This review is based on the Thanksgiving dinner I picked up. I wanted to leave my honest review and be as kind as possible, but after reading the response that another user left and the reply that the chef gave, I am even more disappointed. However, I will keep it at 3 stars because I want my comment to be constructive. My order was for 3:00pm, I figured they must be busy since I saw they were feeding 400 people for the day. So I arrived at around 3:30. I show up and the guy says it will be another 30 minutes, and it was in a rude manner. I could hear the same young man keep mentioning in the back "Im freaking out.". I feel for you, but I think you guys bit off more than you could chew. I understand being a small business too. But everything that matters was sacrificed for quantity, and it was not handled in a friendly or professional manner. I patiently wait to get my order, and for me no biggie. But everyone that kept showing up was told up to an hour wait. Who knows if it interfered with schedules for them. After waiting and trying to look past the frustration of the chefs, I get home so we can eat the food. The vegetables were still a bit raw and had no seasoning. The scalloped potatoes only had the taste of garlic to them (I love garlic but it needed way more than that). The chicken was weird to us and the stuffing had the weirdest texture and overly sweet. the gravy was also bland, we tried to add salt and stock to it. The only things we enjoyed were the cake and mac and cheese. Everything else, I tried to fix, but it ended up wasted. It's a shame because I was greatly looking forward to this meal with my family. I initially heard about this culinary establishment on recommendation from a neighbor who knows how to find the best restaurants. I was told that the food was amazing, the ambiance was happily centered around the kitchen, the chefs were friendly and personable...and there were only two tables inside. My first trip to Lacquered was with two good friends. We entered through the double-cleavered front doors, sat at one of the two indoor tables and proceeded to order many items off their regular menu: the half fried chicken meal, the garlic noodles, salmon and avocado spring rolls, fig and peach pita-za, and the crispy pork egg rolls, with four of their house made sauces. Ok. First of all: Best Fried Chicken in Long Beach. Many may argue this opinion, but they would be absolutely wrong. Five pieces of crispy, juicy, savory chicken with the perfect amount of seasoning. The accompanying (honey mustard) coleslaw is easily the best coleslaw I have ever tasted. The fig and peach pizza on pita bread was original and paired some wonderful tastes. The egg rolls were wonderful, the garlic noodles rode the perfect balance of garlic, scallions, butter and sauce. And the spring rolls held a hefty amount of salmon and avocado within their rice paper, with tangy sweet & sour sauce and a perfect peanut dipping sauce. Oh...the sauces: they make all their own sauces at Lacquered, too. Honey mustard, garlic sauce, peanut sauce, sweet & sour, ranch, BBQ...even the catsup! The kitchen makes them all from scratch and it shows. We finished the meal with Lacquered's Sticky Toffee Pudding and it was the right call. The three of us finished it (along with a delectably salty-sweet Crack Cookie) and felt no regret, despite all of the food that we so fervently consumed. We were stuffed, but not overly loaded. Throughout the meal, we got to meet Scott and Diana and learn about their history and how the restaurant came about: two fine dining chefs forced to deal with catering to COVID shortly after opening their restaurant. Most of their business is takeout or one of the many delivery services in the area, but please consider eating at the restaurant. Everyone who enters this eatery should appreciate what it is: a kitchen run by world-class chefs that caters to the people of Long Beach. If you are feeling lucky and have the time, I recommend trying to grab one of the two tables that are situated indoors at Lacquered. Order a variety of items and patiently wait for the food to arrive as it is readied. It could be a 90 minute meal or 2 hours, but I guarantee it will be worth any wait. Patience and understanding that each meal is made to order will pay off. Chef Scott and Chef Diana have a gem of a place hidden on Broadway. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Just got my food and my garlic sauce was missing.. I wish that was the only thing wrong with the order. I went to take the first bite into my nacho taco and there was a DRIED CONTACT LENSE IN IT!!! And then there was a hair in the chicken ceasar wrap... I waited 30 min longer than was initially told. So disgusting and unsanitary. Edited to reply to the owner: I'm not sure where a dried contact would suddenly pop up in a taco that was wrapped in paper, secured with a rubber band from your restaurant. And in terms of the hair, it was a very short black hair- which I know definitely didn't come from me. Just wanted to let you know..but thank you for the "apology". Owner is now private messaging me to accuse me of planting the contact and hair in the food to destroy a small business and get free food.. after waiting an hour, and the "free food" ended up in my trash. read more

If your local walking distance there's really no need to cook at home just come here. Lol its like home cooking at its finest. We were there celebrating my birthday next door at the local bar taco man was unavailable we stopped here to grab a bite before heading home and what an amazing pre birthday dinner. Regretfully we had the same Thanksgiving experience as the other reviewer. Began with the pickup...Arrived at 2 PM as arranged and was told it'd be another 30 minutes. Had to wait an hour for it to be finished. Not great. We're not local or we would have come back home to wait. I was really excited for this menu and we just found it to be so disappointing. The chicken looked steamed vs roasted and it had this really pale pink color from the pomegranate glaze. Made ahead and held covered? Dunno. I tried to remove the flabby skin and remove the stuffing. Difficult tho as chicken was deboned and was hard to get it all out as it was pretty gummy. Made for an unattractive presentation. Grocery store rotisserie had this beat by a mile look and flavor wise. The scalloped potatoes tasted only of garlic which was very very overwhelming. We joked if there was any vampires nearby we would be safe. The roasted vegetables were beautiful looking but so al dente and hard. The gravy had lots of large squares of cut up meat in it which made it chunky and it definitely needed more seasoning. We did enjoy the mac & cheese and the dessert was delicious. I ended up at the grocery store yesterday morning to buy all the turkey day ingredients so I could have a do over. I just couldn't have this be my Thanksgiving meal. I had been meaning to go to Lacquered for a while now. It took a while but we finally go around to doing it. The claim to fame for this restaurant is their "feast meal", you can see them all over yelp here. We got to the restaurant and were like "We were looking for this.." and were curtly told that they don't do that meal anymore but we can order a la carte. A few minutes later some employee came in on a skateboard and was yelled at for being 20 minutes late in front of customers. We ordered two ginger noodle dishes, I got mine with lemon chicken. My partner got hers with a fried egg and brisket. We also got poutine as a side as some drinks. Canadian poutine - This was actually done very well, the cheese curds squeaked a little bit but melted over time and the gravy was absolutely fantastic. Normally you are supposed to use beef gravy for Canadian poutine but I'll give it a pass because their gravy was so flavorful. Noodles with Chicken - It was good, i mean a little bit oversalted and I like chicken skin a little crispier, and I wasn't a huge fan of the way it was cooked. It wasn't horrible it just wasn't my thing. Service - Beyond the first person being terse about them not having the feast the lady who gave us our food and everything was super upbeat and nice. Even gave us our yelp cookies! At the end of the day my final word on it is that the place is ok. The food was fine, the service was .. a mixed bag, and I did love the cool lacquered tables that they had set up. I am more than a little disappointed they discontinued their feast meal and I just don't think I would make the effort I made to circle the block looking for parking for 20 minutes and then walking three blocks to get here again. read more

In addition to the chicken sandwich, they have fish tacos, chicken tenders, garlic noodles, Asian ribs, poutine, spring rolls and many vegetarian options. They also had a few daily specials. The guy at the counter was very friendly and helped me decide what to get. I opted for the chicken sandwich, Asian ribs and the garlic noodles. I also got a lava cake and cheesecake with fresh berries. The chicken sandwich was a large crispy breast with ranch dressed chopped lettuce and a drizzle of honey mustard. I must say, it was the bomb! The 5-spice Asian ribs were tasty with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce and the garlic noodles were super savory with green onions and crunchy bean sprouts. Yum!! So he brought me the garlic noodles and fried chicken. I really like my garlic to be GARLIC and they did not disappoint. I loved noodles. I did like the chicken, it was fine. I think I need to go when it's fresh because my friend drove it up and it got kinda soggy, so it's not on them. IT'S ON HIM. LOL. We had to try this place after all of the hype. We placed our order way too early and Diana was kind enough to contact us and let us know they didn't open until five. We ordered a variety of dishes to share as we weren't sure what we'd like. Canadian Poutine: delicious fries, the cheese melted all to one side and I didn't any of that side, so I cannot comment on the cheese, but the gravy (provided in a separate container so the fries didn't get soggy) was mild and not at all salty. Macaroni and Cheese: not as cheesy tasting as I was expecting based upon the visual, but not bad. Lemon Garlic Shrimp: not very lemony or garlicky, but they were large and shell on. Mixed veggies: flavorful, but waaay undercooked; basically rock hard. Vietnamese Spring Roll with pork belly: definitely jam packed with flavor, but I'm not a fan of cucumber (it wasn't mentioned on the menu so that first bite ruined it for me.) The peanut sauce tasted of onion to me so that didn't help. Garlic Noodles: good, had a nice fresh garlic burn. Crispy Chicken Crack (Fried Chicken Skin): the chicken version of pork rinds with a flavorful, but not overly salty dusting. The fire sauce was tasty too. I'll be back for this. Sticky Toffee Pudding: delicious, somehow the cake was both fluffy and moist and the grilled banana cut the sweet perfectly. A new favorite dessert. Came back here and not only was food not ready, but I had to wait for an employee to employee discussion to end. I actually do not like my french fries piping hot. I would prefer all the food be ready when Yelp or whatever food ordering app says it will be ready. The volume and energy of those interacting with me was jarring and unpleasant. I have anxiety and it made me feel uncomfortable. More negative energy and excuses rather than positive energy and wishes to enjoy. Coming from an extensive customer service and experience standpoint, I have to emphasize that sometimes it simply doesn't matter to the customer *why* you are doing what you do. Then about 15 minutes later the cashier comes over and says 'I'm sorry but the chef didn't like the way your food looked' and offered our $$ back. I had a last minute cancellation for my Christmas Eve meal, and I called around, and no local restaurants were able to accommodate me. I have driven by Lacquered many times, on the way to/from my favorite Thai place, but have never tried their food, because honestly I'm just not a big chicken fan. However, I saw online that they had a holiday menu and decided to call and see if they could help me on short notice. I spoke to the owner, and she was MORE than helpful! She and her staff were able to produce a full meal for me the next day, and everything was fresh, delicious, high quality and well-seasoned! I am now regretting not trying this restaurant sooner! They clearly care about their cuisine and their customers! It was also spotlessly clean inside, so they are definitely following current health protocols. The fries chicken is excellent! Juicy inside but thick fried and crispy outside; the perfect fry. The Mac n cheese is a good combo with the fried chicken, but nothing mind blowing. We got a pound of shrimp too which was really tasty. Big shrimp covered in Cajun butter; peeled and ate nearly the whole pound. I just walked in there on a rainy Tuesday. Just wanting to bring home a couple items for us to try out and snack on. I ordered two cups of chicken soup, loaded with veggies ( which I love)....but where is the chicken? Broth is average. The beans look really good but they aren't cooked.....they are still hard. Almost like they tried to cook them up to quickly or hadn't been cooking near long enough. I was really looking forward to this spot. Not sure what happened, just baked beans and soup.
