Not sure why it's taken me so long to write a review because this is my favorite place in San Antonio. The interior design is immaculate, moody, romantic and unique. They have a private dining room if you want a more intimate experience. The food is exceptional, it's so refreshing to see high-quality European cuisine- Filet au poivre, bone marrow, coq au vin, fois gras, caviarrrrrrrrrrr!! The service is wonderful because they curate their staff with the same care that they curate their wine list, and the owners are fucking outstanding. Jill and Juan are two people who share their love for food, wine, travel, and adventure. They make a point to greet you every single time and check on you which makes the experience special. They also have a wine club with curated, tastings, and special dinners that are so, so fun. And they have a special room in the back that's very chic and cozy for members. Plus wine lockers. Don't want to forget the market they offer with caviar, wine, European butters etc. I've been living in Southtown for 10 years and I've been waiting for something like this to come around. And of course, just when it does, I'm moving. But, I will be making the 35 min trek! read more

7/10. A beautiful room, terrific people, and a first-rate wine and cocktail program, with a few misses in the food. King William Wine Company has a spectacular setting. Even in the middle of a hot San Antonio afternoon, the room felt appropriately cozy, elegant, and inviting. We were there with another couple, and the staff could not have been nicer. Our waitress, Destiny, was fantastic, and Juan, co-owner and storyteller, was warm, engaging, and immediately easy to like. The cocktails were outstanding, and the wine list is top-notch--certainly among the best I've encountered in San Antonio. My wife loved the lobster dish, which was one of the highlights of the meal. My disappointment was the steak au poivre with foie gras. I ordered my steak rare-plus/medium-rare, while my friend across the table ordered his medium. Mine arrived decidedly medium, and his appeared to be cooked to my requested temperature, so I suspect the two steaks were simply switched. More surprising was the preparation itself. I had expected the classic pleasures suggested by "steak au poivre with foie gras": a peppery steak with a rich au poivre pan sauce and warm foie gras. Instead, the steak was served without sauce, with cold foie gras on the side. I asked whether something had been omitted and was told that this was the intended preparation. Fair enough--it is the chef's interpretation--but it didn't quite work for me. The cold foie gras felt disconnected from the steak, and I missed the sauce that, to my mind, makes steak au poivre such a satisfying dish. Those misses aside, there is a great deal to like here. The room is beautiful, the hospitality genuinely warm, and the cocktail and wine programs are excellent. I'd happily return--and next time I'd simply order something different. read more

I dropped by on a whim, and now I know this will be my go-to spot for a luxurious yet welcoming escape. If you're looking for a place where quality, warmth, and charm meet, this is it. My friend and I came here for a glass of wine and surprisingly neither of us ordered a glass. I will admit that I was expecting more of a wine bar, given the name, and was surprised to find that this was more so your typical restaurant that happens to have an extensive wine menu. We did, however, enjoy a martini flight and an espresso martini. The espresso martini took the cake and was well crafted. It was not too sweet and bold in flavor. The martini flight was interesting. It was three small relatively similar martinis and all very strong! If you appreciate a strong martini, these might be for you. We felt as if each was quite literally straight liquor. We did pair this with the boudin appetizer. We visited on a Saturday night and the entire restaurant was quite full. The interior was clean and they seemed well staffed. The menu was a little on the pricey side, but the food looked delicious! Overall, I recommend King William Wine. Maybe next time, I'll actually try some wine. read more

We popped into King William Wine after seeing it on my social feed. My wife and I fell in love with this place for the atmosphere, wine, cocktails, the food menu and the staff!! The secret ingredient are the proprietors, Jill (the sommelier) and Juan, who clearly have a passion for what they do. The decor is quite beautiful while not being pretentious. They have lots of seating, including outdoors, and a private room for about (4) people. The menu is very much progressive, including a brunch menu with lobster Benedict. As you would expect, their wine selection is solid, featuring European and South American wines at reasonable prices. Special kudos to the staff, including Max, who made sure that everything was to our expectations. Highly recommend trying it out for dinner, brunch or just some wine or specialty drinks (they have a full bar). read more

Heard about the latest brunch spot at the Blue Star complex and had to come check it out for myself and glad I did. They do take reservations, and they are recommended as this spot is not too large and seating is limited. They do have a small outdoor patio for outdoor dining as well. As you walk in you notice the vintage decor and furniture that add a touch of elegance to the motif, but they also play modern music in the dining area to keep things lively. After looking over the menu, I go with the heritage lamb hash and the Chef's Bacon Experience because why not. The bacon comes out first and you get three differently flavored bacons offerings. I don't recall the different profiles, but they were all distinctive, flavorful, and not overly salty. The lamb has comes out next and it smells great. It comes with a crispy potatoes with a poached egg in the middle. The lamb was moist and flavorful with no gamey taste. The poached egg was perfectly made. During our meal the owner came by to check in on us and our meal which was a nice touch. The staff was super friendly and worked well as a team. Overall, I really enjoyed my first time here and look forward to coming back and try more of the menu. read more

What a gorgeous little gem tucked away in Blue Star. We made reservations to try this new restaurant, and from the moment we walked up, the charm was undeniable: quaint on the outside, almost like something you'd stumble upon in NYC. Inside, the cozy atmosphere and ambient lighting set the mood perfectly. We were seated in the Matador Room, which fit the four of us comfortably and felt nostalgic and intimate, almost like dining in a vintage train car. We started with the escargot and the butter lettuce salad. The escargot was perfectly cooked with beautifully balanced seasonings, and the salad was honestly one of the best I've ever had, bright with slices of navel orange, fresh mint sprigs, and a light dressing that enhanced the flavors without overpowering them. For entrées, we shared the lamb, osso buco, and suckling pig. All were incredible, but the lamb stole the show for our table. For dessert, we tried all three options, and the flourless chocolate cake was the unanimous favorite. They also have a full bar and an impressive wine list. My wife and I stopped in for drinks and a small bite. The atmosphere is beautifully designed and clearly very thoughtfully put together. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the drinks were excellent. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the rest of the experience. We ordered the escargot and the mushroom pâté. The escargot arrived lukewarm and lacked seasoning, and the pâté was very mild with little salt or depth of flavor. When the owner stopped by our table, we shared how much we enjoyed the ambiance, service, and drinks. We also offered honest feedback about the food. Unfortunately, her response felt somewhat dismissive--there wasn't much acknowledgment or effort to address the issue, which was surprising given how strong the rest of the experience had been. We finished our drinks and ended up walking over to Maverick afterward, where we had a delightful meal. King William Wine Co. has a lot going for it with its atmosphere and service, but hopefully the food and guest feedback experience can rise to the same level. read more

Our small group had the pleasure of being the first customers to ring in the New Year of 2026 with brunch at King William Wine. We were met at the door and explained the history and careful thought that went into the overall layout and decor throughout the space. Our group of 5 shared the Bacon Experience, Champagne Brunch Tea Tray and they Butcher's Brunch Board and it was more than enough to leave us all full and satisfied. The service was top notch and we even had the opportunity to speak with the owner's and understand their vision behind the space. Everything we had was top notch and, although full, we had to try the Gemutlikuchen dessert cake which came out in a large enough portion for 5 people to share. It was absolutely amazing. Because we went on New Years Day, there was a limited menu, so we are excited to go back and get the full brunch experience. One last note - they have an extensive wine list. We are not big wine drinkers ourselves, but you can tell the owner's have a passion for wine and talked us through some of the wine tasting experiences and classes they will have in the future. The reason for four stars is due to the small portion sizes specifically the pasta dish- especially compared to other fine dining establishments in the area. Happened upon this gem on a lovely rainy Sunday afternoon, right before closing time. Stunning and welcoming and cozy from the minute you step inside. Ashley graciously provided us with the story of this place, and the wine, and the intention of it all. We were seated at the bar underneath vintage chandeliers, sipping champagne and treated like family. It was truly hard to leave. Tried the coq au vin for the first time in my life and I was in heaven! I will definitely come back for that. We also had escargot, acorn squash stuffed with sage sausage and an order of their fabulous bread and melty butter. Everything was delicious. Topped it off with flourless chocolate cake with cherries. All accompanied by a crisp white Chignin wine from Savoie.
