Had dinner with friends this past Friday and the food was okay. Ordered the truffle gnocchi, burger, and ceasar salad and none of it really stood out. The gnocchi was the biggest let down, small portion for it being pretty pricey, and tasted somewhat bitter. Burger meat needs more seasoning, tasted quite bland. And ceasar salad was basic. For my drink, I got the blackberry lemonade and it felt a little diluted. The dinner rolls were okay, tasted like basic rolls, just toasted. The only good things were the drinks and dessert. My wife's chateau and mon Cheri tasted pretty good. And the profiteroles were solid, though it could've been more crispy. Also, our server was pretty good. Not sure if I'll be back unless for drinks.

    Chicken Kabob Meal

I've been to Julii at least a dozen times, and it never disappoints. The chicken kabob is consistently excellent! It is always perfectly seasoned, tender, and one of those dishes I keep coming back for without hesitation. One thing I really appreciate is the consistency of the menu. You always know your favorites will be there, which makes it an easy go-to spot. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service has always been great.

I've been here a couple of times now and it never disappoints. It's tucked into a smaller space right in the heart of Pike & Rose, which gives it a more intimate feel. The staff is always friendly and professional. On our most recent visit, we came for happy hour. My wife and I were starving, so we grabbed seats at the bar and ended up ordering more than we probably should have. I spent a solid few minutes debating between two fish entrees... and somehow still ended up ordering the burger. No regrets though, it was a really good one. My wife got the Lamb Tagine, which is her go to, but I definitely stole a few bites. We also ordered the Julii Wedge, Scallop Crudo, and the Labneh. Everything came out great. The bartenders were easy to talk to, helpful, and kept things moving without rushing us. Julii is a great date night spot or just a good place to stop into after walking around Pike and Rose. Consistently good food, service, and atmosphere.

It seems the menu stayed the same. The portion was big but the taste was bland. Outdoor can be hot even with umbrellas. The service was ok. It took quite a while for the food. The presentation was nice!

Woot woot! I was pleasantly surprised by my brunch visit today to Julii's! I was here spending my Mother's Day and birthday with my son and so glad we picked this hotspot. First off we love the fact that the brunch runs through 2:30 PM, and we noticed that it was packed because reputation is that they have the most amazing food that is prepared fresh in their scratch kitchen! We love the blend of French, Iranian and German flavors in so many unique and amazing dishes. We had the crispy trout, which was insanely good and the Shashuka... our waiter was top-notch and the atmosphere was perfect. We even enjoyed sitting outside with the weather being perfect today. Thank you so much for making my birthday and Mother's Day so wonderful.

Went to Julii my second visit for a dinner celebrating an expecting friend. Our reservation was set for one of the igloos which was very cute and surprisingly comfortable set with its own little heater if we needed to adjust to temperature. Our server was attentive and shared lots of details for menu items we asked about. The table ordered a variety of dishes we all shared and enjoyed. My dish was the scallops with risotto which I enjoyed especially since the the risotto texture was nice and soft, the cheese in the dish paired nicely with the mushrooms and scallops that were cooked beautifully -crisp outside but retaining their soft juicy middles. Only thing I was not a huge fan of was my passion fruit soda but everyone else enjoyed their beverages alcoholic and otherwise. We also enjoyed and shared a pistachio brittle crème brûlée which was a nice way to wrap things up!

Came here for lunch for the first time with a couple of friends. I ordered the crispy trout and my friends ordered the mushroom omelette, ham and cheese omelette, shoestring french fries, shrimp appetizer, and profiteroles. What's Hot - Menu. Good variety and not too many options. There's meat, veggies, and seafood. I'm uncertain whether they can specifically modify any dishes for vegan. - Quality. Delicious. My trout was nicely filleted, well seasoned (not overly salty), and the skin was extra crispy. It was served over a bed of celery, potatoes, and cauliflower that were tender. Their shoestring fries were not overly salty and were nicely crispy. Their seasonal dish of grilled shrimp with their barley salad was also very flavorful. The shrimp were well-seasoned and a nice texture (i.e., not overly cooked/rubbery). The profiteroles were sweet, but not overly so, and had a nice amount of chocolate sauce drizzled over it. - Service. Excellent. Our waitress was attentive and checked in on us within decent time intervals, refilled our water glasses - Location. Conveniently located within a plaza with many different options. You can walk around and check out other shops, as well. During nice weather, there's supposedly outdoor seating. Their tables don't appear to be able to seat parties in the double digits. - Layout. Inside layout is not decent, but not expansive. There are a fair number of booths and tables. I've been told that the provide outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Given the limited seating, I highly recommend making reservations. What's Not - Acoustics. Terrible inside. We could barely hear the wait staff who talked to us. We had to ask her several times to repeat the information she gave us Sound carries very easily inside, especially when it's full. - Parking. There is parking in the area, but depending on the day you come, it can be difficult to find. Given that I was there during on a Sunday afternoon, it was difficult to find parking. The nearby outdoor lots were all filled and street parking was difficult to find. Fortunately, my friends told me about a parking lot at the nearby Porsche dealership, which was not costly and is well-automated. For about the 2 hours I was there, I paid under $4 total. The Porsche parking lot is also able to read your license plate. - Cost. To be fair, it's going to depend on what you order. When you combine drinks, any seasonal dishes (and the wait staff did not tell us the cost of the seasonal dishes we ordered), and dessert, it's a fair amount. - Reservations. Definitely recommend making reservations, rather than walking in. Final Answer Would be willing to come back here again, but probably not a first choice.

    Scallops Risotto

Was looking forward to trying this place as the ambiance looked really nice. I have to be honest,we were a little disappointed. Cocktails were okay. I got the mon cheri. I didn't like the glass it was served in but it wasn't bad. The evil eye could have been spicier. Scallops and risotto was okay, not super flavorful. The rigatoni was overcooked, the pasta was borderline mushy. We asked for the burger to be medium but it was served well done. Not a single bit of pink. Lamb was good but not something we would order again. Not very impressed overall. Probably won't be back.

Julii completely won me over at dinner!!! everything we ordered was so yummy. The scallop risotto was hands down my favorite. Well cooked scallops (not rubber), creamy, rich. The chicken kebab was also delicious, and really every dish that hit the table was SOLID. Add to that the beautiful vibe, attentive service, and it just felt like a place made for a great night out - with the girls. I do want to be honest: I wasn't a fan of their brunch in the past, so I came in a little hesitant... but WOW. dinner is a totally different story and absolutely to die for. The outdoor igloos were really cute too if you're into that. I'll certainly be back for dinner!

Have you ever loved a restaurant so much you went back twice in the same day? That was me here. This Pike & Rose gem in North Bethesda is everything you hope for in a neighborhood spot -- fresh, imaginative Mediterranean-inspired food, a vibrant yet cozy atmosphere, and the kind of place you immediately start planning to revisit. Everything I tried was fantastic, from the perfectly prepared chicken kebabs to the cod with farro. The blackberry vodka cocktail was beautiful and delicious, and the saffron steamed milk with ginger for dessert was absolute perfection. The entire concept feels current, welcoming, and effortlessly cool without trying too hard. Can't wait to return the next time I'm back in town for meetings!

A little pricey so be aware. Gorgeous interior exterior that feels like a treat. One of the best salads we had had in a long time with unique ingredients! Fantastic profiteroles! Solid Bloody Mary. Steak and eggs for brunch was good quality but interestingly a tad bland. Portion size was great and shareable. Wonderful server who obliged so many different requests ! We'll be back.

Came to Julii for a cute little date and didn't disappoint all of the food was amazing! Steak frites was good to perfection. The scallops risotto was so creamy and flavorful! The dinner rolls and the crab cake were great starters. Idk if the crab cake is like one of their favorites but I think it was a nice starters may not be exactly what makes Julii Julii but if you like crab you'll love it. The sauce was amazing pair as well. Service was quick, respectful and informative.

I think this place is wonderful Their cocktails are soooo light and refreshing. I would literally come here just for that. Their food leaves you wanting more. They have these dinner rolls that come with spread that is a must. And TRUST me when I say... get the lamb. It falls off the bone! Service is great! It is a little small so it can get really packed but very much worth it.

Although they offered us the elevator, it was located on the opposite side of the restaurant, making it a bit difficult. I asked if it would be possible to move to the first floor, and they kindly accommodated our request, which we really appreciated. The food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were just as good. The portions are quite generous, so if you're not a big eater, you may want to consider sharing a dish. One thing to note is that the restrooms are gender-neutral. While they were very clean, I found this a little inconvenient when visiting with children. If you plan to go on a weekend, expect the restaurant to be lively and a bit noisy. Also, avoid the parking lot next door if possible--it was very chaotic and not worth the hassle. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience with excellent food, great drinks, and friendly service. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoy French cuisine.

This was such an odd dining experience; I think I had a good time but it was so strange…read more My husband and I happened upon La Grande Boucherie after we were deterred from our original dinner plans. We arrived at 7:45 on a Saturday night to see if there was room for two or at least room at the bar. I wish the hostess had told us that we could wait at the bar for a table to open up, as we saw that's what many other patrons did, but she told us there was bar seating and high tops and so my husband and I went on up. We easily had our choice of two seats at the bar or a high top, and we selected a high top. After 5 minutes of no one acknowledging us, my husband and I told each other we would wait two more minutes before we would bail. Right as we were about to jump ship, a server came by and asked if we wanted menus. We said sure but it was just strange that no one greeted us, it was just "you want menus?" Lol. Another server brought us menus and asked if we would like water and a breadbasket. We said yes and after about 15 minutes, bread arrived. We chatted with the server about what drinks we should order; I ordered a French 75 and my husband ordered a special Sazerac. We also ordered the tuna carpoacio. After about 10 minutes, the server came back and to confirm if I wanted the soft side cocktail and if my husband wanted an old fashioned. We said we did not and corrected him. Then, a server tried to give our drinks to the table next to us and our server corrected him and brought steak tartare. And then he goes "oh wait, did you order this?" We said no and he asked if we wanted it because if not he had to throw it away lol. And then 5 seconds later, the tuna came. Both the tuna carpaccio and the steak tartare were delicious. But this was the entire evening: we ordered something, something else came. I ordered a glass of sparkling rose, and an espresso martini appeared on the house. We had to ask for our bill twice and when we got our bill, it was definitely someone else's. Finally, as we were preparing to go, the original server comes back and goes "here's your espresso martini." Like bro we asked you originally for the check and we are clearly leaving. Luckily, my husband and I had plenty of time before our show, it was a great atmosphere, and the food was super delicious. It was just such a comically bizarre experience and I feel like they are definitely losing money. I think we paid for half of what we ate and drank and probably ate and drank other people's food! Maybe we will go back? Maybe not lol

The food itself was very good--I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked well and was the highlight of my meal. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. When ordering drinks, the waiter specifically asked whether we wanted salt on the rim for our margaritas. We said yes, but the drinks arrived without salt. When we politely asked to have it added, the response felt dismissive and came across as having an attitude. More concerning was how my dairy allergy was handled. I mentioned multiple times that I have a dairy allergy and specifically requested no parmesan on my fries. The waiter seemed to have difficulty understanding the request. When my filet mignon arrived, it was topped with a sauce that I suspected contained dairy. I brought it up to the waiter, who confidently insisted the sauce did not contain dairy and was simply a peppercorn sauce. After I asked him to verify with the kitchen, he returned and informed me that the dish would need to be remade without the sauce. For an upscale restaurant, I expected much better allergy awareness and communication from the staff. Food allergies should be taken seriously, and servers should be knowledgeable about menu ingredients or willing to verify information before assuring guests that a dish is safe. To add to the disappointment, our party was charged an approximately 22% automatic gratuity without it ever being mentioned by the server. While I understand that many restaurants add gratuity for large groups, it should be clearly communicated beforehand rather than discovered when the bill arrives.

This place checks the box - it's inside of a large house, a bit unassuming on the outside but the inside is gorgeous. Ample seating, has an upper level balcony for two tables for couples looking for a more intimate dinner experience, and a pianist playing lovely music in the background. Now the food - food is good. Simple ingredients, not too much but enough that I wouldn't say the food is bland. For appetizers I ordered the tagliatelle option and my fiancé ordered the meatball option - both were delicious. For dinner I ordered the mushroom ravioli dish and requested salmon to be added for protein, and it was very yummy and filling. Waiters are so friendly and kind, and just a warm place to enjoy a lovely dinner. We ordered the soufflé dessert and I personally wasn't a fan, the flavoring was great but I don't like the consistency so instead while my fiancé ate that I got vanilla icecream on a cookie shell (substituted the assortment of sorbet that it originally comes with) and I enjoyed that very much.

I've been a few times over the years, and here are some notes from my most recent visit. I got a last minute reservation for 4 people at 7 PM on a Sunday, thanks to Resy notifications. They sat us in the back, which is not the best seating area, but sometimes you take what you can get. The back area is not the most spacious or prettiest area. I sampled a carafe of red wine, a cheese plate, the delicious (free) bread basket, the black bass grenobloise, and trout amandine. The carafe was perfectly fine; I'm not into wine enough to judge. The cheese plate ($6.5 per piece) was an okay size and came with some honey, jam, marcona almonds, and four slices of bread -- the bread was different from the white and cranberry-walnut in the main bread basket; this one was a smaller loaf, sliced thin, with some grains and apricot (?) in it. There are apparently 11 different cheeses to pick from, which the waiter had to recite to us. A small, printed cheese menu would be welcome here. We only heard about 5 of the cheeses before we decided to just pick some, because who wants to listen -- and remember -- the spiels about 11 different cheeses? The Black Bass Grenobloise ($34) had pomme puree, capers, and lemon. It was ok but I preferred the trout. The Trout Amandine ($36) had toasted almonds (lots), haricots verts, lemon brown butter. It was a classic rendition and it was great. Service was friendly, if a little slow.

It recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and has been a consistent presence on best-of-DC French restaurant lists, including InsideHook's, for its old-school Parisian charm. I didn't find record of a specific named award (e.g., a Washingtonian award), just consistent recognition in local "best of" roundups. I had the escargot, mussels, steak au poivre, onion soup, and Mont Blanc chestnut mousse for dessert -- all solid, classic bistro dishes done well. The atmosphere is lively and loud, with picnic-style tablecloths and a packed second floor -- fits the casual Parisian bistro feel they've built over 25 years. Service was brusque, no-nonsense, consistent with what you'd expect from a French bistro -- not overly attentive but efficient. Good option if you want an authentic, long-running French bistro experience in DC.

We ordered a huge spread including the escargot, mussels, mushrooms, salmon, ravioli, roast chicken, and rib eye. Every single dish was fantastic, but the escargot and mussels were particular standouts. Everything tasted fresh, beautifully prepared, and packed with lovely French flavors. We paired the meal with Chimay beer and red wine, both of which worked beautifully with the dishes. Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient, with everything arriving fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere is what you'd hope for from a traditional French bistro--cozy, lively, and authentic. After trying several French restaurants in DC, this one stood out for me. Highly recommend if you're craving a proper French bistro experience!

They have a bar in the Bistro when you first come into the restaurant with some tables, and you walk past the elevator that takes you up to the further reception area. They have a stunning outdoor garden space that they filled with chairs and tables and accommodated a wedding ceremony (approximately 50 guests). The reception was upstairs on the second floor and it was a bit of a cluster having 50 people trying to get up to the second half of the event. The food was absolutely something to write home about! We had a menu to pick for two choices of first course, main course and 4 dessert options. I got the Maryland Crab Flan, Beef Tenderloin with crispy Brussel sprouts and fried risotto ball, and the Lemon Torte and I can honestly say, I thoroughly enjoyed every, single, bite. Perfectly seasoned, large portion of tenderloin, and mouth watering lemon torte that had a perfect balance of tart and sweet. The seafood flan was something I will be going back for with a glass of white wine. All in all the afternoon was beautiful and the wedding was great.

I've read many of the reviews, and many of the negative reviews, in my mind, are unfair because it seems the reviewer didn't know what they were getting when they went. It is expensive, it is French, and the chef makes every dish himself. So yes, the service can be slow and the dishes (particularly the specials) are very expensive. But everything I have had there -- the Branzino, the lobster purses, the bread, the steak -- have all been outstanding except the apple tart which I frankly don't like that much (but that's just a personal taste thing -- I prefer more crust and a sweeter dessert). The staff there is great -- many have been there for years -- BUT the service IS slow (see above, chef making every dish himself) and can be epically slow, hence my deduction of a star. If you're looking for a long, leisurely, special, French dinner -- this is the place for you. If you're looking for a different experience, don't go and don't complain when you get the experience you were looking for.

It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon, and overall we had a pleasant experience. My mom enjoyed an Arnold Palmer, while I ordered the Saint Tropez Spritz, a refreshing blend of elderflower, limonata, and mint that was perfect for brunch. We each started with a comforting bowl of Onion Soup Au Gratinée, topped with a generous layer of melted Jarlsberg cheese. For the table, we shared the Pot of Mussels Marinière, prepared with leeks, onions, garlic, white wine, and herb butter, along with the Escargots de Bourgogne, which were rich, buttery, and packed with garlic herb flavor. My parents also shared a Caesar Salad, but unfortunately they couldn't enjoy the Caesar dressing because it contains chili oil. It would be wonderful if the restaurant offered a traditional Caesar dressing without chili oil for guests with dietary restrictions or sensitivities. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Niçoise Salad and made sure to communicate my food allergies and pepper sensitivity before ordering. Unfortunately, the tuna arrived blackened and was much too spicy for me. Thankfully, our server handled the situation professionally and had the kitchen replace the tuna with salmon, which I appreciated. The food quality was generally very good, and the staff was accommodating once the mistake was brought to their attention. My only suggestion is to improve allergy awareness in the kitchen and consider offering a non-spicy Caesar dressing option. Those changes would make the dining experience much more enjoyable for guests with food sensitivities.

I ordered the Le Cheeseburger & Frites, with the burger cooked medium-well. The burger was okay, but I found it somewhat greasy and, honestly, nothing particularly special. The fries were inconsistent--some were very crisp and firm while others were quite soft. My mom ordered the salmon, which she really enjoyed, and after trying a bite, I actually thought it was better than my burger. The service was probably the weakest part of the experience. We waited quite a while for our food and were only given water while we waited. After we finished, I flagged down another server to ask for the check, but they deferred to the server assigned to our table. We then had to wait again for the check to arrive. For this type of restaurant, I expected the service to be more attentive and efficient. The dining room has the lively, intimate atmosphere you'd expect from a French bistro, but I found it quite loud and the tables very close together. I had to speak loudly for my mom to hear me across the table. Eventually, I was uncomfortable enough that I wanted to leave sooner than I otherwise would have, so we skipped dessert. They did bring me complimentary ice cream with chocolate for my birthday, which was a nice gesture and appreciated. Overall, I enjoyed my birthday dinner, but the long waits, underwhelming burger, inconsistent fries, and noisy, tightly packed dining room kept this from being a 5-star experience. There were definitely some positives, but I expected a little more from the overall experience.
