Came in to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and had a really good time. Wife didn't want to cook for Easter, so (after much searching), we decided on the Chart House. The Easter Sunday drive was smooth, and a 2:30 reservation was the perfect time. We were hungry, but not starving. It lasted the whole day. We started with the salads (both of good proportions). My wife had the Caesar, and was happy with it. I had the Chopped salad. The lettuce felt soggy, but the carrots & radishes added texture. It tasted good. The NY Strip was the best I have ever tasted. I usually order mushrooms on my steak,m and this one came with them. The steak had the perfect balance between tenderness and texture to taste and feel just right. I haven't had a steak this good in a long time. My wife was very impressed with the Sea Bass and loved it. The water was very attentive through the main course. As my wife usually eats have the main course, and boxes the rest, it appears the waiter may have waited (in vain) for my wife to finish her Maine course before bringing our desserts. It was a cold evening and the restaurant was warm, cozy, and full of delicious smells.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The breadbasket was a great way to start and was very good. We also had a crab cake, which was very tasty, but the presentation wasn't my favorite. It said roasted corn, but the corn was sort of sprinkled around the plate, and there were a lot of tomatoes. I'm not a big fan of tomatoes, but luckily I could eat the crab cake around them. For dinner, my husband had the filet mignon and mashed potatoes. The filet was perfect, though he seemed surprised by the sauce. It was good, but he normally doesn't like a sauce on his steak. The mashed potatoes had a nice flavor, but had huge chunks of unmashed and unflavored potato. I had really been looking forward to mashed potatoes, and I was disappointed in them. I ordered the shrimp linguine and was surprised by the dish I received. The shrimp were large but somewhat flavorless. The linguine was topped with feta and fried porcini. I must have missed the description on the menu, but I didn't enjoy the flavor. There were peas, which was fine, but they were so overcooked they had fallen apart, in addition to largely and roughly chopped herbs, which made me also not enjoy the texture of the dish. Our dessert was the mini chocolate lava cake, which was very good, and the mini was well-sized with a giant ice cream scoop and plenty for two people to share. Our server was so kind and understanding of me not enjoying my meal. I've never sent a dish back before and I was grateful she was so supportive of me having a great dining experience. Won't go back. Second time we had a bad experience. I ordered the Sea Bass which was tiny and WAY past its prime (fishy tasting). I couldn't eat it. My husband ordered the Halibut which was also past its prime but he chocked down as much as he could tolerate. Halibut is supposed to be a thick flakey filet. The only reason I'm giving one star is because of the amazing bartender who served us. My sister and I had Thanksgiving dinner at the bar. It was a set menu. The Caesar salad was the worst salad I have ever had. It was mushy and unpleasant. My sister's salad was the same. My sister ordered steak, and I ordered lobster. My sister's steak was so salty that neither of us could eat it. My lobster was okay--a little salty too, but not bad. The vegetables, like the salad, were mushy and unpleasant. I know it was a special day, but since this is a chain restaurant, I expected more from the Chart House. Every other time I've been there, it has been excellent. Wow! What a very pleasant surprise. We arrived in the evening at the Fairfield inn directly Across the street from the chart house. It's a 30 second Walk! We were hungry having traveled several hours by airplane and we would have been happy with anything decent. Totally forgot about Chart House as an option for seafood in Cincinnati. Reading the reviews and looking over the menu made my decision to give it a try. We arrived early evening on a Saturday. We had our choice of tables and of course chose to sit facing the riverfront. The service was friendly and attending. The manager even stopped by our table mid meal to check on things. Overall the restaurant was clean and offered great ambiance with the view of the river and passing boats. The wine list was fair with inflated prices. With that, I chose to stick with beer. We tried the oysters as a starter. They were chilled and served fresh and absolutely delicious! Probably my favorite part of the meal. The entrees were good and came out as ordered. I had the seared ahi tuna. I had it medium rare and now wished I had it prepared rare. It was still delicious. Long waits for our glasses of wine (no wine available by the bottle) after being seated, and again during our meal. $18 servings of white wine not properly chilled (or maybe because it was transferred to a warm decanter first). $330 tab (including a $50 tip) for two. Not a good experience or a good value. We love fine dining, and we're happy to pay for excellent food and service. We'll not be back. read more

Time for an update...it's been awhile. I was reminded of this last night at a Yelp event where they asked us to do a thankful Thursday for a favorite business and I wrote to Chart House. It's like an old friend that you're comfortable with (at least for me). If my refrig is empty, no problem. Close enough to walk. Actually it would be laughable for me to drive down! And that's good, cause on those times I throw caution to the winds and have that one drink over my self imposed limit, I can!!! Tina (aka Lisa ... lol) always takes good care of me at the bar. I love to sit at the bar...but sometimes it's full cause they have a killer happy hour. But if that happens I just find a table. Their happy hour always has a great turn out. And I love moving around the menu. Still have to try the new Brie appetizer. Menu changes with seasons. And I meet the best people here! There's one woman who comes every Thursday and we have great talks. Met another great friend here, but she moved back to New York and that made me sad. And that's all I'm gonna say for now... The view is one of the best in town because it's right on the river. In warmer weather you can even sit outside. And it's great for groups...I've brought several here in the time I've been in the area. Hope you've had the chance to visit here. If not, you need to make that happen. Soon. Now the restaurant was full, on a Wednesday night, in Kentucky. I think that speaks volumes. The shrimp beignets were absolutely delicious, the martini was perfect. Went tonight on a Monday night and from start to finish it was a bad experience. Started with standing at hostess station just to have hostess come back and tell me to hold while she took call in orders. Finally sat at table to wait 10 min for water or a drink. Ordered good at sat. 35 min no appetizer they brought my husband his salad after 20 min and when we asked where crab cake was we were told it was on way and the kitchen was backed up from happy hour. So crab cake came was cold the tomatoes and corn was cold not 2 min after we got crab cake food comes to table so now my entree sits getting cold while i eat the crab cake which was ok bc the fish i ordered was so dry and over cooked i ate it bc i want to go home and i don't have patience to wait for another one. But based on all the customers looking around for waiters or food I'm not the only one unsatisfied today. read more

We had a 7:30 reservation, arrived on time and were asked to wait 10 minutes for our table. When we were sat, we got a cramped table right i top of other tables when a two top right on the window was open, and remained open our entire meal. Our server was great, but he was hampered by a bar that was too slow. Our appetizer arrived before our drinks. The food was ok, not great. My swordfish was small, only came with a garlic mash. I needed to stop at Frisch's later in the night because I was still hungry. The macadamia nut crusted mahi was pretty good. All in all, it was an ok experience, i would not go back though. read more

Even with very few guests in the restaurant, we sat waiting and waiting to be served our main courses. They brought out one person's food at our table, and we waited twelve minutes until the other food was served. Creamed spinach was room temperature and runny. They were out of prime ribs and strip steaks for the evening, and the filet mignon (ordered medium rare) was the driest and toughest "filet mignon" I have ever been served. The floor manager had absolutely no response to any of the concerns brought to his attention. Too many really good restaurants in Cincinnati to waste your money at this one.
