Cool spot with creative matcha deserts. I had the matcha parfait and while I wouldn't get again as was too much, I enjoyed it a lot, especially the red bean. Would come back to explore menu.
Tried the Kyo Matcha towel cake and it was really good. Not too sweet which is honestly an elite Asian compliment. I do not usually go for matcha desserts but this one was light, soft, and not overpowering at all. It actually made me want to try more matcha stuff.
Loved this place! Im not even a matcha fan but i was wowed. The floats are good value imo-- 8.50 for basically two desserts, first the soft serve float and then the latte. The hojicha soft serve was incredible and I loved the latte too. Do note that they use thin petal shaped pieces of ice throughout the latte to support the ice cream. So the latte is going to be 80% ice. However, the liquid in the latte is extremely concentrated to make up for this, so I recommend breaking up the ice and dissolving it a bit to really enjoy the latte as much as possible. The place was busy and some tabletops/chairs were sticky. There was some outdoor seating but it was a bit uncomfortable in the cold. It also took a while to get our drinks. The line is long but a kiosk is available to skip the line!
The ambiance was quite nice with cool decor and service moved pretty fast. Unfortunately, the giant matcha roll dessert was underwhelming and had a very foreign taste to it even though I've had matcha in Japan before. Probably just not the right taste profile for me unfortunately.
Such good matcha and creative spins. Hojicha also good, strawberry isn't whole strawberry kinda of grounded up. Had rotating favor of the month.
Has ice cream, drinks and pastry items, all with match or Asian flavors~ very cute and easy to spot, and busy. Location is small and first come, first serve seating/tables. Our drinks were prepared quickly! I ordered the match red bean latte with oat milk, bobba topping and iced. My partner got the matcha latte with whole milk. My drink was sweet but not too much, with the sweetness coming from the red bean pieces and bobba. The match is delicious~ perfect. My partners drink is very good. No bad comments about our treat! Tables could be cleaner and properly sipped down more often, but a good spot for a solid matcha drink~ my rating is high for the quality and taste of the matcha, which is a huge part of their brand.
We ordered two ice cream bowls with shots of espresso and Matcha on top. Each of these was a twist and not necessarily what they had on the menu, which I guess led to the staff becoming very mixed up, and needing to remake both of our ice creams. Surface was also very slow, and there is not much seating on the inside, and there is a line out the door. Even outside, seating is hard to come by. The ice cream itself is very, very nice, especially the red bean at the bottom as an add-on. I would say the ice cream is not terribly sweet, but works very very well with the extra sweet red bean. I would consider getting takeout from here, if I didn't think it would melt quickly.
The most amazing matcha! You can tell the matcha here is quality compared to other places. It's so good it's hard to get matcha anywhere else. I got the original matcha latte and jasmine matcha latte. They also have matcha icecream and it was thickly and creamy. Service is quick and friendly. They also have a self kiosk to order on your own. They're always busy but knock out the line quickly. The shop is clean and bright with lots of seating.
Great matcha. Love the ice cream with the Oreo and mochi. Good amount of seating. The crepe was excellent and soft. Would come by any time I'm craving matcha.

Rating: 4.3 Came to try due to recommendation by a friend. It's a matcha focused tea shop that also offer soft serve, bubble tea, mille crepe cake, parfait and more. I'm assuming that the name kyo comes from kyoto which is known for matcha. It was busy inside but service was quick. Inside is pretty small and only has few seatings. Outside seatings are also available. We ordered matcha latte and matcha red bean latte with boba. The tea was ready within minutes and they were pretty good. I didn't get the matcha soft serve but i assume it's good as well. Overall a solid spot especially for matcha lovers. Would come back when i'm in the area and maybe try their soft serve or combine it with tea.
The Hojicha latte with Matcha ice cream float was exactly what I was craving - earthy, slightly smoky, and perfectly balanced in sweetness (as any good Asian dessert should be). The flavors were spot on, and the presentation was beautiful. My only complaint was the amount of ice. For nearly $10, it felt like I got more ice cubes than tea, which was pretty disappointing. As much as I loved it, I'm not sure the portion justifies the price.

Love how this place is a new hot spot in Brookline! I came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was bustling with customers. There were lots of people outside and inside, and since this is a small spot, it felt stuffy and crowded. Nevertheless, it was a cute little spot with all sorts of matcha options. I got a matcha latte that was almost $7 and to be honest, it wasn't anything special. I do like how you can adjust the sweetness and ice levels. read more
If you are a matcha fanatic like myself, this is the place for you. After months of long lines around the block, I finally made it inside to get a swirl soft serve. It was sooooo good!!! The swirl was perfect w the more bitter matcha and the vanilla sweet cream. They also have a lot of unique toppings that I will be trying in the future. They have plenty of outdoor seating and there is both a kiosk and register to order so the line does move pretty fast. The decor is also really cool and fun place to enjoy your food. read more
Went here with a friend after hearing all about it since it first opened. When we got there late afternoon on a Wednesday, the line was out the door and just past the outdoor seating offered. We watched the different desserts go by and decided to try the matcha red bean towel cake and tiramisu crepe layer cake. When we got to the front of the line, we figured out that it was a machine that takes the orders, and the machine said that all of the towel cakes were out of stock. We ended up ordering the tiramisu crepe layer cake and nothing else. But then we saw other people were able to order them a few minutes later, so we asked one of the servers and were told that since they make everything on site, they sometimes show that they aren't available. The server was extremely kind and added one to our order. Both desserts were amazing, especially the towel cake which had a strong matcha flavor and paired well with the red bean. Additionally, I tried the strawberry boba here. It was good, but not as special as everything else...I would say stick to the other desserts and what they are famous for here. read more

Luckily the lines have died down since it's grand opening but we came in the afternoon and many things on the menu were sold out. The cafe in a convenient location if you're in the Fenway area so we made a stop here for some desserts. The ordering process was quick as you can order in person or at a digital kiosk. There is seating both inside and outside- but seating inside was a bit packed bc of the line of people. Wasn't too difficult to find seats since people were coming and going often. I think the items we got were pretty good! The star of the show is their matcha obviously and can't go wrong with that. The matcha had good flavor and a good level of sweetness. Would come back again if I'm looking for desserts! read more

I had heard stories of the neverending lines for Kyo Matcha, and hoped that the hype had died down by this weekend. We arrived around 3pm on a Sunday and the line was around 25 people long. We ended up spending around 40 minutes in line, and passed the time by visiting other neighboring businesses (Japonaise and H Mart) and debating on what to order. Ordering is done through a single kiosk, or with an employee (when they're not busy with all the orders!). I originally really wanted to try a milk cap cake, but my stomach just wasn't in the mood for it, so we decided to go for two drinks. We got the matcha latte float with matcha and milk swirl ice cream. I was pretty disappointed by the amount of ice cream in the float -- it was quite a sad, small swirl. Also, as others have pointed out, the drink is at least half ice -- we ended up trying to salvage the drink/ice cream that was stuck on the ice cubes, then collecting the ice on the side so we could actually drink the drink. The ice cream ends up becoming quite icy due to the ice, but from what I've tried, the ice cream was pretty tasty. The matcha latte doesn't seem to be sweetened at all, which I wasn't expecting, so you have to eat the ice cream in order to balance it out. Overall I would much prefer to get this item from Matcha Cafe Maiko -- much more ice cream, tastier/less grainy matcha latte. We also got the grapefruit guava green tea, mostly because I was wary of getting overwhelmed by creamy items. I thought this was quite a nice drink -- refreshing and good flavor. Nothing to complain about here, though I would like to pair it with some lychee jelly. I realized while I was eating that I've actually been to a Kyo Matcha location before -- Kyoto Matcha in Ellicott City, Maryland. I really enjoyed my experiences there -- the matcha crepe cake was excellent, and I enjoyed the ice cream and drinks as well. Based on those experiences, I'm assuming that where Kyo Matcha really shines is in the cake department. I didn't get to sample that this time, but I definitely will next time! Overall, if you're looking for matcha ice cream/drinks, Matcha Cafe Maiko will definitely fit the bill -- you can skip the wait and get a much better matcha latte float. If you're looking for matcha cakes, though, Kyo Matcha may be the place to go (will report back!). read more

Went on Sunday of their grand opening weekend and waited in line for about one hour. Shop itself is on the smaller side with seating for maybe 20 people or so. Lots of staff working however still working out kinks, while we were waiting for our order heard lots of confusion about how to make or present some of the items. Despite this everything tasted great! Matcha and hojicha flavors were good in both the lattes and ice cream, I preferred the hojicha over the matcha but couldn't go wrong either way. Boba cap cake had surprisingly good texture. Would've liked to try the ube towel cake but they said they were sold out at the time. Cakes are expensive at $10-12 each and ice cream is $7 for a cup so would consider coming here a rare treat but would certainly like to come back. read more
I went here for the grand opening and the line was insane. The items themselves were great though and the interior was adorable. I got the ube ice cream with rice mochi and the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk. My drink and ice cream were incredible. The ube ice cream is not a permanent menu item unfortunately because it's season, but I hope they consider changing that because I loved it! Also I tasted little chunks of real strawberries at the bottom of my matcha latte and that was so good too! read more
This place is new and a must try. Matcha soft serve is delicious and they do it well. They have a variety of tasty treats and this place is very popular. It's located right next to an H-mart too which is fun. The service is fast and the vibes are great inside this little Matcha house. read more

Food wise wasn't too bad but nothing that really stood out. The lines were very long inside and out but because this was a new spot I wanted to try. The seating inside was quite a mess maybe because we went around night time and there were bugs lurking around. Not sure if I would go to this place again but it is something to try once. read more

I paid $12 for this cake and the actual cake was half the size of the display cake. Seriously disappointing and overpriced. I won't be coming back, but the cake was good enough that I ate it all. The strawberries were filled with preservatives that made them spicy. There is also some dirt on the tables and leaves on the floor. read more

The lines are unbearable. Despite the self check out kiosk, somehow the line moves so slowly - maybe just from how tight the space is. I finally made it through the door on a random Wednesday night after trying two other times. By the evening they had run out of most of the cakes sadly (which is what I wanted to try), which seemed to appear out of a fridge somewhere. The items were high quality for sure - strong matcha flavor in the soft serve and the Ube towel cake filling is not too sweet but still somewhat heavy (the towel cake is mostly a crepe cake rolled up). However, I will wait for the hype to die down before going again. read more
We got here 25 min before opening and there already was a line. Once this place calms down I do think it would be a great place to grab a boba or matcha because the matcha was insanely good. Definitely shoot for eating outside because inside was way too crowded. We also got the matcha crepe cake which was a 3/5. They freeze them to maintain the shape I guess but even after waiting about 20 minutes it was still hard to cut into the inside. The boba cap cake though?? Addicting. BEST SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM AND MATCHA LATTES IN BOSTON. I can't even tell you how good the soft serve is--so creamy and tasty but doesn't leave you feeling heavy like ice cream usually does. My partner and I shared the ube milk cap cake, matcha red bean towel cake, and dream of Sakura (raindrop) cake - TASTE: 4/5 - my favorite was the ube milk cap cake; although I wish the ube was stronger, it had the perfect sweetness. The matcha towel cake was strong in matcha flavor, w red bean in the filling too, and loved the dream of sakura's combo of jelly, kinako's roasted soy flavor, and brown sugar TEXTURE: 5/5 - the milk cap cake itself was spongy w a generous cream topping, and the matcha mousse in the towel cake was so light and fluffy. Excited to try more on the menu! PRICE: 4/5 - the cakes are $10-12, so more expensive than expected, and the rest of the menu seems comparable to Matcha Cafe Maiko nearby SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - good portions for an after-lunch treat SERVICE: 4/5 - came for grand opening weekend, so expected a long line. walked by and it happened to be their soft opening today! we got the tiramisu crepe cake, which was really nice. had a lot of layers, the cream was light, and not too sweet. we also got the matcha cream puff. it's the perfect size, small enough for a quick snack. the matcha cream inside actually had a matcha flavor, and also not too sweet. the guava grapefruit tea was really yummy, it tasted like the guava candy. we also got to try the matcha latte, which had a strong matcha flavor! you can adjust ice level/sweetness, and they also have alternative milk (almond milk) which was a nice touch. they were also very kind and let us try the little raindrop dessert that came with brown sugar and kinako powder i think, and i really enoyed it, it was very light and fun to eat. their space is very clean and bright, plenty of seats, feels spacious enough to plop down and study or read a book or hang out! staff was super friendly, family owned! go support them!!! read more
After recently returning from a trip to Japan, we were going through dessert withdrawal and were happy to discover Kyo Matcha had recently opened in Brookline. With an assortment of matcha and Asian-inspired desserts, it's no wonder this spot was teeming with people even at 6pm on a Thursday. There were also a large indoor and outdoor space to enjoy the desserts. We decided on a slice of matcha crepe cake and a small hojicha soft serve. The matcha cake was INCREDIBLE -- punchy earthy matcha flavor, sweet cream, and great structural integrity. The hojicha soft serve was also excellent in flavor, though it began to melt quickly. The only thing I didn't love was the mochi, as it was flavorless and the texture was chewier than I prefer. But overall, loved this spot and will come back! Food: 1. Matcha crepe cake (5/5) 2. Was super excited about this spot opening in the area, but we thought it was just okay! It's very popular so the line is out the door, but it moves very quickly. There is seating inside and outside. You can order with the staff or kiosk. We tried their soft serve-hojicha and ube. I felt like the taste wasn't as strong and is more on the sweet side. May come back to try their other desserts, but will keep going to cafe matcha maiko for soft serve! read more

This place is so clean, The service is quick and they will text you when your orders ready, there's a screen to order off of and restrooms! My friend and I ordered a matcha latte float and a passion fruit green tea they were both phenomenal and tasted amazing! Would definitely recommend! read more

Finally got to visit Kyo Matcha! There wasn't a huge line when I visited around 3, but definitely busy 2:30-3. It can get crowded inside pretty easily as everyone wants to stay in to avoid the heat aha. We got the matcha crepe cake and it was delicious! Perfect dessert for after a meal! Would definitely come back again to try out their matcha drinks as well as their ice cream and the other cakes (they all look so good)! read more

Took 2hrs for waiting in queue Food; Ube roll cake was so so... Did not much like it as the cream inside was very bland. The visual itself was very pretty. Matcha ice-cream had deep flavor and enjoyed it. I just though it wasn't special to wait for 2hrs in the line though... Overall great atmosphere, nice staff. TLDR: if you want matcha soft serve, just go to Matcha Cafe Maiko. We got the matcha soft serve and paid an extra dollar for oreo crumbs. It was disappointing. While the matcha flavor was good, the soft serve was not creamy and melted very fast. The oreo crumbs felt more like dark cocoa powder. It did not provide any crunch or flavor. The line was long and did not move very fast. The inside is very small and was much hotter than the outside. There were other desserts we didn't try so we might give this place another try some other time but never getting their soft serve again. We would much rather go to Matcha Cafe Maiko a few blocks down. read more

We visit the Kyo Matcha in Chicago and we're very excited that it opened in Boston!! The ambience was very busy and crowded. Perhaps, because they opened recently. The desserts were yummy-licious!! we had the matcha cheese mousse cake. The best part of it was the chocolate base. It gave a delicious crunchy texture. The mousse portion tasted like high quality matcha and it had the perfect sweetness!! We also had their tiramisu crepe layer cake. The coffee powder on top was bitter yet the perfect blend with the sweet crepe . It is a highly recommended if you want something else other than matcha. Their white peach matcha latte (featured item) was just ok at best. The white peach was not the best combination with the matcha. The peach was overwhelming the matcha flavor while you couldn't enjoy the peach flavor. They were basically contradicting each other. This item is not recommended On the other hand, their matcha brûlée cream slush was amazingly yummy-licious!! it was perfect flavor, perfect sweetness, and the brûlée was in perfect harmony with the matcha!! 5/5 recommended! read more

I'M SO IN LOVE WITH THESE SWEET TREATS Among other desserts shop in Boston, I think that Kyo Matcha brings out the best matcha dessert where I can taste the matcha blended well with other ingredients . The matcha cheese mousse was so so smooth and not overly sweet. There is also red bean inside which is insaneee (matcha and red bean cannot go wrong) The dream of sakura is a light treat for summer weather where the cool jelly is served with soybean powder. The matcha red bean milkcap cake is so so good, the sponge cake under the cheese creamy sauce is really airy and soft. I wish I can get more red bean on topp Matcha towel cake is a highly recommended option because the matcha cream inside is so good. The outside skins are smooth and not too thick too. Actually, i will recommend everything in the menu because I want to try it all next time P/s: The staff are so nicee even the store is busy as always. read more

We got to Kyo Matcha at 7:30pm and it wasn't too busy. However, 15 minutes later, there was a line with 10 people. Their portions of ice cream are huge! I shared one with my friend after dinner and we didn't even finish it. The ice cream was creamy and had a strong matcha flavor. It had a tiny bit of bitterness but was the perfect amount of sweetness for my tastebuds. After 8 pm, the place gets busy and loud as more people trickle in. People are waiting for seats and grab a table as soon as other people stand up. read more
