I've been frequenting this Mexican food joint ever since I was a freshman in college (so, for the last 4 years). There's a big variety of the usual Mexican dishes, and they also have carne asada fries as well as the California burrito (fries inside the burrito). My go-to order is the super burrito (I love my guacamole and sour cream) with pollo asado, and every order comes with their delicious freshly-made tortilla chips (they're usually still hot from the fryer!). As much as I love Taco Bell, it saddens me that they moved right next to la burrita, and they're losing a lot of business because of the huge franchise. La burrita doesn't have "authentic" Mexican food; however, their food is delicious and their staff is really kind! Good size burritos at a decent price -- would recommend! It would probably taste much better with a decent salsa, but everytime I go there, the salsas are sour. Still, this place is way better than Chipotle (I hate that place). The first time I ate a burrito here, I was shocked at how small they were. They're like 2 inches in radius. The idea of a "large" is basically two tortillas instead of one and adding some sour cream and guac. Even with my super saver coupon of a dollar off... I always get the carne asada special burrito. It's my favorite, and I think it's the best burrito in Berkeley. After four years of eating Mexican food in Berkeley, I have settled on La Burrita as my favorite. Chipotle is disgusting, La Fiesta is average, Cancun is good if you like super watery burritos, and that place on Center Street next to Top Dog is okay. (Though, if you want super cheap delicious burritos, go to the burrito trucks in Oakland.) Service is quick; not much seating, so it's a great place to just get food to go. Chips are crispy. The only time I will ever eat here again is when I am too drunk to know what the hell I am consuming. The chicken nachos were terrible (really, how hard is it to screw up nachos?). Its alright for a burrito, nothing special, no special taste, but it opens late at night and is really good for those late night hungers. One things I use to like to order is the wet burrito, its huge and fills you up, but recently I found out that they microwave them, and I am not such a great fan of that. I guess if I wanted a wet burrito just splash some water on a regular burrito, stick it in the microwave and call it wet. There's also no flavor on their meat, it seems like they just cook it and thats it, plain as ever. By far the best burrito in Berkeley! Vegan friendly and great service. I go here all the time and it's consistently so so good. They specify which items do not have lard. Two main things about La Burrita to recommend it are that it is reasonably cheap and it stays open late. It's not always bad, but it's not especially good either. It's the kind of place you go because you have a hunger for some Mexican food, but then you eat it and it doesn't fill that craving since it's not even good or satisfying. It's better than Taco Bell, but that's not a huge recommendation. Most of the time I thought the one on the north side of campus was better than this location, but even then it was very inconsistent in taste and quality. Of the Mexican places I've eaten La Burrita falls into the bottom 20%. The bay area seems to have a glut of mediocre burrito shops like this, but even for the low Bay Area burrito shop standard it doesn't excel. I can at least say it is the best burrito in town, because it tastes fine but is the cheapest as well. They also have a fine Orchata, which I believe is a sweet rice drink that tastes like cinnamon and coconut water. Probably the only downfall for me is that they don't have Carnitas. And I say no to Chipotle. The minute they give free chips and infinite salsa to accompany their slightly more expensive price, I'll come running. For now, Give me my oily meat packed burrito and free pico de gallo. And of course the convenience of location. I went to La Burrita because my friends that went to CAL said it was delicious and the burritos were huge and the super nachos were awesome, etc, etc. I went, ordered the bean & cheese burrito (it's what I always order) and it was alright. I felt like it tasted just like any other burrito (a lot like Hugo's in LA). The chips were delicious, I will say. The salsa selection was good too, but it was all the way in the back right next to the soda dispenser and there was a table right smack dab there too (kind of awkward to get to) There is very little seating inside and outside there were 3 tables, none with an umbrella, so if it's full inside, raining or super sunny, nature will attack you. read more

Burritos are pretty delicious, though they're a little on the small side for the price. Flavorful/savory carne asada and chicken, from what I've tasted. They're often open pretty late (11pm, 7 nights a week), deliver (for a charge and minimum $ order) and, in my experience, have very friendly staff. The location on Durant is the location I have most frequented and, though it has a small interior (roughly 5 small tables), it also has a back patio area with more tables, to enjoy during non-rainy/cold weather. The last time I had gotten a tostada and horchata here, the food sent me running. I think the quality of food was much, much better in my freshman year at Cal, but it has steadily declined. The tostada was a sad soggy mess and was barely edible while the horchata was probably the most water downed horchata I've ever had. I've ordered their quesadillas a couple times and they came out pretty hot and nice to eat, along with a little lettuce and chips. Not a bad deal for your money. I appreciate the salsa bar though, and the plate is a good quantity for what you pay. Wet burrito with ground beef I like somehow, even though you watch them microwave it to melt the cheese and ugh. Finally a place with decent burritos in Berkeley, I've looked far enough now it seems. I had the Super Burrito while my girlfriend had one of the Vegetarian ones, and from the start I was welcomed by something that, while not truly Mexican, was close enough to call Mexican anyways. We had it to-go before a bit Co-op party, and couldn't have made a better choice. They would have probably hit the mark had they used lard to cook everything, but like most of Berkeley they chose the healthy route. Kudos to them for at least getting close to their mark. I was introduced to this place by friends, and since that time, I've come every few months whenever I'm in the Berkeley area. Food tastes as authentic as the Los Angeles Mexican restaurants I grew up on, and the salsa bar is a great aspect. What I enjoy most is the staff. Whenever I've come with friends who are regulars. Staff always remembers people as well as their orders, and have always been friendly. This place is open until 2am and the same owner is always there and clearly values the customer. I got the veggie tostada and it was alright. Good price for the portion though for sure but not super flavorful. The staff was very unfriendly when I walked in and when they went to give me my chips they used an ungloved hand to put it on my plate even though there were tongs sitting right next to the chip bowl. The LA Burrita special with ground beef is goood! Not too many places have the ground beef. The salsa at this place is average, but the spicy green salsa is never disappointing. Also, very reasonable prices. Depending on time of day and time of year, seating can be a problem... so expect to take your food some where else or wait for seating. read more

I've never had anything but the philly cheese steak burrito but it's the best burrito I've found in the bay area. Over-privileged college students are the only reason why it gets bad reviews. I ordered in from this restaurant one evening. I ordered the fajita plate and some tacos. We also ordered a side of chips and two aqua frescas (mango and rice water). Let me start of by saying that the fajita dish was so delicious and had a lot of flavor! The tacos not so much, the meat was dry and the tortillas lacked flavor. The mango juice was a bit too sweet for my taste and rice water tasted way too much like water and lacked flavor. I would definitely give this place another chance but avoid the tacos and fresh waters next time. The other things on the menu looked pretty good as well so might try those next time. The burritos here are pretty good. Mos def better than Chipotle and since it's right next to Top Dog, La Burrita is the logical choice. Probably the best burrito joint in Berkeley.
