it's a Korean take on the French bakery, and it works. I think they are known for their different kinds of brioche. have had the blueberry and the pearl one, which is little dots of crystallized sugar over the top. not a huge fan of brioche normally, but these were good. the brioche seemed lighter and fluffier than what I've had in the past. the blueberry one has an icing on top and some sort of blueberry cream inside. also tried the financier, olive bread, and cookies, all good. the Gouda bread is good, but it's literally just bread with cubes of Gouda put in the middle before baking, a little weird. i think it gets crowded and they definitely run out of things as the day goes on, so go early and leave plenty of time just in case. no seating and small, so don't expect to be able to sit and enjoy some coffee/pastries. we got ours to go. read more

Recently, though, they have set up a couple of tables outside for customers to chat and sip their coffees. I'm hooked! I stop by here way more than I should. I haven't tried any of their cakes, but all of their pastries are delicious! You can't go wrong with any of the choices, but my favorites are the soy bread, cream cheese bun, and lemon madeleines... paired with a latte and I'm in heaven. My waistline hates it, but I can't keep from stopping by daily. It's a small cafe so don't expect to sit down and stay, but parking is fairly easy, so it's a bit too convenient to run in, get what you want and run out. This is a really lovely and cute French style bakery/cafe. As others have said, parking situation either involves street parking or parking in the very small lot to the side. There isn't much seating (just a bar and some outdoor tables during good weather), so it's definitely more of a to go kind of place instead of a hang out and chill with friends kind of place, which is no problem. I always get the matcha latte here (hot/iced depending on my mood). It's perfectly and subtly sweet, with gentle matcha flavoring. The baristas here mix the powder very well, so there usually isn't a layer of powdery gunk on the bottom of your cup when you're done. I highly recommend trying their matcha latte at least once! Of their pastries and breads, I really enjoy all their brioches, soy bread, and sourdough bread. The sourdough has good crust and subtle sour flavor. If you prefer your sourdough on the more mild side, theirs is a good choice. Also, if you're ever in the mood for something super savory, try the miso bread. They only serve it on the weekends, but it gives a huge savory punch with the bacon, miso, and green onions cooked into it. It sounds strange, but it works surprisingly well. The staff here are also all very kind and work very quickly. I've never had a bad experience with anyone here, whether it be the cashiers, baristas, or the owners. If you're ever in the area and want a quick treat to go, I highly recommend La Tabatiere! They're also always making something new/different for the seasons, so it's always worth stopping by more than once. read more

Nestled on a side street near the busy area of Closter, La Tabatiere has to be the town's most gleaming gem! You can smell the deliciousness as you walk towards the front door (there is a small lot connected to the bakery). Small and cute, but packed with delectable options from breads, tarts, brioche, individual cake slices, cakes, pastries, etc - and Stumptown coffee! The baked delicacies are as yummy as they are beautiful - the Blueberry brioche is one of the most magical things I've ever tasted. (Has anyone watched the movie, "Kate & Leopold" where Hugh Jackman's character describes how delicious a slice of brioche is? I never understood what the hype was about brioche until I tried it at La Tabatiere. I clearly have had horrible brioche until now.) There is limited seating (just a few stools) but that isn't an issue for me b/c I plan on getting the goodies to go! Highly recommended!! read more

I heard so many great things about this bakery and finally decided to visit a few weeks ago. Interior: very cozy, reminiscent of a boulangerie and the meticulous placements of decorative items were perfect. There weren't that many seats inside but there is an outdoor patio with a lot more seating. Coffee: They serve Stumptown Coffee. There is a Starbucks nearby but why would you go there when you can actually get good coffee! The foooood: Probably one of the best I've had. I walked in and ordered everything in the pastry case plus all the bread they offer. My personal favorites were artichoke and spinach, canele, matcha scone, AND the passion fruit brioche. You must have the brioche. The ham and cheese croissant is on point as well. read more

I also like that they don't have tables, because I hate nothing more than a crowded cafe with people who don't leave for hours!
