SO, I'm giving an update because I gave Lacquered a second shot today. While I DID have a better experience this time around, it's just still not for me. I ordered lunch today, had it delivered, which is always a gamble but everything arrived nice and hot, so that was a plus! First, I ordered chicken tenders. I didn't know what to expect, so I ordered 3. I should have only ordered 1. They are HUGE. The chicken is not dry which is good, but the breading/batter is pretty bland. Just salty, not much spice. I wish I'd known how huge they were going to be, perhaps that's something that can be updated on the Uber Eats delivery menu. I got 2 sauces, BBQ and honey mustard, which are made in-house. You an tell they're homemade, which is good. I didn't love them, didn't hate them. I suppose they improved the chicken, but it just still feels like there's spice missing, or something. I also got the hand cut fries. Now - they were like $8 on the menu and I was super confused bc that was more than double the price of one chicken tender. Well, come to find out the bag is INSANELY huge. WAY bigger than anything I could ever eat. Perhaps the restaurant could provide a smaller size option or mention how large the bag is on the menu. I know it's weird to be complaining about getting a LOT of fries, but reheating fries never works out. Even in the air fryer, they're not as good. I had maybe a quarter of the bag and one chicken tender and I'm stuffed, but now I'm left with a ton of food that I paid good money for and don't want it to go to waste. The taste of the fries was pretty good. They're nice and crunchy which is how I like fries, but they're VERY salty. Could just be personal preference, I don't like to oversalt my food. I prefer flavor over salt. Lastly, I ordered the stick toffee pudding. It's my fave dessert. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to it once I'm not SO full. So, that being said, I raised my review to 3 stars instead of 2. I ordered what everyone seems to rave about as opposed to the things I ordered last time and still wasn't wowed. Wow wow! This place is delicious. My order: Canadian poutine fries, 1grilled buffalo chicken tender, 1 fried tender, and a cannoli. I'm sad that I didn't get the man's name that helped me. Thoroughly disappointed by everything. Spend your time and money elsewhere. I've wanted to try this spot for a while and I was excited that I got to today. Here's what went down. I ordered over the phone and was told to come in 25 minutes. Upon arrival I stood in the "lobby" for 5 minutes unacknowledged. I would have definitely looked past this but after everything else I think it's important to note. When finally greeted by the male chef he asked my name and I told him and he seemed aggravated and responded sharply "we're still working on it, gonna be a few more minutes". Okay, so again no a huge deal, just seemed like they were busy and there were only two people working. Then, while I'm waiting for my food with a group of about 5 others, we can hear the two workers quarreling with each other. Not sure their situation but it sounded like two people in a relationship arguing and yelling at each other. It was super uncomfortable. Then I got my food. When I get home I'm sad to find the sloppiest chicken sandwich I've ever seen. It's so slathered in sauce that the bun is wet and falling apart. The worst part? It's slathered in ranch dressing which is NOT listed on any of the online menus. The menus say "honey mustard", which I love so I was excited. There was a tiny squirt of honey mustard and oceans of ranch dressing. I hate ranch. I would have asked for it to be taken off, had I known that my sandwich would be drowned in it, but again that wasn't labeled anywhere. I got a side of Mac and cheese and it was the most bland, flavorless, unseasoned Mac and cheese I've ever tasted. On top of that it had tomato's in it -- also listened nowhere on the menu. I just don't get it. Isn't this supposed to be southern style soul food? Where's the seasoning. Also, PLEASE tell people what you're adding to your dishes. I also got a dog treat for my dog. I'm sure he won't have any complaints. For $30 for three items that were made differently than stated on the menu, the curt attitude, the domestic argument, and general lack of presentation I feel absolutely cheated out of my money. I hate to rate a small business low but this just felt like an absolute scam and I'm highly disappointed. If I'm spending $30 on lunch on a Monday I at least expect good customer service or the food be made the way it's listed on the menu -- your choice. ****changed to one star because after the owners snarky response I called her and she did nothing but scream into the phone for 5 minutes and not let me get an word in edgewise. She kept on repeating that I should have told them I didn't like ranch? Should I have also told you all of the other foods I don't like that aren't on your menu, Diana? We've gotten takeout from this place several times since they opened. We had some good food in the beginning, but the quality seems to have gone downhill since they opened. In our last order, the deviled eggs were inedible and the fried items (fried chicken bucket, fried chicken tender, and french fries) tasted like they were fried in slightly stale oil. I've only tried their chicken and fries because it's my favorite but beard off of that and customer service I give 5 stars. My only complaint is that I can't eat it fast enough when I get it because it's so fresh and hot. Something that people might not like is that they say it can take 10 to maybe 15 minutes but in my experience it doesn't feel that long. read more

So this is my third trip to lacquered. Tonight i arrived 5 mins after my order was supposed to be ready and my order still took another 40 minutes to be ready. There were some other people in tbe lobby also waiting on their orders. We ordered the fried chicken and garlic noodles with veggies. My wife lovessss the garlic noodles and veggies, top notch. Fried chicken was cooked perfectly however when we arrived home my wife only received a side of garlic noodles. Half the price/size and no veggies. This was an online order too, so i think they misread the order somehow. I could tell the chef and front desk person were frantically trying to get out late orders. Probably understaffed on a Monday night. They were pretty irate with each other and cussing, just not a good look. I don't believe playing $27 dollars for chicken skins, two pieces of chicken strips and fries is worth it. That is crazy expansive. I try hard to support my local business but that was kind of ridiculous. Spent the entire night in the bathroom due to this place. Something here didn't agree with my body for sure. Weird vibe inside the place between the customers and employees going back and forth on orders. I only ate half of the food before i decided to give up. I didn't want to risk eating anymore if it. Wow! This was so good. I've looked at this place on Yelp over and over, but never really thought about driving alllll the way down from Signal Hill to Broadway We ordered the Vietnamese grilled chicken salad, single piece of fried chicken, (there were actually two large pieces), some fried tofu, and pickled vegetables. It was super delicious, enough for at least two people, and under $30 total. The only thing I was bummed about was getting there and seeing that they had specials that weren't posted online, but I get that. They're busy making delicious food and not constantly updating their social media. I can't wait to try the delectable, looking desserts. It came 30 minutes earlier than expected (I'm .8 miles away), was perfect temperature, had all the garlic smells, and one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The food here is delicious! It is very close by to the beach, just a five minute drive from the ocean! It is located in a homey neighborhood with plenty of street parking. They have two tables outside so they are dog friendly! Came on a Sunday during the daytime for lunch and the workers were very helpful in helping me choose some delicious dishes. The food did take a while to come out but everything is made fresh so it was all worth the wait! We ordered the Chicken and Waffles as well as the 1/4 Chicken Plate. The Chicken and Waffles is delicious. The gravy is really unique - tastes really creamy like it has some sort of coconut cream to it. Don't think it has any coconut ingredients in it though! The 1/4 Chicken Plate has a great variety of a bunch of different delicious foods. You can choose the thigh or the breast for chicken. I chose the lemon pepper seasoning with white wine butter as the sauce. It also comes with salad with your choice of mustard or peanut dressing. The garlic noodles were good also - tasted more like a chow mien though with hints of ginger to it. The garlic sauce that is paired with the bread is so delicious also - it is like garlic sauce at mediterranean restaurants. The pickled vegetables are so colorful and brightens the whole tray up. The variety in this tray are great! You have your carbs, proteins, and veggies all in one plate and all were delicious. Overall, the chicken is cooked perfectly and super juicy. Looking forward to try their chicken tacos and their poutine next time because they look delicious! Prices are not cheap but all their ingredients are fresh and organic. EDITED: I edited this review based on the Owner's response. To clarify, I didn't think/know what nationality the chef/Owner was. Only that I had thought I read "scallion pancakes" when in fact it was "scallion flatbread". That was my error. ========== I heard a lot about Lacquered (which my friend pronounces "Lacroix") so we finally decided to try it. As you can tell from the ratings, OVERALL, it's just okay. We tried the fried chicken, cole slaw, fries, garlic noodles, and scallion flatbread (not pancake if you misread the menu like me). Other than the fried chicken, there wasn't anything that I would go back for. Think of this as an elevated extra crispy KFC chicken. Say what you will about KFC but their chicken is never dry and the same is true with this chicken. Tender, moist, overall a really well-cooked chicken. The crust is a little too thick for my liking but some may really enjoy that. The crust is seasoned very well, not just salt but some good seasoning, very tasty and I probably ate more than I should (and felt a little sick afterwards). If you like traditional fried chicken, you'll definitely enjoy this chicken. Now, everything else there was just...okay. WAY too much ginger on the garlic noodles and couldn't get a lot of the garlic noodle flavor. It seems the chef uses fresh ginger which is great as I'm all for fresh ingredients. But fresh ginger has such a strong taste that you would think you would want to minimize it so as to not overpower the rest of the dish. It was hard to enjoy the flavor of the garlic noodles themselves because the ginger was so strong. The cole slaw wasn't really a cole slaw but just a salad with dressing. I was fine. The fries were actually quite good. Thick cut, steak fries, and extra crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. But in a world with lots of good fries, it's not something I would necessarily seek out. Finally, the scallion flatbread (again, my apologies for the misread of "pancakes"). This was more of a naan-type bread with scallions chopped in. It was interesting and even had a good texture but was overall a little bland. I think for the hype, it ended up disappointing, hence the 3 stars. It's neutrally probably a 3.5 but again, Yelp, you're not helping me with solid number starring systems. read more

Visited Lacquered after 9PM on a Sunday night, and it surprisingly had a crowd for a late Sunday night. The door handles of the restaurant are chopping chef butcher knives, which is pretty clever! Since it was our first visit, Latrice was very helpful when she took our order at the counter. My husband and I ordered one quarter lemon and pepper chicken breast combo with garlic noodles, mustard dressing for the slaw, and it was enough for the two of us because the meal, which is served on one metal pan also came with scallion bread and pickled veggies. Their water is infused with herbs and fruit, which was also very refreshing and tasteful on a hot summer's night! Everything tasted clean, flavorful, and refreshing! The lemon pepper chicken was moist and had great flavor. The slaw with mustard dressing was very refreshing and flavorful too! The scallion bread is served with garlic sauce and I kept wanting more of it! The garlic noodles tasted like yummy garlic, and it was surprisingly tasty considering I wasn't sure how the garlic noodles served with bean sprouts would taste along with lemon and black pepper chicken and slaw. The pickled veggies come in a small serving and consist of pickles, cauliflower, tomatoes, and mushrooms; it was very yummy too. I'll start by saying that I live 30-50 minutes way from Lacquered, on a good traffic day... but the drive is always worth it! Everything at Lacquered is so fresh, they even wait to fry items until you check in to pick up your order. Tonight me and my folks braved the 45-50 mins of freeway traffic to celebrate my birthday with Lacquered! My mom is immunocompromised so we don't eat indoors. We opted to get take-out and had a picnic in our car around the corner so we could enjoy all of the tasty treats freshly prepared. I ordered ahead on the way there knowing that we would need to wait a little longer for the order to be completed. Good things come to those who wait! I do not mind waiting for good food, and anyone who complains needs to chill out. Today was my birthday so I ordered a lot... Chef Diana asked how many people this order was for and I said only THREE! Don't worry, there are plenty of leftovers. Tonight I ordered: * Family Feast = half a fried chicken, 6 fried tenders, large garlic noodles, small ranch romaine salad, 3 large sauces (soy lacquer, BBQ, honey mustard), and 5 chocolate covered strawberries * 2 piece fish & chips, which came with coleslaw, tartar sauce, lemon wedges, malt vinegar * large farmer market veggie medley * large chicken gravy Everything was delicious, fresh, and high quality. The Family Feast is a great deal. The chicken is crunchy and never greasy. The fish and chips were excellent, crispy and light. The veggies are buttery and tender. Their gravy is savory and tasty in everything! The dipping sauces are familiar flavors but with Lacquered's unique spin. They make everything in-house; sauces, desserts, etc. and it shows. I've loved everything I've ever had from this restaurant, but because I live so far away, I generally only get to eat here two or three times per year. If you follow Lacquered on Instagram, you'll see hard-working, dedicated chefs who love what they do = creating lovely, high quality, comforting food and sharing it with their community. I'm so happy my Long Beach buddies introduced me to Lacquered and I'm happy to have gotten the opportunity to treat my family to a delicious birthday dinner! Thank you Lacquered! P.S.
