The steak fajitas were incredible. The delicious smell of meat hits you when this dish comes out of the kitchen on a steaming sizzling plate with mushrooms, onions, and peppers. Lalo has such a fun menu. We got the Mexican bibimbap and the fajitas. The fajitas had tons of fresh veggies and were not overly oiled like many places. The bibimbap was so flavorful! It is an interesting take on the Korean dish and was served in a massive stone bowl. I got it with tofu which was deliciously seasoned. We also tried the chips and salsa appetizer. The salsa was wonderfully garlicky and a little spicy. The chips came out hot - a little too fried for me but so tasty! I love all the vegetarian options and can't wait to try more. What an amazing find! Food - legitimately unique and solid. From the solid fries to the great cook on the pork belly to the real flavor in the sides with the tacos, this was a skilled foodie's latin food haven in the middle of Cincy. Cocktails - 11/10 best in town. They took the time to make their own homemade syrups, but they were flavored and BALANCED, not just sugar bombs with booze. The balance of spice / salt / sweet / sour / booze in their mezcalita and margarita were truly enjoyable. Service - TJ is a rockstar. I'm writing an update in acknowledgement of the owner's response. I hesitate to take their explanation as truth, as the insect-in-question was firmly in the middle of packed rice in a carry-out container. It was spotted as soon as I started to spoon out rice and there was no space for a fly to have entered the packed-together food prior, nor was there any time for a gnat in my office space to have landed on my food and died, let alone get crushed and wet as if packed in with the food. The dishes were good so I'll add a star in recognition of that I suppose, but both the bug and the deflection of possible blame left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Love Lalo! I'm obsessed! My boyfriend and I went twice on our two day trip! We love the variety of options and that each dish is filling and oh so flavorful! I had the chicken empanadas ( the curry dipping sauce is to die for), mexi miso spicy ramen with carnitas and my boyfriend got the curry chicken burrito and the chipotle udon. Visited LALO last night and after a delicious dinner (must try the Mexican pad Thai) with incredible service (shout out to Paola for being attentive, fun and giving amazing recommendations!), we discovered cincys best kept secret for desserts, The Pitt Stop Sweets & Treats by Jaia! The Pitt Stop is most known for their banana pudding (which was great!), but I personally couldn't get enough of this strawberry lemonade cake (whip cream on the spoon because I started to dig in before I got the pic ) . The desserts are all made locally by a sweet, positive and ambitious dad + daughter duo here in Cincy, and the bakers and treats are truly top notch. Mad a last minute reservation for a Saturday night based on a coworker recommendation. We arrived and were the only ones in the place. We started with an order of fried zucchini. Although they were a bit on the oily side, they were delicious nonetheless. My tacos were good. 5 stars for the coconut shrimp and curry chicken. The mushroom taco was bland. My wife ordered the mofongo with shrimp with a kale salad on the side. This was the star of the night. The dish was well seasoned with a nice kick. Shrimp were plentiful and perfectly cooked. Though not a big fan of kale, it added nice texture to the dish. Definitely substantial enough to share or bring home leftovers. We'll be back. Two mofongo, please! read more

Lalo was on my list for a long time, and for Cincy taco week, their menu lured me enough to try it first! Lalo is conveniently located at downtown on Main St. There's plenty street metered parking options available. As we entered Lalo, the interiors don't have a consistent theme as such. It's decently spaced though, with a bar area too. It took us sometime to get seated, and get water, and give our food orders, and get food. Our server was obviously nice and polite, but the entire place was manned by 3 people. One handling the reception, and tables. The others making drinks, and tending to tables. They were definitely short staffed. Not sure if it was an one off time thing. Food? Was that worth it? I got the curry chicken, sesame ginger tofu, and honey Chipotle chicken. I forgot to mention flour tortillas, and the default is corn. If you prefer flour, mention that in the order. The flavors in sesame ginger and honey Chipotle chicken were very mild, almost felt like i was eating plain tortillas. The curry chicken was a savior. I expected much more. We had our company happy hour at Lalo. It was amazing!! Can't recommend this place enough. The owner was extremely nice and patient and worked with me to have the right food and drinks. Their spicy margarita was delicious. The bar tender can also make anything you want! The food was also amazing. The guacamole was so fresh and it was gone in a few minutes! Chips were crunchy! My husband and I went to LALO last night for date night. Let me tell you from the vibe to the food to the service, everything was perfection! It is an Asian Mexican fusion. We ordered the wings (tasty sauce, crispy outside and juicy inside,) Mexican Caesar salad, Mexi Pad Thai with carnitas meat (the meat was SO tender and juicy,) and a tofu and vegetable burrito. The portions are huge! I ordered a picante margarita and my husband got an Opera Cream Stout. The bartender came over to personally check on the quality of our drinks. I had been looking forward to trying Lalo. When I finally did, I did not have a great experience. I will say that the food, once we received it, was quite good. The rest of the experience, unfortunately, was not. One thing that may have irritated me more than it should have: every table held a stand alone menu of daily specials. I was there on a Thursday so I ordered the Thursday special, the Burrito. I asked the server what vegetables were in the Mixed Vegetable Burrito. She did not know and went to ask the kitchen. When she came back she informed me the special was only offered during lunch. As you can see in the attached photo, the menu (on every table when I was there) says, "Daily Specials", not "Lunch Specials" nor are there any restricted hours indicated. There were other issues - getting our table, getting served and the bathroom was a mess - but the Daily Special debacle really riled me up. Change the menu to correctly indicate what and when the specials are offered or remove the menus all together when they are not available, but don't give me a menu of daily specials, then tell me i cannot order them. read more

I had never even heard of Lalo when we booked reservations on OpenTable, but found out later that it's been around for years. I looked at the menus, and saw some interesting vegetarians choices, and I usually don't have many choices beyond a veggie burger. I can tell you that this was one of our favorite meals this year. The place is beautiful. It was packed. We even made the comment that we probably wouldn't get our drinks or food for a while. But that wasn't true. The service was great. Fast. Good. You know... I'm just gonna come out and say it... Lalo is underrated. Don't get me wrong, they clearly are getting great reviews, but I feel like maybe they're not the best about telling everyone about the awesome things that they're doing. On my most recent visit, we ordered the Jalapeño Lime Fizz to start. This is a non-alcoholic but super delicious drink with just a little bit of a kick. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try (I'm also curious if they ever add a little booze to it). For my meal, I ordered the curry chicken burrito which was roughly the size of a small child. The Indian-inspired burrito was delightful and I kepy shoveling in another bite because it was just too delicious to stop. I feel like in the past I've been overly critical of Lalo, but after my last visit, I think I might be a believer. Moved to the lovely Queen City about 9 months ago, and (hot take maybe, I don't know) Lalo is in my top three of restaurants I've tried since I got here. Maybe it's the casual and friendly ambiance that could also accommodate a date after the Aronoff. Maybe it's the delicious and unique food at every corner of the menu. Maybe it's because it's a block away from where I live? I'm going to go with all three. It's not all that easy to pull off Mexican-Asian fusion, especially when fusion means they don't just have both - they combine the two. But Lalo absolutely nails it. Now, I consider myself a curious eater. I usually get a new dish every time I go to a place. But not here: I keep coming back to the Mexi Pad Thai, now 4 times over, because it's that darn good. Pad Thai with some corn and peppers right out of your Mexican fried rice dish makes for a combination that is way more bueno than asi-asi. The drinks are a plus, too. I got a brew called Elvis Juice because how can you pass up a beverage with such a name, and my plus one got a cocktail that came out in what could only be a goblet or chalice it was so big. Very good guacamole and fresh chips for starters. I ordered the chicken chorizo plate. Delicious flavors from South of the Border in the chorizo and cheese, combined with the grilled vegetables laced with an Asian flare of a teriyaki nature filled my mouth with joy. The chicken breast patties could have been a little more tender but I still loved the dish. My guy ordered the Asian BBQ Burrito. I didn't get to taste it as I was too busy enjoying my plate but he says it was good. There was a small piece of paper he discovered while chewing his burrito. He's so kind not to have complained about it, though. You can bring your own beverage if you choose as they seem to have a very limited selection at the moment. A couple of courier services also visited for their customers. Take out is contained in styrofoam so that might be an issue. It is for me. It was a full house, thanks to several reservations made prior to our arrival but we managed to get a high-rise table at the window. This made service a little slow between the two gentlemen who interchanged servicing us. We took advantage of the 20% off for checking in on Yelp. We had a great meal and beverage at Lalo Chino-Latino before the FC Cincinnati game Saturday. We picked this restaurant for how close it was to the stadium and the vegan and vegetarian dinner choices. Parking at that time was a little difficult to find but not impossible. The ambiance is of the restaurant is a nice simply designed bar. Our server was very good but was very busy with the dinner rush. The food is very good and plentiful. So this restaurant has an interesting Asian and Mexican fusion. I went during Cincinnati Taco Week with some coworkers for lunch. They were definitely not staffed for the amount of people coming in that week, so we had a long wait, but they were apologetic and the weather was great, so we enjoyed sitting outside. This place has been high on my to-do list because Asian Mexican Fusian is my absolute favorite!! So when I knew I'd be downtown and in need of sharing some small bites with friends, I figured I should drop by for happy hour. The three of us essentially had the place to ourselves. We didn't take long to decide - the happy hour sampler and the Queso. My friend Mr. K ordered a tea, which was served in a press which was a nice presentation. Not long after his tea, our food appeared. I was so excited to dive in! Chicken Curry Empanadas - the Empanadas in their own had absolutely no flavor of curry. They were filled with shredded chicken that didn't have a a distinctive flavor of their own. But there is a curry sauce on the side that's absolutely delicious! I will warn that it has a little kick of heat, so be prepared. Pork Potstickers - much more satisfying than the Empanadas as they had their own flavor and the Asian dipping sauce was simply a nice addition. I will note that these are served steamed. Veggie Spring Rolls - Probably my favorite on the plate! Crispy on the outside and soft, flavorful veggies on the inside. Queso - you can't go wrong with this stuff! So I couldn't wait to try this out with my husband and so I was excited he wanted to go tonight! We got there about 6:15 and were greeted immediately. At the time there was only one other table there. By the time we left there were 7 or 8 tables sat. I am obsessed with corn and was super excited to try the elite....but they were out which was a disappointment but must speak volumes to how it tastes so can't want to go back and try that. Instead of corn we got wings and they were so good! SO FREAKING GOOD. I could have had two plates of them. For my meal, I had the drunken brisket noodle soup. It was a bit bland the broth and brisket didn't have as much flavor as I'm use to in a ramen type bowl but had great potential. My husband had three tacos. He liked the brisket and carnitas but said the curry didn't taste good (but curry is a specific flavor that isn't for everyone). Fortunately our waitress let him swap it out with the Al Pastor (no pic it was gone too quickly) which was delicious so I had some too and it definitely tasted great. I think I found a new favorite lunch spot! For just about $10 each a friend and I shared two items (The spicy curry ramen and Mexi Bibimbap*) that were both outstanding. I appreciate Lalo for its unique fusion menu. It is quite cheap in terms of food, with an average of $12-$15. I ordered three different tacos: Drunken Brisket, Curry Chicken, and Fish Tempura. All three were delicious and I was very full after finishing them. My favorite was definitely the Fish Tempura which had a nice crisp to it. While the tacos are great, I urge ordering the proper Drunken Brisket dish as it was absolutely delicious. It is placed over fries that go perfectly with the gravy in the Drunket Brisket. I also tried the Curry Chicken which tasted very Thai and clearly had Coconut Milk in it-- also delicious. Portions: The dishes are huge and you might even have enough to take home for leftovers! Stopped by for dinner on Black Friday at their new location, which was nice and bright with high ceilings and several colorful murals on the walls. I hadn't been to their old location, but several family members had and they preferred the new space. What a hidden gem! 5/5 from start to finish. Apparently this Asian/Mexican blend is catching trend, and after visiting Lalo I'm Here For It. My friend and I went on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too busy at all -- and they were v friendly there! I ordered 2 fish tacos and the chicken curry taco (I was v curious - and pleasantly surprised). Their motto should be: 'really, really good tacos' if you ask me. They have so many menu options it can feel overwhelming. But also, if you're looking for almost anything on the Asian/Mexican spectrum, they probably have it or something similar. I'd suggest the tacos, or the pork dumplings. I also want to try their Mexi Bibimbap! Service wasn't too shabby, could be better but I'd still give them a 5/5. Ambiance was great. Food was delicious.
