The food was good enough. They sat us in the lounge for no real reason, the restaurant wasn't busy. The lounge is loud, no where near as comfortable as the main dining area and the ambience doesn't match the higher end steakhouse vibe we are familiar with from prior visits. We had to ask for refills on something so simple as water, 4-5 times, which should not be the case at a restaurant of this caliber. Our go to for great food. But it is pricey. We usually sit in the bar area. Extensive bar selection. Service is always good. Love their tempura green beans and salmon. Ok I will admit was kind of concerned about trying Eddie Merlot's due to the recent reviews but my step son wanted to bring us here. Will start will our server Adam. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Actually the individuals that assisted Adam were also professional and courteous. The atmosphere was actually more casual than I expected. We were able to actually able to have a conversation and hear each other with no worries. The food was outstanding. I ordered the Crab and corn bisque. So smooth and rich how it should be made. My wife tried it and was trying to trade her French onion soup to me. Being a steak place you expect the steaks to be done correctly. I will admit all 3 of our steaks ordered were done correctly. My husband and I visited Eddie Merlot in Cincinnati for lunch to celebrate my birthday on June 3. From the time we were greeted by the hostess, waited on by our server, Johnny and a visit from the manager, our service was five star. I ordered the lunch Steak Diane with broccoli and it was fantastic. I also ordered the crab & corn bisque and I would definitely order it again. It was part of the Prix Fixe Lunch menu. My husband had the bacon cheeseburger and he loved his also. Then to complete our meal, Johnny brought me a delicious chocolate cake for my birthday. We will definitely go back for lunch and we will ask for Johnny. He was very pleasant and we never had to ask for anything because he seemed to know what we needed before we had to ask. Food was taken well and came out at appropriate times. Will says some more coordination with everyone to be smoother would be nice but not a huge deal. Bread did take like 30 minutes to come out. So the food. Had Crab cakes to start, tiny bit pretty good. 3.75. Caesar wasn't mine but had a bite, nothing crazy good but not bad. I had French onion and it was Amazing! Cheers to happy hour! Eddie Merlot's seriously has one of the best happy hours in town. My goodness, everything was perfect from the atmosphere, to the service, to the food. I tried the lobster roll, which was one of the best I have had, including those I have tried along the east coast. The roll was buttered to perfection and filled with big chunks of lobster. I appreciate that it was not overwhelmingly dressed in mayo. It was just perfect. I upgraded from the house chips to the truffle fries. Next time I will try the chips. For my cocktail, I ordered a bourbon lemondrop martini, which was perfectly balanced and amazing. Shout out to Teresa and Jess who tend the bar. I had good service during my visit -- my server was polite and attentive, and the food itself was fine. However, I was very disappointed with how the bill was handled. My first check showed a total of $31.95 (with the automatic gratuity already included because of our party size). After that, my card was run for $54.88 on a completely different check, with a higher subtotal and an extra gratuity added. Where did $45.28 come from ? The bill given to me was for $31.95 And why I'm being charged 2 gratuity instead of 1 ??! The biggest issue for me is that this was never explained to me before the charge was made. If there were additional fees or adjustments because of our group size, that should have been communicated clearly upfront. Instead, I left feeling overcharged and confused even though the service itself was good. Transparency on billing would have made all the difference. Our first time dining here for our party of 4 was Christmas Eve--a huge mistake. First the good news. All the food we had was good. I had a chopped salad, the crab and corn chowder, the Chilean sea bass and creme brulee for dessert. Everything I had was cooked perfectly and tasted great. My wife had a filet that she ordered medium well--it came out medium rare, so they took it back and it was right the second time. She also ordered a baked potato which she split with me. The skin was so hard that you could barely cut it. I usually eat the skin also, but not this time. Also the service was great. But that's where the good part ends. They do not accept walk-ins on Christmas Eve, and there were signs on the front doors indicating that. We got the last spot in the parking lot, and when we walked in, the lobby was packed--bad sign. Our reservation was for 7PM (made in September), and we got there at 6:55. So we gave them our name and waited. And waited. What's the point of having a reservation if you have to wait 45 minutes anyway? So after our name was mispronounced several times and in several places, even though we told them twice that we would be waiting in the vestibule, we realized about 7:45 that our table was finally ready. They need a much better system--using cell phone notifications like every other major restaurant would be advisable. The service was good despite the chaos in the restaurant. Our server was attentive and polite. We learned later that the manager had apparently walked out, leaving the employees high and dry. Also that a large private party had been in the room we were seated in a little earlier, making turnaround time for that room less efficient. Probably not a good idea to permit large private parties on such a busy day. Another problem that I see is the ala carte menu. Charging 52 bucks for a piece of Chilean sea bass without ANY accompaniments such as a salad or a side is a serious overpricing IMO. So, it sounds like the new manager, when they get one, will have a lot of work to do to get this place back up to snuff. I think they lost a lot of future business on Christmas Eve. Probably best to not be open late that day unless you can handle the crowd without overbooking and the ill feelings that result. But I applaud all the employess who showed up and did their best despite the chaotic environment. It wasn't their fault. But as for us, bye bye, Eddie. read more

Everyone's salads had wilted lettuce, the calamari was heavily breaded and not very flavorful, and the bbq shrimp tasted like it just jumped out of the ocean. The server also forgot my friend's meatballs that were ordered and never came out. The cocktails, main dishes steak and chicken along with the carrot cake were pretty good but not enough to return. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated from the moment we walked in. During that time, we didn't see a hostess or a server anywhere, which was surprising given the restaurant's reputation for being high class and punctual. Eventually, our waiter came over and seated us himself. We had a reservation, but the table definitely wasn't set up like one. There were six place settings on the table, and as we were trying to get settled, our server was clearing extra silverware and glasses. It felt distracting and unorganized. It made us wonder what the point of having a reservation is if the table isn't prepared ahead of time. The service didn't improve much from there. Our server seemed rushed the entire after. There was no small talk, he rushed around, didn't listen to everything we had to say before he ran off and honestly, I can't even remember if he told us his name. It also felt like we were being treated differently compared to the surrounding tables. We felt hurried, like we were being pushed through the meal. As for the food, it was okay. The 12oz NY strips were actually very good, tender and flavorful. However, my baked potato was undercooked and hard enough that I needed a knife which had trouble cutting through it. For an $11 baked potato, I expect it to be near perfect. My fiancée enjoyed her meal, but when the bill came to $160, we couldn't help but question whether the experience matched the price. We're pretty easygoing people. We don't usually send food back or complain during the meal and we didn't here. If we don't enjoy a place, we just choose not to return. We only tried this restaurant because we were given gift cards, especially since it was Valentine's Day weekend and we wanted to try somewhere different. Based on our experience, we wouldn't recommend it to friends, and we don't plan on coming back. I went there for my birthday dinner last Saturday night. I had high expectations. Unfortunately, I had a lousy dining experience. First of all, our waiter was condescending and aloof. Second of all, the entree portions were very small, especially in light of the prices they are charging. I asked my waiter if that is all the food we get. His answer was "that's it." If I am paying $100 a meal, I expect a reasonable size portion -- not a nearly naked plate. Finally, to make matters worse, the waiter would not take the $25 Eddie Merlot reward dollars that I had earned. I asked the manager about the $25 reward dollars that they were not honoring. She replied, that she would look into it and get back to me the next day. Of course she never got back to me. All in all, it was a miserable dining experience. Wagyu filet at medium rare was a great piece of meat, especially with the béarnaise sauce, and creamed spinach was my favorite of the sides we got to share.
