Goat cheese tart
Julia S.

Really well-crafted pastries in an upscale bakery. Stopped in on a Sunday morning for breakfast on our way out of the city. Got the eggplant tomato battard, cherry danish, and goat cheese tart, all of which were good. The roasted tomatoes on the eggplant one were very flavorful. The -1 star is due a few logistics-related issues. The bakery is designed so that you walk in and loop around and then come back to pay which makes the front entrance area very crowded with people bumping into each other right near the doorway. The other issue was that the plastic coffee cup for the cold brew I got had a very poor seal leading to coffee dripping through the edge and spilling all over the place in the car. Good coffee but this was frustrating. Worth a trip for the pastries!

Great place to pickup a tasty treat. Wonderful bakery that the whole family enjoyed. Kids ate the croffle so quickly I do not have a picture to share . Staff was helpful and good vibes.

After my walk at the palisades park, I wanted to stop by and purchase something to eat when I came across this bakery from Yelp. From the outside, it looked like a small factory and once you enter it looked so modern and filled with delicious baked goods. The aroma of the baked breads immediately hit you, I just knew this spot was going to be delicious. I knew I wanted something savory so I purchased a ham and cheese on a croissant which was so buttery and so flavorful. I also purchased a blueberry cheese danish which is my go to and it was fantastic as well as a coffee for my mother. The staff was fast, helpful and cheerful. Location is small and no inside seating more like a grab and go style. This place was awesome and can't wait to come back again when in the area.

This is not your local cafe hangout. Come to think of it, I don't even think they sell coffees or any other beverage. There are no seats, no tables, and only a little bit of standing room. But this is HEAVEN for all carb connoisseurs. Most of the building seems to be dedicated to (1) on-site equipment and (2) a small storefront where goods are prettily displayed behind a glass wall. And then a teeny, tiny area where you stand in line and salivate as you await your turn. Trying to decide what to get is difficult, since you don't get to see what's actually available until you get to the front of the line, and then you have to make some quick decisions while the rest of the line waits and harrumphs behind you. I've had a ton of their croissants (the regular was flaky and delicious, the almond tasted like millions of almonds died in the making of it, and the flan was just as if a plate of flan and croissant had a baby). The beloved kouign-amann is a croissant-like flaky pastry with a creme brûlée crackling top. The monkey bread is hopelessly moreish. Suffice it to say, I've been eating my way through Balthazar little by little, and nothing has disappointed. If you're in the area and consider yourself a lover of bread or pastry, this is a must-visit. Parking is extremely limited, but there's a high turnover rate of cars since most people are leaving right after they purchase. Lines can be long, but move pretty quickly.

Monkey bread and Flan Croissant Muffin

First and foremost, I'm giving this place a 4.5/5 stars. As an out-of-towner I just had to make time to grab some goodies from this establishment. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and they seemed to have a steady flow of patrons and had plenty of inventory from pastries, cakes, pies and cookies, to breads and chocolates. There is bound to be something for everyone. Not only that, but the employees were kind, patient, and seemed genuinely happy to be of assistance. It's a quaint, organized, and visually appealing bakery - utilizing the space in a wonderful manner. While I wanted to try everything, we limited ourselves to 5 pastries, spending a little under $25 - cheaper than I was expecting. We left with a lemon bar, cheese danish, apple galette, monkey bread, and a flan croissant muffin. Let me cut to the chase - the monkey bread and cheese danish were throw ways for me personally. The monkey bread was just too dry and the cheese in the cheese danish was pretty flavorless. I think if I'd had a fruit filled danish, that would have been my jam as the pastry itself was delicious. The lemon bar was very good, however nothing groundbreaking - I found it comparable to the frozen Trader Joe's lemon bars (not a diss, I buy these regularly). The apple galette was scrumptious - the pastry was perfectly crispy and flakey with chunks of sugar and the apples were thick and fresh maintaining a degree of crunch. It was not very sweet, so if you're looking for more of that artificial canned fruit type of pastry, this isn't it. This was the only pastry I finished, but not because I didn't want to flan croissant muffin because I did. However, I'm a kind wife and let my husband have the best of the bunch. Oh my gosh, was it divine. Now I'm not opposed to flan, but it's never on my radar. But this?! Everything about it was heavenly - a lovely meld of freshness and textures! Crunchy, creamy, flaky. A perfect balance of sweetness. Fantastic! Give me 10 more. All in all, make your way over there if you're not already in the car. This place has a high rating for a reason.

Cardamom bun, everything croissant, and ham and cheese croissant

Much better experience these times! Last week I tried the everything croissant, ham and cheese croissant, and the cardamom bun. I loved all of these! The croissants are super flaky, not greasy. I didn't realize the everything croissant was stuffed, which probably should be indicated. I heated up the ham and cheese croissant a bit when I got home. I was especially surprised by how much I liked the cardamom bun. I think it was the addition of sugar. I wouldn't hesitate to order any of these again! Went back this week to give their almond croissant another try and I also tried the apple galette ($10 for both items). The almond croissant is rather large. It doesn't have much filling. I'm still not a huge fan. The apple galette was very good. The apples were soft and sweet. It was never terribly busy on each of my visits. I was able to park in their lot. There was always an employee available to take an order. Someone always asked if you needed help or were being helped already. Now I may continue going back each week so I can continue to try all the offerings!

Really nice, cozy location with lots of bakery options. Four stars for the ambiance and quickness of service, but taking off one star because the price is sooo high. I got a croissant and baguette which were okay but I spent like $10 for a tiny meat mince pie and the mince pie wasn't even delicious. I don't think I'll be back unfortunately.

What can I say about Balthazar's bakery that people don't already know... Except the fact that despite the long minds during the holidays, it's still a hidden gem serving up some of the best baked goods in Bergen County. For the moment you park your car and walk out the door, you'll get hit with a waft of buttery delicious goodness that's baking just steps away. You'll try your very best not to want to eat and purchase everything. The staff there are all very nice, but understand that when it's busy, they don't have time to chitchat. I also highly suggest that while waiting on line that you appreciate the clean, warm, and inviting brick showroom and all the wonderful choices of breads, pastries, and quiches (amongst other things).

No seats, just takeout. Mostly pastries and bread, no hot food

Do they have profiteroles?

I have been a customer for years, here and in the restaurant in NYC. I have never seen them on the menu or in the display case. Best I can tell, the answer is no...

Lets start with the good, the cheese empanada was very cheese and with a lightly crispy/flaky crust. My daughter loved this! The caprese sandwich was warmed and so delicious! The chocolate mousse cup was light and airy with a crisp dark chocolate cup. One of the best mousse i have had! The cannolis my daughter loved . Now the bad... We ordered the mint lemonade for my daughter and found a bug in it ( like a fruit fly) as soon as it was brought to our table. When i took it back to the counter the lady just smiled at me and offered to replace saying she didnt "think" it was from the machine and just flying around. I told her it was unacceptable and would have been more upsetting had my daughter drank it. Then was given a light apology but thats all , which is so strange to me . Then i received the chai ( which at the counter i was informed could be made less sweet). It was overpoweringly sweet, when i took this back they said it was a premixed powder and already has the sweet mixed in ( very strange why i was told it could be adjusted then :/). Anyways, overall a nice clean place but check your drinks before drinking for sure . Loved all the food items we got though !

So once I had some life events coming up, I knew Chic Sugars would be the best bakery to handle my custom orders. In short, I've ordered two custom cakes from Chic Sugars - a gender reveal and a baby shower cake. Both cakes were beyond beautiful and more than that, the cake inside was always so delicious and moist!!! Other bakeries I've had cake at sometimes do decor really nice but the taste can lack so Chic Sugars really impressed! Their cakes are not that sweet and the fillings are to die for. For the gender reveal cake, it was white cake and raspberry buttercream filling. For the baby shower cake, it was white cake with one tier that had canoli filling and the other tier that had chocolate raspberry ganache. Honestly, you truly can not go wrong with any of these flavors but if I HAD to rank it, it would be 1. Canoli 2. Chocolate Raspberry Ganache 3. Raspberry buttercream. The employees at Chic Sugars are incredibly supportive and easy to work with when you are explaining your vision to them AND their online portal makes it super super easy to place orders. Whether you stop by to enjoy some one-off sweets or place a custom order - I really can not recommend this place enough. Always professional and they offer really great quality products!!
