I've had great experiences my two different visits to Louvino OTR. My first experience was for my birthday dinner with a group of six. My second experience was for an intimate Mother's Day brunch with my sister and my mom. I found the service to be excellent on both occasions. The drinks were always well prepared and their pricing was what I've come to expect for OTR. I preferred dinner because I really enjoyed the small plate options- this allowed everyone at the table to eat and experience a lot of different foods. I would like to shout out the biscuits. I am not a person who enjoys eating biscuits however, I found these to be excellent. They were light and not dense at all. This is a large space. My family went to LouVino on a Friday evening. I've been here a handful of times in recent years but I truly miss the old small plates format of the menu pre-pandemic. The food is still good but doesn't feel as special. We started with the loaded tots appetizer which is always tasty. For our entrees we had the steak frites, shrimp scampi linguine and the shrimp and scallop risotto. The steak portion seemed small but was cooked perfectly. The risotto was a bit too salty. The scampi linguine was probably the best dish. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. When I compare this restaurant to some of my favorites it just doesn't stack up to the level of tasty food and service that I expect. I'd say others agree since the restaurant was only half filled on a Friday night. I'd still recommend stopping here for drinks or happy hour. I just think there are better options nearby. read more

AMAZING dinner on Saturday. I've been wanting to go for awhile, and the stars finally aligned I started with the "cran you believe it," which was the tits. After the week I had, I ordered two. As a newly-minted fried green tomato enthusiast, I had to get an order to split with R. The pimento dip was lovely. Moving on to salads, R had his usual Cesar and I had the warm Brussels sprouts, which is one of their special house dishes...with good reason!! They were perfect. For mains he had the steak & frites and I had the scallop and shrimp risotto. Have I mentioned I'd cut a bitch for a perfectly grilled scallop?? Facts. I don't think I've had worse service from a restaurant than tonight. The level of incompetence of the employees is wild. It took Sarah 25 minutes to come to our table (of 9), another 40 minutes to just get drinks. Multiple open tables, so not a full place. Servers were wandering around with no care in the world. This was our first and last time here. Even our friends have come here said the service consistently gone down here and will not come back. No "sorry, running behind" - literally zero contact. We made reservations but it didn't seem as though that was needed. I ordered the Smoked Maple Old Fashioned and my daughter ordered the Nearespresso Martini. Both cocktails were very good. We both chose the Umani Double Smash Burger. The burgers were overly salty and very, very dry. Definitely not what I was expecting with the word 'Umani' in the title description of the burger. The bacon was crispy and the toppings fresh. But the bun was overly chewy for some reason and the burgers dried out. All of that was bad enough for $19 each - which is already overpriced - but I was overcharged for the burgers. I didn't realize it until I was home late last night after the play. I was charged $44 for two burgers! $22 each! The online menu and the menu we were given last night shows the burger as $19. So, I was charged an extra $3 per dried out burger on a chewy bun. If the dry burger wasn't enough to keep from returning - the overcharging for an already overpriced, overcooked burger definitely did it. read more

The space itself is really cool--lots of character and clearly some thoughtful design choices that give it a unique vibe. We ordered Brussels sprouts and they're not properly cooked, they were very hard to chew. The fries were good with ranch. Made a reservation here for a Saturday morning for 4 at 10am (when they open). We were seated promptly and the restaurant was quite empty. We got an assortment of items including the biscuit board, Brie stuffed French toast, Quiche Lorraine. The portion sizes were adequate and the food was delivered promptly. Overall, the food was decent. I can't say I have any particular critiques of the food, it just did not blow us away. The biscuits were maybe a little too dense, the Brie stuffed French toast felt more like a Brie grilled cheese than French toast. We didn't get any breakfast cocktails, but that list looked pretty tasty. My personal favorite part of the meal were the stuffed tater tots. The ambiance is nice, but very approachable, so casual and smart casual dress will be comfortable for all. The food was fine, nothing that was epic, but also great for the price point. My wife found the Cacio e Pepe a bit unique in purses and a bit heavy, but fine on the whole. We had a great dinner at LouVino OTR before visiting the Cincinnatk Shakespeare Company. Our dinner took longer than we anticipated, so I suggest being upfront about any timing issues you might have. The staff took great care of us and we can wait to go back. Our appetizers were excellent- the loaded tots were delicious. I had the Louisville's Sunset mocktail; it was a little sweet for my taste but I think it would have been perfect if cut with soda water. My husband had the old fashioned (happy hour til 6:30 on Friday!) and said it was perfect. We were in a rush for dinner, so no pictures. I had the salmon - it was excellent though the potato gratin was heavy after we'd already had two potatoes for appetizers :) My husband had the cacio e Pepe with steak on the side. He said it was done really well and can't wait to go back when we have more time to slow down with our dinner. I'll start by saying the food was really good. I had the vegetable risotto with grilled chicken. We also had the fried chicken taco appetizer. The service was exceptionally slow and 45 minutes in without being waited on my friends and I were very close to leaving. It was a Saturday night but we did have a reservation and at one point the hostesses had no idea how long it was going to be. Not sure if they were disorganized or understaffed but it's a shame because it put a damper on what might have otherwise been a really nice night out. We did get a free dessert, the chocolate chip cookie dough beignets. The flavor of them was good, the texture of the beignet dough was a bit tough. I was able to snag a reservation through Open Table and we sat at a high top table near the bar. After ordering the Pete Rosé wine flight including 3 3-oz pours, we split the Truffle Parmesan Frites. Rating is for the brunch experience only. I was not impressed with either service or the food. I know restaurants have been short staffed since COVID so I am always a bit lenient there but it didn't seem to be the short staffing since the restaurant was not full capacity and there were lots of waiters and waitresses around. It took a very long time (20 min) for our waitress to come back after drink orders to take in app orders or any food. Then we waited 30+ min for the lite bites (just an order of the donuts) to come out and another 30-45 min for the meals to come out so we were starving by the time the food came out. The waitress didn't come by for drink refills often either. If we had known the kitchen was backed up so much we would have ordered more lite bites, but it took a long time just for that to come out so not sure it would have helped. When we finally got our food, was looking forward to the Cajun shrimp eggs Benedict. Was told there was a spicy kick to it. However, I didn't taste spice or Cajun at all..... the brussel sprouts were under cooked and very hard, the eggs not very locked and runny. The yolks were actually almost fully cooked..... all of this was over a bed of grits that you could barely get a spoonful of. The fried shrimp tasted very good but the rest of the dish was disappointing and not enough to fill you up. Since this was one of their specials for the day, was expecting much better. I don't think I'd come back for the brunch here based on this experience. I have been here for drinks and for a work event in the private space downstairs and have to say for dinner the Duck Fat Frites and bacon wrapped dates are delicious. I also really enjoy the Beignets as the bourbon ganache and vanilla anglaise that you can dip them in is delicious . I visited this restaurant for the first time this morning for brunch. I found the restaurant atmosphere wonderful: it was bustling but spacious and comfortable. I even loved the bathrooms: they're down the stairs, near the private dining area. There are only two stalls, but they're clean, roomy, and sturdily-built, with a (probably original-construction) brick wall on one side. I found my server equally wonderful. He dropped by often and went the extra mile in making sure I had everything I needed. He even gave me a generous "free sample" of the blueberry juice, to see if I'd like it before I ordered it, and came by often to check on me. Unfortunately, the only thing I was unimpressed with was the food itself. They were out of the shrimp and grits, which is what I had wanted to order (wait -- brunch is from 10am to 2pm, but you run out of a main dish at 11:30???). I was able to order the fried green tomatoes instead. My first impression was: These are fast-food fried green tomatoes; not gourmet restaurant fried green tomatoes. They definitely weren't right out of the fryer -- perhaps they were all made this morning and under a warming lamp ever since? Or maybe microwaved beforehand? They were small and hard, the breading was thick, they were barely warm and the tomatoes inside were hard to chew. The accompanying dips - a vinaigrette and something pinkish that was probably Thousand Islands dressing were just okay. For my entree I ordered the Salmon Protein Bowl, which ended up being something between a salad and a charcuterie board. It was absolutely huge, served on a big black plate, and consisted of more greens than quinoa and faro, with thick slices of fantastically fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, a poached egg, and a mashed avocado mixture on the side, and topped with a medium-sized piece of salmon. The problem was that nothing was seasoned: the so-called "grilled salmon" didn't have any grill marks or char on it, nor did it have any flavor, though the fish itself was very fresh and was delicious when taken home and seasoned properly. None of the other ingredients were salted or given any other flavoring as well, though they were fresh and of good quality. The "bowl," which was really a salad, didn't have enough dressing on it (if any) to taste. It tasted much better when I poured my Fried Green Tomatoes vinaigrette on it. If I was just rating the food, I'd give it a "3," and conclude that these are high quality ingredients with lackluster preparation and seasoning. Since the atmosphere and servers were so amazing, I'm bumping the score up to a 4. read more

I'm not one to complain about price, especially for good food. This was insanely overpriced for what it was in my opinion. The steak I ordered was supposed to be medium. I am writing this review chiefly because I could not find an up-to-date review with the latest menu items. Most of these menu photos are over a year old so here is the latest on LoVino OTR. For background my friend and I were looking for a brunch spot with a good deal on mimosas and LouVino did not disappoint! Service: Every worker we came across was very attentive and kind. From the moment we walked in we felt very taken care of- from the host, to the bartender, to our server, everyone provided great service! Due to how packed the restaurant was we had to wait for a table so we sat by the bar for a bit. We had small conversation with the bartender we got our drinks and only a few minutes later we were seated at a table. Ambiance: we arrived close to noon and the restaurant was packed and lively. The noise level was high but you could still carry on conversation even with the mimosas kicking in. The space itself if very warm and inviting, which was especially appealing given the cold weather! Food: We kicked off our meal with a few of the $6 mimosas! We followed it up with a pretty popular menu item - the Brussel sprouts: and these are a can't miss. The flavor was incredible, accompanied by corn, with a nice roast on them. I had the Bree French toast and my friend had the Veggie sandwich (one of our waiters personal favs). All of the food was delicious quick warning though - if you don't like Brie cheese do not get the French toast.
