Came here for a special occasion birthday dinner. There were three of us, which I think is the perfect number for tapas. We were welcomed warmly and seated at what I think is the very best table in the restaurant. It's the booth that feels like you're almost in your own private room. It kind of hugged us into our own little world and was perfect for a birthday dinner. Then there was Joel, the loveliest of servers. Fun, funny, knowledgeable about the food and just delightful. Joel gets five stars all by himself. We all started with the El Luchador cocktails. They were SPICY. Probably a touch too spicy for some people, but we loved them. Now, I'll be honest. When I first looked at the menu, I was concerned. I don't like goat cheese. I know, I know. I like ALL the other cheeses, just not goat cheese. And this is a goat cheese heavy menu. But I jumped to conclusions because there turned out to be plenty for me to eat. We started with the PAN CON TOMATE. Get this. It's amazing. It seems like it should be simple, but they've somehow elevated it to another level. SANDÍA CON MACHA. This is one of those dishes where you imagine someone in the kitchen putting these flavors together and asking, "Is this good?" And the answer is YES. ACEITUNAS ALIÑADAS Y QUESO MURCIA AL' VINO. They were kind enough to keep my olives from mingling with the goat cheese. The olives I had were meaty and delicious. MEJILLONES CON VINO. My FAVORITE. The mussels were fantastic, but the fennel and that dreamy broth were what really did it for me. PULPO. I tried it. It was delicious. Eating octopus just freaks me out because they're so smart. This is not Mita's fault. This is between me and the octopus. TOSTADA DE CANGREJO. My second favorite thing of the night. A party-in-your-mouth situation. YUM. TACOS DE CORDERO. I didn't eat these, but the others in our party were very happy. BROCHETAS DE POLLO. By this point we were FULL, but these were still very good. Tender, nutty and just the right amount of kick. Overall, the flavors here are unexpected in the best possible way and clearly created by someone who really knows their stuff. If you're up for a culinary adventure, this is absolutely the place. And even if you're not particularly adventurous, there are plenty of delicious things here that can make a special night feel even more special. TL:DR good service, decent food, nice ambiance for dates or fun group dinners. Not the best tapas and at this price point, I wanted a little more but all in all fine, not great. This spot was close to our hotel so we made a reservation for a group dinner here. It's a nice looking restaurant with fitting decor that doesn't feel overly stuffy but has a colorful elegance to it. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful with the menu. We ordered a variety of items, including the empanadas, the plantains, 2 ceviches, cheese plate, chicken skewers, and mussels. The empanadas, standard ceviche, and skewers were good. The rest were pretty meh. See my pictures for more but it was a very uneven meal. I got the cheesecake for dessert and it was slightly frozen in the middle. All in all, it's a good restaurant but not great as the food was inconsistent. But if you want to come on a date or for a group dinner, it's worth the visit. Just be selective of what you get. read more

Came in with friends to take advantage of the Chase Sapphire OpenTable benefit, and the entire experience exceeded expectations. Our waitress was phenomenal--her recommendations were spot-on. The shrimp ceviche, Secreto de Ibérico, and tostones with guacamole were top recommendations. She also had impeccable timing, pacing everything perfectly so that plates complemented each other. The space itself is just as impressive--beautifully designed with thoughtful details throughout, like individual coat hangers at each booth. There were only 3 of us, so we figured ordering a few plates would suffice... except when our server told us we would need way more. We were a bit surprised to be told that everything basically came in twos or was a very small portion! My husband and I chose Mita's restaurant and bar for our eight year wedding anniversary dinner because it is part of the Chase Sapphire, reserve dining program and because it had been on my bucket list for a long time. We parked on a nearby street pretty easily. We were a minute late for our reservation, but the restaurant was kind and accommodating. We were impressed immediately upon entering as the interior is gorgeous. I loved every bit of the decor. I also found the temperature of the restaurant to be unusually comfortable. Most of the time I have to wear some sort of sweater or occasionally I am far too warm, but this was just right. Our server greeted us right away and gave us the perfect amount of time to make our decisions and look over the menu. He gave us recommendations, but didn't pressure us into ordering anything particular. Ultimately we landed on the goat cheese stuffed peppers, the Iberico pork flank steak, the green pea pupusa, and the jerk chicken skewers. Everything was delicious, but the jerk chicken skewers won by a landslide for both of us. I would recommend someone looking for good jerk chicken in Cincinnati pay Mita's a visit. The other dishes were also delicious. The Iberico pork flank steak was my second favorite dish. Each slice of steak tasted like a thick cut of bacon. Very flavorful. The pupusa was good and had some sort of herb or micro greens on top that I wish I had in my refrigerator to add to everything. The goat cheese stuffed peppers were very tasty and I asked my husband to try to make something similar at home because I don't think I could order them again given the portion size for the cost. For dessert, we had a hard time choosing because it all sounded great, and I was in the mood for dark chocolate. However, my husband has more of a sweet tooth, so I let him choose. He chose the tres leches. It was very good, but is just too rich of a dessert for me to eat much of, so we ended up leaving a bit. We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was delicious and filling! Their cocktails were super yummy (I had the margarita clarificada and my husband the old fashion). We got a salad, 1 special, the empanadas, and the tacos and it was plenty for the two of us. We had an early reservation but it was still really busy. The staff was attentive and on top of it, with one main waitress for our table but her peers would drop our food and drinks as they were ready at the service bar. We came good a dinner before a show and wow, what an excellent meal! We ordered the Seafood Paella immediately because it takes some time to cook. In the meantime we got the warm olives and goat cheese as a starter. We got a bunch of other fresh dishes like their jicama/green mango salad (very okay, a little light on flavor) and their venison crudo - so so good and great flavor. The paella was fantastic and had so much seafood in it, nice charred rice, great flavor. We also got patatas bravas and pulpo. The pulpo octopus is a must-eat. It comes cut up in very tender pieces on light fluffy mashed potato - seriously so good. We were stuffed after trying everything. Highly recommend! Mita's is my all time favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. So when my friends were visiting Cincinnati for the first time, I knew I had to bring them here. I come here often and always for special occasions like my birthday, as I'm never disappointed. The restaurant atmosphere is very modern and the windows make it an amazing spot for the sunset time when light hits the rooms. However, it looks upscale, but is casual. You don't have to be dressed up to feel comfortable here. You see people dressed up for special occasions and also in casual Reds clothing. The waitress and staff was so friendly and accommodating. They went above and beyond. My friend spilled her drink on the table and they were apologizing even though it wasn't their fault at all, and they came with napkins and towels right away. They even replaced her drink with a fresh new one! She got the MEJOR MANERA and it was amazing. So refreshing. I had a spicy non alcoholic drink as I was exhausted from the day and it was refreshing and amazing. The spice is perfect. We ordered a bunch of dishes for us to all try and share. There were 3 adults sharing. We got started with the cheese board. My favorite was the CABRA AL' ROMERO with the membrillo with the rye chips. The VACA AÑEJO also has a nice nutty flavor which I liked. The VALDEON was my least favorite due RJ the pungent flavor but is still a very smooth and creamy cheese. We then got our stuffed peppers with goat cheese (PIMIENTOS PIQUILLO RELLENOS) which were fantastic. Perfect Sherry glaze and melts in your mouth. The CALCOTS were also refreshing. When it said spring onions with sauce I wasn't expecting it to taste so good but the charred flavors with the romesco sauce is delicious. The shrimp Ceviche was next and I love the citrus flavors with the plantain chips but I think I like the fish of the day ceviche best. The corn nuts were interesting with the ceviche. We then got our PULPO and CRUDO DE VIERAS. The Pulpo was very interesting with the foam mashed potatoes, however, the seasoning for the octopus was a bit too salty for my taste. The scallops were my all time favorite. They melt in your mouth and had amazing flavors with the jalapeño balanced with the cherry yuzu. I could have had 10 of these alone. We then got the TACOS DE LENGUA. This was my 2nd favorite item and I was hesitant to get it but the waitress said it was very good and recommended it. She said the beef tongue wasn't chewy and tough but the way they cook it it's soft and she was absolutely correct. What I loved most was the combination of flavors with the watermelon and mint and the pico de gallo. These are a must try. At the end we got the LUBINA RAYADA which is my 3rd favorite item of our meal that day. The fish was fantastic and fresh. The roasted carrots paired so well along with the cilantro oil and carrot spread. The young coconut added a nice crunch and freshness as well. We were absolutely stuffed after all these dishes we didn't get dessert but they all looked amazing as always. I can't wait to be back it Mita's for my next foodie adventure! read more

I'll start with the weakest part of this place (which still isn't bad mind you!)...the atmosphere. It's decent, but everything else was exceptional, so that's the "worst" part. (Or, it's better than it might look from the street.) Service was absolutely top notch. Our waitress guided us through the menu options, always helpful, never insistent, made sure drinks were done right, etc. We ordered the chorizo and some potatoes and the paella platter, and wrapped it up with their cheesecake and tres leches. I ordered a margarita with my meal, and it was well flavored (although we personally tend to make mine a bit stronger, but this is expected for any restaurant). I expected better. We have been wanting to dine at Mita's for a long time. We finally made it and had dinner with my nephew and his wife. Our reservations were early and we were just about the only patrons in the restaurant. The restaurant is indeed beautiful. The seating is varied and the restaurant is laid out in an interestingly unique way. The full windows provide a nice view of downtown. My nephew started off with three cheeses and an assortment of breads. We let them focus on this one, but we did have a small taste. Everything was good. We ordered Pan Con Aceite de Olivo y Salsa Romesco. I found this to be the best bite we tasted. Each of the three breads were unique and delicious. The olive oil and romesco sauce were fantastic. This dish comes highly recommended. Next on deck was Ensalada de Jicama y Mango, another very tasty dish. The Ceviche del Sia was tangy and delicious. The Pulpo was okay. I order octopus whenever I see it on a menu. I knew I was ordering this well before we arrived. The rest of the table was initially not interested, but after trying it they all found it quite good. I, on the other hand, was disappointed. The dish could have been made with anything, by which I mean the octopus itself was difficult to discern. It was very cheese and potato heavy, which made it yummy for the rest of the table. I suppose I'm an octopus purist and this dish didn't meet my expectations. The sliders were good. The were small, naturally, but were quite juicy. The fried pork belly tacos were tasty and they were spicy! One diner at the table, who does not care for spicy food, took a bite and was sorely upset. That said, for anyone interested in a dish with a kick, this is it. Even though I'm not a huge fan of spice, I'd give it a thumbs up. One of the better and larger dishes was Arroz Chafe de Pato - duck fried rice, grilled pineapple, celery root, duck egg, lucuma-hoisin sauce. There was enough for everyone to enjoy and it was very good. It was time for dessert, which included Tarta de Chocolate - spiced dark chocolate tart, pepita crust, dulce de leche, cinnamon whipped cream. If I recall, my nephew's wife enjoyed this dish. Two folks had Tarta de Queso - cheesecake with cherries. Both found it to be okay and a little dry. I had two dips of the ice cream. It never seemed to melt; it was disappointing. Overall the food was very good. Where the meal fell down was the way the servers managed the table. Our plates were not replaced between dishes, which left us with the remains of the previous dish intermingled with the next. I expected more from such a high end, expensive restaurant. Our plates and silverware should have been cleared and replaced often. This never happened. The food was good. The service was lackluster. For a meal I'd been anticipating for a long time, I was disappointed and won't likely return. That said, I think everyone should give Mita's a try. There were definitely some high points and I admit there were items on the menu I wish I'd tried. read more

My favorite was the bread (PAN CON ACEITE DE OLIVA Y SALSA ROMESCO), hands down. I believe they are both recent additions to the menu: the jerk marinated chicken thigh skewers (Brochetas de Pollo) and the venison carpaccio (Venado Crudo), were incredible. Everything was just okay until dessert. They brought out the almond cake. It was warm, rich with just the right amount of frosting. I can only relate it to a warm hug from a loved one. Mita's is one of the premier restaurants of Cincinnati and headed by chef Jose Salazar. The environment is gorgeous and the service is very helpful. Chef Salazar swings for the fences with his creativity and hits the mark most of the time. The mango and watercress salad as well as rhe ceviche were very fresh, tangy, and flavorful. The textures were phenomenal and set a great precedent for the rest of the meal. That being said, the ceviche was a bit too sour for my liking. The patatas bravas were smoky and crispy and fluffy on the inside and some of the best potatoes I have ever had. The mole and blue masa dish was incredible; very rich, deep flavors balanced well by multiple textures. The hominy seafood stew was good, but mot great. The seafood was fresh and the dish was very ambitious with heavy flavors but the broth was too strong to be enjoyed as the base of a soup and would have been better as a sauce. We were staying at the hotel across the street and were looking for a nice place for dinner. Yelp reviews led us here and we had an excellent meal! We were 2 people who ordered 2 tapas plus ice cream for dessert. We had the shrimp ceviche with plantain chips, goat cheese stuffed peppers, pork belly tacos, and patatas bravas. Overall, not impressed by their main courses but a few good dishes. My husband tried their drink with Cachaça and loved the tart passionfruit. He also asked for a pisco sour which was done properly. So the drinks were on point. We also had their most popular dishes, the pulpo and the jerk pollo as well as tostones and shrimp ceviche. The shrimp ceviche was very good, refreshing and bursting with flavor while the tostones was just okay. The pulpo, supposedly their most popular dish, was terrible! I guess it could just be a one off, but it was super salty. Literally tasted more like salt and cheese than octopus. The potato puree had a lot of cheese, so imagine a salty cheesy potato puree with chunks of meat with a bit of fishy taste. And we normally absolutely love pulpo. The jerk pollo was very tasty, a little salty as well, but still pretty good. Lastly, for desert, the Alfajor was amazing and the tres leches cake was also extremely well done. These were both very good and recommended. The place was elegant and modern and service was very good. No complaints here! Spectacular! This has to be on the best restaurants in America. Extraordinary craftsmanship and originality in everything from cocktails to salads, tapas and desserts. Jose Salazar is an exceptional talent and his skill is on display in every metric one could imagine from the ambiance to the staff to the bar to the menu to the service. It baffles me that reviews would suggest that in Cincinnati Boca is the more widely-regarded restaurant. Apparently Midwesterners appreciate stiff linens, stiff staff and a very ordinary menu over a far more exceptional experience at Mita's. read more

Stopped by this tapas bar across the street from my hotel because it seemed lively and I wasn't looking for a big meal. I sat at the bar and had the Ensalada Mixta salad with greens, hearts of palm, celery, and macadamia nuts. The mac nuts added a nice crunch and the dish was very tasty. I also had the two burger sliders, a miss. The meat lacked flavor and the sliced ham added dryness to the burger. Both plates are small--they recommend 2-3 plates per person and they weren't kidding. I'm not a big eater and left not full after two plates. Service from the bar staff was excellent. However, when the bill came there was a separate line for tipping the kitchen. The server made it a point to say the kitchen tip is "totally optional and not expected," like they're slightly embarrassed. I found this annoying and passive aggressive--the restaurant is trying to shift responsibility for paying kitchen staff to diners, same with servers over the years. I remember when the standard tip was 10%, and now we're the only place in the world where it's 20%+. What's next, tip lines for table bussers, door receptionist and janitor? I know kitchen staff is important but if management wants to recognize them it should pay them more and raise menu prices, then customers can decide where they want to dine. One star off for the sliders and one star off for tipping pressure. read more

My husband and I thought the food was very good! We ordered the JAMÓN SERRANO, empanadas, TETELA DE HONGOS, and the paella. I was disappointed in the empanadas to be honest. They didn't have that much flavor and really needed the sauce to make it worth while. The TETELA DE HONGOS was AMAZING! It was so unique I have never had anything like that before and it was delicious. The paella does take a while to cook as they state on their menu. So if you know you want this make sure you have plenty of time to dine there. We placed the order for it as we were getting drinks then spent more time figuring out our other dishes. read more

The service is absolutely wonderful. The staff is super nice, warm, and friendly. The pay attention to the needs of their customers. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and Friendly.
