I want to complement Bohanan's for the wonderful meal and service we received last night celebrating our 44th wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in the door till we exited we were treated with refined elegance. Great ambiance. The old fashioned cocktails were great, the food was cooked to perfection, the presentation was perfect, and the staff was outstanding. Special thanks to David, who greeted us when we stepped off the elevator and led us to our table with such gentlemanly grace and charm, Fassio who was an outstanding waiter who made knowledgeable suggestions about the menu and served us at every point in the meal, and Xander who kept the water glasses full and assisted us with our needs throughout the meal. We will remember, treasure, and talk about this meal experience and most certainly will be returning. Thank you, C.E. Elliott read more

My husband went with his groomsmen for dinner and drinks as a bachelor party and they had a great time. He talked it up so we decided to go for a date night before our baby was born. We made reservations, went on a Saturday night and I was severely let down. My main complaint was the service. We were seated upstairs in the middle of the restaurant and all around us people were being tended to hand and foot... BUT not us. They forgot about us. We waited a while for a server to come to our table and I honestly don't think we even had a set server. We literally had to ask for water refills (are you serious) and I felt like the staff didn't care about us. As far as the food- my mac and cheese tasted like boxed Velveeta. We could have gotten better service at a chain restaurant like an Olive Garden in my opinion and paid a quarter of the price. read more

Being from Houston, Texas I'm pretty particular about my state, but let me tell you what Bohanans in San Antonio was simply top-notch. What a great experience from top to bottom. First off the decor simply amazing. I love the decor here. I took one of my favorite shots with my iPhone 16 Pro Max. The customer service is top-notch. We had several waiters checking on us throughout the entire night. We never had to wait for anything because they were on point. The drinks were full and we had everything we needed at all times. Food: everything is simply amazing here. We started off with some appetizers. The grilled oysters were made to perfection. Also, the thick cut pieces of bacon are to die for. Wow that bacon is full of flavor and simply amazing. You can call it candied bacon if you will or like beef jerky or something amazing. The chicken tortilla soup is probably the best I've ever had. I could come here and eat that for lunch and be completely satisfied, but I don't think they only open for dinner but that chicken tortilla soup is such a great dish. Blown away by it I went with a fillet and it was grilled to perfect perfection. What a great cut of meat. Every single bite was flavorful. We tried each other Steaks to make sure we got to try all the different cuts. My fillet was great, but I have to admit, the New York strip was the best cut of meat. I tried. Wow talk about a perfect steak. Oh my God I would totally come back and get a New York strip every single time the ribeye was just as good. Full of flavor and grilled to perfection. The sides were amazing. The cream corn was top notch. The au gratin potatoes were simply amazing. The desserts were to die for. As you can see, we went with bread, pudding, and crème brûlée and they were just top-notch. Everything was great here. There was nothing that I would change. They knocked it out the park. If you want great service, great food, with a beautifully decorated restaurant. This is the place to come to. This will be my go to for nice steaks when I come to San Antonio . Easiest five star review. Staff did a phenomenal job tonight. Shout out to the cooks as well. read more

31 Dec 2023 We were staying downtown for New Year's, so we decided to do dinner right. You can't go wrong with Bohannon's. Good steaks and seafood all around. Started with the escargot. This was the one dish that needed more flavor. The cream sauce was good, just a bit lacking. The bread served with it was great. I went for the wedge salad and the husband had the Caesar. Entrees were the 7 oz filet and the macadamia nut crusted fish. With a side of au gratin potatoes. All were so good, especially the potatoes. Our server Amaro, was stellar. Always there when needed. He would gently suggest the wagyu beef, dessert and drinks. Not a hard sell guy. Much appreciated. Go there. read more

Food: 5* Service; 5* Ambience: 4* Prices: 2* During a conference I had the opportunity to eat here. I had the petite filet, scallops, decadent chocolate cakes, and sweet jalapeño butter. The filet was perfect, tender, juicy, well seasoned and the perfect temperature. The scallops were juicy, ample, and tasty. I understand they fly them in every other day from Nova Scotia. Delirious. Ambience is old world steak house. It was nice but a little dated. You get what you pay for here. So, if you want to splurge, you won't be sorry. read more

Our first visit to Bohanan's so we required extra time to pour over the menu because the delectable choices were many! We had children with us, one of them a topper, and they genuinely seemed pleased to have us there. They didn't mind any of our odd request, even with one of the children being really fussy about what to eat. The ambience is sophisticated and classy, and the decor enhances the eating experience. We will make Bohannon's our I must stop to eat place whenever we come visit San Antonio. read more

This was the second time coming to Bohanan's.  This time was for my company's Holiday dinner and again I was impressed by the service and food.  My drink for the night was their Margarita, which was good.   I started out dinner with the Texas Heirloom Salad (apologizes for having no picture of this wonderful salad).  For my main dish, I ordered the Salmon with a side of Potatoes Au Gratin.  Everything was very delicious.  The Salmon melted in my mouth and the Potatoes complimented it very well.  For dessert, my wife and I shared their Creme Brulee, nice and light but very delicious.  Our server was outstanding as there were 10 of us in our group and she made sure we were taken care.  Yes, it is expensive, but if you want to go out on a special date (e.g. Anniversary) or your company is willing to pay for a dinner and doesn't care about the cost, then this is a great place. read more

Bohanan's continues to be my favorite steak house. While I've been to other comparable restaurants and have enjoyed their delicious steaks, Bohanan's has remained consistent in quality, and excellent service. We never feel rushed here. It's a beautiful restaurant that gives a romantic ambience. Bohanan's you still have my heart. read more

Exceptional steak and seafood restaurant. High end service and price. We go every time we are in San Antonio.

I didn't know what to expect, I've mainly been to steak houses in Chicagoland. But Bohanan's does have that high end steak house feel, like you're in downtown Chicago. There's a more casual bahr area on the first floor and we spent almost all of our time in the dining area, which is on the 2nd floor. Our server was very professional in explaining all of the dishes and I opted for the mesquite grilled fish, it's topped with a scallop and crab meat - that was excellent. The asparagus, bread and buttah, white vino, steak, everything was top notch and cooked to perfection. Don't skip out on the bananas foster presentation - it's prepared table side like saganaki. The creme brulee is also a must try with a caramelized topping. When we got there, it was empty and by the time we left, the entire dining area was completely filled. So please do make your reservations. This is a great part of downtown San Antonio, you could easily walk from the Alamo and have dinner here. read more

Amazing service and food. Perfect place for a date night or special occasion. Staff went above and beyond to make our anniversary special.

They have a nice setting and the place is beautiful but I never got my food after waiting over an hour and a half. We only got our drinks and one appetizer. Everyone foods came out minus our. I do not know if was because we was the only black and Latino couple. I really don't want to think that but that's how I feel. The manager want us to come back after the comedy show to get food to go. Really? We went to eat because we was hungry and we was celebrating our 14 year anniversary. We are not planning to ever come back. read more

Dropped $1400 on a meal, which frankly was just not worth it. Then scolded and chased out for surreptitiously taking a puff on my vape while waiting for their valet parking to take forever to bring up my car. Don't think I'll be back. And every time I have gone, I always order those steak fries and am always taken aback by the funky taste of the white truffle oil or whatever the hell they're frying them in. Don't like it. OH yeah, forgot: 2.5 hours to complete this meal, their service is slower than molasses. read more

This is one of the most elegant restaurants in San Antonio. We had dinner before going to the theater this past weekend. It's our third or fourth visit to this restaurant and it has never disappointed. The staff are very professional yet friendly. It was cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend Bohanan's for a date night or any special occasion! read more

Easily the best experience I've had thus far in San Antonio. I chose this restaurant for a much needed date night. Immediately upon entering, I was warmly greeted by the two hostesses and they kindly pushed my reservation time back to 9pm because my date had not arrived yet. When my date arrived, we were given instructions to take the elevator upstairs to the restaurants more formal setting for fine dining. The downstairs bar and lounge area offers a more casual experience. After exiting the elevator, we were greeted by another hostess who actually pronounced my last name correctly. I especially appreciated this because when asking her how she knew how to say it, she noted that she actually practiced it prior to my arrival. That to me, shows outstanding effort. It's the little things like that, as they say! I also took note of the very classy and vintage dining decor. It looked amazing. Now what about the food? Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about every dish and was so kind and funny. She really made our night that much more enjoyable. We started with their jalapeño cream cheese spread. Absolutely amazing. A good sweet and spicy mix. Next we had the escargot in cheese sauce. This was my first time eating snails and I thoroughly enjoyed them in the savory cheese sauce. Our main courses were Red Snapper, 12oz Ribeye, and broccoli. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. For desert, we enjoyed the crème brûlée. It was a nice touch to wrap up our meal. The best part of this experience was the service. Everyone, from the front door all the way to the table, were kind, knowledgeable, patient, and showed a high level of class and care in performing their duties. If you visit San Antonio, check this place out!!! read more

If you want to celebrate an occasion downtown in a "classic" old school steakhouse with pretty views (ask for a window table), this is a good choice. I don't think it's the best steakhouse of its caliber, but it's good. We decided to celebrate our anniversary here. They used to do a beautiful table presentation with rose petals, but I guess they don't do that anymore. Several staff members wished us a happy anniversary, which was very nice. We did have a lovely table overlooking the courtyard. Just beautiful. I don't know why people rave about the cream cheese with jalapeño jelly. It's tasty, sure, but I make it at home so it's not something I want from a high-end steakhouse. We ordered the escargot to start. We love escargot and order it whenever we see it on a menu. Smothered in butter and Brie, it was very rich and one-dimensional. Great on the bread, just didn't do anything for the beautifully plump snails. They could serve that sauce alone bread alone, no snails, and it would be a big hit! Bread rolls and butter were delivered separately to the table. Soooo dry and hard. Just by appearance it was obvious, even by my eyes they weren't fresh, so I'm not sure why any food service professional would send them out of the kitchen that way. We asked for a fresh basket and those rolls were delicious. Night and day! Our first time ordering the chateaubriand for 2, requested a medium. It ranged from medium rare at one end to medium well at the other end. Averaged it out, maybe? Our waiter rolled it out on a cart and proceeded to hack at it with the dullest knife he could find. After struggling with it, even he mentioned the knife was too dull. We asked him to just split it in half but he insisted on sawing away at it because there's an expected presentation that can't be achieved with just two lumps of underseasoned meat. The duchess potato towers looked beautiful but were dry to the point of crumbling when you put your fork in it. The carrots and asparagus were nice. They didn't offer us anything anniversary-wise but, with the mediocrity of everything else, we decided to get dessert elsewhere anyway. The scariest thing about the visit, and it's not even food related, was the valet parking. We don't usually valet here because we like to go early, park, stroll around and make our way over. It was too hot to stroll, so we went straight to valet. The young man asked if we would be paying cash or card. He said cash was easier, and he would park our car right out front. He gave us no ticket, said it wasn't necessary. He kept the keys, as is the normal way. I felt uneasy about it because I thought someone could easily tow the car without any proof that we've paid and have a claim ticket. When we finished and went to retrieve the car, the sign directly on the valet stand said cash payment is not accepted. We never noticed because he approached us at the curb. Luckily, the car was still there! Overall, we would go back, especially for wagyu, which we've had there before and truly sets them apart. For everything else, it's OK, but service and ambiance are far better than their dining options. They'll make you feel special even when everything else makes you feel meh. read more

5 Star Food and Service. Very classy and high end restaurant. I started with the Texas Heirloom salad. The dish was a piece of art and tomatoes were super fresh and homegrown. This restaurant is perfection!!! My new favorite restaurant downtown hands down!! From the moment my party and ai stepped out of the vehicle, onto the curb, we were meant with hospitality and the evening just kept getting better. Yes, this establishment had a high price tag associated but I believe you 100% get what you pay for here. The upstairs is for groups and the downstairs is for singles and doubles and had a more social-networking vibe. Steaks cooked to perfection, sides were awesome, recommendations were great and enhanced the experience, desserts really capped the meal well. We were celebrating our anniversary and believe we found our new annual go-to. read more

This was an amazing experience. From the time our server met us at the front door to the conclusion of the meal, it was a 5 star experience. Maybe in a 3 star Michelin restaurant but not elsewhere have I had the menu described so well. I wanted to order everything. Our needs were anticipated and those that weren't, when expressed were met with a willingness to accommodate us. Even an off menu request! The restaurant is beautiful also. The bar on the ground floor and the dining room on the second floor are classic, inviting and comfortable. The food was terrific too from the prime steaks to the 3 different preparations of snapper to the side dishes. I highly recommend Bohanan's. read more

I had never visited Bohanon's before but their reviews and Yelp photos stood out to me when selecting the restaurant for the 65th wedding anniversary of my grandparents. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. They asked my wife, sister, and I questions about our grandparents and thanked us for selecting their restaurant. The bar area was beautiful and the seats were comfy. We had a cocktail hour before going upstairs to dinner and each drink was wonderful. Once we went upstairs, they sat us at the best table in the house overlooking the courtyard lit up with string lights. The waitstaff took amazing care of us and paid special attention to my grandparents. My grandpa doesn't even like champagne but he enjoyed the complimentary glass and kind words. As expected, every appetizer, entree, and side was on point. The team really made it so special for us and we couldn't have been happier. My grandmother insisted that my grandpa take her back for a date there. They called me the next night to tell me how much they loved it and how they're going back soon. Thank you! read more

Such a wonderful evening to celebrate our anniversary together. Thank you Bohanan's, sincerely for making our dining experience so memorable. We will absolutely be back! The cuisine top tier, however it was the world class dining experience that truly caught our attention from moment walked in to the moment we retrieved our vehicle from the valet. Great service and atmosphere. Not as loud and noisy as many places on the river walk. For mature adults who enjoy good food and service.

This was the most efficient entry into a restaurant. I wish I could articulate the way they ushered us to our upstairs table with ease. I thought I was the president for a moment. I have never experienced service like this in my entire foodie career. This was the best and most attractive service. We had about 4 servers assigned to our 10 person table and they did not miss a beat. The food was epic. The best tasting most flavorful food I have had. My experience at Bohanan's was great. They're a bit of a walk from the Riverwalk, so I got some good exercise along the way. The host ordered some appetizers for us to share, and everything was perfectly cooked and presented beautifully. I ordered the lamb chops and they were amazing. The atmosphere was very elegant. I loved the vintage decor, beautiful chandeliers, and framed artwork. The bathroom was very clean. Service was great. My only (minor) complaint is that service was extremely slow... it took a long time to get our orders in even though we were there before the dinner rush.
