The Best Old School Steakhouse in San Antonio? You betcha! As a super fan of quite possibly the best old steakhouse in America, Hy's of Honolulu, I only learned about Bohanan's early 2022 and knew immediately we had to go check it out. ("Old school" being defined as super fancy with tableside service and dark hardwood decor.) We came for Mother's Day and left fat and happy. Free bread. Tasty and free. Nothing special with the sliced bread itself, really. But the sweet jalapeño jam and butter? To die for. Total recommend you try since it's free anyway. Caesar Salad. We were used to tableside preparation of the Caesar, and through some miscommunication, figured this would be available here as well. Sadly, just okay but chilled. Recommend if you're craving a Caesar. Bone-In Ribeye. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Just the right amount of that seared crusty outside with right amount of salt. Nothing else to say. Total recommend. Chateaubriand for Two. Absolute let down, but it is carved tableside for a nice little show. But that's it. While yes, quite tender, that's about all this lackluster cut of beef provides. Think of it like a super soft and at times mushy and cold filet mignon -- without enough flavor to make it worth it. The potato purée came out hard and cold, and bland -- needs more salt. But man, they salted the living daylights out of the carrots! No one could eat those orange salt monsters, so it wasn't just me... (And I actually like a good filet mignon. While Ruth's Chris does a bang up job on their filets, the best I've ever had was at a restaurant on the Royal Mile of Edinburgh Castle called Witchery by the Castle.) Do not recommend, even if you've never had it. Cherries Jubilee. Recommend every time. Classic gets a good scoop of vanilla ice cream. And it's just absolutely covered in cherries, which was just crazy, but still good. (For comparison, Hy's does fewer cherries, but the flavor is punchier there versus here.) For reference, this is just one option for flambé dessert: the other two we want to try are the bananas foster and the peculiar strawberry option. All in all, this place is an absolute staple in downtown San Antonio. If you're looking to celebrate in style with great cuts of delicious steak and fantastic tableside service to boot, make Bohanan's your number one pick anytime. read more

Had a lovely experience dining here. I was in San Antonio for work and had time to treat myself to a nice steak dinner so did a quick yelp search and found this place. I didn't have a reservation but they were able to accommodate me upstairs at the bar, which I didn't mind as long as I was able to order a steak. The bartenders (Michael and Jordan) were great and made my dinner for one a lot more enjoyable. Michael was so friendly and took great care of me at the bar. I rarely eat alone but when I do, I do enjoy bar seating with a friendly bartender. Everything was great and I hope to come back again when I'm in town!! read more

Great ending to a date night! We exited the majestic theater suffering from belly aches caused by Sebastian Maniscalco, crossed the street, and made our way to Bohanans for our 9:15 resy. It was a full house, so we had to wait for about 5 minutes...not mad at that. They were out of a couple apps we ordered...it happens, y'all....but I wasn't too pressed by that either. We started with the bacon. Please get this. I think this is my new favorite thing! Bacon at steakhouses!!! ALWAYS the best ! Ordered a couple of steaks with some sides. Everything tasted phenomenal! No complaints, but I think this is the longest wait Ive ever endured at a $$$$ restaurant! I think we walked out of there around midnight! Too long! We came here on 23Sep2023 while visiting San Antonio. Our dining experience was exceptional/outstanding ! From the time you enter the restaurant, to when they escort you to take the elevator to the 2nd floor, to when the elevators open and they escort you to your table we're all impressive. Our server James was also outstanding and one of, if not the best servers, we've had. The server assistant (I think his name is Jose, not sure) was likewise attentive and provided great service. Crab cake appetizer was one of the best we've had - not dry and crab taste not too strong; we requested that the scallop appetizer be converted to an entree and they did - scallops were cooked right. The Wagyu A-5 (8 oz for $175) was cooked perfectly, very tender, juicy and melts in the mouth - it is authentic and the best wagyu quality we've tasted. Portobello mushroom side in red wine and rich demi-glace was delicious. For dessert, we got the bananas foster flambé and it was amazing. Reservations definitely recommended if you want to make sure you're able to seat in the dining area on the 2nd floor. Upscale restaurant and everything is priced reasonably with exceptional service. My wife and I dined at Bohanan's before going to the Majestic. Dinner was $564 before tip. Our server, Alex, recommended the 8 oz. A-5 wagyu steak ($195) imported from Japan. My wife asked Alex for an entree to compliment the wagyu. He suggested the scallops without mentioning the price. The 4 scallops were $79.80, which I think was excessive. The presentation for the  A-5 wagyu and the scallops was mediocre at best. On a positive note, the wagyu did melt in your mouth. The appetizer house specialty French grilled oysters did not taste fresh, nor did the seared sashimi grade tuna. The creme brulee was very good, as well as the service. read more

Stopped in for drinks after a theater show, and as always, the experience was fantastic. The drinks at the bar area are fabulous, and the food here never disappoints. If I was given one last meal, it would be from Bohanan's. The best steakhouse in San Antonio is hands down Bohanan's. After every major personal event, I'll go here for a steak meal that is truly unforgetable. You are treated with the classic steakhouse service right from the get-go. White table cloths, servers in jackets, table scraping between courses, and table-side flambeed desserts to finish the night. I've had nothing less than excellent service here the 5+ times I've dined at Bohanan's. It's always been for dinner in their main dining section, so I can't speak to their bar downstairs. However, I imagine it's just as stellar. The service is top-notch, highly attentive, and extremely knowledgeable. The food is beautifully cooked, perfectly timed, and served at the precise temperature. The portions are huge, and they are not skimping out on anything. The prices are hefty, but oh so worth it. I recommend above all else the ribeye (medium-rare or cooler), creamed spinach, and any variation of their mashed potatoes (original, herb, roasted garlic, goat cheese especially). If you want to have an experience like no other, then pay the pretty penny (and ask your spouse for permission!) for any of the A5 steaks they carry. The A5 ribeye is without a doubt the most life changing food I've ever had. Even one bite will open your eyes, make your mouth crave for more, and leave an impression on your palate that can never be removed. It was so smooth, creamy, buttery, and tender. It truly did melt in your mouth. If you don't want to spend $100+ on a single cut of A5-quality meat, you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Highly, highly recommend! read more

Was able to easily make a reservation online a week ahead of time for Friday night dinner. The Houston garage is the closest parking lot. However, I believe they offer valet as well. I was a bit worried we would be shunned to a corner and not treated with the same 5-star service I had read about online when they realized it was only me and my 2 year old son. I wouldn't normally recommend bringing a young child here for the sake of everyone else but I've taken our son out since he was small to nice restaurants and he's always done well, plus it was right across the street from the theater we were seeing a show at that night and a minute walk from the parking garage and since it was just the two of us at night downtown I wanted to eliminate excessive walking for our safety. Everyone from staff to guests complimented my son on how well behaved he was so I felt okay with our decision to dine in when we left. But keep in mind it's a very nice restaurant where people pay good money for a nice meal out so be courteous to others when making that decision. From the moment we stepped in until the time we left we felt like VIP. Everyone greeted us warmly, our glasses stayed filled, our table was attended to frequently, overall the service was impeccable as was the food. Before we made it to our table someone was already bringing a high chair. We split the 12 oz strip and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. They don't advertise a kids menu, but I was told when ordering they did have a kids sized portion of steak or chicken should we choose to go that route. The steak was a perfect med-rare with great flavor, served on a warm plate so it stayed warm throughout eating it without overcooking The steak. The potatoes were more than plenty to split between two people. The rolls brought out before hand were fluffy and the crostini with the candied jalapeno topping was quite good. I was asked to choose my weapon of choice (knife) to devour my steak with. And before it came out they brought a dainty glass with lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate between courses. They even brought my toddler one in a small ramekin. Our server was kind enough to let us know that if we were unable to finish our food and wanted to take it to go that they would box it for us and hold onto it until we got back from our show at the theater across the way. We opted to try a dessert before we left since we had time to spare. We went with a yummy brownie plate served with a spicy ice cream. They were kind enough to offer Belgium Chocolate as an alternative for my son which was appreciated because the other one while delicious was very spicy. Our waiter seemed to take a genuine interest in asking us what special occasion we were celebrating and our plans for the evening. (Mother's day date and the children's ballet) It made us feel special like they actually cared that we chose Bohanan's to dine at. My husband and I invited his parents here to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. The restaurant is beautiful, with a lovely and romantic ambience. We were greeted by last name up by various staff members until we were seated, enhancing the upscale experience. My husband and I arrived shortly after my in-laws in; he and I waited for our waiter to greet us and provide water for about 10 minutes. After our waiter finally arrived, we got our water and placed our orders. He and the other staff members who helped us throughout our dinner were very polite and professional. I ordered the crab cake entree, my husband got the ribeye, my in-laws each got a red fish dish, and we ordered potatoes au gratin for the table. It was all very delicious! When my husband booked our reservation, he indicated it was for my FIL's birthday, which our waiter knew about. He offered a variety of desserts, and we chose the cheesecake. Went to Bohanan's yesterday for my birthday. Made reservations for my wife and I noting that it was for a birthday occasion. From the hostess to the wait staff they greeted me with a happy birthday. It was a nice feeling that they remembered that detail. Caesar took care of us as if we were king and queen taking his time explaining the dinner specials, wine selections, and the different cuts of meat to alway making sure our glasses were filled. He even gave us complimentary champagne for my bday. He gave impeccable service and I thank him for making my bday dinner a pleasant one. Wife had the veal tenderloin and I had the 16oz ribeye with foie gras. Both cooked to a perfect medium rare plus. Foie gras melts in your mouth and the steak was tender and seasoned to perfection. Bohanan's was one of the bests fine dining experiences we've had in San Antonio. The minute we walked in the hostess greeted us with a smile and we were personally walked to the upstairs elevator. The ambiance modern chic and place and decor very classy. Once we reached the hostess area upstairs they very kindly greeted us and seated us with Meghan. Meghan was attentive to detail, gave us a full rundown of special menu items and guided us throughout our culinary experience. We started with both the scallops and the bacon appetizers. The scallops were tender, flavorful and delicate. The bacon crips, sweet and savory on the perfect arugula salad, just wonderful. Our entrees consisted of the Texas Wagyu steak as well as the 24 oz. Dry Aged NY strip accompanied with the goat cheese mashed potatoes and the truffle steak fries. All entrees were just amazing, the temperature to perfection, tender juicy and the meat just melted in your mouth. This is one of the best steakhouses we've ever visited and we've been lucky to enjoy several great restaurants in Miami, Naples and Marco Island, Florida. I took my husband there to celebrate his birthday because I've been there before for a medical seminar in the private rooms and loved it. Well the vibe, ambiance was perfect but for the money we paid (which is pricy) the food was ok. Not at all like I remember when I went with work. My husband took me here for a fancy birthday dinner. The only reason I cannot give it 5 stars is because we waited a while for our drinks and food and in my personal opinion if you're paying these kind of prices my expectations of service are very high. Our reservation was for 8pm we were escorted upstairs and seated promptly everyone was very polite and helpful so far. Once we were seated and given a water and a drink menu it took a while for our server to come and take our cocktail order around 10 mins. Then we waited a while, around 20 minutes to receive it. So in the 30 mins we waited for drinks we had time to look over the menu. My husband loves French onion soup so he got that to start and when it eventually came he said it was fantastic. I had a Caesar salad which was great. We decided for our main to order the chateaubriand for 2, it came with both Hollandaise and Béarnaise Sauces, Duchesse Potatoes, Jumbo Asparagus and Baby Carrots. It was delicious and I loved how they sliced it table side very fun to watch the presentation. So the food is top notch, the ambience and interior is very nice antique style furniture but tasteful. You are catered to and respected regardless of the money you spend here. 5 stars is fair, and to be absolutely fair, if you leave a 4 star review I can respect that, but a 3 star or lower probably tells me you had an issue and chose not to bring it up to the establishment which I'm sure they would be more than happy to fix, or possibly even over-pretentious. We had dinner here for the 1st time on Valentine's Day, and it exceeded our expectations. More than anything, the service and staff was exceptional! Every staff member I walked by said hello and backed up to allow room for me to pass by. They were so respectful and kind. I especially have to give a shout out to our waiter, Ofilio. I recently came here with my family for my birthday dinner. The place is on par with any classy steakhouse I've ever been too and overall was a great meal. They start the meal out with this complimentary cream cheese, honey and jalapeño dip that is delicious. They also bring out complimentary bread and butter. For starters, my gf and I both had a cup of the French onion soup. I really enjoyed mine but my gf thought it had a bit too much cheese. I kinda agree with her, but to me that wasn't a bad thing. For entrees, we ordered my 4 year old daughter chicken strips and French fries. They don't have an actual published kids menu but they do have a couple items meant for kids, chicken strips and and 4 oz petite filet. Also just to mention this is not normally a place that would be great for kids but depending on the kid it can be. My daughter was surprisingly well behaved and quiet throughout the meal and all the staff and surrounding guests were quite surprised to see a kid so we'll behaved there. They went out of their way to make sure she was happy and taken care of. Anyways, back to the food: My gf and I got the Chateaubriand for two. Usually I'm a ribeye guy and my gf doesn't really do steak at all, but you don't often see chateaubriand on most menus so we went for it. We both ended up really enjoying it. It was super tender and flavorful and went great with the béarnaise and hollandaise sauce they bring out with it. The potatoes that came with it were also great. We also got a side of the lobster creamed corn. My gf said that was probably the best creamed corn she ever had and I would probably have to agree. We saved a little room for dessert but when the waiter told us what was available that night we were a little disappointed not to hear the bananas foster or cherries jubilee that has been mentioned by other diners here on yelp. Entree orders were placed and the cocktail rounds were plentiful . We had fun! A wide variety of entrees were ordered; from steak to seafood. All were beautiful plated and everything tasted terrific. I ordered the macadamia crusted red snapper with a side of mashed potatoes w/goat cheese. The restaurant offers a variety of mashed potatoes. The food and experience were all so wonderful that as full as we all were we ordered bananas foster for the table. Woo hoo!
