We've been coming here for about 4 years now but now, nothing here really "wows" me. The crawfish are a good size and they season it well. But it seems over time the quality has gone down. When we first came here, we thought it was delicious, but nowadays we find ourselves coming here less and less. Crawfish is about $7 a pound and they do offer snow, king and blue crab too. You can always order corn, sausage and potatoes to be thrown in with your crawfish but they sure do jack up the prices here. With it being located inside the 99 Ranch market it gets busy and stays busy. You're welcome to byob since again, its inside the market. Service here is fast. We usually don't wait long for our order. When ordering, they give you a plastic tablecloth for your table and once you're done with your food, you can just pack everything up in the tablecloth and throw it away. If you're really jonesing for a crawfish fix and live in the area, this place will do it. But with so many other places in Houston for mud bugs, I think we'll stick to our other place. read more

Even though it's been 16 years since I've lived in Texas, I have not forgotten the elements of a great crawfish boil. We were visiting Texas this past weekend, and I wanted to relive my Texan childhood in which my family would buy 20+ pounds of crawfish at a time! LA Crawfish is located in a 99 Ranch Market, and they let you bring your own beer. Amazing! My friend went to the 99 Ranch Market and got some beer for us. We arrived at 3:45pm on a Sunday, so there was no wait for tables. However, when we left at around 5:00pm, there was a long line for ordering and also a line to get a table. We ordered 3 pounds of crawfish with the cajun seasoning, 1 pound of snow crab,3 corn on the cob, and one order of seasoned fries. The crawfish tasted fresh, and their seasoning is so amazing. They put the corn on the cob in the bag of crawfish to marinate. OMG. The corn on the cob that was all the way at the bottom of the bag made my taste buds explode. My only regret was not ordering more side dishes to marinate in the crawfish juice. We received our entire order within 7 minutes! I love this place. I'm surprised that some reviewers found it pricey - for $6.99/ lb you get high quality crawfish! They taste fantastic - I think the garlic butter is awesome and you get to pick your spice level. The service is super nice, and the crawfish comes out really fast. You can add corn potatoes etc for cheap, and there's all the dipping sauces! It's very clean, and I love the system of giving you a tablecloth that you can pick up and dump into the trash at the end. I've had the oysters too - that green chili is my fave. Only $12 for a dozen! This place is fantastic. Will be back!!! read more

I came across this place on Yelp and saw mixed reviews on it. I'm so glad we ate here because everyone was very pleased. Me personal, I knew I wanted to order a pound of shrimp and crawfish but was on the fence in what sauce to order. They had 3 flavors to pick from; Garlic Butter, Cajun Style & Hot and Sour. Back in Las Vegas, I normally order Lemon pepper so I didn't know what was going to taste good. I asked the cashier if I could have a sample of the garlic butter sauce and he was nice enough to give me a free crawfish with the garlic butter sauce on it. I tasted it and I was sold!!!! It was yummy! The cashier/staff was very welcoming, professional, informative, friendly and over had great customer service. After driving to H-mart first and then Ranch 99 in search of some blue crabs to satisfy my craving, there were none to be found and I remembered this restaurant inside Ranch 99. I called after finding an empty seafood bin and it took awhile for an employee to find out whether or not they had crabs, but in the end they did. At $5 something EACH for a blue crab the price was more than I'm used to paying but I was really craving them so I ordered two, along with a lb of crawfish (7.99). I had been here once or twice long long ago in the past and didn't really have a fond memory of the place but thought I'd give it another shot since its been years and they're still open. The crabs were a good size and cooked well to where the meat came out easily. However, the sauce and quality of the crawfish definitely were disappointing. The garlic butter had no real flavor and the garlic was very mild tasting. The crawfish wasn't cleaned well, resulting in a gray like color inside and out of the 1lb, about 30% were broken and mushy. There are a lot of other crawfish places in Houston and this one isn't going to be one that I'll be returning to in the future. read more

Not too shabby. More affordable than other good crawfish places that have the "garlic" crawfish. Plus check-in with Yelp and you get 10% off! I didnt realize this til after I paid. =( They have 3 levels of spice.... we had the highest and my lips were burning after a pound, although my hubby said it wasnt spicy at all. They use chili oil for their spice so it's not salty when other restaurants pour more cajun seasoning to make it spicier. LOVE their spicy garlic wings. Crunchy, salty, flavorful, with a good kick! Their pho is actually pretty good as well. You know a pho is good when you dont need to add hoisin sauce. (We had the pho ga, so I'm not sure about the beef broth...) My only disappointments was that the potatoes were overcooked. Also, I always thought you cant really mess up sweet potato fries, but I found them to be pretty bland and some were not fully cooked. Other than that, the crawfish in this location is great. There's only a few tables here so I would assume that weekends will probably be pretty packed. LA Crawfish - not to be confused with Los Angeles, y'all - this is all about Louisiana style grub. The food here is coated with spice and heavy handed with salt and oil. But that's typically the palate of Cajun style/Crawfish cuisine. Mind you, I never nosh on crawfish because that's not my thing. But they have plenty of other food options here. The food isn't bad, it'd give it a solid 3.5. The ingredients seemed fresh and the portions were decent. I liked the bite sized chicken bites that were flash fried with basil. The cajun spiced waffle fries were salty yet warm and crisp. My friend ordered the crawfish and mentioned they were small in size. The season for it just started so perhaps that could change. The cajun style fried rice was spiced up with a lot of seasoning yet salty in taste. The flavor wasn't bad but the sodium levels could have been less. Maybe SaltBae would disagree. Other than that, the dark and savory fried rice paired well with the other food items. All in all, the food was decent and the service was warm. This spot is tucked inside a corner of 99 ranch market. I may revisit when passing through the market. They also have pho if you're craving for something warm and soupy. Did I just say soupy? This is one of my favorite crawfish places. The service is awesome and crawfish very flavorful. They have three choices: garlic butter, hot and spicy and Cajun. I have had all three and my favorite is the garlic butter. The hot and spicy is pretty good as well and uses an tamarind mash. Order by the pound and you can add on corn, sausage or potatoes. They also have other dishes that are very good. If you order wings, I would recommend the Thai tamarind wings. Those are the best. They are sweet and savory. If you want noodles and you like spice i would order the pho sate. Creative twist on pho using Sate flavor to create a mildly spicy noodle dish bursting with flavor. It has meatballs, steak and chunks of tomatoes in it. Finally, the garlic noodles are also pretty good. I would highly recommend that. The overall atmosphere is fun and casual. This restaurant is inside 99 Ranch. For a place inside a grocery store, this place is pretty solid. They have a good variety of your cajun favorites. For crawfish, you can get it garlic and butter, cajun spicy (medium or hot), or hot & sour. Today they only had frozen crawfish at $8 a pound. During crawfish season they'll have fresh as well. Food comes out quick and service is solid. As always, crawfish is a messy business, so bring gloves... and a bib! read more

Have to say that the crawfish at the moment aren't that great in size and are over priced for the size you get. Spicy garlic buttery goodness is still decent here, boiled shrimp are a much more decent size. I ordered 2lb crawfish and 1lb boiled shrimp and it was perfect. I ordered mild as even the mild is still spicy but just the right amount, I'm sweating just thinking about it right now ha. When I went, there was quite a long line to get to the front counter to order. For my last stop before heading back to California, i decided to come here. The items i tried were: Cajun crawfish: This was good, but not the best crawfish i've tried. It was a little too salty for my liking. The sausage was not good and tasted water down. Lemon pepper wings: A little too salty as well. Again, not the best i've tried. Cajun curry: Pretty good taste. Tastes like Thai Curry with a little cajun kick to it. Beignet Fries: BOMB.COM A must if you come here Overall, I thought this place was airight, but maybe because i came at 10am in the morning because my flight was at 1pm. Since i came early, they didn't have shrimp, corn, or blue crab, leaving me with very limited options. I think i still like The Boiling Crab in California better than here. The only food item i really enjoyed was the beignet fries. Garlic butter sauce taste slightly moldy... Every single crawfish was either dead or tasted frozen. Went up to complain and the cashier apologize and said sometimes when the chef mixes the sizes, some dead ones slips through. She gave us another 4lbs and ensured me that they were live and not frozen. Déjà vu, it was slightly brighter in color but every crawfish tasted frozen and they were small - medium size. This was THE WORST crawfish experience I've ever had. I ordered 4lbs garlic butter medium with 2 orders of corn, 2 orders of potatoes and half a sausage. It came out within only 5 minutes of ordering so I already knew it was all precooked in the back which is a no no for any crawfish restaurant, but I tried it anyways. Long and behold, the crawfish tasted dead/ frozen!! Their guts were not vibrant yellow like live crawfish should be, but instead it was all gray and tasted like dirty tap water. After breaking open a few, I decided to take my complaint to the cashier. When I questioned her if these crawfish were frozen, she assured me that they were LIVE and that sometimes when they mix the sizes of crawfish, some may be dead... this already was a terrible excuse, but she offered to trade out my crawfish for a new batch so i took her up on the offer. This "new batch" came out again within 5 minutes... AND AGAIN WERE DEAD/ FROZEN!!!! My boyfriend and I were starving so we tried to grit our teeth and eat what we could... which wasn't much... I felt like gagging every time I ate a tail or even tasted the gray guts... so we gave up and threw the rest away. Before we left, i confronted the owner about the crawfish because i just couldn't not leave without saying something and again, I asked if they were indeed live crawfish. He also assured me that they were live. I asked him if he tried the crawfish today and he said yes. He never said it was good. He just said he tried it. Then he said that due to the weather, sometimes the crawfish taste different. I told him that I've eaten a lot of crawfish this season and well every season before and that I've never had crawfish like this and that was not a valid excuse at all. Only after all of this is when he offered to refund the full amount of my meal. I of course accepted. I will NEVER go to this restaurant ever again. It has scarred me for life. Take it back to your table and lay out the plastic table liner and pour out your mud bugs and go to town. 3. There are a few flavors to choose from: garlic butter, cajun and Hot and Sour. 4. Corn is extra 5. The sausage is extra and is delish Be aware: 1. The cajun is spicy for anyone who doesn't wanna do the spice dance 2. When tying the plastic bib around your neck, be gentle because it is destructable and may un tie while you throw back your head in crawfish ectasy. I really wanted to like this place more. As a matter of fact, I *wanted* to LOVE it. But, alas, I didn't. So here's my assessment: I think it was definitely a solid spot. My boyfriend enjoyed the crawfish, which is, after all, their signature. I, however, was not feeling like crawfish at that exact moment, so I got something else that looked like it had a prominent spot on their menu: pho. I order the same kind of pho everywhere I go, so it's really easy for me to make comparisons. Eye round and meatball, no white onion. And somehow LA just got it all wrong. And that made me sad. First off, they brought it to my table with chopsticks (this is fine) and a mini plastic (aka disposable) soup spoon. I don't know about you, but I'd never seen that before, and it was almost impossible to eat with it. Then, the broth was SUPER oily. I'd never seen that before. As in, there were floating patches of oil on the top of my soup bowl. It still tasted good, but somehow put a damper on my enjoyment of it, and I couldn't/wouldn't finish the broth because guilt took over. Finally, the meatballs. The pho meatballs are what really make me decide whether I will return to a spot for pho or not. And these were just not that good. Something about the texture. I cannot recall how I first came to visit this place, but I've been shucking here for approximately 4 years now. I feel like an insider as I drape the table of my choice in the bundled table setting that is inclusive of a paper cloth, some napkins and a bib--all I need for a good time...! Such a selection and dressing is made all within a grocery store! You may, however, want to shop before you eat as this place is BYOB. I'm not quite sure of how or why they would continually expand their menu without making money by way of expanding drinking options. The sniffling and cracking are almost addictive and infectious. There seems to be a somewhat automatic sense of community and equal opportunity here. I especially love how I'm seemingly to be able to make my own way, my own decisions, and still feel welcome to return. There are locations popping up all around me (Clear Lake, and I just saw a sign in Baytown), but I'm a sort of "original" girl, so I think I'll stick to this location. And I'm not sure if those other locations are BYOB, and I take great pleasure in my own drank! This is my first time going to a crawfish place and I am glad I picked this place! They not only offers crawfish but also pho! I ordered two lbs of crawfish one garlic butter and one canjun. After reading so many good reviews on garlic butter I don't see the big deal. I prefer the spicy canjun style more. It is saltier and more flavorful! Just after devouring 6 lbs of crawfish and developing a food coma, I couldn't wait to get home to rave about my experience. First off, I was greeted immediately by the young gentleman at the register. If you've read my previous reviews, first impressions are very important to me. Secondly, I pretty much knew what I wanted to order based on all the "good" reviews I read and recommendations from friends and family. FYI ... I am not one of those who judges a book by it's cover. ( I prefer to make my own judgements despite what I read or hear) Anyway, their crawfish was succulent and juicy. Their garlic butter sauce was so good that I wish I had a bowl of steamed rice to eat it with. The lemon pepper wings had a sweetness to it which reminded me of wing stops fries and i love their fries! On to the boiled shrimp, OMG......... AMAZING ! It is a most get item !! Last but not least, I think their beignets are sinfully delicious and even though I felt guilty eating the last piece in the basket that it was served in, I definitely don't regret it.
