I came here for New Years Eve with some friends after it has been highly recommended. However, I was woefully disappointed with the menu that night. The restaurant had sent out a holiday prix fixe menu in emails that included swordfish, my friend's favorite dish. We called the restaurant that afternoon to confirm it was indeed available and they said yes. We confirmed our reservation and were super excited. Once we arrived there was some confusion as the fish listed on the menu was different, but we were assured she could still get the swordfish. Well..... guess what? They brought out a different fish and I guess just hoped she wouldn't notice? It was really bad. She sent it back and they made her a Croque Monsieur, but it was cold in the center as they rushed the cooking (not raw, just cold ham). The food we did order and get was very nice. Servers were friendly and very French. We ordered a bottle of sparkling rose and they did a nice job of refilling our glasses of wine and water throughout the meal. Ambiance is reminiscent of cafes in Paris. We were there early on NYE (5pm reservation) so the place was still warming up, but the space is cozy and a bit tight when it's full. I so wanted to love my dinner here, but not telling the truth about the type of fish you're serving is pretty unforgivable. I might try them again, but I won't be ordering the fish.

First time at Le Chat Noir a French Restaurant in Washington, D.C. I ordered the following from the brunch special at $33.95: -1 mimosa -Poached Eggs Norvegienne with smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce with French fries. -Nutella crepe The Nutella crepe was my favorite from the menu. The poached eggs were a bit runny, but the French fries were nice and crispy. The restaurant doesn't have a kids menu but you can order a La carte. Happy Yelping :)

Always love this restaurant. Very cozy, everyone is very friendly, they will try to accommodate any request. Food is always beautiful and delicious, the sauces and dressings are perfect and add that extra touch to make the food stand out. So hard not to finish my entire plate.

Very tasty! Better than that other famous overhyped french spot in DC in my opinion...

First off--cutest branding, sign and exterior decor (crazy cat lady here). Le Chat Noir and I have a special relationship. I come here when I need to study--I attend Capital Wine School courses around the corner. Le Chat Noir is quiet, quaint and quirky. The staff is quick, kind and always gives me the rundown on what's new and recommended. My absolute favorites are the escargots (pairs well with Champagne), Moules Mariniere (pairs well with a Chardonnay), and their cheese selection (grab a full bodied red and indulge)!

This restaurant is indeed such a gem!…read more First let's talk about the appearance - my fiancé and I have been on a journey of finding local quaint restaurants where the food is amazing and doesn't require us to drive into the city (DC). This place checks the box - it's inside of a large house, a bit unassuming on the outside but the inside is gorgeous. Ample seating, has an upper level balcony for two tables for couples looking for a more intimate dinner experience, and a pianist playing lovely music in the background. Now the food - food is good. Simple ingredients, not too much but enough that I wouldn't say the food is bland. For appetizers I ordered the tagliatelle option and my fiancé ordered the meatball option - both were delicious. For dinner I ordered the mushroom ravioli dish and requested salmon to be added for protein, and it was very yummy and filling. Waiters are so friendly and kind, and just a warm place to enjoy a lovely dinner. We ordered the soufflé dessert and I personally wasn't a fan, the flavoring was great but I don't like the consistency so instead while my fiancé ate that I got vanilla icecream on a cookie shell (substituted the assortment of sorbet that it originally comes with) and I enjoyed that very much.

The food itself was very good--I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked well and was the highlight of my meal. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. When ordering drinks, the waiter specifically asked whether we wanted salt on the rim for our margaritas. We said yes, but the drinks arrived without salt. When we politely asked to have it added, the response felt dismissive and came across as having an attitude. More concerning was how my dairy allergy was handled. I mentioned multiple times that I have a dairy allergy and specifically requested no parmesan on my fries. The waiter seemed to have difficulty understanding the request. When my filet mignon arrived, it was topped with a sauce that I suspected contained dairy. I brought it up to the waiter, who confidently insisted the sauce did not contain dairy and was simply a peppercorn sauce. After I asked him to verify with the kitchen, he returned and informed me that the dish would need to be remade without the sauce. For an upscale restaurant, I expected much better allergy awareness and communication from the staff. Food allergies should be taken seriously, and servers should be knowledgeable about menu ingredients or willing to verify information before assuring guests that a dish is safe. To add to the disappointment, our party was charged an approximately 22% automatic gratuity without it ever being mentioned by the server. While I understand that many restaurants add gratuity for large groups, it should be clearly communicated beforehand rather than discovered when the bill arrives.

Needless to say this was not my first choice but went in since other venues didn't have any seats available for dinner. It was a regrettable decision. I would give zero stars if I could. When I visited a few months ago I thought I heard an off color comment from the hostess but thought I misheard. Ate at the bar today and ordered only small dishes since I was on a diet. Realized later on I was not offered the specials and overheard distasteful and unnecessarily hateful commentary from the blonde waitresses in a vest about me to a coworker. Food was fine but definitely not worth it given the discrimination I received. I don't say this lightly- stay away. The state of female POC solo dining here is disgraceful

They have a bar in the Bistro when you first come into the restaurant with some tables, and you walk past the elevator that takes you up to the further reception area. The reception was upstairs on the second floor and it was a bit of a cluster having 50 people trying to get up to the second half of the event. The food was absolutely something to write home about! We had a menu to pick for two choices of first course, main course and 4 dessert options. I got the Maryland Crab Flan, Beef Tenderloin with crispy Brussel sprouts and fried risotto ball, and the Lemon Torte and I can honestly say, I thoroughly enjoyed every, single, bite. Perfectly seasoned, large portion of tenderloin, and mouth watering lemon torte that had a perfect balance of tart and sweet. I've read many of the reviews, and many of the negative reviews, in my mind, are unfair because it seems the reviewer didn't know what they were getting when they went. It is expensive, it is French, and the chef makes every dish himself. So yes, the service can be slow and the dishes (particularly the specials) are very expensive. But everything I have had there -- the Branzino, the lobster purses, the bread, the steak -- have all been outstanding except the apple tart which I frankly don't like that much (but that's just a personal taste thing -- I prefer more crust and a sweeter dessert). The staff there is great -- many have been there for years -- BUT the service IS slow (see above, chef making every dish himself) and can be epically slow, hence my deduction of a star. If you're looking for a long, leisurely, special, French dinner -- this is the place for you. If you're looking for a different experience, don't go and don't complain when you get the experience you were looking for.

Nothin' special. The others had the lobster benedict. While they were happy with the quantity of lobster, I did not hear any oohs or aahs about the taste. Service was either paced for a leisurely lunch, or too slow, depending on how you like to dine. If this is your neighborhood restaurant, it is a fine place to dine in good weather. I wouldn't cross town for it. I ordered the bleu cheese and truffle burger with the Cabernet Sauvignon. We also added the mushroom truffle arancini appetizer from the happy hour menu. Minutes after ordering we got the complimentary bread basket. It was warm and covered by a white napkin. It included crisp flatbread, 2 pieces of onion focaccia, 2 poppyseed rolls and 2 pieces of brown bread with raisins. Bread was tender on the inside and slightly chewy on the outside, very fresh. Every type was delicious. The arancini were gold ball sized (5) and topped with Parmesan sitting on a thick rich sauce. The interior had creamy risotto and black mushroom. A great starter and not too heavy. The burgers were thick patties (cooked medium) with a perfect outside char. Inside was lightly pink and very juicy.
