We arrived about 15 minutes before our 5:00 reservation on a Tuesday night. There were a few folks at the bar, but the restaurant was empty. The hostess acknowledged us, noted our reservation and asked us to have a seat to wait for our table. I was okay with this, understanding we were early, but as soon as we sat down the hostess had menus and asked us to follow her. Hmm.. maybe we didn't need to be asked to have a seat and wait. We were seated in the room next to the bar by the window. The room was beautiful and quiet, and we enjoyed people watching. Our server, Melissa, was fantastic. Because we were the first customers in the restaurant, she had plenty of time to review the menu with us and have a bit of a chat. Before arriving I usually check out the menu. I'm not a fan of the way the menu is laid out on the website so I didn't spend a lot of time researching options. Melissa pointed out Ruth's 3 Course for $55. Given only one of the steaks served a la carte is priced slightly under $55, Mark and I both opted for the 3 course dinner. Melissa explained there are a lot of options. For an up charge of $5 we could get other options from the menu not listed as options for the deal. Mark and I both decided to order Ruth's Chopped Salad, which was very fresh and delicious. It was a good choice for $5. I ordered the filet, which I believe was 4 ounces and came with three grilled shrimp with a side of roasted brussels sprouts. The steak was done perfectly and was delectable. The shrimp were maybe slightly over grilled, but were still quite tasty. I wasn't a big fan of the brussels sprouts. I know this is going to sound crazy, but they tasted like brussels sprouts. Served with bacon and honey butter, I expected more of a 'wow', but nope. I shared a few with Mark, but in the end there were still two little sprouts left. Mark had the Stuffed Chicken Breast, which he said was fine. I wasn't extraordinary and it wasn't' bad, it was fine. He did enjoy the garlic mashed potatoes. One note, the plates on the table that we used for bread service along with the butter, napkins and the plate for the bread remained on the table as the salads plates were both served and picked up. They also remained on the table as dinner was served. Those three plates should have been removed when the salads were served. Instead, the table was only cleared after dinner and before dessert. We both enjoyed the cheesecake with fresh berries that came with the 3 course. Again, we could have opted for one of their 'regular' desserts for an additional charge. No need... the cheesecake was perfectly sweet and was the perfect ending to our meal. Anything larger would have been too much. Overall, our dinner was delightful. read more

It seems like everyone should check out Ruth's Chris at least once in their lifetime. I was recently invited to a small party/gathering at their Banks location. The atmosphere is roughly what you would expect: dimly lit, soft and dark surfaces, and ample room to enjoy your meal. However, this is not the coziest steak dinner spot in the Tri-State. It does give off a whiff of plug-and-play storefront dining. That said, the staff was fantastic. Our server handled our larger group with ease. They were calm and affable, knowledgeable and unafraid to give a suggestion when needed. They really had a good feel for the room. Unfortunately, I think the overall taste of the food is somewhat out of sync with the price point. There is not a menu item I could pinpoint that I would say was comparable to the best I've had. The Seafood Tower was fun, but the taste was just fine. Unseasoned and chilled seabugs that just seemed to lack the decadence you might associate with shrimp and lobster. The Wedge Salad's blue cheese to bacon crumble ratio didn't quite pop the way I had expected; and my filet was good, but not great and does not include any sort of complementary vegetable. All-in-all I can't complain, but if I'm looking for upscale dining in the near future, I would probably explore something new and different before giving Ruth's another whirl. read more

We had a reservation so we're seated right away upon arrival, despite the group of people waiting in the entryway for tables. Our server (Garrett) was excellent, communicative and attentive. The food was played well but some items lacked the flavor to take them over the top to a rating of "excellent". Spicy shrimp was very delicious, and not too spicy to enjoy for someone like me who actually doesn't like spice. Sizzling crab cakes needed seasoning. I had to intentionally scoop up those diced peppers in the plate to get more flavor into each bite. The stuffed mushrooms were well made but also lacked seasoning. Sides. We had asparagus, mushrooms, Brussel sprouts, and two orders of the sweet potato casserole. Everyone enjoyed theirs. Mine was the mushrooms; so good! Steaks. Everyone enjoyed theirs. We were a party of 4 and had a petite filet, a filet, a strip, and a ribeye. My husband added salt to his ribeye. I ordered my filet medium but it came out closer to rare. I was too hungry to return it so I powered through; it was buttery tender, and mostly okay on seasoning. However, I added thought my filet was fine, but it was taken over the top by adding the liquid from my mushrooms like a thin gravy/au jus. The one major complaint is how cold the dining room was. It was a very cold, lightly snowy day and the dining room, with its floor to ceiling windows, was freezing! My first, and my last, experience here was on my birthday in August, and it was less than stellar. Seated at the wrong table to begin with, and even though I pointed out the ones we asked for in the reservation to the server, we were left there, with nothing more than a shrug of his shoulders as he left. Our party was called by the wrong name three times. We ordered mainly non-alcoholic drinks, but my daughter had a signature cocktail. She said it was very good, but that's one of the few good points of the evening. We ordered. So my steak, a $70 Ribeye,was presented and it was overcooked. This is a steakhouse. This is one thing a restaurant that calls itself a steakhouse and charges high prices for, should get right, and get right the first time. But it was overcooked. So it was sent back. The overcooked steak took so long to replace that my three guests were done with their meals before I even got mine back (medium rare), so my daughter and my friends just stared at me at chit-chatted while I ate, at that point basically alone. Awkward. The second steak was done medium rare, as I asked. Oh yeah, I had a lobster tai with this. It was the same one that went back and it was returned cold. The creamed spinach was good. Other things: One small bread loaf, maybe 8 or 9 inches long, and two inches wide. For four people? And then the server took it away for some reason, even though about 25% of remained. No scraping of crumbs from the table. No clearing of plates as we finished. I've had better service at Denny's. My birthday was noted on the reservation and it was never even mentioned in passing. Likely because we were seated and they had their little "cheat card" wrong. I'm guessing that was on the card. And they never got the card. The reservation page on the website even said "What can we do to make your visit special" or something to that effect. Didn't see anything special. The manager came over and told me before we left that "Yes. Your steak was indeed overcooked. You were right." The server seemed like he was brand new. After he took my overcooked steak back to the kitchen, he returned five minutes later and asked "Just to make sure, you want us to have it cooked less, tight? I don't think he knew the appearance of the different temperatures of steak. Even after all that on my 65th birthday, nothing. No apology, no comped anything (I wasn't fishing for one). All of this with a total bill of over $100.00 per person (only one alcoholic beverage, remember). That evening was a really disappointing experience, from start to finish. I've been to a Ruth's Chris now. No need to ever go to one again. We have plenty of really nice steakhouses here in the Cincinnati area. Ruth's Chris isn't one of them for me. I made a reservation for 4p.m. arrived a few minutes early and to wait until exactly 4p.m. to be seated. Was seated in the front by the window which was ok the curtains by the window were very dirty. Our waiter seemed not to be engaged at all. I've been to several Ruth Chris and this one was by far the worse experience I've encountered, I was rather disappointed because I wanted to make a great experience and great atmosphere for someone who had never been to Ruth Chris! In all I will say that the food was ok not as good as I have had at the other locations. The only thing going for this Ruth Chris is the location. Oh yeah for the price you pay the portions are not sufficient. That evening was very disappointing experience, and I think that server's need to be trained better and presented better and for a restaurant like this I think everyone should be well presentable. Yelp really needs half stars (3.5 stars in this case)...I want to show there was slight improvement from my last encounter but it was also more of the same. I hadn't been back due to my experience at my last visit but tried to keep an open mind when my bookclub voted to have our annual Christmas party here this year. I honestly didn't even remember his name, but when my friend asked for a straw and he deep sighed seemingly with irritation, I was prompted to look at my previous review and lo and behold it was the same server. As per usual, the food was fantastic. That has never been the issue. Due to our party size/private room we ordered from a limited menu that we selected prior to our event. We loved everything from our appetizers down to the dessert. However, the little microaggressions that our party experienced from Lance last night just made things uncomfortable. He removed my friend's bread plate twice while she was still eating it and continued to try to take a plate at our end of the table before we were finished with it. I had to put my hand on the plate and let him know we are not finished and will let you know when we are. The simplest requests (ie a straw, a second cocktail, to have our dessert packaged to go, etc) all seemed like a terrible inconvenience and was just... off-putting. Will I be back to a Ruth's Chris in the future? I'm sure I will, I love the chicken and sweet potato casserole...perhaps I'll do another location/carry out though if this service continues to be the norm from their lead servers in Cincinnati. I really wanted to increase my star rating this time but I am VERY big on service and they missed the mark again. The assistant attendants were very friendly, perhaps it's time for a promotion for them. Always enjoy a celebratory evening out at Ruth Chris. The food is just extraordinary and the service is impeccable. Everything comes out hot and ready to eat and the courses are spaced out perfectly. The only reason this time I am giving this place 4 stars is the top three wine bottles there were out of, many types of meat were sold out and we order our steak medium rare and they came out well done. This was quickly rectified and our server was so wonderful about taking our concerns to the chef. The backbar is downright DIRTY. Food takes an hour. All would be fine if I wasn't paying top shelf prices. There are way too many great steakhouses in town to be disappointed here. Don't waste your money or time. Just go to J social across the street and get a solid taco at a fair price with quality service. We had a celebration this week at Ruth Chris downtown Cincinnati for 9 people. It was so disappointing. Food was good, but the experience was regretful, and I really don't get the impression that the staff really cares. They don't take food allergies seriously at all and gave no thought to serving a lobster tail to one of my family that would have killed her if we did not notice they screwed up. They reversed a steak and lobster allergy issue, and no one checked before it was served. Disappointing to say the least. One bite could have killed one of my family with a severe allergy and I don't think they care at all or understand the implications until they possibly do put someone in the hospital. They did give a 25.00 discount I didn't ask for, for the mix up, but that does not cut it when it's life and death over something so simple. The evening started off with a 5:15 reservation. We were all there at 4:55 and they made all 9 of us stand in the small entry way blocking everyone. They were not busy but had walk ins and they had our party stand there blocking the entry until 5:15 even though the table was ready and there was not one person in the dining room when we were taken to the table. People that showed while we were waiting that had 5:30 reservations were sat immediately while we waited. We had one family member that had back issues and walked with a cane and they still made us stand. Throughout the dinner they left two bussing tables with uneaten food piled up next to our table. These were right in the middle of the walkway for guests and people had to walk around them. They sat there for longer than 15 minutes each with dirty dishes and uneaten food while servers brought more food out for other tables and just worked around the dirty bus tables. They found time to fill up our water glasses though. I finally got up and spoke with the manager about the situation and she removed one of them. Spoke with her directly looked her in the eye and she never apologized, and I told her we get better service at Reb Lobster, you need to do better. Dinner also took over three hours with the mistakes and we were ready to leave well before the desert came out that also took 30 minutes to plate and bring to the table. Keep in mind this was early in the night and they were not busy. We asked to take two deserts home and they left those on the bus tables in the middle of the room until the entire party finished desert too. Regretfully, I would say avoid this Ruth Chris and find another in a different city. There are many more excellent steak houses with way better service in the city. This place should overhaul management if they want to stay in business. read more

One of the servers, Bryce, complained to a manager, Chris, that there weren't enough reservations to make it worth his time to work. So I suggested to Chris that he have the young man mop the floor since he had nothing to do. I came in a few days later and the same server, Bryce made a point to tell the bartender that he better make sure to mop the floors for me. He did this in a very loud, very disrespectful and rude tone. I called him in it and told him I would be happy to talk to a manger again, be he replied, "no, it's all good". We ventured downtown on Feb13th for Valentines dinner at Ruth's Chris. Our reservation was 4:00pm. My fiance and i arrived at 3:45 and the doors were locked. We stood at the doors figuring someone would let us in , it was very cold outside. There was a young lady just inside at the front desk. She looked up at us twice but never acknowledged us or opened the door. They opened the doors a couple minutes after 4p. I picked a card inside so i could later inquirer as to why the doors are locked till 4p if you take reservations for 4pm. We were then seated at a 2 top table in a corner just inside the large room upstairs nears the restrooms. Everyone else that was seated inside the large room was seated at the windows. Food was good and server was excellent. I then noticed an older man walking through the dining room. He then disappeared and within minutes he popped up from behind us from a long hallway. My wife said he's behind you. This gentleman did not introduce himself he then asked how our meal was. We finished our meal after a couple of coffees and left. I called the next day and got a recording so i left a message. I got a call back from the GM who i guess was the man that snuck up on our table. I asked why we were seated in a corner of an empty dining room and not at a window. He stated you could have asked for another seat. He then proceeded to tell me he saw me pick up a business card. Okay what was that supposed to mean? There were 6 other couples seated by the windows we were on the opposite side of the dining room in a corner by the bathrooms. I believe he was upset because i picked up the business card and they then sat us up where they did. If he thought he was intimidating us it didn't work . I've eaten at many RC in the past 20 years and have never gotten a bad meal. So it surprised me when our experience on Christmas Eve went so wrong. 1. Our service was slow. I say 'our service' as tables around us with other servers were being seated and reseated while we just waited and waited for our server. 10 minutes to greet us. 10 minutes to bring water. 10 minutes to bring our sodas. Almost 30 minutes in and we still had not ordered dinner! Overall, we were there almost 2.5 hours. 2. Food was less than desirable. Me and my friend both had filets...mine medium and hers well done. Person serving them seemed disinterested in what she was doing and about 4 bites in we realized that our steaks had been switched. I had the well done and she had my medium. Told the server...my friend opted to keep her steak and just took it home. Also, my steak plate had butter but was not sizzling. Her steak was on dry plate...no butter and no sizzle. My replacement steak was charred on the outside and cold and raw on the inside. But it was sizzling in butter so there's that. I didn't feel like dealing with it anymore so I just took it home and pan sautéed it. Baked potato skin was hard and crunchy and...in a first for this RC regular diner...the potato wasn't split, even after we made it clear we were sharing. The steak house salads and sweet potato casserole were both yummy and delicious...basically our dinner as neither of us ate our steaks. 3. My friend ordered creme brûlée for dessert. Same disinterested person who served our steaks plunked our dessert on the table and walked away. We had no silverware. We asked for a spoon and she brought us a fork. Hard to eat creme brûlée with a fork. We were only charged $5 for it because our steaks had been served wrong. 4. I was never offered a refill on my soda. (Maybe because I was also drinking wine?) My friend got a refill but it was the wrong soda. Overall a less than stellar experience. Our combined food/bar bill for TWO PEOPLE was almost $400 and neither of us actually ate our meal. I'm being nitpicky about some small stuff but that's the level of service I expect from RC. Don't know if I'll be back. read more

What's not to like at Ruth Chris? Nothing. Except they were so busy we couldn't eat there twice. Our bad...should have made a reservation. It is fancy here, but more casual during happy hour, which is fantastic I might add. Everything was oh so good and cheap as well. No wonder they're busy. That and large private parties both nights we were there. Bob had a beautiful burger, and I had shrimp. I think $8 each before drinks. I would be a regular if I lived closer. Located in the Banks, I've been told they're the only restaurant that has survived. Others struggle during "no game" periods. But this is a destination. The worst of it was- Our lobster mac and cheese had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. The lobster was dried up, as was the entire top of the dish. The temperature of the macaroni was luke warm. I broke through the hard surface of the macaroni to try it and it tasted rudimentary at best. I returned it and did not request another made in its place. We also got a 22 oz ribeye. It was no better than Outback Steakhouse, even though the price was much higher. The bread before the meal was good; the inside was soft and it arrived warm. The creme brûlée was not brûléed entirely, so there was a lot of sugar crystals on top, rather than the nice glass effect they usually have. The chocolate cake was dark and thick. The bread pudding was the highlight of the meal. It came warm, was soft, and had a lovely flavor. The berries tossed on the desserts were sour. The service was mediocre. When they scantily checked on us, they were nice. However, our drinks were constantly empty, and we would have to wait awhile to see someone to ask for things like a spoon for dessert, or to return the Mac and cheese. At the end of the meal, we saw the bill included the macaroni, so we requested it be removed. The server said his manager had okay'd that so he would rectify the bill. It was still an almost $200 dinner for 2 people. I would not recommend this restaurant. We've been to other Ruth's Chris locations and had a great time, which was why we chose this restaurant for my fiancé's birthday dinner. Unfortunately, this location really stinks. If you are in the Cincinnati area and looking for an upscale steakhouse, definitely try Carlo and Johnny's, Tony's, or Lonely Pine Steakhouse. They will be able to provide excellent service along with a meal that is special occasion-worthy. read more
