Drove an hour to this bakery because I've been on a search to find caneles in NJ. It was a quick and easy pick up. I'm not sure what a canele is supposed to taste like; but it had a crunchy, almost burnt exterior, and a soft, but solid pudding-like middle. Although I came to try the canele, it was this day that I fell in love with the kouign amann. It's like an amazing buttery flakey croissant, but with a crispy, sweet exterior. So far one of my favorite bakeries/cafes in Bergen County area. First of all, their coffee/espresso drinks are amazing- Stumptown beans all the way! Their pastries are simply mouth watering and just so different than other bread. (Raisin walnut toast 10/10 recommend) However, there isn't really a table area- not ideal for studying or long chats. Yay! I'm a fan. I was in the area running errands and decided to finally stop by this place I had bookmarked months ago. I was so pleasantly surprised :) I tried: - green tea + white chocolate scone - "pearl" brioche - blueberry brioche - stumptown ice coffee This place is known for their brioche -- I hear the chef used to work at the 2 michelin starred Jungsik (oh HEY)! The "pearl" one has just sugar crystals on top but the bread was so soft and deliciously buttery with the occasional crunch from the crystals. The scone had that perfect moist-to-crumbly scone consistence that I love. The white chocolate wasn't too overpowering and allowed the green tea to shine through. The blueberry cream inside was also just .. perfect. Can't wait to go back and try more things -- curious about the soy bread, passion fruit brioche, and other pastries. YUM. read more

Newly opened small cafe which serves stumptown coffee and fresh French style baked goods. They have a small parking area shared with other stores in the building and side street parking. They don't have a table, just small bar with 4-5 stools to drink coffee and quick bites. Everybody just came in to pick up pastries and coffee. If they had tables, it would be packed!! I'm sure. Coffee was bold and strong, if you like stumptown coffee this place is perfect for you. Barista who works here knows what he is doing. From cappuccino to latte, they are all excellent. I love their pastries and breads. I confess that I got addicted after one bite. My favorites are Blueberry Brioche and passion fruit brioche. They are so good. No words are needed, just go and try! Ham and cheese croissant was good too. I regretted that I ordered only one. I also tried miso bread, soy bread, cream cheese bun, green tea scone, apricot tarts.... Well.... It is an amazing little pastry shop. Now I found a gem with a great french style breads, croissants and tarts etc. I love canele, brioche with manggo creme, ham&cheese croissants, soymilk bread so much!! And there are some creative pastries I haven't seen before such as miso baguette and herb something roll. They are all wonderful buttery creation. And last but not least, Coffee is really tasty!! I love this cute little cafe/bakery. The chai is perfectly spiced, and even with almond milk, it's not too sweet. The tea brand they carry is really good, too. The pastries are baked fresh and are absolutely amazing in the morning. Ever been to the super small La Colombe location in NYC? The taste of the espresso and size of the shop reminds me of that. SUCH good quality. The online ordering is kind of confusing though. I ordered online and added 2 shots plus flavoring and wasn't sure how to pick this up.. when I went to the register to let them know they made it fresh with me there but didn't do the double shot or flavoring so overspent on this. Was very chaotic in the morning a ton of ppl long line. 5 stars due to quality I'd go back again but in person and not order online to avoid confusion again. Pastries are so good! read more

Visited the bakery earlier today and loved the atmosphere of the store! So cute I got several of their pastries but my favorite was the soy bread and blueberry brioche. So, I heard somewhere through the grapevine that the head pâtissier (pastry chef) at La Tabatiere was trained and/or worked under a fancy French pâtissier in NYC. I have absolutely no idea if this claim is true, but it was enough to catch my attention and make me want to try out the bakery myself. Although it has been open for a while now, I haven't actually been able to make my way over until this recent holiday season. Although so many baked goods caught my attention (the multiple varieties of brioches which I heard are delicious and the miso bread which looked fantastic) what I ended up purchasing on my first visit here were two dessert items - the Opera and the Pumpkin Cheesecake. The Opera is rich, and everything you would expect it to taste like from it's flaky layers to its rich and decadent chocolate topping. The Pumpkin Cheesecake is extremely light and airy and while it's sweet, you don't realize how sweet it is while you're eating because it's so light. You can't compare the two as the two items are each delicious in their own totally different ways. While the techniques are French, you can also notice a little bit of a Korean influence on the tastes and flavors which was nice - a little fusion never hurt anyone, and I personally enjoyed it. I brought both of the pastries to a family gathering, and every single person was quite impressed with not only how beautifully crafted the desserts were, but also how delicious they were as well. In fact, many people asked me where I had picked them up from so that they themselves could visit on their own. That in itself is an accomplishment because how often are you able to please everyone?! In addition to their baked goods, the store has a nice system set up. They have all of their items on display in the store (which is very small, standing room only really for purchasing and then leaving) and then they go to the back to grab you, what I trust is a fresh baked version of the item on display. The employees up front were courteous and friendly as well which is always something I take note on as customer service ranks high on my list. My only "complaints" about La Tabatiere are how pricey the items are (each item was approximately 5"x5" in size and cost $28 each), their lack of parking (there are only three street parking spots in front of the store and they share a lot with another building and other stores), and that they don't offer paper copies of their receipt. However, none of this will be stopping me from becoming a regular! read more

One word: SCRUMPTIOUS!! Been hearing about this cute little bakery for months and finally had the chance to stop by while visiting friends in the neighborhood. They had a wonderfully diverse assortment of baked goods and everything is as tasty as it looks! I ordered a blueberry Danish and matcha latte. Then I tried a sample of their matcha/white chocolate scone and HAD to order that as well. Wow. Heaven. The taste was just to my liking - sweet but delicate flavors that made me feel like I was eating a real breakfast, not just dessert! The setup of their bakery was also neat. I love that the back wall is a window that lets you watch the master pastry chef rolling dough and baking new goods. Only downside is things get pretty busy, and it's a teeny shop with barely any seating. I went at 10am on a Sunday and within half an hour there was a line almost out the door. But that's just a testament to their popularity with locals! La Tabatiere is only run by 3 people at a time - the pastry chef, the barista, and the cashier - so mad props to them for juggling so many orders at a time! 10/10 for food and service.
