Had dinner with a friend here tonight, and the food was very good. The green onion pancake was delicious. It wasn't dry or cake-like as most other places I've tried. We also ordered the "chicken nuggets," which was your basic Taiwanese friend chicken. Nothing special here, tastes about the same as what you'd get at a Quickly. The bamboo shoot and pork rice was very tasty, though I'm not a big fan of the fatty pork. Finally, we got the duck vermicelli soup which had delicious, smokey duck and a flavorful broth. However... the best part of the whole meal was the shaved ice. It's not a joke when people say it's amazing. My friend raved about this days before we went to the point that I thought they only served shaved ice. We had the 5 item (honestly, I don't remember what it was called) shaved ice... and it was very good. Heck, I didn't even care about the taro balls, grass jelly, mung beans, red beans, or anything else at the bottom. It was the ice that was DELICIOUS, with what I assume to be condensed milk and molasses. Seriously, it made the rest of the meal pale by comparison. Their shaved ice is good but their food is overrated. I recommend you check out Liang's Village Cuisine a block away on Baldwin Avenue if you're looking for a cheap Taiwanese food fix. Liang's has handmade noodles that are so delicious! Sinbala's noodle soups have msg and the noodles are generally stiff though you can ask for them to not put msg in the food. The only thing worth getting is their Taiwanese Sinbala sausage, oyster omelet, and sticky rice if you're into that sort of thing. Whenever I'm back in the SGV and have a craving for Taiwanese food, I always go to SinBala. Even though it's always crowded, the wait goes by pretty quickly. The fried chicken rice is my absolutely favorite and comes with corn, cabbage, scrambled eggs with tomatoes and lu rou (marinated pork). The pork chop version is pretty good too, but I prefer the chicken. Some of the other dishes I like are the homemade chicken roll and of course, the Taiwanese sausage. This sausage tastes pretty much like the ones I remember eating in Taiwan. They serve their sausage with different toppings, and you can choose from normal options such as sliced garlic to weird ones such as chocolate and strawberry. We usually just stick with the garlic. I've also tried the turnip cakes and the green onion pancakes, but they're not that great. I've never tried the shaved ice, but they seem to have many different toppings available. The servers here are always very friendly. I would say the only thing that's annoying is that they only take cash, but since this is Arcadia, that's to be expected. read more

If you go to sinbala you have to get their sausage plate n spicy wontons cuz....they are awesome!! Every time I go with my sister we order that and share n it comes it comes out to like 6 bucks a person. they have pretty good service n they also have really good shaved ice. but come early our else you'll be waiting awhile cuz it gets really busy at night. This is a hole in the wall restaurant and this review is only for their shaved ice. This place is right around the corner from Din Tai Fung Dumpling House, so after eating some dumplings, walk on over for some yummy shaved ice. My MIL said this is the best shaved ice place she has found. I had to try it and I must say, it is really good, not sure about the best though. What's unique about this place is they add brown sugar syrup to their ice in addition to condensed milk. It really adds to the flavor of the ice. Also not to mention the dozen or so items you can choose from. We got the special where they combine 8 items for you. You get a big bowl (enough to share for 2) and it's cheap! I LOVE TAIWANESE FOOD!!! Yes, I might even like it more than Korean... shame on me. The beef noodle soup here is some serious stuff. I am obsessed with beef noodle soup. It's on of my favorites... asian comfort food yumminess. I love it when the meat is tender and not full of fat. This place does it perfectly for me! Taiwanese sausage! I remember going over to my friend's place in middle school. Her dad used to make Taiwanese sausage all the time for us. This dish brings back memories. I love coming here whenever I'm in the area. Sausage rice. Mmmmm. Such a good deal. I've also gotten the duck soup with noodles. Yum! Goooood, cheap taiwanese food. Couldn't ask for more. It does get crowded though, so be warned. Also, the waiters don't speak English very well. Just stick to ordering with pointing and the numbers if you don't speak Mandarin. SinBala is a one stop shop for the requisite Taiwanese fried pork chop over rice and shaved ice dessert. It takes talented folks to do both well, Sinbala doesn't the highest superlatives in either department, still the balance of both is appreciated. The fried pork chop over rice makes a great meal. It comes with enough veggies (cabbage) to balance out the deep fry, and enough yummy scrambled egg to cancel the veggies back out! The pork chop is lightly breaded, and much leaner than Old Country Cafe's. So, my nod goes to SinBala for it's larger portions, variety in the meal and leaner cuts of pork, although it is a buck or so more than the competitors. The homemade sausage is also excellent. Harder in texture than most sausage, giving it the impression that it is lower in fat than most sausage, and therefore more high quality. It is also sufficiently salty to leave you thirsty after consuming with the pork chop. Do note: The shaved ice is not really "snow ice." Snow ice is the light fluffy stuff that can not be crunched in your mouth as it is basically powdered ice. The shaved ice here more like a snow cone as it the mound of frozen water consists of larger crystals of ice that you can conceivably crunch on. Drenched with a brown sugar sauce and condensed milk, it its still tasty, but it is not the fine powdered snow ice that some other establishments sell. 4 stars for the pork chop and sausage, but lost a star for the shaved ice. read more

My favorite restaurant, ever! Good service, friendly owners, great Taiwanese food. Service is always friendly and fast. The sausage is made at the store. It is delicious with thinly sliced garlic. Beef noodle soup is so flavorful and spicy. Dumplings are good and you can even buy them frozen to make at home. Green onion pancakes are good and it comes with a soy garlic dipping sauce. They also have the best oyster egg pancakes. The sauce on that is so authentic. Plus, you can get that vegetarian style. We have been regulars since they opened. I been here several times. I love taiwanese food and shave ice especially! I don't know what it is, but I love their shave ice the most vs other places~ This is a small casual place, personally i don't mind at all, but you may need to wait for seats, as they are always full. & probably not great for groups since the place is quite small, & your table will be pretty close to others. I think price is reasonable. They're famous for the taiwanese sausage. I've been here twice and I hope to go back. I thought their food was great! Keep in mind I am no Taiwanese / Chinese food expert. Their shaved ice was delicious, even with red bean on it ;) My husband ate the most of it and then looked at me like "what you wanted some." I also tried their sausage with peanut butter. It was okay, nothing spectacular. Next time I think I will try something different. FYI it is very crowded! So be prepared to wait. Also, there are a lot of ppl smoking in their patio area which is a little off putting. THE BEST AND MOST AUTHENTIC TAIWANESE FOOD EVER. They're especially famous for the Taiwanese Sausage Rice, but everything else is sooo good. For the most part, their portions are just right. The place is kinda small and often crowded, but the lines go fast and worth the wait. The plaza is located near a supermarket, so it's often hard to find parking especially since it's in Arcadia. However, not too bad. You can't go wrong with trying any of the items on the menu. Also, they have really good Taiwanese shaved ice and tofu dessert and Herb Jelly Dessert too! Ironically whenever I had a craving for this place it happens to be on a Tuesday and it's closed. That's a bit of an annoyance to me but that's just my own body cruelly teasing me with what I can't have. In any case, to SinBala itself. I would say it's pretty authentic Taiwanese because it's an Asian place that's cash only and the food doesn't have anything like orange chicken or whatever our fellow Americans like to call Asian food. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the food is amazing, but it is quite good and hits the spot every time I've gone. I usually like to get 2 or 3 things and share among friends as that's really the best way to eat anything in my opinion. I usually always get the sausage and rice dish as it's what I believe this place is known best for. (my favorite remains mei chai fatty pork but they have since discontinued this dish, i can't find mei chai in market anymore that's not completely caked in sand,maybe they couldn't too) beef noodle soup oyster pancakes are very good as well. this tofu dish that is both good for cold and hot weather. i used to get shaved ice with condense milk, rice balls as a dessert but I've started getting the tofu dessert instead. its very sweet and silky reminds me the impeccable skin of a fair maiden. and pumpkin vermicelli is very yummy and vegetarian to me all of their clear soup noodles are no good. the broth taste like its composed of only hot water, dried onion, scallion, and white pepper. read more

We ordered the oyster pancake which came with a lot of oysters on it (I'm used to the skimpy amount in Dallas). The sauce itself I wish was a bit sweeter. We ordered the sausage with garlic and it was pretty much your standard Taiwanese sausage. Nothing too memorable. The Taiwanese meatball itself was really tasty, but like the oyster pancake, the sweet chili sauce on it was lacking in taste. We also got 2 iced milk teas, and one hot milk tea. This is my favorite Taiwanese restaurant. I have been eating here every other week for about fifteen years. My favorite dish is the pork bamboo shoot rice. I also like the mushroom pancake and fried pork chop. The only thing I don't like that much are their sausages because of the sweetness. Great Place to come when you're feeling some local Taiwanese food. I love there Spicy Beef Noodle, its full of flavor and I think about $6. There famous oyster Egg omelette is also very good except it has a gooey texture but very flavorful! This place is also known for there sausages except I don't like eatting meat so I have never tired it. But they do have popcorn chicken and it was very good. I never would have thought to go here for dessert, but I guess it's known for shaved ice. I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never had the kind of shaved they serve. It's pretty cheap. You can get the shaved ice special for $5 which includes your choice of toppings, such as red bean, jelly, various fruits, flan, etc. I was definitely surprised at how big the portion was. It's basically a huge volcano-esque mound of shaved ice with your toppings mixed in somewhere. The flan was pleasantly delicious. The food was yummy definitelyyy - I got a pancake with like a ketchup dressing on the top... the pancake was good - but the dressing was too overwhelming - so it was pretty easy to get tired of it. Came here on a last minute whim. Right away I saw how popular this place was. Even though we had to write our names on a long list, we were seated in a very short time. As I walked in, I was admiring all the food I saw at everyone's table. We ordered what looks like their specialty, which was the sausage and rice. It was damn good! Though I wish it were hotter. I think they prepare many of them ahead of time, and send it out to us as soon as we get there. It did in fact arrive 5 minutes after we ordered it. We also ordered what we though were steamed pork buns. When they came out, they ended up being soup dumplings! Like the ones you find at Din Tai Fung. Guess if I could read Chinese I would have seen this coming. I did think it was a bit strange that their order of pork would come in 10. Now we know why. I think they were pretty good! Went here for dessert after eating at Din Tai Fung. Had the Taiwanese shaved ice (tsua bing) and it was great and HUGE. For $5 you get to choose 5 toppings for your shaved ice. The one we shared had condensed milk, peanuts, red beans, coconut jelly, and almond tofu. If you want to try Taiwanese dessert, give this place a shot. They also have bubble tea (boba milk tea). What can I say, this place is always my first stop as soon as I touch down LA! Warm greeting from the waitress when you enter. Always quick and react right away of your request. Everything from here are delicious. I have been here many times ordered all kind of dishes like, oyster pancake, meat ball, rice plate, noodle, and don't forget their world famous sausage and shave ice! Love it! I would always buy several pak of sausage before returning back home. They always provide curtesy of adding more ice in my cooler and pak in secure bags.
