I had wanted to try La Ferme since 2020/2021 when I first learned about it. Of course when my husband suggested it for a date night tonight (a Friday) I jumped at it. It has to be the most charming restaurant in the DMV. From the outside to the inside with the high ceilings and wooden beams, it oozes charm. It's dated but in the cutest way imaginable. There's love piano, which only added to the charm (have I used that word enough yet?). We were seated as soon as we arrived and were given the massive wine and food menus. They were a bit awkward due to size. I ordered a glass of the German Riesling and asked the server if it's sweet. His response was that it's fruity. Yes, but is it sweet? I was a bit surprised that a server at an upscale restaurant didn't know the difference between sweet vs fruit-forward. I got it and took a chance. Thankfully, it was a dry wine that was fruit forward. I got the scallop & lobster risotto appetizer and the seafood pot pie for my entree. Both were rich, creamy, and full of seafood goodness. I was pleasantly surprised that the pot pie came with string beans on the side, as it wasn't listed on the menu. The only thing I can knock La Ferme for aesthetically is the women's restroom. The floor tiles and walls are beautiful and stick with the French theme. The stalls themselves give off high school gym bathroom vibes. They were metal with chipping paint. I say they knock those suckers down and replace them with some beautifu,l wooden bathroom stall walls and doors. It would make SUCH a difference. The rest of the restaurant transports you to another place, but those stalls bring you right back to a place that no one particularly wants to visit (maybe a road trip rest stop?). Change the bathroom stalls and educate the staff about wine, and you've got a five star restaurant.

Beautiful, delightful French restaurant with a fabulous fireplace roaring in the winter. The food is delicious with a a wide variety of traditional French plates. Service is attentive. Make your you consider the soufflé early because the order needs to be put in at the beginning of the meal.

Chocolate Souffle

I have always found that ketchup or dipping sauces can fix most French fries or pomme frites. But I always do a little happy dance in my seat when they are so perfectly done that you do not need or want anything to dip them in. That was my experience last night with the truffle fries that accompanied the filet mignon. It was the first time I have eaten beef in over three years. I had planned on the salmon but when I saw the plate I was swayed and not disappointed. I'd recommend the onion soup and radicchio salad for starters and finished the meal happy with the chocolate soufflé with vanilla sauce. I wrestled between 4-5 stars as we sat in a corner for 25 minutes without taking a drink order. But as the waiter explained the error and apologized for it, I allowed the food to sway me.

Just a lovely place to celebrate our anniversary. Beautiful old house with quaint French country decor on the inside. We ordered the skirt steak (specials menu) and filet mignon (regular menu). Both pieces of meat came out to perfection. My filet mignon had the perfect pink and juices. I don't believe I've had a better piece of meat anywhere else. We added the potato gratin and it was creamy and delicious. For dessert, we got the praline and Grand Marnier souffles. I have never had souffle before so had to try it since it was supposedly, "The best dessert in town!" Our server informed us that we needed to order this at the beginning of our meal since it takes 45 minutes to prepare. Though I conclude that souffles are probably not what I expected, my partner enjoyed it and finished mine as well! Service was excellent and attentive. Just a wonderful dining experience. Parking: Easy on a weeknight. Spaces are a little tight.

This might have to be one of my favorite restaurants that I have recently been to. My girlfriend and I went here for our three-year anniversary, and I am happy to say that they did not disappoint us. The hostess and staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and gave us a seating area on the second floor floor balcony without having to ask, making the night all the more romantic. The most important thing for a restaurant for me is to have a fantastic ambiance, to which surpassed expectations with the decors rustic elegance and faint murmur of live piano music. On top of that, the french onion soup, La Chateaubriand and chocolate soufflé was incredible. Incredible and romantic date spot.

Nice charming French restaurant in the heart of Chevy Chase. Good for a romantic date and for baguettes, souffles, and food overall. French onion soup was good, but I thought it was too pricy. I did not like the pate. Good service and nice ambiance rounds out the experience. However, this place is definitely for those who prefer a older feel to their ambiance, and have a deep pocket.

Went to celebrate a professional win. The ambience is very cozy, not quite a house since it had a fairly open floor plan, but welcoming all the same. The parking was free, a nice treat compared to DC and Bethesda. Split a few courses: sea bass, soufflé, scallop appetizer. All were fantastic eats. The most memorable is the soufflé; repeated scraping of the ramekin good! And the brussel sprouts, a surprising treatment of the vegetable. Thinly sliced for maximum crunch but still more heft than thin leaves.

The setting is beautiful. The service is great. Our appetizer was the endive salad. A great way to start the meal. It has so many elements. The crisp bitter endive. The savory blue cheese. Crunch from walnuts and sweetness of apple. Our first entree was trout almandine. Perfectly cooked trout with a side of green beans. The second entrée was filet mignon in a brown sauce. Great flavors again, but one star off for some tough portions that were too hard to chew. Fries and green beans as sides. The chocolate soufflé for dessert was scrumptious. All in all a great night out enjoying classic French cuisine.

Very nice decor (very French, complete with a giant rooster), balcony seating, big cozy fireplace, good food, limited menu choices, inattentive, slacking service, huge on-site parking lot. Unique architecture and venue but a bit overpriced (even by Chevy Chase standards). We came here on Valentine's Day, and with the prices they were charging, we were expecting better service. We had a reservation and arrived on time. We were quickly seated. We were lucky to get a table in the corner which is quieter. Tables under the big roof would be much noisier. We ordered cocktails and our main dishes: sea scallops (tiny scallops, contrary to our expectations, but nicely presented) and the other dish is lobster salad. Both were delicious and came relatively promptly. Fresh bread was presented as well. However, we waited for an hour for the dessert despite prodding our waitress multiple times. What a let down. They clearly forgot to place our order or forgot to tell the kitchen we were done with our main course. Either way someone dropped the ball somewhere in the chain of command. It was nearly impossible to get the attention of, or wave down, our waitress. We were expecting a culinary event on the special occasion, and yet in the end I can't say it's worth coming all the way out here for the French experience. (Toilet was clean and decorated; see my photos) L'Auberge Chez Francois at Great Falls, VA, is a much better bet if you want a French dining experience.

What a special anniversary dinner we had at La Ferme! The food was delicious, as always, the server was absolutely kind and patient! While the portions are small, they are delectable. We had gravlax, foie gras, seafood risotto, and Truite Amandine. A lovely glass of Pinot Noir, For dessert, one of their special soufflés, (chocolate!) and a creme brulée to die for!! Special touches were greatly appreciated, notably the "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate on each dessert plate. What a special night!

Is it loud? Planning a lunch with a hard of hearing friend

We went for an early dinner on a weekend and it was not loud at all. Lovely setting and atmosphere.

I am from out of town staying in DC. and be attending a luncheon at La Ferme. Which is the closest metro stop to the restaurant ? Thank you!

There really isn't a direct way into this quaint neighborhood. No metro train stop nearby, but you could take metro buses. This site can help you figure out your transfers. https://moovitapp.com… Read more

Good variety and not too many options. There's meat, veggies, and seafood. I'm uncertain whether they can specifically modify any dishes for vegan. - Quality. Delicious. My trout was nicely filleted, well seasoned (not overly salty), and the skin was extra crispy. It was served over a bed of celery, potatoes, and cauliflower that were tender. Their shoestring fries were not overly salty and were nicely crispy. Their seasonal dish of grilled shrimp with their barley salad was also very flavorful. The shrimp were well-seasoned and a nice texture (i.e., not overly cooked/rubbery). The profiteroles were sweet, but not overly so, and had a nice amount of chocolate sauce drizzled over it. - Service. Excellent. Our waitress was attentive and checked in on us within decent time intervals, refilled our water glasses - Location. Conveniently located within a plaza with many different options. You can walk around and check out other shops, as well. During nice weather, there's supposedly outdoor seating. Their tables don't appear to be able to seat parties in the double digits. - Layout. Inside layout is not decent, but not expansive. There are a fair number of booths and tables. I've been told that the provide outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Given the limited seating, I highly recommend making reservations. What's Not - Acoustics. Terrible inside. We could barely hear the wait staff who talked to us. We had to ask her several times to repeat the information she gave us Sound carries very easily inside, especially when it's full. - Parking. There is parking in the area, but depending on the day you come, it can be difficult to find. Given that I was there during on a Sunday afternoon, it was difficult to find parking. The nearby outdoor lots were all filled and street parking was difficult to find. Fortunately, my friends told me about a parking lot at the nearby Porsche dealership, which was not costly and is well-automated. For about the 2 hours I was there, I paid under $4 total. The Porsche parking lot is also able to read your license plate. - Cost. To be fair, it's going to depend on what you order. When you combine drinks, any seasonal dishes (and the wait staff did not tell us the cost of the seasonal dishes we ordered), and dessert, it's a fair amount. - Reservations. Definitely recommend making reservations, rather than walking in. Final Answer Would be willing to come back here again, but probably not a first choice.

Boy, does she look beautiful now!!! Last time I reviewed this restaurant, I was underwhelmed by the dining room. It was generic, dated and - my main memory - the floor was greasy and slippery. Now, the renovations show a beautiful new restaurant with high end finishes and fancy decor. Whoever redecorated this place did a fabulous job! So, I take back my old review and state very clearly that Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda is stunning, first rate and very high end looking. The food was very good. We started with escargot and mussels. The mussels were a bit bland in my opinion. Yes, there was garlic, yes, there was onion, yes there was wine but the overall flavor was just sort of mediocre. The escargot, on the other hand, were beautifully cooked, prepared and seasoned. The garlic and other seasonings turned what is really just a garden pest into delightful little bite of intense flavor. I loved them! For our main courses, 3 of us got beef. Of course, it was well prepared. The French fries were crisp, hot and lightly salted. I did not want to share them. My zero-proof drink was lovely! I had the grapefruit cooler and it was a perfect balance of tart, sweet and bubbly. This place paid a lot of attention to a non-alcoholic beverage. That says a lot to me!!! The service was not up to the beautiful appearance of the dining room. We had spotty attention and a lack of focus from our waiter. At the end of the evening, they really rushed us out. But, overall, I am impressed with what has happened at Mon Ami Gabi. Will I be back? Oh yes! Do I recommend it? Definitely!

I've read many of the reviews, and many of the negative reviews, in my mind, are unfair because it seems the reviewer didn't know what they were getting when they went. It is expensive, it is French, and the chef makes every dish himself. So yes, the service can be slow and the dishes (particularly the specials) are very expensive. But everything I have had there -- the Branzino, the lobster purses, the bread, the steak -- have all been outstanding except the apple tart which I frankly don't like that much (but that's just a personal taste thing -- I prefer more crust and a sweeter dessert). The staff there is great -- many have been there for years -- BUT the service IS slow (see above, chef making every dish himself) and can be epically slow, hence my deduction of a star. If you're looking for a long, leisurely, special, French dinner -- this is the place for you. If you're looking for a different experience, don't go and don't complain when you get the experience you were looking for.

I've been here twice in November 2014 & November 2023. Funny both times were in the month of November, but 9 years apart. November 2014: I was living in northern VA, and I received free tickets to see Interstellar as this theater had recently opened. My impression in 2014 and still holds true today is that this is the nicest theater I had ever been to. Some theaters have reclining seats, but these are large and you get a blanket if you want. There were some good food options, granted overpriced for what you got, were tasty. I brought a date for those movie showing and paid for our food. I got a burger, and she got a flatbread pizza. Burger was good as I recall. 2017 to coming back here in November 2023: I moved to Maryland in 2017, Wheaton 2017-2020, so wasn't too far from Pike & Rose and did go there sometimes. However, in 2018 I became an AMC A-Lister, so I just go there unless there's a free advanced screening or specific movie I really want to see at Egyptian Cinemark or a Regal that isn't at AMC. In November 2023, iPic held an advanced screening of the Netflix movie, Leave the World Behind. I had 4 tickets, invited several friends. There was a woman I liked who had agreed to go initially, but had an issue with someone else who had promptly responded she would go. Incidentally, the woman who I liked became my girlfriend in February 2024, so it worked out well. Shortly after that she buried the hatchet with that mutual friend. As for the movie screening, while not as great as Interstellar, it was still the same positive experience I remembered from 9 years earlier. Things were chaotic as we were trying to get the food & drink, which was included, but we had to check on the food during the middle of the movie, and I missed the very beginning of the movie as a lot of people did. There was quite a bit of time beforehand, but even with the delays occurring, they should've started the movie late unless there was some late movie showing in that particular theater at 10 PM or something. It has really gone down hill. There was nothing good or redeeming about our experience. Let's start with the ludicrous check in process. You pre-purchase your tickets and they give you an Apple wallet pass. When you get off the elevator there is a clear path to the theaters with a person standing at a podium. However, don't you dare go directly to this person. You need to go check in at the ticket booth so they can give you paper tickets. Then you go back to the podium to show them the paper tickets and go to your theater. It wouldn't be that annoying if every single person didn't do this unnecessary round trip. I watched six families lug their children up and back while standing there. Put up a sign. State this absurd process in the email. Next the service. They include a required 18% gratuity on the bill. For good reason. They would have gotten none if it was discretionary. We were in our seats fifteen minutes before the movie start. Nobody took our order until fifteen minutes into the movie. Food didn't show up until two thirds of the way through the movie. Why spend several hundred dollars to take your kids to dinner and a movie if you don't get dinner and a movie. The people two seats over never got their food. The check never came. I had to ask for the check after the lights were on and credits over. Super annoying when sitting there with three kids under 7. Now the food, barely edible is being generous. It tasted like every item had been submerged in a bucket of grease before, during, and after cooking. I now know what the penguins at an oil spill feel like. Horrible. For the price point service should be good, food decent, and experience frictionless. Ipic bethesda failed in all respects.
