We had children with us, one of them a topper, and they genuinely seemed pleased to have us there. This was the one dish that needed more flavor. The cream sauce was good, just a bit lacking. The bread served with it was great. I went for the wedge salad and the husband had the Caesar. Entrees were the 7 oz filet and the macadamia nut crusted fish. With a side of au gratin potatoes. All were so good, especially the potatoes. Our server Amaro, was stellar. Always there when needed. This was the second time coming to Bohanan's.  This time was for my company's Holiday dinner and again I was impressed by the service and food.  My drink for the night was their Margarita, which was good.   I started out dinner with the Texas Heirloom Salad (apologizes for having no picture of this wonderful salad).  For my main dish, I ordered the Salmon with a side of Potatoes Au Gratin.  Everything was very delicious.  The Salmon melted in my mouth and the Potatoes complimented it very well.  For dessert, my wife and I shared their Creme Brulee, nice and light but very delicious.  Our server was outstanding as there were 10 of us in our group and she made sure we were taken care.  Yes, it is expensive, but if you want to go out on a special date (e.g. Anniversary) or your company is willing to pay for a dinner and doesn't care about the cost, then this is a great place. read more

Dropped $1400 on a meal, which frankly was just not worth it. Then scolded and chased out for surreptitiously taking a puff on my vape while waiting for their valet parking to take forever to bring up my car. Don't think I'll be back. And every time I have gone, I always order those steak fries and am always taken aback by the funky taste of the white truffle oil or whatever the hell they're frying them in. Don't like it. I didn't know what to expect, I've mainly been to steak houses in Chicagoland. But Bohanan's does have that high end steak house feel, like you're in downtown Chicago. There's a more casual bahr area on the first floor and we spent almost all of our time in the dining area, which is on the 2nd floor. Our server was very professional in explaining all of the dishes and I opted for the mesquite grilled fish, it's topped with a scallop and crab meat - that was excellent. The asparagus, bread and buttah, white vino, steak, everything was top notch and cooked to perfection. Don't skip out on the bananas foster presentation - it's prepared table side like saganaki. The creme brulee is also a must try with a caramelized topping. When we got there, it was empty and by the time we left, the entire dining area was completely filled. I do not know if was because we was the only black and Latino couple. I really don't want to think that but that's how I feel. Easily the best experience I've had thus far in San Antonio. I chose this restaurant for a much needed date night. Immediately upon entering, I was warmly greeted by the two hostesses and they kindly pushed my reservation time back to 9pm because my date had not arrived yet. When my date arrived, we were given instructions to take the elevator upstairs to the restaurants more formal setting for fine dining. The downstairs bar and lounge area offers a more casual experience. After exiting the elevator, we were greeted by another hostess who actually pronounced my last name correctly. I especially appreciated this because when asking her how she knew how to say it, she noted that she actually practiced it prior to my arrival. That to me, shows outstanding effort. It's the little things like that, as they say! I also took note of the very classy and vintage dining decor. It looked amazing. Now what about the food? Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about every dish and was so kind and funny. She really made our night that much more enjoyable. We started with their jalapeño cream cheese spread. Absolutely amazing. A good sweet and spicy mix. Next we had the escargot in cheese sauce. This was my first time eating snails and I thoroughly enjoyed them in the savory cheese sauce. Our main courses were Red Snapper, 12oz Ribeye, and broccoli. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. For desert, we enjoyed the crème brûlée. It was a nice touch to wrap up our meal. The best part of this experience was the service. Everyone, from the front door all the way to the table, were kind, knowledgeable, patient, and showed a high level of class and care in performing their duties. If you want to celebrate an occasion downtown in a "classic" old school steakhouse with pretty views (ask for a window table), this is a good choice. I don't think it's the best steakhouse of its caliber, but it's good. We decided to celebrate our anniversary here. They used to do a beautiful table presentation with rose petals, but I guess they don't do that anymore. Several staff members wished us a happy anniversary, which was very nice. We did have a lovely table overlooking the courtyard. Just beautiful. I don't know why people rave about the cream cheese with jalapeño jelly. It's tasty, sure, but I make it at home so it's not something I want from a high-end steakhouse. We ordered the escargot to start. We love escargot and order it whenever we see it on a menu. Smothered in butter and Brie, it was very rich and one-dimensional. Great on the bread, just didn't do anything for the beautifully plump snails. They could serve that sauce alone bread alone, no snails, and it would be a big hit! Bread rolls and butter were delivered separately to the table. Soooo dry and hard. Just by appearance it was obvious, even by my eyes they weren't fresh, so I'm not sure why any food service professional would send them out of the kitchen that way. We asked for a fresh basket and those rolls were delicious. Night and day! Our first time ordering the chateaubriand for 2, requested a medium. It ranged from medium rare at one end to medium well at the other end. Averaged it out, maybe? Our waiter rolled it out on a cart and proceeded to hack at it with the dullest knife he could find. After struggling with it, even he mentioned the knife was too dull. We asked him to just split it in half but he insisted on sawing away at it because there's an expected presentation that can't be achieved with just two lumps of underseasoned meat. The duchess potato towers looked beautiful but were dry to the point of crumbling when you put your fork in it. The carrots and asparagus were nice. They didn't offer us anything anniversary-wise but, with the mediocrity of everything else, we decided to get dessert elsewhere anyway. The scariest thing about the visit, and it's not even food related, was the valet parking. We don't usually valet here because we like to go early, park, stroll around and make our way over. It was too hot to stroll, so we went straight to valet. The young man asked if we would be paying cash or card. He said cash was easier, and he would park our car right out front. He gave us no ticket, said it wasn't necessary. He kept the keys, as is the normal way. I felt uneasy about it because I thought someone could easily tow the car without any proof that we've paid and have a claim ticket. When we finished and went to retrieve the car, the sign directly on the valet stand said cash payment is not accepted. We never noticed because he approached us at the curb. Luckily, the car was still there! Overall, we would go back, especially for wagyu, which we've had there before and truly sets them apart. For everything else, it's OK, but service and ambiance are far better than their dining options. They'll make you feel special even when everything else makes you feel meh. read more

Maybe in a 3 star Michelin restaurant but not elsewhere have I had the menu described so well. I wanted to order everything. I had never visited Bohanon's before but their reviews and Yelp photos stood out to me when selecting the restaurant for the 65th wedding anniversary of my grandparents. From the moment we walked in the door, the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. They asked my wife, sister, and I questions about our grandparents and thanked us for selecting their restaurant. The bar area was beautiful and the seats were comfy. We had a cocktail hour before going upstairs to dinner and each drink was wonderful. Once we went upstairs, they sat us at the best table in the house overlooking the courtyard lit up with string lights. The waitstaff took amazing care of us and paid special attention to my grandparents. My grandpa doesn't even like champagne but he enjoyed the complimentary glass and kind words. As expected, every appetizer, entree, and side was on point. The team really made it so special for us and we couldn't have been happier. I was there a few days ago to grab a drink and a quick bite before a show. The bar is open seating so we had no issue finding a table. There was no space at the bar but they have a cute sitting section inside and a beautiful courtyard. We opted to sit outside and it was quite lovely. Perfect spot for a pre-Majestic event, Kenny G. From the moment we went inside, we were swept away with the music and ambiance and the aroma of things to come. The candied jalapeños on cream cheese and bread are their specialty appetizer. From there, the rolls and specialty drinks arrived and then the table side cutting of our chateaubriands. I loved the vintage decor, beautiful chandeliers, and framed artwork. The bathroom was very clean. Service was great. My only (minor) complaint is that service was extremely slow... it took a long time to get our orders in even though we were there before the dinner rush. I ordered a dirty martini when I first got there and the bartender brought me another one without asking once my food arrived, this was surprising but I figured maybe he was just being nice and it was on the house, I certainly wouldn't have ordered another one, I would have preferred to switch to red wine with my steak. However when the bill came I saw that I was charged for both of them even though I didn't order the second. That left a bit of a weird taste in my mouth. Bohanons is our go-to place for getting a bite before attending a concert across the street at the Majestic Theater. Valet parking at the restaurant keeps you close and prevents a long walk from parking.
