor was outstanding and addicting (gruyere cheese and sherry with ample lobster and crab--we were in foodie heaven). We then shared a wedge salad--perfect. Finally we shared brussel sprouts and a filet--cooked perfectly and finally someone knows how to cook a steak without a ton of salt on it. We were thinking of saving some of the lobster fondue for the filet but alas we had licked the bowl. Instead we got the mushroom marsala sauce for the steak--also to die for--so much flavor--I've gotta try to recreate this at home. Top notch in every way. What an incredible dining experience. To start, our waiter-Geronimo-was attentive, knowledgeable, and so friendly. Every course from the cocktails and oysters, to the tomahawk steak we shared, to the mousse was all so deliciously assembled, and it was all handled with such care as well (the kitchen was in view from our seat. As for the dining room, the lighting and piano music being played on the centrally located baby-grand was the perfect backdrop to our evening. My go to main entree is the 6oz filet which is cooked to perfection everytime, it literally cuts like butter. Service is always top notch and they make us feel so welcomed all the time! Andrew is the best so would definitely recommend asking for him. My wife & I ate here a couple of weeks back on an out of town trip to San Antonio. We had dinner the night before at Nonna Osteria and had to come back to try Silo. The restaurant was understaffed the night that we went but they didn't skip a beat. Our waiter and the manager stopped by to let us know they were going to have us taken care of. And they did! We split a salad & the french onion soup as well as a couple of cocktails. I actually ordered a cocktail from Nonna Osteria that I had the night before called "The Peche Mode" (fantastic!).
