I'm sorry to say that I think The Capital Grille is a little overrated. I started off with an Espresso Martini (which is my weakness) and it was just middle of the line. The seafood risotto was also just alright to me. My husband ordered a steak medium rare and there was no pink so it was way overcooked for his liking. Christmas at The Capital Grille is basically a high-end contact sport. Packed dining room, holiday chaos, and enough "special requests" flying around to qualify as an FAA situation. And yet...somehow...Amity ran our table like a pro. She didn't just "wait" on us. She commanded the mission. Even with a heavy load on an extremely busy Christmas-season night, we never felt abandoned, forgotten, or stuck in that purgatory where you start eating bread like it's your retirement plan. Amity was expeditious, focused, and calm...the kind of calm that says, "I've seen the weeds... and I own them." Now here's where she went from great to legendary: my colleague needed gluten-free, and Amity handled it like it was the easiest thing in the world. She customized sauces, made sure the meal worked, and even got him gluten-free bread...and he was thrilled because nothing felt like a downgrade. The flavors were still top-tier, the kind that makes you pause mid-bite and think, "Okay... so this is what winning tastes like." We had the Chilean sea bass with the sauces, and it was exactly what you want at The Capital Grille: rich, dialed-in, and so good it should come with a warning label for jealousy. And the drinks...Amity presented them with such style we felt like we should be wearing tuxedos and giving each other code names. Seriously, she had us at "shaken, not stirred"...for a minute we weren't just having dinner, we were auditioning for James Bond: The Midwest Years. Bottom line: Amity treated us like kings on one of the busiest nights of the year, and she did it with skill, warmth, and a level of attention that's rare when a restaurant is slammed. The happiest hour of the day is happy hour at the Capitol Grill. It was so good. I went two days in a row, you have plenty of options if you're sitting in the bar hour from 3 PM to 6 PM. The service was much better the second day with Karrie. I went also March 12 and had a same by the name of Christina, who wasn't attentive and I don't know if it was because she didn't think this group of women would tip or if she was overwhelmed by service however, thank goodness the food pulled through. If you go for happy hour, I think you should get a little of this in a little of that. The only suggestion I would make is that you order one veggie off the regular menu. From the Caesar salad bites to the lollipop lamb chops to a sirloin and truffle fries. They have six drink options that are $10. Again this is during happy hour not my favorite steakhouse but again the food did not disappoint. read more

(I prefer steak to taste like steak; but I am often open to trying new things.) I was underwhelmed. My expectations were high. The Capital Grille is one of my all-time favorites so I made sure to make reservations for Valentine's Day this year. I thought about canceling because I lost my father a week, to the day, before, ironically on my mom's birthday. Anyhoo, I didn't cancel because I know The Capital Grille has a way of making all of their guests feel special & I felt it would be a great getaway for me and my husband. The ambiance set was amazing! They provided complimentary glasses of champagne or sparking juice, while we waited to be sat. It started off great with Sam, our server. But it felt like we were waiting quite long for her to revisit our table once we placed our order, although she walked all around us. We understand that it was extremely busy being that it was Valentine's Day. However, she brought the fries that my husband asked for as an appetizer along with the sides with our main course. Then when we decided to order dessert and she came out with our desserts ready to go and our check, she ran into another patron right beside our table and instead of finishing us out and completing our transaction, she took our dessert and check across the restaurant and visited with this patron and his party for over 15 minutes. Our cheesecake, just swinging around in the bag with her gestures as she talked to those guests for 15 minutes! I watched her from my seat to where she went and watched her walk back with our desserts and our check so I know it was our crème brûlée cheesecake dying in that bag as she had a lively conversation with another table. She chose to greet this patron, go over greet and talk to his party for 15+ minutes, while we waited. We understand that it was busy and Sam should've understood that too. she could've given us our checks and sent us on our way and opened that table up for other patrons who were waiting. The food is always amazing! The Lobster Bisque was friggin' delectable! I had blackened salmon & risotto & my husband had the chicken & risotto. We enjoyed our food. I was just a little put off by Sam's service. She was friendly enough, but kind of dampened our experience. Service is very important to me, which is why I had to give The Capital Grille three stars this time. Heather, from the Capital Grille, personally called me to apologize about this service. I just love great customer service! To call and personally apologize just shows how great this place is. I want to reiterate that this restaurant is one of my favorites. And because of this phone call, it will remain one of my favorites. My experience with Sam was an isolated experience, I believe. As I said before, Sam was quite personable up until that choice to go and speak to the other table before finalizing our transaction. I truly appreciate Heather reaching out and will 100% come back to The Capital Grille in the future. To celebrate a special work milestone, my husband wanted a great surf and turf meal and he'd never eaten at Capital Grille. We arrived early to have a cocktail in the bar, which is richly appointed and beautifully decorated for the holidays. It was packed, but service was professional and pleasant. It was clear the staff was hustling, turning bar tables quickly, and our server mentioned it was the busiest night of the year so far. We enjoyed a cocktail and then ordered a bottle of wine that was delicious and well-priced. We cleared the bar tab when our dining room table was ready and our wine was delivered to the table. Our server introduced himself and we suggested we'd be ready to order pretty quickly. My husband ordered the tenderloin and lobster tails. As a vegetarian, I knew there were very limited options for me, so I ordered the beet goat cheese salad with pistachios and ordered a shareable wild mushroom side. That's when things started going downhill. Thank goodness they bring a basket of warm breads because our meal took at least 30 minutes to arrive. The assistant servers were friendly, but our captain never came by again. My salad was very tasty, but the mushrooms and steak and lobster were lukewarm. It was obvious they'd been holding for a while, which should be unacceptable for a $65 entree. We finished our meal and would have had dessert and an after-dinner drink to complete our splurge, but couldn't get our captain's attention, so we decided we'd go elsewhere. Then we waited another 15 minutes for the check; I finally asked another captain to help us. When we paid, we did tell our captain that we were unhappy with the service and food and as we were leaving, a manager offered to refund our meal. My husband and I hardly ever get a night out together so we wanted to try somewhere new to us. He googled "fancy restaurants near me" The Capital Grille was the first place to pop up. The complimentary valet started the night out perfectly as parking would have been a nightmare without. We were 20 minutes early for our reservation but we were seated immediately when we entered. Our server Pablo greeted us quickly and made such good suggestions. He brought my espresso martini and poured it table side which was nice. My husband got the 22oz bone in ribeye, I got the roasted chicken with risotto and for our sides we got the lobster mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes. The food was incredible! That mac and cheese is no joke, easily the best mac I have ever had. After our meal Pablo boxed my leftovers and brought us a complimentary dessert because it was our first time. We had the crème brûlée cheesecake and the flourless chocolate cake. The cheesecake was to die for and the chocolate cake was good but super rich. Between Pablo's excellent service, the amazing food and Dakota keeping our waters filled we had the best time. Thank you so much to everyone at Capital for making our date night special! First, The Capital Grille's Private Dining Coordinator Aaron Marshall did a fantastic job assisting me with scheduling our business lunch with the client. I kept emailing him about the changes in attendees due to unforeseen illnesses and business travel. He always replied, "Sure, no problem. We can modify it as needed," or similarly. The server was perfect; he was attentive and effortless, and most importantly, he didn't reach over people's plates. Everyone was highly impressed with him. Top-notch. All of the food was cooked to perfection by the cooking staff, and if I am not mistaken, everyone ordered the bone-in dry-aged NY strip or the boneless prime ribeye. Also, everyone enjoyed the pies too. At first, nobody was willing to order dessert, but I spoke up and said, "I will take one of your famous coconut cream pies to go, please." Suddenly, everyone spoke up, and all seven of us left with either the coconut cream pie or the cheesecake. Later in the evening, I received texts and emails about the delicious pies. I was unaware that our Cincinnati-based client had never been to The Capital Grille, and they kept saying, "Well, we know where to bring our vendors for lunch or dinner." I almost forgot that one of our managers was ecstatic that the Capital Grille offered the 8 oz. Coca-Cola bottles. I believe he had four or five of them. There was an initial mix up about our server, causing us to wait more than half an hour before being acknowledged. The background music was from the 1930s (It's Only a Paper Moon and A Tisket a Tasket - both Ella Fitzgerald). It had more of an high brow country club, 'you may make enough to come here, but you aren't good enough to eat here' feel. For instance there was even someone who introduced herself as something like a 'server apprentice' who came to the table to see if I wanted like 5 different kinds of sparkling water. Really?! We had dinner here today for my wife's birthday. Our waiter was Barry who did an excellent job of taking care of us. We both had the filet which was excellent with mash potatoes and spinach. I also got a ceasers salad and mushrooms. My wife received a birthday treat and a beautiful rose. All total, the meals were just as good as many of the top steak (Capital is also one the top steak restaurants) restaurants in greater Cincinnati. From my experience, Capital service beats them all. This was absolutely a five star dinning experience in all areas. I absolutely recommend dining here. For us this was a special occasion and drove down from Columbus to Cincinnati for the weekend to celebrate our Ten Year Anniversary. It was an absolutely amazing dinner and the perfect choice. They exceeded all expectations and Amity Jones, our server, was beyond amazing. The parking is limited and we drive around a bit but the restaurant does offer valet. The parking lot services several restaurants and shops in the little area. Once we parked and went in we were promptly greeted and seated in a few minutes. There was even a nice Happy Anniversary card on the table. Amity, our server, introduced herself and guided us through the perfect dinning experience beautifully. To start the meal we shared the amazing Lobster and Crab Cakes. Just enough to serve two. They were so good with the chunks and lobster and crab and the delicious corn garnish had a nice bit of spiciness to it. We started off with a basket of their amazing bread. Each one was perfect in its own way. My personal favorite was the onion one. The bread was served with a generous slice of butter for the table, perfectly salted. For dinner my partner went with the Bone-In Ribeye, Medium rare, and I selected the Dry Aged NY Strip, medium-well. They have some of the best steaks that I have ever eaten. I can't even put into words to due it justice but it was delicious and seared perfectly and I enjoyed every bite. My partner had a nice glass of Cab w/ dinner and I went with some sparking water (San Pellegrino). In addition to the steaks, we added a shareable "for the table" side dish of the Au Gratin Potatoes. They were so good. I couldn't even finish those there was so much food. Just potato, cheesy goodness in every bite. Our server Amity nicely tricked us, as she went to get us some coffee and the desert menu to wrap up the meal, instead of the menus she brought us out an anniversary dessert dish. The tray had the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake w/Cocoa Powder & Raspberries, and a side of whipped cream. It also had a small piece of The Capital Grille Cheesecake w/a Brûlée style crust and some delicious and fresh blueberries & strawberries. It had Happy Anniversary stenciled in chocolate across the dish. Such a nice treat to go with the after dinner coffee. The coffee had a sugar rock candy stick stirrers. Every detail of the meal was perfect. I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of food and the exceptional service at The Capital Grille -Cincinnati. Whether a celebration or a nice meal out, you can't go wrong dinning here. read more

Had been many years since we had dined at a Capital Grille and it did not disappoint for Thanksgiving 2022. I had the Thanksgiving special dinner. A healthy portion of white meat turkey, brioche stuffing, cranberry and pear chutney, green beans and mashed potatoes. Have to say it was a hit for me. The turkey was moist, stuffing was tasty and dense and potatoes were delish. My wife's veal chop was excellent and my sister-in-law reported a perfectly cooked filet Oscar.
